Vira may be found at +410, +85.

You say, 'Hail, Vira'

Vira says 'I am Vira, elementalist of Solusek Ro. I guard the secrets of the tools of [elemental summoning]. If you are a magician, you might be interested.'

You say, 'What is elemental summoning?'

Vira says 'I hold the secrets to the construction of four tools which assist magicians with the summoning of elementals. I know about the [broom of Trilon], the [shovel of Ponz], the [torch of Alna] and the [stein of Ulissa].'

You say, 'What of the Broom of Trilon?'

Vira says 'The broom of Trilon was held by the infamous Mistress of Air of the same name. Are you [interested] in the [broom]?'

You say, 'I am interested in the broom.'

Vira says 'I will construct a replica of the broom of Trilon for you, but I will need the following components to make it: a star ruby; a feather from a griffon, a broom from a magician in Najena and the toes of a cyclops. Bring me these four components, and I will fashion for you an object of elemental power.'

A Star Ruby may be purchased from a jewelry merchant. Griffon Feathers drop from various griffins around the world. A Broom (identifies as "Broom of Air") drops from various mobs in Najena. Cyclops Toes drop from various cyclops around the world. Hand in the four items.

Vira says 'All of the components to make the infamous broom of Trilon! Well done, adventurer. As you have proven yourself worthy, I grant you this broom.'
Your faction standing with Temple of Solusek Ro has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with Shadowed Men has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience.

You receive the Broom of Trilon.

I forgot to mention that I found the Broom, Shovel, Stein, and Torch for free from people in East Commons, when I put out an "/auction Want to BUY Broom, Shovel, Stein and Torch for Magician Focus Item Quests".

Good luck,

All the items, except the Broom, Stien, Shovel and Torch, I bought from vendors throught Freeport and Commons.

The Ruby can be bought from a vendor in the Cleric Guild in North Freeport. I bought mine in auction for 125pp, saving about 6pp.

The other three gems can be bought in regular jewelery vendors, like the blue building in North Freeport.

Toes: Third Inn - East Commons, Jade Inn - North Freeport, and various vendors.

Griffon Feathers: Arcane Acadamey - West Freeport.

Gargoyle Eye: Arcane Academy and other various vendors.

Mermaid Scale: Boomba the Big - West Freeport.

Fire Drake Scale: Forgotten vendor - I believe it was in commons, though, it may have been at the Arcane Academy.

I finished all four quests at the same time, earlier this week. I find it quite disappointing that the amount of experience gained from this was less then a blue mob would have given me, at 26th level. I can't see any experience given at the "proper" minimum level of 33. Very odd. I don't see why they even give you the "You gained experience" message.

As far as how much it helps for lower then 34th or whatever level, I don't see a huge difference, if any. I have not done testing as far as log files and such, but, pets summoned with these items are still blue to me, regardless of whether I'm using the item or not. There doesn't seem to be an increase in damage, either. Unless, I'm getting fairly unlucky.....

Good luck to you.

All the locations you listed to buy the drops from will not be accurate for anyone else. The only reason you were able to get them is because another player first sold those items to those venders. The post a little ways down says where everyone can actually go to get their own with out relying on other people to happen to sell those items to venders.

Well, i was in Najena for Ekeros an his Blackened Sapphire i needed for Red Sash Quest in FP. To make a long story short, i killed XXX amount of Mage's in the jail area to get him to spawn over the course of 13+ hrs, an came across Several, and i do mean SEVERAL!! of these items. Well Being a MNK an not having much room in my inventory, yup u guessed it DESTROYED em, Now ive never played a Mage so i didnt realize what i had done till a Mage Zoned in a put out a shout about em, told him wat i had done =( He wasnt happy about it, but was kool enough to tell me wat i had done wrong, and why they where of importance to Mage's.

I will be heading back to Najena soon, i need the Blackened Sapphire, AGAIN ... and will try to hang onto as many Focus Items as i can an hand em out to any low lvl's i come across in hopes to correct my past mistake's, hehe =P

Hi Guys,

granted i haven't done much testing, just maybe 12 or 13 elementals i summoned.

I dueled a Wizard who nuked my pet for different amounts to test the pets HP.

I used the level 12 pets for this case, i didn't want him to burn too much mana nuking and didn't want the pets of a level too low that i wouldn't get an accurate reading of their HP.

I only tested this with the Stien and the Broom, but i assume that this applies to the shovel and the torch as well. With the focus items my air elemental took as much damage as an UNfocused water elem, and the focused Water elem had about 15% more hp than the unfocused one. I can't remember the exact numerical values offhand, but in the 12 or 13 elementals summoned (i had a team of newbies with me, level 9,11,13 with me and i promised them each a 2 dimesional pockets stuffed full of magic arrow/throwing daggers and food/drink and 5pp if they would help me out, so these tests were with elementals of the SAME level.

I was playing my 24 mage at the time, so i am pretty sure as heck that the focus items (broom, stein, torch and shovel) work on pets from lvl 4-49, where after that, you need the Staves of Elemental Mastery as your focus items.
lvl 34 ?
# Sep 02 2001 at 7:08 AM Rating: Decent
im a lvl 23 mage and got the torch, shovel and the broom right now, and when i get my next 100pp i will have the stein too.
im using the shovel since lvl 17 and i cant understand all guys who post it works only at lvl 34+. i tested it often and what i found out is:
the pets look larger, and they take less damage when fighting the same con mob.
loog at www.magecompendium.com. the dudes there say its workin from lvl 4+.
so get these items AFAP, cause they are really cool

OK, here's my story. When I was lvl 18 a 44 Mage helped me get the Toes, Ruby, and Shovel. I went to MM and bought a Garg eye for 5pp. Bang! Shovel of Ponz. Got bored one day and went to explore Kunark. Undead Marine killed me in OT. Lost all my stuff. At lvl 25, I did the Stein quest. Held onto it till 34, when I went to Velious, and unfortunately bound myself on a Cougar spawn point. Stein gone. Along with everything else. The happy ending to this story is, I'm 39 now, got Shovel of Ponz, Torch of Alna, Stein of Ulissa, and everything for Broom but Star Ruby.. gotta camp Oowomp for a Batskull..eheh. Focus Items don't really kick in until 34, if you can do the quests before then. You may as well wait till 34.

Ever hear of that ability to loot your body after your death?

I've been playing over 3 years and have nevel lost a corpse. Atleast not more than a temporary "can't find it" lost.

Hi there I have completed broom, torch, and shovel focus item quest. None will work until level 34 but the reclaim energy part works.
I spent weeks camping the mages in Najena trying to get what I wanted. I think this took so long because there were about 5 other mages after the same thing I was after. I then went to try and get the the last part for the stien focus item from the gators in CT and got slaughtered. So needless to say I have given up for a while.
The items are going to be worth it and I already show them off now. So if any of you run into the issues I ran into, be patient and remember no rush, you can't use these until level 34.
Important Info on this quest
# Jul 13 2001 at 12:37 PM Rating: Default
Before I waste all the time and money I spent on this quest (I am only level 13, trying to get the componenets so that my newbie mage friend can have the item), I want to make sure that I got the right components.

I have a broom which dropped from the magician in Najena.

I have cyclops toes which I bought in the commonlands.

I have an item which I believe is called "Griffon Feathers", it appears as a shiny wing/feather type item in my inventory.

I have a star ruby which I purchased for 90 pp.

Does this look right? If I give the components to my friend (who is a gnome), and he turns them in to her, in order after the prompts, should he get the broom?
BROOM?
# Jul 01 2001 at 10:15 PM Rating: Default
SO I want to do the Broom quest. Do I give her all the items at once? Or one at time? Do you have to talk to her first or can you just give the items to her. I would hate to ***** this up. I appreciate your advice.

Hey just a quick question to see if the focus items work in pouches or do you have to equip them

When you cast the pet you have to have it equiped. As soon as the pet is cast however you can put it bcak in your bag and equip anything you want. :)

The Focus Items
# Apr 22 2001 at 10:37 PM Rating: Good
I have just finished doing all the focus Item quests. They are as follows:
Shovel of Ponz:

Gargoyle Eye - can be found in Mistmoore or in OOT. I bought mine from a vender on sister island.

Hill Giant Toes: Hill giants the world over drop these... Got mine from Gornit*

Shovel: Magicians in Najena and Alligators in Cazic drop these.

Ruby: Bought mine from the vender in High Keep - any ruby will do

Torch of Alna:

Fire Drake Scale - got mine off Fire drake in Lavastorm Mountains. Could probably buy them form the gypsies camped there.

Fire Giant Toes - Just get them from Gornit*

Torch - Magicians in Najena and Alligators in Cazic drop these.

Fire Emerald - bought mine a merchant in North Freeport. Any Fire Emerald will do.

Broom of Trilon:

Griffen Feather - most griffens drop them. Bought mine in the commonlands.

Cyclopse Toes - Got mine from Gornit*

Broom - Magicians in Najena and Alligators in Cazic drop them

Star Ruby - Bought mine in North Freeport. Any Star Ruby will do

Stien of Ulissa:

Mermaid scale - Killed sirens on the spires in OOT to get these. Can also buy them from Sister Island merchants.

Frost Giant Toes - Even though Vira says you need Frost giant toes you ACTUALLY need Ice Giant toes. Get them from Gornit*.

Stien - Megicians in Najena and Alligators in Cazic drop them.

Sapphire - Got mine in North Freeport in an auction... Any Sapphire will do.

When you goto the Temple of Solusek Ro you will need to talk to Vira, she is a short Gnome on the left side of the balcony in the main room. Hail her and follow the prompts till she tells you the four items she needs for the quest you are doing. Give her the four items all at once in the order she asks for them. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST INDIFFRENT TO HER. She will give you faction, Experience, and the item you were questing for. Good Luck !!!

* Gornit is a Giant on an island in OOT near Sister Island. Just go to sister island and do a shout asking if anyone is camping Gornit, if someone is, ask them if you can get one of each toe from them. Gornit is almost always camped and the people camping him will usually give you the toes for free.

Improving faction with Vira
# Mar 19 2001 at 3:21 AM Rating: Default
Hi,
I have aquired all the needed items to complete the quest. Unfortunately I can't talk to Vira since she cons apprehensively towards me. From what i understange she has to don indifferently. I have been killing shadowed men to improve faction with Temple...I need to know how much work I need to do to get her to talk to me. If anyoen have any faction info on how much faction hits you need or wher to get the best faction pls let me know.
Thanks

Just a bit of information for you in Castle Mistmoore off the lesser faydark zone there is a grave yard in that graveyard is a small building that contains a stone coffin. Laying atop that coffin is a flower pick up the flower (Be very careful here go straight in and out of the building to either side are pit traps very nasty)

Give the flower to the renegade shadow man behind the same building that you were just in you recieve a nice little boost to temple of ro faction for doing this.

I camped the "magician spawn room for 6 hrs one day and 3 another day. Only focus item was one stein.
Broon ´n´ faction
# Feb 14 2001 at 2:36 AM Rating: Default
Yeah, killing Broon is probably the easiest way to get the cyclops toes but pull him away from the spawn point cuz if Ur LVL 24 U dont wanna be around when his bigger brother spawns, Droon, he is LVL 30 and hits hard.
Broon also spawns in the water noth of the wooden bridge so if U dont find him at one place, check the other.
If you have already hailed the Efreeti like I did, you can get faction up by killing shadowed men or kill dervish and turn in the rings to a named Orc in south ro.
There are 2 dervish camps in south ro so it´s probably best to kill them there instead of somewhere else. When U turn in the rings U give him 3 or 4 at a time, both works but Im now sure if there´s any difference, the Orc is located far in northwest and one dervish camp is straight south of him.
The shadowen men are all LVL 25 and they spawn in camps so U want to be a big group so U can take them all or ask a higher LVL to pull only one at a time if Ur not high Urself. U can find a camp in southwest corner in WC.
Good luck fellow magicians!
Those toes
# Jan 31 2001 at 5:57 AM Rating: Decent
getting most of the items but the broom is easy. getting the toes isn't. but i found where you might find all the toes needed for the focous item quest, its in the oot at the High elf that sells the lv 16-20 mage spells. Hope this helps.
Things I Learned...
# Dec 20 2000 at 1:04 AM Rating: Default
I did this quest several times before I got it right, and I wanted to post some ways to avoid the mistakes I made.
First DON"T HAIL THE EFREETI! By simply hailing the efreeti in in the temple, you will damage your faction, and your faction must be at least indifferent to succeed.
Second, give all the items to Vira at once. I read not to do this before trying the second time, and for seom reason after giving here the fourth item... nothing happened.
Now a few things I did just to be safe ( I wasn't about to take chances the third go round). I indentified all the items (broom, stein, shovel, torch) before giving them to Vira. I hailed Vira, and talked to her about the quest each time too (I did all 4 focus items at the same time). I didn't just hand her the items. I also made sure to hand the items to her in the same order in which she asked for them.

Good Luck All... Praise Innoruk!!

It's worth it for you to get a high charisma player to get you the Star Ruby. It costs 68 and a quarter plat with decent (indif) faction and good (108) charisma. You can get these from the Jeweler in North Freeport.
Look for an enchanter, they should all have high charisma.
See your friendly, neighborhood shaman
# Sep 21 2000 at 10:15 AM Rating: Default
An often-overlooked trick is to find yourself a shaman before you go shopping. Buy/beg a Spirit of Snake buff from him or her. Even fairly low shamans -- level 14 and above, I think -- have this spell, and it's a fairly long-lasting +13 CHA buff that can significantly improve prices for you.
RE: See your friendly, neighborhood shaman
# Mar 30 2001 at 10:24 AM Rating: Default
Beter yet is if you can find a higher evel shaman and have them cast The Spell Alluring. It is a charisma buff better the Spirt of Snake.
Don't know exacly what the amount of increase is, but it is more.

Shaman get their first charisma boost spell at level 14 and enchanters get their first at level 20, both classes eventually get better versions but these are the lowest levels each class can cast them on you. Bards also get a charisma boosting song but you must be grouped with them and it is a level 59 song. It seems that somewhere around 100-110 charisma is the point where vendors give you the best prices with indifferent faction, it's slightly less if they are amiable or better and if they are apprehensive I don't think you can get the best prices from. Enchanters and bards get faction increasing spells/songs but they only work for the enchanter or the bard. Some classes/races can also use sneak from behind a merchant to get to indifferent.
