This task begins with Lady Carolline of Thex in Northern Felwithe. She is located at 0, -170 (on the balcony overlooking the entrance: you can use the Find Feature, CTRL+F, to get to her).

Initiating the Task

You say, 'Hail, Lady Carolline of Thex'

Lady Carolline of Thex smiles, trying to hide an obvious air of sadness, 'Greetings adventurer, such a lovely day isn't it?' The pained look on her face clearly gives away that something is [wrong].

You say, 'What's wrong?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'Wrong? Oh, nothing really. My beloved is off again on some [excursion] and has yet to return. I'm quite sure he will be fine though. How I miss our adventures together, the time we would spend exploring the hidden beauty of Norrath. We were especially fond of [Antonica].'

You say, 'Why were you fond of Antonica?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'A lovely land, despite the efforts of humans to ruin it...' The Koada`Dal's smile becomes more sincere. 'Lake Rathetear, oh the [stories] I could share of moonlit nights sitting on the docks. The noble aviaks keeping ardent guard over the sacred flame, the sunken towers and legend of the Megalodon...' She sighs and looks up to the sky.'

You say, 'What stories could you share?'

Lady Carolline of Thex blinks and looks back to you, her demeanor changing. 'Tell you what stranger, you come up with an [interesting tale] to distract me from my boredom, and I'll see if I can find something to [reward] you for your effort.'

You say, 'What reward would that be?'

Lady Carolline of Thex says 'Hmm, already pondering your riches before the effort of imagination? I suppose not many adventurers care to put any effort into their journeys these days.' The young high elf sighs. 'Anyway, what you will be rewarded with is something befitting a _____ such as yourself.'

You say, 'I have an interesting tale to tell'

Lady Carolline of Thex says, 'Something grand, truly epic and interesting! Just let me know when you've thought of a suitable story.'

You have been assigned the task 'An Epic Request'.

Be sure to carry your epic artifact with you!

Explore Locations

NOTE: There are 16 "explore" locations. Each location represents one class and, for that one class, will trigger an event. The other 15 classes only need to explore the location.

the iksar phantasm that you hail at step 8 according to the walkthrough posted here is not the same phantasm that's required for the special ornament. the ornament mob is a phantasm imitator and is on the path you take prior to reaching the high elf. the imitator will not speak to you unless you have jeb's seal on you. hail him, turn in seal, then complete his prompt. boom! green text epic ornament coming at you!

I just completed this quest 4 times. The guide in the comments below is fairly accurate. There are a few corrections:

First, you do not need to have any of your Epic weapons with you, but if you want to add the interesting twist to the tale, you will need to bring Jeb's seal from the original epic quest (hope you didn't get rid of it).

    1. Hail Klok Denip and then say "Jeb sent me" to begin the dialogue. It is advisable to Illusion: Iksar and Inv after speaking with him.

    4. This is where you get the interesting twist. The Iksar phantasm is actually called a Phantasmal Impersonator. Hail him, but DO NOT follow the text prompts. If you do, he will disappear and you will have to complete the quest again after the 20 hour time out (speaking from experience). Instead, give him Jeb's seal at this point. He will take the seal and give you a small token in return (I got 2 muffins) but you also get the green text that tells you this should make an interesting story when you retell the tale. Now you can follow the text prompt [dead], and he will disappear. You'll want to Illusion: High Elf now before you get to the distraught high elf.

    5. Do not step too far into the right hallway. There is an invisible floor trap a few feet inside the hallway. I did not charm the guy on any of my runs, but I did fall down the trap once and had to come back up.

    6. After Krog runs off, go north, and when you are teleported, go down the center hallway until you fall down the hole.

    9. Run down the hallway to the right to be ported to the river.

    10. Illusion: Iksar before you talk to Lord Korzin.

If you take a wrong turn at any point, you will be ported back to the last port-in until you get it right. There does not seem to be any penalty for getting things wrong. I ran in circles for a good while the first 2 times and still completed the quest and got the reward.

FYI: You have to complete the Epic Request 3 times in order to get the "interesting twist" reward. You can turn in Jeb's seal to the phantasmal impersonator on any run and you will get the green text, but you will not get the reward until you have completed the third run. You can see the special ornaments for all of the classes on display in the towers on either side of the quest giver. The enchanter ornament is called "Vision".

Do these steps match the above quest steps? Also, is the reward for finishing the interesting twist the Vision ornamentation?

Yes, the reward for "interesting twist" is Vision.

The Bold/Large part is not correct though. Simply complete the task, drop the quest and pick it up again.

An Epic Request (An Epic Retelling) only provides a lockout upon successful completion. For any of them, if a mistake is made, dropping the quest has no lockout, only completing the quest does.

Some events (like the Enchanter event) have mechanics which prevent you from leaving the area (Gate, Origin, Etc don't work). You can either finish the script, then drop the quest, or drop the quest and wait ~20 mins (I had logged out the enchanter, so I'm not 100% positive on the time, but it takes several minutes before the area resets.)

    "Level Appropriate Calm"
    # Jan 27 2019 at 4:25 PM Rating: Decent
Just for clarification -- you need to cast your highest level (i.e. if you are 89, you use your level 87 calm spell) calm on the prisoner. It's the only one that works. So "Calm" (for instance) will only work for a lvl 18+, up until you get your next calm spell.
If you're 90, your 72 "Quiet Mind" won't work, it has to be Bucolic Mind. If you're 92. Bucolic Mind will no longer work.
    Hope that explains things.

For chanters, Klok will not talk to you at first. You have to tell him "Jeb sent me" and then his opinion of you will change drastically.

I just did An Epic Retelling and used my guide to successfully complete it. I noted the corrections found in the comments and fixed what needed to be fixed.

Once you zone into East Cabilis, you'll get an emote and a Find path will appear. It will lead you to Klok Denip:

    1. Say, "Jeb sent me." to Klok Denip and follow his text prompts. He'll want you to cast 4 different illusions upon yourself before you can continue with the quest. He will also give you a book. Right click on it and say, "Finished". Once you're done, you will want to Illusion: Iksar (invisi if KoS) and go into the SK guildhall (First building as zone in from Field of Bone). Turn right immediately and walk into the red curtain, this will port you up one level. Drop down the ladder and then go out onto the balcony. Go left and into the next room. Drop down each ladder you come to, until you're at the bottom.

    2. Follow hallways to the right, until you come upon Crusader Srik (there will be an emote just before you turn the last corner). Cast an Alliance spell on him then Hail. He will ask you what your business is, and you reply, "I'm here to interrogate the prisoner on behalf of Emporer Vekin". You will be teleported to another room.

2a. From this point onward, you will have two spells in your song window that will prevent you from leaving the zone. You can camp and go to starting city, if you fail or need to leave. The spells will not drop until you've completed the task and are ported back to the Cabilis entrance and you zone out.

    3. Once you've reached the first room, look around for a symbol on the wall. This marks a hidden doorway. Walk through and see the prisoner in a cage. Target and Hail the prisoner. Say, "Free". This will initiate the prisoner freeing himself. Once he's free, cast a Calm spell on him, which will cause him to ask for the letters. Give him the book and you'll be teleported again to another spot.

    4. Go up until you come to an intersection of hallways. Each of the 3 hallways has a hole trap, ignore the Human female to the left. Turn right, there is a hidden door on the left wall before the trap, use it to bypass the drop. Follow the hallway until you see an phantasm imitator, ignore him, turn right and go to next hallway. To the right you'll see a Erudite and to the left you'll see a Dwarf. Go left and turn right just before the Dwarf. Follow hallway until you come upon a distraught high elf (Illusion High Elf might be needed). Say, "Serol". You will then need to drop down the pit in the West hall and go east.

4a(A Retelling Twist)This is the part for the Retelling quest. Enchanters must have done the Requests for their 1.0 and 2.0 and have their Jeb's Seal in inventory for this part to work. When you approach the phantasm imitator above, stop and hail before continuing. If you see, "a phantasm imitator stares at you, curious why you're still in possession of his seal.", you've done everything right and can give him Jeb's Seal. He will give you two muffins in exchange. Once done, finish his prompts and he'll disappear. Continue on with the rest of the instructions to finish.

    5. You'll come upon a room with a wooden door and some crates, with a hallway to the right. There are crates here as well. Once you've entered the room (you may need to click the door), you will trigger Trooper Kresh, there will be an emote telling you to hide. You can either step into the right hallway and crouch behind the crates, or you can cast Charm on him. If he doesn't see you, he will step through the door and disappear. You can follow him through. If you Charmed him, just go through as well.

    6. Go East until you find Krog Losaf, (Illusion Troll might be needed), hail and follow text. He will run off after. Go North and find the trapped floor where the Human female was standing(it will be a right turn at a corner, just jump down) . Drop down and run East until you find the room with Krog Losaf. Hail him and then Memory Blur. (He will weakly attack until you Blur). This will teleport you to the next spot.

    7. You will be standing in front of a 2 handed Enchanter pet. Cast a Spin/Stun spell on it to be pulled across the trap in the floor. Turn left and you will see a Dwarven miner. Cast Memory Blur on him to be teleported to the next spot.

    8. Stand close and Hail the Iksar phantasm. Follow the hallway around to next room and turn left and walk to the West wall to be ported to another area, then move back North to the room you last saw Krog Losaf in. Once you enter you will be ported to another area.

    9. There will be a blind projection in each of 3 hallways. Pick one to walk past to be ported into the underground river. If you choose incorrectly, you'll be ported back to same spot to choose again. Swim East to the end, where you will be teleported to the next area.

    10. Illusion Iksar and walk to Lord Korzin. Hail him and say, "Slave". You'll be teleported.

    11. Moving forward you will see Lavok Sref in a depression, target him and say, "Escape", then say, "Fear". You will then be shrouded as a Froglok automatically. Make sure to load and make hotkeys for Insight and Replicate. You will then be teleported back into the water where you will be drowned until dead. Take the death, you will not lose XP. Click Respawn. You will respawn in the final room.

    12. Walk up to and target Hergor, cast Insight, then Replicate. He will disappear. Go to Korg Losaf, target him and say, "Caged". He will disappear.

    13. Walk up to Gillia Brissok, cast Insight, then Replicate. She will disappear. Go to Serol Galavok, target him and say, "Concealed". He will disappear.

    14. Walk up to Crovsar Dirkbringer, cast Insight, then Replicate. He will disappear. Go to Asof Rogel, target him and say, "Miners". He will disappear.

15 Walk up to Lord Korzin, cast Insight, then Replicate. He will disappear. Go to Lavok Sref, target him and say, "Insane".

After some emotes and diaglogue, this will complete this task. You will find yourself ported back to the Cabilis entrance, zone out to lose the task spells keeping you in zone.

PLEASE HELP, I can't get past this part "Say, "Serol". You will then need to drop down the pit in the West hall and go east." Drop down WHAT Pit ? Where is this pit PLEASE. Do I back out from the Illusion High Elf? There is No West from her.

Edit: You can't hail her, you have to be in High Elf Illusion. Just say Serol. Took me 5 trys at this point to figure it out. This is a very wicked Quest!!

I have no memory of writing this post, but as I'm doing the Retelling, I'm going to follow my own steps and see if they work. Wish me luck.

Per the 2013 post from DarkryftFromCazic, all steps are mostly accurate, in the correct order, and up to date as of 12/10/2019, however, there are some little tidbits that were off or lacking in relevant details that drove me bat **** crazy.

4 hours, and approximately 4 attempts into this, I have finally completed the chanter portion of the "explore" horse ****, and am now preparing to crush the rest of it.

Also, if you biff this up at any point, just drop the whole quest, go hail chicka and start it again. The 20 hour lockout doesn't apply until you successfully complete the quest. It will eventually time out and boot you from the zone if you don't solve the puzzle in the allotted time. It is a lot of time btw, I must have been in there an hour before it kicked me the first time.

Ok, on to the **** I had fits with for one reason or another.

On step 3, the caged slave. After he frees himself, and you cast your calm spell on him, he still doesn't ask for the letters. Just give him the book. It punts you on to the next step. I opted not to experiment with skipping the casting of calm all together, why risk it?

On step 5, Krog. How in the F I literally walked past a troll two dozen times, I don't know. Remember where you saw the dwarf, and the erudite at the split with one way walls before you hailed the high elf and told her Serol? So get back to that split with the two one ways, go towards the dwarfs side, continue on and hook a left. This puts you in the room just before Vessel Drozlin for anyone who did the 1.0 rather than the prequest for the 1.5. Krog the troll is in this room just before the one way wall to Vessel. He is on the left side opposite the one way doorway. Tell him the stuffs for his hails. Then he does bolt. Simply turn back to carry on North past the Vessel's room, wrap around the corner to your right, into the room with the pit. Jump down into the pit, take the hallway to the East, follow it around two corners until you come to a room on your right. Krog is in there now. Hail him and blur him as described, he will then punt you to the next spot.

On step 7. Stun the chanter pet as stated, but once ported across, the dwarf will be to your left, not right.

On step 8. Hailing the phantasm works as it's supposed to, however now you can not get to the west wall to port back to the next spot as you are blocked by a one way wall. I ran back the other way to get to whatever reset punt was closest, restunned the pet, reblurred the dwarf, got the punt again, but now I was back before the one way wall, and able to turn to the West and get the punt to the next step.

On step 9. It's the projection to the right, not the center, at least it was for me. Run past it and just keep going that way until you get punted to the water.

Don't waste any time ******* around looking for your insight spell and "replicate" to have them primed. You won't find replicate, it's a shroud ability, and it isn't talking about your insight "spell", you get an insight ability right along with replicate. I wasted time looking for the stupid things, not noticing that the Faerune enduring breath ability from my hat was inactive in this instance. Drowned. had to go back to knowledge, drop the quest, and start the rodeo all over again.

On step 10. Yes you do need to be in Iksar illusion when you hail Lord Korzin and tell him "slave" Otherwise he just get punted back to the last reset and you have to run back and hail him again.

On step 11. Do the hails with Lavok Sref, he does shroud you and punt you into the water. You do need to just suck it up and drown. Then wait. You will see "Lavok Sref roars, 'Awake from your sleep, student of Lumsed! Your torment is not nearly over!' " At this time your "revive" location will change to east cabalis rather than your set bind location. Now take the revive. This puts you in the final room where you will complete this ride on the crazy train.

At this point, go into your alt abilities, in the class section specifically you will find the ability Replicate and Insight. Do make hotkeys for both of them to use for this final stage of the event.

"Cast" Insight, then replicate on each of the 4. I did not experiment with the order of the 4, I followed as described in step 12 through 15. Their dialogue on casting shrouded AA insight will also give a hint as to who to say the magic word to, to release them.

Hergor served as Krog's advisor when the young Troll came upon the city of Grobb many years ago. Hergor was in charge of the guards that keep watch over the various Froglok slaves that are CAGED within the city. Cast replicate and you are now Hergor and you tell Krog "caged".

You are now reset as the Froglok.

Lavok returned to the Swamp of No Hope after freeing a number of captives in Kaladim, only to find his village under attack by troops from Cabalis. He fought valiantly to repel the attackers but was eventually subdued with a number of his surviving kin. He staged an escape attempt and made it to freedom, at the cost of all his fellow slaves' lives. Though he had escaped, he suffered from severe injuries and did not make it far until he lay dying by the side of the road. Gillia came upon the dying Froglok with a band of explorers from the outpost in Firiona Vie. She was so moved by his pitiful state that she CONCEALED him as a wounded Feir`Dal… Cast replicate and you are now Gillia and you tell Sirol "concealed".

You are now reset as the Froglok.

Several years after freeing a number of slaves in Grobb, Lavok made his way to Faydwer where he discovered a number of MINERS shackled to their post. He allied himself with the Crovsar in an effort to free the enslaved miners without being caught. Even though they were not Frogloks, Lavok had enough sympathy for their plight to risk his life to help them. Cast replicate and you are now Crovsar and you tell Asof "miners".

You are now reset as the Froglok.

After Lavok's escape and eventual recovery, he returned to the city as a wild-eyed Ronan, a carefully crafted illusion he had perfected in order to free his brothers. The shock of returning to the sight of his most horrified memories somehow twisted the once vigilant Froglok. He became the very thing he despised, a coldhearted killer... He was cast into the pit after decimating the Froglok slave population. The citizens thought him simply INSANE, as he offered no explanation why he began attacking every Froglok in sight. Cast replicate and you are now Lord Korzin and you tell Lavok "insane".

The entirety of existence seems to shake as your body and mind are reunited. Though, Lavok's psyche seems to be deteriorating... Your reunion may be short lived!
Dark tendrils lash out and drag you back into the mayhem. A disembodied voice laughs, 'Leaving so soon?'
A snide voice barks, 'That's not where you should be!'
The projection of Lumsed approaches the avatar of Lavok and shouts, 'Lavok, can you hear me?'
Lumsed cries out over the ever-loudening crash of the quickly deteriorating room, 'Lavok … Lavok!'
Lumsed opens his mouth to speak but only silence follows. He falls forward and begins to deteriorate as the avatar of Lavok suddenly erupts in a shower of crystalline fragments!
The chaos suddenly ceases as you come face to face with Lavok's mortal remains... It would seem your efforts to save the student come a few years too late...

You are punted one last time, back to the entrance of the zone.

Your task 'An Epic Request' has been updated.
    You gain experience.
You shake your head as you awake outside the city gates. Unsure of what exactly just happened...

Well isn't that the understatement of the century. In the words of Gwen Stefani, "This **** is bananas."

Step 4, you have to cast alliance on her b4 the hail.

7 - he is to the left

8 - The west wall he speaks of is the one where you dropped into this part at, by Vessel Drozlin

9 - for me it was the one on the right

There is no way I would have been able to do with without your writeup. THank yu.

kk i got to step 4. [quote=] 4. Go up until you come to an intersection of hallways. Each of the 3 hallways has a hole trap, ignore the Human female to the left. Turn right, there is a hidden door on the left wall before the trap, use it to bypass the drop. Follow the hallway until you see an iksar phantasm, turn right and go to next hallway. To the right you'll see a Erudite and to the left you'll see a Dwarf. Go left and turn right just before the Dwarf. Follow hallway until you come upon a distraught high elf. Hail and say, "Serol". You will then need to drop down the pit in the West hall and go east.

    5. You'll come upon a room with a wooden door and some crates, with a hallway to the right. There are crates here as well. Once you've entered the room, you will trigger Trooper Kresh, there will be an emote telling you to hide. You can either step into the right hallway and crouch behind the crates, or you can cast Charm on him. If he doesn't see you, he will step through the door and disappear. You can follow him through. If you Charmed him, just go through as well. [/quote]

i illusioned as a high elf and hailed her. she thrwe me back to down stairs. so i went back to her and simply said Serol. she told me to find him and then threw me back downstairs. a mysterious voice keeps saying "not that way". Being stubborn, i found the room with the casks and immediately got thrown back downstairs. ik now i need to go on the internet to find a solution because apparently something else was skipped here.

Once you zone into East Cabilis, you'll get an emote and a Find path will appear. It will lead you to Klok Denip:

    1. Hail Klok Denip and follow his text prompts. Drop down each ladder you come to, until you're at the bottom.

i hail him. he glares at me angrily:"Begone from my housse. I've nothing for ssale and nothing to disscuss with you"

    kk now what

I had to click the door before it triggered Trooper Kresh.

You have to be in illusion: Iksar to talk to him.
