This task begins with Lady Carolline of Thex in Northern Felwithe. She is located at 0, -170 (on the balcony overlooking the entrance: you can use the Find Feature, CTRL+F, to get to her).

Initiating the Task

You say, 'Hail, Lady Carolline of Thex'

Lady Carolline of Thex smiles, trying to hide an obvious air of sadness, 'Greetings adventurer, such a lovely day isn't it?' The pained look on her face clearly gives away that something is [wrong].

You say, 'What's wrong?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'Wrong? Oh, nothing really. My beloved is off again on some [excursion] and has yet to return. I'm quite sure he will be fine though. How I miss our adventures together, the time we would spend exploring the hidden beauty of Norrath. We were especially fond of [Antonica].'

You say, 'Why were you fond of Antonica?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'A lovely land, despite the efforts of humans to ruin it...' The Koada`Dal's smile becomes more sincere. 'Lake Rathetear, oh the [stories] I could share of moonlit nights sitting on the docks. The noble aviaks keeping ardent guard over the sacred flame, the sunken towers and legend of the Megalodon...' She sighs and looks up to the sky.'

You say, 'What stories could you share?'

Lady Carolline of Thex blinks and looks back to you, her demeanor changing. 'Tell you what stranger, you come up with an [interesting tale] to distract me from my boredom, and I'll see if I can find something to [reward] you for your effort.'

You say, 'What reward would that be?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'Hmm, already pondering your riches before the effort of imagination? I suppose not many adventurers care to put any effort into their journeys these days.' The young high elf sighs. 'Anyway, what you will be rewarded with is something befitting a _____ such as yourself.'

You say, 'I have an interesting tale to tell'

Lady Carolline of Thex says, 'Something grand, truly epic and interesting! Just let me know when you've thought of a suitable story.'

You have been assigned the task 'An Epic Request'.

Be sure to carry your epic artifact with you!

Explore Locations

NOTE: There are 16 "explore" locations. Each location represents one class and, for that one class, will trigger an event. The other 15 classes only need to explore the location.

  • Explore the Stage of Baladric's Symphony 0/1 (Dreadlands)

Task Window Says: Baldric Slezaf's tale is the pursuance of impossible beauty -- a symphony to rival the works of Ayonae Ro.

/loc 780, 9690, 1070 (valley with the portals -- in a pyramid near Baldric Slezaf). For non-Bards, this is a simple location update. For Bards, this initiates an event (for class event details, see the next section in this writeup).

  • Explore the Valley of McArik's Reflection 0/1 (Lake of Ill Omen)

Task Window Says: Keras McArik stands stoic in a valley east of what was once Veksar.

/loc -225, -3535, 235 (near Keras McArik, due east of the center of the lake, near the zone boundary). For non-Berserkers, this is a simple location update. For Berserkers, this initiates an event (for class event details, see the next section in this writeup).

  • Explore the Depths Behind the Scaled Mystics 0/1 (East Cabilis)

Task Window Says: Beneath the Scaled Mystics' Temple lies a rather complex series of tunnels.

/loc 940, -450, -22 (in the halls under the Shadow Knight, Beastlord, and Shaman guild). For non-Enchanters, this is a simple location update. For Enchanters, this initiates an event (for class event details, see the next section in this writeup).

  • Explore the Outer Remnants of Torsis' Dark Mantle 0/1 (Emerald Jungle)

Task Window Says: Standing just outside the ruins of Torsis you can feel the intense spiritual void that caused the city's downfall.

/loc 295, -2000, -322 (at the entrance to City of Mist). For non-Shamans, this is a simple location update. For Shamans, this initiates an event (for class event details, see the next section in this writeup).

  • Explore the Oasis in a Deserted Sea 0/1 (Timorous Deep)

Task Window Says: In a sea of desolate islands stands one secluded, sacred paradise.

/loc -11550, -1710, 13 (in the walled isle where the Cleric 2.0 final battle is held and the triggered Faydedar is located). For non-Clerics, this is a simple location update. For Clerics, this initiates an event (for class event details, see the next section in this writeup).

  • Explore the Bloody, Forgotten Trail of Hate's First Knight 0/1 (North Ro)

Task Window Says: When Lhranc returned to Freeport to exact vengeance upon his brother, Glohnor, he took a particular trail into the city.

/loc 9625, 520, 25 (entrance to the Freeport Sewers in the very far northwest corner of the zone). For non-Shadow Knights, this is a simple location update. For Shadow Knights, this initiates an event (for class event details, see the next section in this writeup).

  • Explore the Orbital Children of Ro 0/1 (West Freeport)

Task Window Says: There are not many locations on Norrath where you can see Drinal, Luclin, Anbeal, Trorsmang, Cordon, and Ro all at once.

/loc -185, -940, 20 (a study hall in arcane tower, near entrance to Arcstone). For non-Wizards, this is a simple location update. For Wizards, this initiates an event (for class event details, see the next section in this writeup).

  • Explore the Plains of the Legendary Pegasus 0/1 (South Karana)

Task Window Says: Many people are amazed at the constructive feats of the Aviaks. How such noble but simple creatures were able to create such a majestic tower is still a mystery.

/loc -6745, 1065, 6 (Aviak's treehouse, just north of zone-in from Lake Rathetear). For non-Magicians, this is a simple location update. For Magicians, this initiates the following event.

Your ancient weapon of power begins to glow. A voice whispers from the orb, 'The Elements are out of balance, you must help them!' In the distance you hear a pained call. Something is amiss atop the Aviak village. Perhaps you should go [identify] the problem.

When you get there there will be 4 elementals. 3 on the various Aviak perches around the top, and one in the fire pot in the middle of the large building at the top of the treehouse. C asting the spell "Identify" on each one will give you a hint as to what they need to 'balance' them.

Blind Air Elemental – Summoned Heatstone
The swirling air elemental glows, its sight returning. The element of air has returned to balance.

Wounded Earth Elemental – Summoned Bandages
The damaged earth elemental regains its strength. The element of earth has returned to balance.

Thirsty Water Elemental – Summoned Globe of Water
The coalesced flowing water elemental swirls with strong inner-currents. The element of water has returned to balance.

Hungry Fire Elemental – Summoned Black Bread
The ravenous flame elemental burns brightly with its newly obtained fuel. The element of fire has returned to balance.

If you fail to give them the right items before a certain amount of time they aggro. They are dark blue at 100 but only hit ~400 dmg. Kill them and it progresses the task as though you had balanced them with the proper hand ins.

The Aviaks begin squawking, they appear to be growing restless. You should return to ground level and find out why...
You see what appears to be the leader of the Aviak tribe motion toward you. He squawks angrily. Perhaps if you had a [minion] that could [speak] on your behalf [to this creature

Once you get to the bottom an Angry Aviak will spawn and start running back and forth pulling you to it. Load up ANY level version of Monster summoning. Keep summoning a pet until the pet spawns as an Aviak. Any pet you already had, or any monster summon pets that are not Aviaks, will be killed each time the Aviak pulls you. If you don’t get one up soon enough the Angry Aviak will attack. Just Kill it to continue to the next phase. Once you kill the Angry Aviak or get the Aviak pet, the Aviak despawns and you get the following message:

Although you are at a loss as to why the creature attacked you, you sense something ominous in your future...
The voice of the orb begins to speak but is muffled by the sound of howling wind. You should prepare yourself to face the wrath of the elements!

You have two and a half minutes before the Wind Harbinger arrives.

Once the time is up you get the following message:

In the distance the furious flapping of wings is heard. The once boisterous Aviaks now stand silently, as if trying to avoid the incoming beast's wrath.

Filthy two-legged parasite! Your corpse should prove fine sustenance for my plains.

Squallmane the Harbinger of Wind spawns and attacks you. Little pegasus mobs spawn throughout the fight. They all, named pegasus included, only hit 300-500ish and con dark blue to 105. At about 50% Squallmane runs away at faster than bard speed to the top of the hill between the Aviak Village and Splitpaw with the following message:

The orb's voice overpowers the sound of howling wind, 'He is retreating, chase after h…'

He will start tossing you back and forth between Splitpaw and the Aviak Birdhouse. He will do this several times. He will stop after a set number of tosses. During the tossing you will land closer to the Hill he is on each time. When he stops, he will summon you to him at the top of the hill with the following message:

A whirlwind begins to form around Squallmane. From the torrential gusts comes a familiar being from your past…

The Shadow of Quillmane spawns and a couple more baby pegasus adds. After a couple seconds a voice will tell you to equip your epic. ANY epic (1.0, 1.5, 2.0) will work, but you MUST have one of either of these three epics on your person. Equip it and a skeleton of Magi`Kot will spawn, the pegasus mobs will depop, with the following dialog:

Spirit of Trilith Magi`Kot says, 'Beasts, your wrath is misplaced in this Magician! He brings balance to the world despite your loss. Look to yourself, your chaos, your unbridled desire to overpower the other elements, these things should you distain...'

Spirit of Trilith Magi`Kot focuses a spell of elemental balance and disperses the harbinger and its mate back into the forces of wind...

A great booming voice shakes the bowels of the earth, cracks the sky and nearly throws you off of your feet, '... I... THOUGHT... MORE... OF... YOU... THAN... THIS!.. MAGI`KOT... YOUR... FATE... HAS... BEEN... DECIDED...'

Your task 'An Epic Request' has been updated.

The Arch Elementalist's ethereal form fades into nothingness. The gems on your weapon radiate with his presence. Magi`Kot's spirit has returned to the Orb of Mastery. The balance of the elements has been restored.

I was thrown back and forth over the hill for well over 5 minutes and could not get him to stop and fight me until I dropped my lev. Once I dropped it, he summoned me to the top of the hill and I was able to finish this part of the quest.

When I tried to do this, the constant tossing back and forth always interrupted me before I could get monster summoning off. Once the Angry Aviak finally aggroed on me, I was able to get the spell off, and within a couple tries got an aviak. At that point, he just killed my little aviak. So, I unsuspended my real pet and just killed him. I got an emote about not understanding why it had attacked me, but from that point on, the event proceeded normally, and I still got the update.

The task is the exact same for each class, however each classes' "event" will trigger at a different zone update spot. If you aren't of that class, when you get to that zone it simply updates and you leave. If you are the right class, when you get to that zone the event triggers, you complete it, and you get the update and leave. Only exception, kinda, is the Wizard update in Freeport. After completing the task once, when you return to the Wiz update spot in the Academy of Arcane Science, it will add you to a DZ and you can enter the Freeport instance (The Arcane Fair instance). You can't progress the instance unless you're a wizard and in the Epic Request task, however you can do the two little 'games' for the Copper Points to win the prizes.

At anyrate, the mage event triggers in South Karana at the Aviak Birdhouse. When you get there it will tell you to go to the top of the birdhouse. There will be 4 elementals. 3 on the various Aviak perches around the top, and one in the fire pot in the middle of the large building at the top of the treehouse. Casting the spell "Identify" on each one will give you a hint as to what they need to 'balance' them. Earth needs summoned bandages, fire needs summoned food, water needs summoned drink, air needs a summoned heatstone. If you fail to give them the right items before a certain amount of time they aggro. They are dark blue at 100 but only hit ~400 dmg. Kill them and it progresses the task as though you had balanced them with the proper hand ins. At this point it tells you to return to the bottom of the treehouse. An Aviak will spawn and start running back and forth pulling you to it. It says you need a creature to communicate with it, load up ANY level version of Monster summoning. Keep summoning a pet until the pet spawns as an Aviak. Any pet you already had, or any monster summon pets that are not Aviaks, will be killed each time the Aviak pulls you. Once you get the Aviak pet, the Aviak despawns and you get 2 minutes to set back up. At this point a large Pegasus spawns and attacks you. It spawns little pegasus mobs throughout the fight. They all, named pegasus included, only hit 300-500ish and con dark blue to 100. At about 50% the pegasus runs away at faster than bard speed to the top of a hill between the Aviak Birdhouse and Splitpaw. He will start tossing you back and forth between Splitpaw and the Aviak Birdhouse. He will do this several times. It seemed casting Perfected Levitation caused him to stop on my first run, however it seemed to do nothing the second time I ran it. It's possible he will simply stop on his own after a set number of tosses and nothing can stop him. When he finally does stop, either way, he will summon you to him at the top of the hill and spawns a second named pegasus and a couple more baby pegasus adds. After a couple seconds a voice will tell you to equip your epic. ANY epic (1.0, 1.5, 2.0) will work, but you MUST have one of either of these three epics on your person. Equip it and a skeleton of Magi`Kot will spawn, the pegasus mobs will depop, some dialogue occurs, and you get the update and can continue with the task.

It's been about a week since I did this (I'm on Test so we got this early) but I'll rerun it shortly to get you exact transcripts of the dialogues and the exact npc names and screenshots.

Like with all classes' epic ornament tasks, when you complete this for mage if you select 1.0 ornament you get a copy of the ornament and also flagged to request Lady Caroline to give you a copy of 1.0 ornament at any time. If you select either 1.5 or 2.0 ornaments as a reward you will get a copy of whichever ornament you selected, as well as flagged to request 1.5 ornament (if you completed 1.5 only...which in that case you cannot request 2.0 reward, only 1.5) or 1.5 AND 2.0 (if you completed 2.) ornaments from Lady Caroline at any time. In other words, you can complete this task twice to get all 3 ornaments. 2 directly and third by request due to the flags from the reward. You must have completed whatever actual epic you intend to request as a reward. In otherwords, you cannot have only done 1.5 prequest/1.5 and 2.0 and expect to get a 1.0 ornament. or only done 1.0 and expect to get 1.5 or 2.0 ornament.

Thank you for your MikuRBD! Your post helped me a lot. I just wanted to add that the last part with the Pegasus "tossing" is stopped by turning around to face him each time he tosses you about and running towards the mountain. You'll get closer each time, until you're so close your pet can actually attack him, and then he summons you to the top, and the add appears. It's also good to have something like Hulking Bodyguard buffed on yourself before the fight starts, to stop all the "A Winged Pest" from poking you too hard and too often, and to give your pet a chance to pick them up (4 will pop right on top of you).

there is a simple trick to prevent the named pegasus from tossing you around. Once the named aviak despawns... make your pet and equip/buff him fast. Then run straight to the top of the mountain (between aviak nest and splitpaw mound). When the named pegasus spawns.. he will agro you and run to you. Engage him at that spot... (the spot where he would run to if you attacked him to 50% ). He will just stay there at 50% and the fight continues. Make sure to enable your epic during the fight.

There is nothing to be gained by doing ANY of this quest. It's nothing more than an ornament that can be placed in a type 20 slot.

The ornament is what you gain. Many people loved the look of their epics. This quest allows you to get an ornament so you can always have your weapons look like the epic.

Well you get 1 AA point, though you would probably be able to get that a lot faster hunting rather than doing the quest.
