Only one Corporeal Darkeness spawned, and happened when we killed the next servant of shadow. I used the aura after the kill, so assume the aura is not necessary.

This is a solo task that begins with Inorra Va Xakra (map) at location 1075, -190, 31 (outside the palace's maze). Pre-Requisites: - Level 85 - No task requirements You say, 'Hail, Inorra Va Xakra' Inorra Va Xakra says 'Look'. She points at a servant of shadow. 'Look at them. This is not how they should be. They are servants of the Goddess that have fallen into darkness. The balance of light and darkness is [shifting] in Vex Xi Va.' You say, 'Shifting?' Inorra Va Xakra says 'I have no doubts that the arrival of the shard is the cause of these changes. Light is diminishing while darkness is becoming dominant. There must always be [balance] between light and darkness or there can be no shadow.' You say, 'Balance?' Inorra Va Xakra says 'While the prophet Aten Ha Ra is dealing with the shard, others work to restore the balance where we can. The darkness must be extracted from these servants. I have a [device] which can do this, but unfortunately they must be destroyed in the process.' You say, 'What device?' Inorra Va Xakra says 'It is the Coruscating Prism. It is placed on the ground and when a servant of darkness is destroyed nearby, their darkness is absorbed by the prism. It can only hold so much darkness though before it must be [purged].' You say, 'Purged?' Inorra Va Xakra says 'The purging process will release all the darkness contained within at which time it would take a corporeal form. Not knowing the nature of the darkness I could not guess what form it may take. Regardless, this entity of darkness would need to be [destroyed] to restore the balance.' You say, 'Destroyed?' Inorra Va Xakra says 'Even though the servants have fallen into darkness, I have no desire to destroy them myself. They are still the servants of my Goddess. Given your interest in these matters, perhaps you would [consent] to undertake this duty in my place.' You say, 'I consent!' Inorra Va Xakra says 'I am pleased. Here is the Coruscating Prism. Return it to me when you have completed purging the darkness.' You have been assigned the task 'Attacking the Darkness'. You have agreed to assist Inorra Va Xakra. Restore the balance between light and darkness by removing excess darkness from servants of shadow. Using the Coruscating Prism will place it on the ground. Defeating a servant of shadow within its light will draw the darkness into the prism. Absorb the darkness from 8 servants of shadow 0/8 (Plane of Shadow) Right-click the item to spawn an aura. Kill "a servant of shadow" inside the aura. Destroy the corporeal darkness 0/1 (Plane of Shadow) You may need to engage a 9th "a servant of shadow" in order to spawn "corporeal darkness" (reportedly spawns while fighting the 9th mob). Note that you will spawn one "corporeal darkness" for each player in your group who's on this task step. Just a helpful hint on this quest. It will not let you spawn the crystal if you have an aura running. clicking it off dosent work either make sure you are aura free or have someone else click it for you.

Do the spawned 'servant of shadow' have to be killed within the one minute that the aura lasts?
also .. the corporeal darkness spawned in addition to the servant of shadow (#9) that we were fighting.
after 8 kills, the 9th mob spawned 2x corporeal darkness (probably because of 2 toons) ... update for both on one kill .. didn't have to kill both for update (for both toons).
Whole group of four people did that Quest. The Update came for all, regardless who set the Shard active. But at the 8th kill no corporeal Darkness spawned. The 8th had to be also triggered by another one of the group, if you set too many and fail to kill them then use the other fellows shards. It could also be that the 9th kill is the real Named. At the end the Named spawned while killing a shadow. He killed one in the group. But while fighting we set a fellowship and slowed down DPS, then the killed one ported back to fellowship and the update was ok.
The Shadows seem more easy than the other trash, so at lvl 99/100 a quest to be able to do. While Chelsith seemed out of balance, Plane of Shadow is something which makes fun and is possible to do even without a raid gear ;)
