Somewhere in the Ocean of Tears there is an undead island (rough loc of -604.96, -7343.81). The island is populated by a few greater skeletons, a couple gargoyles, and four specters. There you will find stranded a female paladin named Sentry Xyrin. She mentions that she was part of a [boat disaster] and that she is from the temple of Marr in Freeport. She will ask you to get her a [Potion of Marr] from Serna Tasknon is the Temple of Marr in Freeport. With the potion she will be able to regain her strength and take on the undead. (You can also initiate this quest by first speaking to someone in the Temple of Marr, getting the potion, and from that point on learning of Sentry Xyrin's location and going to look for her, which is actually the way most people would discover the quest). You have to get the bottle from the Temple of Marr and then bring the bottle to all the 8 guards in alphabetical order. The guards and the order are as follows:

ANDLIN (Walks around outside wall);
BORIS (Downstairs stationary);
GALLIUS (Outside by front door);
JANEAL (Downstairs stationary);
MEIGHAN (Outside by front door);
THEO (Patrols inside on upper levels);
WARREN (Patrols inside on lower levels);
XYRIN (final sentry in OoT).

It seems that if your faction is not high enough you can't get the bottle. When you give it to the last person (not including Xyrin) he will tell you that she went to the Sisterhood of Erolisi. The sisters will tell you she is either dead or stranded on a nearby island. Then go to the island where she is stranded and give the bottle to her. She will give it back to you to take back to the temple. Don't leave yet. After getting the potion, she will feel invigorated and decide to take on the spectres on the island. If you don't help, they will wipe her out. If you can keep her alive for 10 to 15 minutes, she will leave and will drop the Deepwater Harpoon on her way out.

Despite the image, this can only be used by Paladins.

You say, 'Hail, Sentry Xyrin'

Sentry Xyrin says, 'Shhhh! Keep quiet! Can you not tell this island is inhabited by undead? I wish to take the fight to them, but I am weak from the [boat disaster].'

You say, 'What boat disaster?'

Sentry Xyrin says, 'I was returning to my temple in Freeport in a small boat when the storm hit. I soon found myself shipwrecked on this evil island of undead. The words of Marr tell me to destroy these beings, but I am far too weak. If I only had a sip of the [Potion of Marr].'

You say, 'What is a Potion of Marr?'

Sentry Xyrin says, 'The Potion of Marr was created for the Sentries of Passion. It makes us alert and energetic. It will work only on sentries such as myself. It is distributed by Serna Tasknon of the Temple of Marr in Freeport.'

You have entered West Freeport.

You say, 'Hail, Serna Tasknon'

Serna Tasknon says, 'You are wise. If you are a paladin, either speak with Theron of this temple or visit the Hall of Truth here in North Freeport. Clerics should concentrate on keeping the knights strong and healthy. Would you care to [assist the Temple of Marr]?'

You say, 'I will assist the Temple of Marr'

Serna Tasknon says, 'Good. Take this Potion of Marr to the Sentries of Passion. They are the protectors of this temple. Start in alphabetical order and the first shall take but a sip then you shall take it to the next in order of the alphabet. There are but eight sentries. Sentry Andlin to Sentry Xyrin. Go.'

You say, 'Hail, Sentry Andlin'

Sentry Andlin says, 'Greetings! I would love to converse with you, but as you can see, I am standing my watch.'
Sentry Andlin says, 'My thanks to you. I feel much strength. You may take the bottle to the next sentry.'

I did this quest today and cleared the whole island before handing in the bottle, Sentry Xyrin just sat down and de-spawned in less than a minute and dropped the weapon on the floor. So if you want to get your harpoon quick and easy without worrying that she's going to run off to her death, just kill all the specters! :P

This quest has been fixed. You now actually have to do the quest to get the Harpoon. Thanks to Progression servers they fixed it.

The posted quest is bunk, as many have surely figured out. The appropriate steps for this are as follows (i sat for 5 spawns, and timed them):

The location is a rough 162, -4770.

The Mob's name is "Sentry Xyrin"

She spawns on a 15-16 minute cycle, meaning specifically that every 15 to 16 minutes, a spear is available.

Assuming she is spawned from the start, hail her and talk her conversation out (Hail, Sentry Xyrin)(boat disaster)(Potion of Marr) are the commands to complete the cycle.

after 15 to 16 minutes, she will despawn and the spear will be on the ground, and i can best assume it drops directly between her legs, perhaps the slightest off center.

I wish any luck in obtaining it here on progression server, where it is practically golden. Keep a sharp eye (and mind, if you cannot see) on invisible and stealth folks, remember we do not see as well as we do when everyone wears see invis.

As stated, this was taken on a PROGRESSION SERVER, but i suspect it applies to standard servers, if anyone still cares there.

Not only do some sentries no longer spawn, but Sentry Xyrinn had her named spelled differently. It's now "Xyrin", with one N.

Revamping OOT, Freeport, and Highpass were horrible works of crap, and this quest is a good example of it.

The best part is if you do manage to get the drink to Sentry Xyrinn by GM or if you just happened to have it left in your bank for a decade, she won't do anything. She doesn't attack anything and just sits there now. I even pulled her to the spectre and pulled them to her and faded, but nothing happens. She just stands there, spectres walk back.

NOTE: You can still get the harpoon. Just talk to Styria and ask about Xyrinn, then go to her spot and sit there for about 30 minutes. She'll eventually despawn, harpoon where she sits/stands.

Despawning
# May 16 2004 at 8:01 AM Rating: Decent
Well, now that I am a much bigger warrior than I was 3 years ago when I started the quest, I decided to finish it. I did all the turn ins in Freeport, went to OOT and talked to the Styria Fearnon then swam over to Sentry Xyrin. I did it twice and both times I handed her the potion, she despawned and said :

"I thank you. I cannot do battle at this moment. I am summoned elsewhere. May Marr guide you from this Isle."

I am max ally for years with both the Sisterhood and Priests of Marr.

Go figure.

So I went back again and did it a 3rd time and just gave the potion to her without hailing her or anything, just walked up and gave it to her. Same result.

Went back a 4th time but just hailed her and talked to her but didn't give her the potion. She eventually walked up by the spectres and stood there. None of them touched her but they did aggro on me. Killed each of them twice, then as I was killing the last one she says:

"Many thanks to all who aided in this battle. I offer you this, a weapon I found on a slain Erudite paladin. May Marr watch over his soul and may Marr guide yours. Now I must go."

With that she leaves the harpoon on the ground.

Since I still had the the last dose of the potion, I went back and respawned her (by asking Styria Fearnon 'where is Sentry Xyrin') and let her walk up to the spectres before giving her the potion. She did as she did the previous times I handed it to her. She disappeared with the "summoned away" text.

Update for you: I did this quest as a 49 Wizard, but that should only effect your escape technique (Bored and waiting for AC to spawn). I used only a couple steps as others have noted:

1) Ask Styria Fearnon "Where is Sentry Xyrin"
2) Find Xyrin on the undead island
3) Hail her
4) I didn't even ask about the boat, or anything else - she ran up the hill a few seconds later.
5) I waited...actually I went to another island and killed some goblins, fished, etc.
6) Came back and she had de-spawned, but the Harpoon was right next to a Spectre.
7) Use any means available to grab it and go. I simply pulled the spectre away, rooted, got Harpoon, and gated out.

This is a very easy task if you have a character that can root and some patients.

Stack of bodies on Stromm
# Jan 22 2004 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
I left a pile of bodies trying to get close enough to pick this up with my lvl 10 HE Paladin Lumendar.(Don't laugh, my first character). Only got the cursor on it one time. Maybe either the specters have a special grudge against HE or their aggro range has been increased. Might try it with a different race or wait for invis undead. Getting the buff before the quest has drawbacks-the pirates seem to love to back stab you!
Hmmm
# Oct 01 2002 at 4:46 PM Rating: Decent
Hmmm, i was in Erudin doing the newbie quest for Barnacle BP and the leader of the pally guild (Deepwater Knights) said something about the Deepwater Harpoon, and something about a Bridge connecting Kunark and Odus and he said this had to be stopped and told me to go to NK and kill 2 people to get 2 different notes so i can turn then in to him to get the Deepwater Harpoon.

Is this right? can there be two ways to do this guest?

Harpoon is not No-Drop, but you will need Invis to Undead, not just regular Invis.
EASILY doable at level 1
# May 28 2002 at 9:53 AM Rating: Default
It is extremely easy to get the harpoon with a level 1 character.

Summarized from the posts below:

* Head to East Freeport and bind at the Soulbinder.

* Hop the boat and get off at Sister Isle.

* Head to the hut on the far right and ask the sister there "Where is Sentry Xyrinn".

* Swim south from sister isle across to the isle where the Oracle is then swim west to the spectre isle. Sentry Xyrinn is by the water near the North edge of the island.

* Tell Xyrinn, "What boat disaster" and "What potion of Marr". Then wait. After a few moments she will head up the hill and stand near the spectres. Keep her targetted and fish or something. After a few minutes, she will despawn (thus disappearing from your target window) and leave the harpoon at the base of the spectres.

* Ease up the hill watching for gargoyles. They are your biggest and only concern.

* Once you bypass them and get near the spectres, ease forward toward the harpoon (looks like a pole on the ground and will likely be facing towards you) while left clicking it. You will be able to grab it without the spectres aggro'ing.

* That's it! If you are below level 10, once it's on your mouse cursor... run on up to the specs for a quick ride back to the Soulbinder with Harpoon in hand.

NOTES:

1) You do not have to give Xyrinn or anyone else any items to get the harpoon.

2) The only limiting factor to this is making sure you have the proper faction to speak with the sister on sister isle and Xyrinn.

3) Damage output with a level 10 DWF PAL with 108 STR has maxed at 29 points. Damage output with a level 7 HUM PAL with 85 STR is maxed at 21 point thus far. Not too shabby for an item you can get at level 1!

Regards.

When I stumbled upon this quest, I thought it was great for my lv 2 Paladin. Search through the Temple of Marr, find the 8 guards, alphbetize them and give them the wine. (You get a little xp with each delivery) Well, I never could find the last one, Sentry Xyrinn. Warren, the next-to-last one tells you she went somewhere, but how was I to know how far away that was or that it was impossible for my low level character to do. I guess someday maybe I'll finish this quest. I wish there were more easy quests for us low level characters.

Ok, I've finally gotten around to doing this quest. In doing it I tried several different things and made a couple mistakes so I have some new and some summarized information.

First off, getting the potion from the Temple of Marr is way easy. My 10 year old did that part for me.

Once you get out to OOT there are a couple things you have to remember.

Talk to the head of the Sisters of Erollisi. Standing on the dock facing away from the water she is in the hut on the right. Ask her "where is Sentry Xyrinn?" and that will trigger Xyrinn's spawn. If nobody is up in the right hand hut you can trigger her by talking to another sister - if you turn around and face the water you may see a sister to the left of the dock along the water, talking to her will respawn the main sister. Evil people like to kill the sisters because they are good exp and drop alot of purity belts so they often are not up, but are easily triggered.

Xyrinn is on the undead island along the shore. I tried both ways of giving her the potion and not giving her the potion but just talking to her, and it is true that if you give her the potion she will give you back an empty potion bottle and immediately despawn.
If you just talk to her and follow her script she will stand for a few minutes then walk up the hill to the pillar surrounded by specters. Now I did this part twice because I messed up and accidentally attacked Xyrinn instead of the specter so I know that sometimes she will attack the specters and sometimes she will just stand there. The specters do not agro on her unless she attacks them. If she attacks, only one specter will agro and you shouldnt have much trouble keeping her alive. After a few minutes of attacking or just standing there and casting yaulp on herself she drops the harpoon on the ground and poofs.

The really interesting part is that. I tried giving her the potion first, and she poofed. I swam back to the sisters and respawned her immediately. Swam back to Xyrinn and talked to her and she waited then attacked - this attempt failed due to my mistaken attack (I had to kill her myself). Finally I respawned her again, I had no potion on me at all or even empty potion bottle and still was able to complete the quest and get the harpoon. What I think this amounts to is that the potion is not necessary at all.

I hear this is not the way to do the quest.Basically go to temple of marr ask the chick "where is (the gaurds name)" then go to sister island and ask that to the lady in th huts from there go to undead isle and target da gaurd. She will get up and go near specters basically once she leaves your targeting go up there and get the Harpoon

It should be noted that this quest gives 7 hits of positive faction with both the priests of marr, and the knights of truth, before you ever leave the temple of marr. If you want to raise these factions, you can just destory the remaining potion, and restart the quest. Basically, if you do this, you're just providing drinks for faction (and small exp). However, your freeport militia faction goes down as well. You can use the notes for rebby/janam quests to boost that back up. I did these, along with some orc and gnoll scalps in Highhold, plus killing some piranha and bagging/ turning in at temple, and am now Warmly with pallys and priests (as well as merchants and merchants Ill, from note quests) and still am indifferent to the militia. BTW I am a Cleric of Marr and had to worry about faction because I turned DF belts in to the wrong guy (militia capt) as a newbie. Started with indifferent to my own priests, amiable to pallys, and dubious to Militia (from turning more belts in to Cain Darkmoore at the warrior guild). Nice thing is the combo I mention here helps lots of factions. I conned warmly to the thieves in HighHold, even after I killed Dyllin Starshine.
quest can go on more...

after you give the last sentry the potion on spec island you can go back to the person who gave you the potion in the first place and hand it back to her and she gives you some gold and a low level paladin spell (i got cure poisen). I was hailing random people in the temple of marr and got this quest at level 6 :). I was searching for the sentry on the island of Sisterhood of Erolissi and got waisted by pirates, then some people helped me...to bad i didnt know about the harpoon at the time...oh well
the key is invis to undead...

i've done this over 20 times... talk to the chick on the island to make the sentry spawn. swim out to garg island, and hail the sentry. ask her about the words in [ ]... "what boat disaster?" and "what is a potion of marr?". DO NOT GIVE HER A POTION- if you do, she will try to fight specs, and you'll have to kill them to keep her alive. wait a few minutes, and she'll run away, up to the specs. after 12 minutes or so, she'll disappear. i usually keep her targeted and sit and play gems, heehee, when she's not targeted anymore, she's gone... then, simply invis vs. undead, run up to where she was standing, and the DW harpoon will be on the ground- looks like a big stick laying between a few specs. i know a few people who have done this with out invising, and have pulled it off... seems specs have a small aggro range, and the harpoon is dropped on the outer limits of it. i always invis to UD first, just to be safe- make sure no gargs hit you on the way up to specs, cuz then invis goes away... good luck!

There are no faction hits to do it this way, because you don't kill anything. I did this the other day, and didn't even go to the temple first. Talked to Styria to spawn Xyrin, then went to spec island, spoke to Xyrin, she walked to the tree in the middle of the island, I invised to undead and followed. After several minutes of just standing there, she despawned, leaving the harpoon on the ground.

I don't know how someone managed without invis to undead, because she dropped it right at the foot of a spec, which made retrieving it rather nerve wracking, even invised. I must have spent too many of my lower levels in Oasis of Marr.

I received no faction for talking to Styria or Xyrin. Hope this helps.

If you do it this way, do you lose faction with Militia? I am dubious in every place except north FP (where I am kindly considered).

Do the note for janam, note for rebby quests. Or go to high hold pass, and kill orcs and gnolls, and turn scalps in. I am Kindly to Pallys and Priests, and Amiable to Militia. Also ally to Merchants and thieves. I recommend the Highhold pass method, as you also get exp and loot this way.

i am in the middle of the Quest for the Deepwater Harpoon, but my quest started in Erudin, with the Deepwater Knights - i have to get the heads of 3 architects and bring them to the Deepwater Guild leader to get the harpoon

Quest for Deep Six Cutlass. A nice quest that should be upgraded in my opinion. I think it would be nice to get a substantial reward for taking all of these faciton hits . . . and for taking down the opponents period.

Yes, it is a mistake that when the DW knight guidie is hailed he will talk to you about the DW harpoon. IT IS A TYPOE.

umm...that's not the DW Harpoon...I can't remember the name of the sword (and it's nice sword or maybe piercer) but can have a really bad faction hit (from killing the 3 architects). It's also a MUCH harder quest than the DWHarpoon
Really Level 40 Requirement?
# Apr 06 2001 at 3:35 PM Rating: Default
Do you really have to be level 40 for this quest? If not,
what level can it be accomplished?

How much help does she need to survive? Is laying on
of hands enough, or do you need to help fight the spectres?

If you lay hands or heal her, will the spectres attack you?

Thanks,
