Faction reward is just 4 points upon giving the little cute Kerran the toy.

Nilit's Contraption is a rare spawn ( 1-3% chance?) in the valley before the minotaur caves. Giant robotic spider like the others that spawn there.

    Nilt's Contraption
    # Jul 17 2003 at 8:10 AM Rating: Decent
THe contraption is also part of a quest with the gnome Nilt in steamfont zone. Don't know what the end result is because I was 15 Bard when I ran accross the Contraption. Conned Yellow. was at half hp at the time and decided to kite it to the guards just to be safe. Have a feeling if you turn it's drop item into the Gnome he'll give you a reward of some type. Talking to him may also be a spawn trigger.
Hope I didn't blow it for someone else

Last night while assisting a ranger on the Trueshot bow quest, I ran across Nilit's Clockwork. I was just happy to see something that was worth killing (Yellow CON)! Got the drop and looked it up here. This was after 3 long RL days of play and the only time I've seen Nilit's Clockwork. So if you do indeed have to talk to the Kerra Tseqs to get this thing to spawn, I hope I didn't blow it for some other poor soul on the Zeb server. I will complete the quest tonight and initiate with the Kerra Tseqs again to respawn the thing. I'll test the spawn theory of talking to Kerra Tseqs and port back to see what I find. If it works, least I have something to gain exp from while helping this ranger. I'll update after I try it out.

These are slow days in Steamfont for a level 19 Druid. Everything is too easy or too hard in the zone. Nilit's clockwork on the other hand was pretty easy to solo.

    I killed it 3 times
I wass killing every thing then I seen that it did not die in one hit and It was up. no faction hits. then turned around killed 2 other bobs and it was back up in less then 1 min, the 3rd time I killed it was about 3 hours later, still killing every thing. so it is just a random spawn I think.

Ported to Tox Forest and turned the doll in to get the toy. Asked about the toy before and after, ported back into Steamfont, no dice on Nilit's Clockwork spawning. Don't know what makes it spawn.

This is for all the people posting that they are going to get the Kerran toy and start a monk to twink with it or give it away to somebody. Its NO DROP which means whoever gets the gnomish toy off the clockwork corpse has to complete the quest and cannot give away the end result.

So unless you want the item for yourself you should not kill, loot, and quest this. Of course its a free Norrath and you can do whatever you want, but if your going to end up never using it or destroying it, theres little point.

I was collecting microservos in steamfront for about 2 hours, there were others killing the elementals and everything else around. I went to shoot it and noticed it didnt target as a rouge clockwork, i left it alone, wasnt sure if it would be a faction hit. about 10 minutes later it aggrod on me while i was looting, It conned lt blue to me at lvl 30. its startled me because the only thing in steamfront that had aggro'd me before was the missionary. ( i killed him once, he got me 2 times ). when i he was dead i still had 3 bubs left, looted the toy not knowing what it was, and came here to look it up. i think i'll do the quest, i have been thinking about starting a monk. thanks for all the great posts

ps. i got 14 microservos in that 2 hours.
pss. i finally made my 1st trueshot, fleetching skill at 144, 9 failed attempts

I camped this non stop for 12 hrs with my ranger so i could loot it with my monk. Then my corpse rotted. I went back again when i started my monk again, and the clockwork spawned in 10 mins. It spawns at 11:00 (direction) facing away from ent to mino caves. about where i always see the kibold missionary.

If you listen to what the kerran kid says, it's that a kobold stole it's toy. Has anyone tried finding it on a kobold instead of going going all the way across the world?

your obviously thinking of Miranda in Stonebrunt. You need the Bone Dice the Prince drops in Warrens for that. This quest is on Kerran Isle.
    "Wolf Elemental"????
    # Oct 28 2001 at 4:12 AM Rating: Default
A druid friend (lvl 52) was PLing my new shadowknight tonight when he came acrocc Nilit. He hailed him and got a very strange response... He was in wolf form and Nilit replied with something like "Don't talk to me you silly Wolf Elemental! I don't want to get any Wolf Elemental germs!..." He conned amiably too. A little while later, after a few hours of PLing, my then lvl 8 SK killed the contraption with nearly no difficulty. (Of course, nice 52 druid buffs played a HUGE part in that! ;) ) He dropped the toy right away ad we had no clue what it was about till we just looked it up.

I'm assuming he always drops it and I don't thing there actualy is a real trigger for it.
    Yay for me

I was in Steamfont this morning at about 7am CST, killing clockworks for microservos, the hero for his bracer, and everything else for fun. When what do I see but this little guy? Very easy kill for a 45 paladin, not much tougher than a normal clockwork(Didnt hit me for more than 20hp total) and not a bad rangeslot item. Ac and Agi are always good.

was plvling a friend in SF today and mistakenly pulled Nilits Contraption, thinking it was a clockwork. Well, it bites, and even though it was green to a 31, I sure as hell wasn't ready for it, and it almost got me, hehehe. Funny part was I still got exp, so I'm kinda surprised a lvl 13 can pull this quest off. Anyway, not really impressed with the results, but Ill end up giving the Kerran Toy away anyway. if anyones looking for a freebie, send a tell on VZ =)

    thrown wpns??
    # Jul 23 2001 at 5:03 PM Rating: Default
heres a question it seems throw wearons always disaappear when u throw them ilost aminataur axe this way i couldnt get it back can anyoone tell me why this is and if i am doing something wrong?? and how is this toy useful if it disappearsa and is gone when u throw it the first time?

what good are thrown weapons that dont stack if u just loose them when thier thrown?? magic ornot??
    RE: thrown wpns??
    # Feb 17 2002 at 6:53 PM Rating: Decent
If it has a range listed on it, as in Range: 40, then you can end up throwing it. If it is just listed as going in the range slot, without having a value for the range, then clicking your ranged attack will do nothing. Daggers, hammers and spears frequently have a range, so they can be equiped there, but be careful -- I threw a titan bless tachi away once upon a time.

(with the exception that a bow has a range but doesn't get thrown at your enemy :)

The runed bone fork just had the range value removed from it, which is nice. It now just sits in your range slot like an idol. I hope verant picks this up for more items.

First of all, you are correct. Once you throw a non-stackable item, it's gone for good. So don't do it!

The range slot is used for bows (if your class can use them), stackable thrown weapons, or other items (such as this, Dragoon Dirk, etc.) that carry stat boosts. Just stick the item in the Range Slot, and GET RID OF your Ranged Weapon hotkey.

Hope this helps you. When I was young, I threw my Aulde Ball Peen Hammer.

You used to be able to get him to spawn just by asking Nilit "what contraption?". Someone decided to PL their n00b/alt on it, and Verant promptly "fixed" (nerfed) this "abuse" (tactic). I believe the same phrase will get it to spawn, but not for a half hour or so, and a limited number of times per day.

    big deal?
    # Jun 10 2001 at 4:38 AM Rating: Default
I don't understand what the big deal about this item is?

3 ac, 2 agi/range. Not all that exciting compared to other velious range slot items.

I have killed the contraption and have gotten a gnome tinkered toy, but is it worth tramping all the way out to Kerra Island for?

-Lutinna, Ranger of Tunare. Seeker of Lore.
    RE: big deal?
    # Jun 15 2001 at 1:36 AM Rating: Default
It's a perfect item for monks Lutinna. The weight is only 0.1 and the AC and Agi (2 prime Monk stats) are great for something that doesnt take up any space or weight. The other item for a monk's ranged slot would be a Kelzendian Crystal which drops in Crystal Caverns. This weighs 0.0 and gives +10 HP, but I would rather have the Kerran toy. It's not like we can deal out massive damage with shurikens and throwing knives anyway, and if you still have your heart set on using them to pull you can just pop them into your ranged slot when you pull and drop in the toy when you fight. Well now that I know how, I'm going to go get one for myself ^_^

Was hanging out wacking clockworks for Trueshot quest..waiting for mino cave to open and what comes up on track..Milts Contraption. I didn't even know what it was..but conned blue to my 22 Ranger... Someone posted that it is as tough as Hero...whaaaaat. Took about all of 30 seconds to down it and only lost about 1 bub. Not too tough at all.

I asked a guildmate of mine to hail the Kerran Tesqs and to follow the conversation thread about the toy. Meanwhile, I waited near the mino mines in Steamfont. After having the neccessary conversation, I began looking for Nilit's Contraption or Nilit's Clockwork. Killed several of each type of monster in the area. After 10 minutes or so, went to Nilit himself, Hailed him, asked "What Creation?" then resumed my search.
An hour passed, to no avail. Perhaps the spawn is timed, not triggered?

Recently, I've taken up Tinkering (quite expensive, but very fun!), and I'm always tempted to go harrass Minos and Meldrath. So, I close up my toolbox and head over to the cave for a little cow-man killing. After DMF'ing and buffing the lower lvls experience hunting in the area, I send my 49 pet on a killing spree on anything moving. I've seen Nilit's Contraption 4 times, and killed it 3 times. A 51 Monk got the other (YAY!). I doubt anyone was talking to the kitties all the way in Kerra Isle, or talking to Nilit either. The machine is quite tough, probably as many HP's as a Mino Lord. It takes about as long for my 49 pet to kill, so I doubt many un-grouped, un-twinked players below 20 will succeed. I'm wondering if Meldrath is somehow connected. Every time I've seen the Contraption, it's been AFTER I've killed Meldrath.....
I know he's scarry, but hey, he's also a little *****, so please kill him =oD

1 can a kos rogue sneaking (so with indifferent fqction) get the toy or shall i get the Tseq charmed.
2 which one is the correct Tseq to give the toy?

I believe that the spawning of this and many other nasty critters is all based on a hidden faction, that being the faction of LUCK. Mine is definately low. So far (while murdering several thousand inoccent greenies) I have completed the Hero Bracer quest 4 times and helped a young SK complete it too....No #$%^&@ing Spawn. Hurray for me on my luck with the Mino Hero, BUT - I didn't need HBs I just wanted the Kerran Toy!
I'm positive that your faction standing with LUCK has everything to do with this and many other spawns...

I hope you have better luck than I

    # Feb 26 2001 at 1:16 AM Rating: Decent
Okay, after finding out about the item, I decided to give this quest a try, since I have a 12 monk right now and could get a guild member to help me out on the quest, and she was level 25. We didn't go to Kerra Island, but straight to the mino cave entrance. We talked to Nilit multiple times, killed a lot of rogue contraptions. Ran from the Lord and I got killed by the Hero. Oh yeah, we got away from the Lord because we ran before he saw us. The hero got me 'cuz I got stunned with every hit. So I don't know 'bout the SoW can/can't outrun thing. My guess is that the contraption is a forced spawn, requiring you to talk to the Kerra Tseqs to activate the spawn. Those of you that didn't do that and came across the contraption anyways might've just had good timing. Someone talked to the Kerra Tseqs on the other half of the world and that forced the thing to spawn while you were there. As it is, I am going to go all the way to Kerra Island and talk to the Kerra Tseqs, then get a port back to GFay or something to get the thing as soon as I can. I'll reply to this post if that works.
    RE: Confused
    # Mar 24 2001 at 9:50 AM Rating: Default
I kid you not. After camping this thing for 3 hours with my monk, I read this and tried giving the starting quest mob a try in kerra. Log off my monk and log on my druid and head to kerra, hailed the quest mob and as about what toy. Then log off and log on my monk. What do i see? Nilit's Contraption! Looks like it may very well be triggered or it was just luck. Either way, happy I got the friggin thing. Killing low greenies for 3 hours is a real pain.
