A few years back, my human paladin decided it might be fun to kill halfling guards in Misty Thicket, and because I made so much money at it, I stayed there for a long time, driving nearly all of my Rivervale factions as low as they could go ("could not possibly get any worse"). A couple days ago, I decided it was time to fix the factions.

Let me start by saying that if Joogl (I think that's how it's spelled) "scowls at you, ready to attack", he will hand the bandage back rather than allow you to complete the quest. Subsequent research showed that once he only "glares at you threateningly", he will accept the bandage even though he's still KOS to you, allowing you to complete the quest. Bear in mind that if he aggros on you (he's only around level 10, so as long as you don't sit in front of him, most people will find that he won't attack), you cannot initiate a trade at all.

Since he scowled at me, the first tactic I tried was having an enchanter charm him, which brought him to indifferent with me. Sadly, though he will then accept the bandage and even spout off the quest completion text, he does not grant faction hits. I found that to be rather strange, but it is indeed the case.

The solution that DID work for me was to group with the enchanter, initiate the trade with Joogl, but not press "Give". I then had the enchanter invis me, and after I was invis (thereby raising my faction with Joogl to indifferent), I hit "Give". That completed the quest, giving me the faction hits and leaving me invis. I would then initiate a new trade with Joogl (which would break the invis) and repeat the process. I handed Joogl four unstacked bandages each time (thereby getting four sets of faction hits each time). Because my faction was so bad, it took something in the neighborhood of 800 bandages to get me just to threatening with him (at which point I no longer needed to be invised to complete the quest), and a total of about 2,000 bandages (1,200 more) to get me to max allied. Because my Coalition of Tradefolk Underground standing was already bottomed out from turning in damaged militia helms in North Freeport, I wasn't at all concerned with the negative hits to that faction.

This quest fixed all the factions I'd trashed in Rivervale with the sole exception of Storm Reapers. Storm Reapers includes the druids of Rivervale (and Ella Foodcrafter in Misty Thicket) and sadly, the paladin guildmaster, Kaya, that stands near the cleric guild (and Kithicor zone line) in Rivervale. To fix that faction, I'm now doing the Deathfist Belt quest in Misty Thicket and the RunnyEye Warbeads quest in Rivervale.

Note that this quest will not help the Rivervale cleric faction, so if you've damaged it, you'll need to find a different way to fix it.

I just thought I would mention that another way to do the turn in is to (be invised when you zone into misty) run high up on the wall where Joogle's hut is, and take a halfling illusion potion. Not only did it raise my faction to dubious (as a halfling), but allowed my ogre SK alt to fit into Joogle's hut in the first place!

Keep in mind that you really have to hustle - turning in all those bandages will take you at *least* the 36 minutes it took me before the potion's effect wears off. In fact, I need to go back and turn in some more bandages as I'm still "threatening" as an ogre (I wasted 10 minutes wandering around in misty thicket too), plus I leaned afterward you can put up to 4 bandages in a "give" slot - I was only putting one bandage per slot the whole time.

Once again, live and learn!

Be careful when turning in the bandages. If you're KOS, Blixin Entopop will jump you. He likes to hang around there and has a HUGE aggro radius.
RE: Careful..
# Nov 23 2003 at 9:24 AM Rating: Decent
Actually I just did this Quest with my DE necro. I spent the better part of an hour there and I didn't see Blixin until I headed back to the POK book.

And for those of you that are KOS and can't turn in the bandages, I had a chanter charm Honeybugger and I gave him the bandages. Since she charmed him we both got faction for me turning them in. A win win.

BTW, I turned these in at level 10 and he conned white to me.

Youve got it all wrong, put 1 bandage in each slot,4 factions for 1 in all 4,putting 4 in each slot does the same, all your doing is spending more money
16 at a time doesn't work anymore

4 stacks of 4 only got me 4 faction changes. So only turn in 4 bandages at a time now, just don't stack them in the give window. At least it's easy to grab one at a time off the stack holding CTRL down. Wish they would have made CTRL + ALT + Left Click grab four at a time though. I noticed the same thing doing the red wine quest in Neriak 3rd Gate the other night.

Still KoS with who?
# Apr 08 2002 at 6:39 PM Rating: Default
After doing this quest for an hour or two, my Ogre (agnostic) is on friendly terms with just about everyone in Rivervale. But not everyone. I have been attacked by the pumpkin man over in the farm area. And boy, he sure hurts. I've also been told that there is a human bard who remains KoS. But she didn't seem to mind me. That could be a religon thing, it was a CazicThule Iksar who said she was still KoS. Then there's always that mut dog, but he doesn't really count since he's KoS to everyone.

Does anyone know who else should be avoided?
RE: Still KoS with who?
# Jan 09 2006 at 2:34 AM Rating: Decent
Your faction with the Bards that are all throughout the continent will determine if your KOS to the Bard in Rivervale, independent of your faction with the locals.

You should probably avoid the clerics guild over near the zone to Kith forest, and the druid's guild over near that scarecrow.

#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 27 2002 at 10:05 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You are such an idiot man! It works, but that has nothing to do with the god damn faction problems. It has to do with raising DEEPPOCKETS faction, not RV guard or anything
Easier way to gain Deeppockets faction...
# Feb 25 2002 at 11:35 AM Rating: Default
People people people... If you are not an evil race, (iksar, ogre troll etc.) There is an easier way to gain faction from dubious (deeppockets) to Kindly considerable in a matter of let's say. 1 minute? here's the thing. Go to Lendel Deeppockets at the top of the rogue guild in RV. Click on him and say 'I want the job' over and over, it automatically raises faction just by saying that. Thought it might help if anyone is interested in the Slaythe or anything
RE: Easier way to gain Deeppockets faction...
# Jul 28 2002 at 11:16 AM Rating: Decent
not quite: he's indifferent to me and i get the random not high enough faction message when i say "give me the job". however, once you get your faction high enough with this quest, give me the job should work... although it's purpose is probably lost, unless you just have to be allies with the deeppockets =)

I tried this today with amiable faction and it seems to be bugged. I get a slightly garbled response and no faction hit.

OMG..why hasnt anyone figured this out?
# Feb 19 2002 at 7:21 PM Rating: Default
the faction ups are the same as those you get for killing gbos, etc....4 stacks of 20 for 80 faction hits...this would be a really simple way of getting a squad ring

Where is Joogl Honeybugger?
# Sep 19 2001 at 1:11 PM Rating: Decent
For those of you who do not know where to locate Joogl Honeybugger, he is located in Misty Thicket in the SouthEast section of the zone. If you were coming out of Rivervale, you would make a left coming out of the tunnel from RV and hug the left wall.

Joogl is in one of the Halfling 'hill' huts (say that 10 times fast) with his sister Lil Honeybugger.

You can actually give Joogl 4 stacks of 4 bandages at a time for a total of 16 faction hits per transaction. I have done this myself.

Bandages can usually be purchased from the vendor in the Rivervale Bank.

ok, I'm just off to do this, but do I really need to worry about the FP rogues? so far as I can work out, I do not have to go into or through FP unless I want my headbands, so, If I'm high enough faction to the FP militia to get in/ out of FP, I dont need the rogues? am I missing something here? if so, please tell me

Turns out there are a few FP Rogues in the area of the Monks' guild in FP. Sorry about that.

RE: Iks Monk
# Jul 26 2001 at 4:48 PM Rating: Decent
I believe that the 2 FP rogues near the monks guild are pretty far away and you should have no problem going around them, I also dont think they are a very high lvl.(Janam and rebby). If you are handing in the bandages i suggest you bring 30 stacks MINIMUM. Handed in 27 so far and they still wont sell to me, Also bring alot of orc belts to gain the druid faction. Ella Foodcrafter will soon become you're worst nightmare if not carefull(612dd).

As a rogue, I did this quest about 500 times to raise my faction to warmly throughout Rivervale. Unfortunately, the faction hit (CoalitionofTradeFolkIllegal) includes members of the FP rogue guild, so you can very quickly become KOS to your own guildmembers. Not a huge deal unless you like visiting the guild there, but something to keep in mind...

Thought I'd post this simply because the faction hit (in-game) reads as CoalitionofTradeFolkIll, which I took to mean Coalition of Tradefolk 3. Imagine my surprise when my GM in Freeport decided to 'make an example' of me... :)

Also, it took several hundred bandages to raise a gnome necromancer to the point where she was dubious with the guards in Rivervale. Despite being KoS to guards, she had no problem handing in bandages without being killed...

Faction balancing
# May 23 2002 at 5:46 AM Rating: Default
If you are doing this quest for the faction raises but want to maintain your good faction with the rogues and other illegal areas of FP such as the "...traders Illegal" you need to counter-balance this quest.

I needed good faction in rivervale which posed a problem as a dark elf. so...

First go and do the "note for janam" and "note for rebby" quests in FP (east i think). This is a simple and quick quest which raises faction with the dodgier factions in freeport. (details are on this site)

Only once you have done this quest enough to push your faction up nice and high should you go and do the bandages quest in misty thicket.

.....

I have carried out the two note quests enough to push my faction up to warmly with the shady factions.
Now I am working on putting up my rivervale factions. As the rivervale factions go up the FP illegal factions go down so try and raise rivervale factions by about 2 - 3 levels and then you can always go back and do the 2 FP quests again.

In this way you can end up with both FP illegal factions and rivervale factions high. Just remember to do the freeport ones first or you may take such a faction hit on them whilst doing the bandages that you wont be able to approach the necessary NPCs when it comes time to do the notes quests.

RE: Can IKS Necro do?

Be high enough level that he will not aggro is one way. Also you can try to stay invised the whole time. Remeber to avoid the clerics once you are in RV, esp the one near the entrance to Kithcor that is read to this 51st Shaman.

What level is 'high enough'? I tried this with a 13th level Iskar warrior and got swatted like a bug. I was invisible at the time and clicked on him from outside, through a window.

The best thing to do it get a high level druid to cast Wolf Form on you. The halflings like wolves... heh
