This task begins with Lady Carolline of Thex in Northern Felwithe. She is located at 0, -170 (on the balcony overlooking the entrance: you can use the Find Feature, CTRL+F, to get to her).

Initiating the Task

You say, 'Hail, Lady Carolline of Thex'

Lady Carolline of Thex smiles, trying to hide an obvious air of sadness, 'Greetings adventurer, such a lovely day isn't it?' The pained look on her face clearly gives away that something is [wrong].

You say, 'What's wrong?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'Wrong? Oh, nothing really. My beloved is off again on some [excursion] and has yet to return. I'm quite sure he will be fine though. How I miss our adventures together, the time we would spend exploring the hidden beauty of Norrath. We were especially fond of [Antonica].'

You say, 'Why were you fond of Antonica?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'A lovely land, despite the efforts of humans to ruin it...' The Koada`Dal's smile becomes more sincere. 'Lake Rathetear, oh the [stories] I could share of moonlit nights sitting on the docks. The noble aviaks keeping ardent guard over the sacred flame, the sunken towers and legend of the Megalodon...' She sighs and looks up to the sky.'

You say, 'What stories could you share?'

Lady Carolline of Thex blinks and looks back to you, her demeanor changing. 'Tell you what stranger, you come up with an [interesting tale] to distract me from my boredom, and I'll see if I can find something to [reward] you for your effort.'

You say, 'What reward would that be?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'Hmm, already pondering your riches before the effort of imagination? I suppose not many adventurers care to put any effort into their journeys these days.' The young high elf sighs. 'Anyway, what you will be rewarded with is something befitting a _____ such as yourself.'

You say, 'I have an interesting tale to tell'

Lady Carolline of Thex says, 'Something grand, truly epic and interesting! Just let me know when you've thought of a suitable story.'

You have been assigned the task 'An Epic Request'.

Be sure to carry your epic artifact with you!

    The Event

Note: The event requires usage of your epic weapon, so have it on you.

When you approach the bear cave, you see:

From within the cave you hear a dire howling!

A lumbering beast throws you backwards out of the cave as it takes off into the distance!

Something is obviously unwell in the woods, [track] down that bear to find out more!

Use track to to find "faded prints". When you get to the correct tree, you see:

You survey the ground to find faded prints of a large bear. You're getting closer...

Check track and follow "broken branches" to the next tree:

The snapped twigs on the ground here appear somewhat out of place... In the distance you spot a curious looking canine.

Turn around until you see a wolf called "a frantic wolf" and hail it:

You say, 'Hail, a frantic wolf'

a frantic wolf barks frantically hoping you will understand him... Your ability to speak his language is somewhat lacking in your current form though. Perhaps if you were a bit more canine you could understand him...

Change your form to a wolf with a spell (Wolf or Greater Wolf Form, or even the AA "Guardian of the Forest"):

You say, 'Hail, a frantic wolf'

a frantic wolf howls, 'Bear! Something evil! Hatred! Woof! Look for his claw marks on the trees!' The frantic canine takes off into the woods!

Check track and follow "clawed bark" to the next tree.

As you inspect the claw marks on the side of the tree you begin to have a better understanding of what the wolf meant by evil. Suddenly a furious squawking is heard!

A distressed aviak yells, 'Squaaaaak! Help, I can't slow down!!!!!' Find some way to slow the poor bird down!

Chase down the nearby "a distressed aviak" and snare it. Note that it runs at bard speed. If it makes it to the docks, it'll make a big circle around, so you can stand in one spot and keep hitting snare until it gets into your range.

The panicked aviak squawks, 'I am indebted to you friend! Some dark force had taken over my legs! Some evil thing has taken root in our woods! Look for [Hopkit], he might know more.'

    Check track and follow "Hopkit":

    You say, 'Hail, Hopkit'

Hopkit snarls at you angrily, 'This evil must be you!' Perhaps you should find a way to [calm him] so you two can converse...

Use a pacify or calm spell on Hopkit. (You'll also want to load a balm cure spell.)

Hopkit looks more reasonable now, try talking to him again!

    You say, 'Hail, Hopkit'

Hopkit says, 'Maybe it is not you... Some evil lurks in my woods!'

The Vessel of Hate waves his hand over the nature spirit and laughs before disappearing into darkness.

Don't attack or you will get:

A motherly voice calls out to you, 'Please do not harm Hopkit. Find a way to [CURE him] of his affliction...'

You heard the lady. Balm him.

The snarling rabbit shrieks at your attempt to help it.

    Balm it again:

The rabbit cries out as the affliction of hate is drawn from its body!

    And again:

The rabbit's curse has been lifted!

Hopkit says, 'Thank you my friend! I fear our friend Beyar may have been afflicted worse than any of us! Please, find him and do what you can...'

Now, you'll need to track and follow "fresh prints" again:

From these tracks you notice a distinct and familiar corruption in the ground. You look up to see Beyar, indeed afflicted far worse than the other creatures!

Check track and follow "Beyar Liikedeh", who you'll find encased in ice and in need of help (hit him with a fire nuke):

Having melted the aura of ice you sense an [arcane aura] binding the creature's legs. Find some way to counteract its magical properties!

You'll need to now hit him with a magic-based nuke ("Dustdevil"; "Careless Lightning"; "Horde of Hornets"; and "Beetle Swarm" work for this).

Having broken his arcane bindings the bear looks around wide-eyed and confused...

I will not rest until I see this earth has died screaming! Starting with you Beyar!!

A Teir`Dal named "Reaver Kildraz X`Tin" spawns and begins attacking Beyar. Attack the Reaver:

An explosion of hate sends you flying backwards. You must find someway to [damage him from a distance]!

The Reaver draws power from your attempt to attack him directly and is visibly healthier now!

You'll need to use range (bow) attacks on him. If you try using spells, you'll see:

The dark aura surrounding the knight dispels your attempt to use magical attacks.

Soon after using archery, you'll see:

    Enough of this game!

    Keep going until you see:

You get the feeling your nature attuned weaponry will be effective against this foe! Perhaps something imbued with the powers of EARTH and WIND.

Equip your 1.0 swords. (It's possible 1.5/2.0 may work as well, but not known for sure.) Attack him:

An otherworldy scream is retched forth from the dark knight.

Reaver Kildraz X`Tin says 'Grah!' The dark elf clutches his chest, 'Don't think this is over! Not as long as Xanuusus stands and my kin must suffer your existance!!'

Beyar Liikedeh grunts, 'Thank you _____, we are again indebted for your service to nature. Always know you have an ally in us!' The bear leans its head back and lets loose a loud call...'

Your task 'An Epic Request' has been updated.

    The Avatar of Growth appears:

The Avatar of Growth looks over the woods and then upon you. She smiles, slightly nodding her head. Your service has affirmed her admiration for you.

As you reflect upon the delicate balance of nature, the most poignant memory of your journey to repel Innoruuk's first invasion comes to mind... Farios Elianos's words, 'Whyin the nine hells would I need a crushed pot? Perhaps I could use it to not hold water! Why did you even bother me with this? Are you mentally deficient?'

Once you've done this event (and all other "explore" steps are updated), you can return to Lady Carolline to finish the task.

Hopkit needs 3x Cure spells. I tried healing him while WS and nothing happened. Hopkit runs very slowly, so I ran away, memmed cure poison (Level 70, no Balm yet) and got him as he chased me down. Very short range on that, so run away, cure, run away, cure, each time he got a hit in as the spell landed.

In order to complete the Ranger Epic Retelling achievement, you need to forage the following items before you kill Reaver Kildraz X`Ti:

Foraged after you are punted from the bear cave but before you find the first track point: Beyar's Rattle
Foraged after first track point and before hailing the frantic wolf: Frantic Wolf's Favorite
Foraged after hail of frantic wolf and before curing Hopkit: Hopkit's Lost Carrot
Foraged after curing Hopkit and before killing Reaver Kildraz X`ti: Lingering Essence of Corruption

From what I was able to tell, if you did not get the foraged items in the period mentioned above, they could not be foraged. I spent 2.5 hours at the point of killing Reaver Kildraz X`ti attempting to get one of my last pieces before I gave up and tried the event again.

I did find that if you do not kill the Reaver by a specific time (approximately 1 hour from the time you are punted from the bear cave) the 'Event' will reset. This is convenient if you missed getting an item since you can just head to the caves and get punted again. At which point, it will be possible to forage the items you may have missed in the correct task section of the event.

The items are No Store, No Zone, No Trade. It means that if you want to complete this achievement, you need to stay in zone from the time you are punted from the bear cave to the end when Tunare appears. Do not zone or crash.

This post was very helpful, thank you.

    In my experience:
I foraged right after landing from being kicked from the cave for: Beyar's Rattle
I waited until after I found the broken branches and before I hailed the frantic wolf to find: Frantic Wolf's Favorite Branch.
After snaring the aviak before interacting with Hopkit to find: Hopkit's Lost Carrot
After I found the fresh prints and before I interacted with Beyar for the: Lingering Essence of Corruption.

It may have been luck but I got all the items on the first or second forage attempt.

For what it's worth, the 20 hour lockout timer on this quest appears to be based on when you started it, not when you finished it. If you take 4 hours to finish it, it's only 16 more hours until you can start again. If you accept the quest and wait an entire day before finishing it, you will be able to re-accept the quest immediately. If you don't complete the quest and remove/drop it, you can of course immediately start again no matter how long or short a time it's been.

I just did it at 92.

For everybody, you only have to do each generation once. If you claim 1.5/2.0 at the end of it, you can get as many copies of either of those as you want. You'll have to do it again for Earthcaller/Swiftwind. Just say "epic gift" to her over and over again and get as many as you want. All four of my weapon combos are now all Aurora :)

Where it shows above to equip the 1.0, that 1.5/2.0 may work, I can confirm that 2.0 is fine. It was all I had with me at the time.
