Hail Ernax the Scholar on the first floor of the library in Paineel. He wll ask to leave him be because he his reading about mana storage devices.
Tell him 'I wish to speak to you on a matter of the soul', he answers he hasn't heard anyone say that in a while and is surprised that you want to follow the legacy of azraxs. Ermax gives you a Tattered Book and asks you to follow and write down the instructions on it and then give the book back to him. Give the book back to Ernax and you get a Soul Trap Box, a 4 slot container with a combine button. The book explains how to make a Soul Trap. The needed components are a bloody mantle, the heart of a druid of reknown, and a crystal of capturing. These items need to be combined in a Soul Trap Box (which he gives you.) The book also says that the completed Soul Trap miust be given to the soul you wish to manipulate. The bloody mantle comes from the assassin, which is a level 50 mob that randomly spawns from Faydwer to the Karanas, to Everfrost. The druid of reknown is Alicia Peaceheart in Gfaydark, who drops a heart when killed. The crystal of capturing is made by Jalen Goldsinger the Tox forest. Ernax the Scholar in the Paineel Library asks not to be bothered as he is studying mana storage devices. When asked about a crystal of capturing, he responds that Jalen Goldsinger in the Tox forest can make them. When hailed, Jalen Goldsinger only comments about the murkyness of Tox forest. But when asked about the Heretics or about a Crystal of Capturing, Jalen says that he will make you one if you will bring him some of the components. He requires a Potion of Sorrow and 1000 gold. Jalen Goldsinger says, 'Excuse me while I add some other items to this mix. There. Finished. Here you go, and thank you for your business.' Your faction standing with Gate Callers has been adjusted by 3. Your faction standing with High Guard of Erudin has been adjusted by 1. Your faction standing with High Council of Erudin has been adjusted by 1. Your faction standing with Heretics has been adjusted by -1. You gain experience! The potion of sorrow is obtained from Gorth Bearsoul in Halas. He is the new barbarian in the torc shop who, when hailed, always responds with something about "not bothering a man when he is making potions" or some such. Ask him about the potion of sorrow and you get: "Ach! What ye be needin that fer? Only those of dark magic require such a thing and by my mother, never could i sell to such a soul. If yer soul be clean then put yer (money) in this enchanted pouch and i will know your intent. If yer soul be rotten i'll be known and you'll be dead. Indifferent I better be to your actions." Following up on the money hint gets you: "Suren ye didnae think I'd give ye a potion fer free? I'm needn 500 gold coins to make such an item. Hard to make and few are the uses fer such a potion." Give him 500gp and you get a Potion of Sorrow (magic item, lore, no drop). Combine these items in the box and give the completed soul trap to the Tormented Soul (must have a faction of at least kindly) and you will receive a Mantle of Souls. Completing this quest supposedly will greatly increase your faction with the Lich Miragul. You say, 'Hail, Tormented Soul' Tormented Soul says, 'Whaaat foool does seek counsel with this spirit?' Handing in: Tormented Soul says, 'Ahhh. Sweet release. Wait... What is this? No! Do not bind me to this filthy bit of leather! Release! Curse you and curse Azrax to damnation!' Your faction standing with Heretics could not possibly get any better (I believe this is 15 - all other similar quests are 1 for 1) Your faction standing with Deepwater Knights has been adjusted by -15. Your faction standing with Gate Callers has been adjusted by -15. Your faction standing with Craftkeepers has been adjusted by -15. Your faction standing with Crimson Hands has been adjusted by -15. You gain experience! He depops and a new one takes his place almost immediately. Not sure what the point of that is... Tormented Soul says, 'Was oonncee... aliiive...' Well, I just finished this quest and I'll add what little knowledge I can. I strongly! recommend a group of at least 3 high 40's minimum for the Dark Assassin. Tried it once with myself(Lvl 49) and a mage friend Lvl 52 with only earth pet so dark/fear wasn't gonna work. Many resists and he's fast. Brought in a lvl 43 cleric to heal pets it was no problem. Follow instructions by Tig for finding him. Alicia I got solo on 2nd try at Lvl 49 as well. She wouldn't be too bad with another along of similiar lvl I think. Was blue to me oddly enough. Finally, I DO recommend gettin, of the final leg, a barbarian friend and a wizard with Toxx and N.Karana or W. Karana port. My barbarian warrior friend was kindly considered by Mr. Bearsoul. We immediately ported to toxx and found Jalen Goldsinger(stay grouped I hear for all this) and barb. turned in potion and I turned in gold. Voila, off to tormented sould after combining the 3 items in soultrap. I'm warmly considered by Tormented soul. Done. Did this all in about 2 nights. For the item, i'd say its worth it for eru nec's. for the assassin, go to everfrost and hang out at the South Tower (shout for directions when you get there) The assassin is there many many many times. If he is not, there is a goblin scout or whelp that is his place holder that runs the assassin's same path. Just kill it and the assassin should spawn, might take a kill or two, but I hunt everfrost a lot and the assassin is almost always there.

Yes, a group of us were on our way to Perma when the Assasin was spotted. We pulled over and decided out who was doing what. Oh this guy was interesting. Our druid snared him and we just ran around. I couldn't fear him. He just had resists for me which was a waste of mana. I'm lvl 45 Necro. So we just pulled him around with my pet on him with no taunt on. He clears through the pet no problem. I mainly wanted spells that would for sure would not be resisted. Life Tap spells were suggested and Vamp Curse. Sure enough after pulling him round and round we nabbed him. We spotted him in Everfrost on the South Side, near the little goblin camp once and again at the South Temple area.
One side note. We did this off and on with our walking dots on the Assasin (rest of grp). The druid snared him, then I sent the pet and VC'd him. He aggro'd on me. Then turned after the druid. I sat down and he was after me...I stand up and he stops, turns and aggro's on the druid. I sit, I aggro him.....nice little ping pong action for a bit. He hits hard though for sure!

I sat down and he was after me...I stand up and he stops, turns and aggro's on the druid. I sit, I aggro him.....nice little ping pong action for a bit. He hits hard though for sure!

I found Alania Peaceheart today. She run from loc 1400,1200 to 1500,1050 to 1000,1000 to 700,1300 then back to 1400,1200. She was up when I went searching for her so I have no idea as to her PH. She was an easy kill for me a level 51 necro. She was also not kos to me and gives no faction hits. Good luck. I still need to find the assassin

Last I checked the quest it said she spawned in

now what i want to know is what lvl is she? how much fire power do i need?

I saw her once when I was wandering around Gfay. If you head South West from the Crushbone entrance, past the orc encampment, you will see her running around in a large circle. I saw her and hailed her but didn't get a response so I didn't pay much attention to the exact location but I'll try and find her again and post her location on this board.
