|Quest Started By:||Description:|
|This is the first of two tasks that lead to the reward, "Refurbished Puppet" (which is thought to be a final reward, but this is not confirmed).
Note: While there are no requirements for receiving this task, you will still need a few completions that, while not directly related to the two puppet tasks, will be necessary to have done before being able to finish this. You will need to:
- have completed "A Chilling Rescue" (first partisan in The Breeding Grounds)
- have completed "An Abundance of Orcs" (first partisan in the Crystal Caverns)
- have completed "Infiltrating the Burning Dead" (first partisan in Chapterhouse)
- be able to request (or know someone who can) "Traitors Among Us" (first Kael Drakkel mission)
- have access to Morell's Castle
"Soggy Halfling Puppet" can be fished in the Crystal Caverns: Fragment of Fear (minimum fishing skill required is unknown). It is known to be obtainable by the broken bridge near -345, 755, -535 (close to Bronigan, who is findable with CTRL+F).
If you have this in your inventory and your group at your side, you can right-click the puppet to assign everyone in the group the task (note: while everyone gets the task, it is not shared; everyone has their own individual task). Upon assignment, the Soggy puppet appears in everyone's inventory.
You have been assigned the task 'The Long Lost Puppet'.
Return the puppet to its original owner 0/1 (ALL)
Item Information on the puppet: Engraved in the wood is a message, To Gilda, With love. -G
In Evantil is a gnome named Galdamil. He's found at -665, -200, 4. This is at the base of the tree, just east of the ramp that leads upwards from the ground level.
Note in his task: "A gnome named Galdamil has traveled to Evantil to obtain some wood to make a puppet. He requires your assistance to help gather the materials needed to construct the puppet."
Give him the puppet.
Galdamil takes the soggy puppet from your hands and kisses it with tears in his eyes, 'Oh where did you find her? My sweet [Gilda]! I thought I had lost you forever. I will not rest until you are restored to your original beauty!'
Speak to Galdamil to find out more about the puppet 0/1 (Evantil, the Vile Oak)
You say, 'Who is Gilda?'
Galdamil clutches the puppet close to his chest as he recounts a painful history, 'I met Gilda many years ago while [performing] outside of Rivervale. In a crowded camp of halfling spectators, I was immediately drawn to her captivating smile. Gilda's eyes lit up every time I danced my puppets across the stage. I lived to see the joy on her face! Not wanting to forget Gilda's enchanting beauty, I began making a new puppet in her image. I spent many nights whittling away, thinking only of that sweet halfling's smile.'
You say, 'Performing?'
Galdamil says 'During my final show, I worked up the courage to speak with Gilda. As the puppets finished their final act, I scanned the audience for her familiar smile, without luck. I began to pack my belongings with a heavy heart, when suddenly she appeared. Gilda asked in a voice filled with wonder if she could see my puppets. With a slight blush, I obliged. Her face lit up as she handled each puppet with care. I stood in blissful silence, cherishing these few moments alone with her when suddenly Gilda's smile stiffened. Broken from my momentary trance, I looked down and saw her clutching the [puppet] I made in her image.'
You say, 'What about the puppet?'
Galdamil says 'I stood there, stunned. In those few seconds of silence, I tried to think of a sane explanation. Before I could speak, Gilda clutched the puppet close to her chest and beamed a smile in my direction. She loved the puppet; she loved me! I couldn't contain my joy! Gilda's heartwarming grin was enough to push me over the edge of sanity, and I immediately asked her to join my troupe. Much to my surprise, she agreed, and we began our tour of Norrath together, putting on the best puppet [shows] anyone had ever seen!'
You say, 'What shows?'
Galdamil says 'We toured many far off lands, staging shows in places like the Loping Planes and Sunrise Hills. After every performance, Gilda would carefully pack the puppets away, giving each of them a tender kiss. Her love for me extended to my creations. I truly felt [complete] with her in my life...'
You say, 'Complete?'
Galdamil's grip on the puppet tightens as he fights back tears, 'One night, after a particularly grueling show, I decided to lend Gilda a hand with packing up the puppets. As I approached her tent, I heard an unfamiliar voice from within. Without hesitation, I dashed in to find my love had [vanished], along with all of our puppets.'
You say, 'Vanished?'
Galdamil says 'My head was swirling with mixed emotions. Did Gilda abandon me? Was she abducted? I spent countless nights going over the details of our last show together, hoping to uncover clues that would lead me to her whereabouts. Eventually I succumbed to my despair, and no longer had any desire to perform. I had just about given up [hope] until you brought me this puppet.'
You say, 'You gave up hope?'
Galdamil says 'I'm not too proud to admit that there were times I was convinced Gilda had left me, but you bringing me this puppet has caused me to [reconsider]. Maybe she really was abducted? Even if Gilda had fallen out of love with me, there's no way she would have discarded the puppet I created for her.'
You say, 'Reconsider?'
Galdamil pulls a handkerchief from his pocket and dries his eyes, 'Luck smiled on us both when you fished up this puppet. Maybe luck will be yours again. I know it's a lot to ask, but would you be willing to visit some of our favorite places to perform and look for any [clue] that might lead to Gilda's whereabouts? I couldn't bear revisiting those places, but I must know the fate of my sweet halfling!'
You say, 'I'll look for a clue'
Galdamil stuffs his handkerchief away, giving you his full attention. 'Gilda and I had some of our most memorable shows in Loping Plains. Performing with the constant threat of danger was exhilarating! Though East Freeport was quite a treat as well. Who knew the militia had such a passion for puppet shows? And of course, how could I forget about our performances in Sunrise Hills... so peaceful.' The halfling puppeteer smiles fondly at the memories.
This opens up the next three steps.
Recover a clue from the theater in Loping Plains 0/1 (Loping Plains)
Head to the Loping Plains and to the haunted theater, near the minotaur mines (north-central part of the zone, south of the druid ring). In front of the stage where Wirlem spawns is a wrecked cart. Two untargetable feigned death miniature puppet NPCs can be found here along with a ground spawn (looks like a scroll): "Playbill".
The Playbill reads:
"~The Halfling's Heavy Heart~
A love story told through puppetry!
Featuring the talents of Puppet Master Peppo
and his partner Gilda.
A P & G Production
Picking up the ground spawn updates this step.
Recover a clue from the theater in East Freeport 0/1 (East Freeport)
In East Freeport's Bard guild is an NPC named Bouncer Claude.
You say, 'Hail, Bouncer Claude'
Bouncer Claude dismisses your greeting with a roll of the eyes. 'If you're looking for a ticket to Gilda and Peppo's latest production, you're a day late and a dollar short, sweetie. That show's been sold out for weeks!'
Bouncer Claude won't be of much use to you, but you can find a ground spawn called "Note to Gilda" in the backstage area of the theater where Felisity Starbright is. It's on the top of the shelf/coat rack on the right (appears as a scroll). Pick this up for the update.
The note reads:
My Dearest Gilda,
Oh how I adore thee! You make my splintered limbs come to life!
I count the seconds until I can see you again.
Sending all my love, -P
Recover a clue from the theater in Sunrise Hills 0/1 (Sunrise Hills)
Head to the Sunrise Hills and speak with Edwin Tilmoss. He's found behind the vendor building at the zone-in.
You say, 'Hail, Edwin Tilmoss'
Edwin Tilmoss says 'Did you see Tayna and Brent's opening [act]?'
You say, 'What act?'
Edwin Tilmoss says 'Why, the puppet show of course! Peppo and Gilda put on quite the production. I've already purchased my ticket to their next show in Freeport. It sold out in minutes!'
Saying "act" updates this step.
Deliver the Playbill to Galdamil 0/1 (Evantil, the Vile Oak)
Deliver the Note to Galdamil 0/1 (Evantil, the Vile Oak)
Speak to Galdamil 0/1 (Evantil, the Vile Oak)
You say, 'Hail, Galdamil'
Galdamil's face reddens as he puts the clues together in his head, 'It can't be true! Gilda would never perform without me. Our shows were sacred! My sweet muse must be under the influence of a sinister puppet master.' The heartbroken gnome tears the playbill and note in two. 'I feel sick even thinking about someone else pulling her strings! I beg you, _____, [find] my dear Gilda and return her to me!'
You say, 'I will find her'
Galdamil is filled with renewed hope as his plan comes together, 'You will first need to obtain entry to the puppet show.' He nods with silent confirmation, 'The elf you spoke to in Sunrise Hills. He has a ticket! I'm sure he'll part with it for a [price]. Once you've gained entry you can rescue Gilda from her captor!'
You say, 'A price?'
Galdamil's jaw drops, clearly appalled, 'Can one put a price on the life of my lovely Gilda?! Just go! Save her! Whatever costs you endure, I'll see to it you are paid back in full. I need to wait here in case Gilda escapes. Surely she'll return to me, seeking the comfort of my embrace.' The puppeteer closes his eyes while wrapping his arms around himself with a content smile.
This updates the step.
Gain admission to the Freeport Puppet Show 0/1 (ALL)
Go back to Sunrise Hills and talk to Edwin Tilmoss, who will assign you the task "A Ticket to the Show". Complete the sub-task to update this step. (You also receive a "Puppet Show Ticket" in doing so.)
Confront Peppo and Gilda at the Puppet Show 0/1 (Theater)
Return to Bouncer Claude in the Bard's Guild in East Freeport. Speak with him and you will be assigned the group task "The Halfling's Heavy Heart". Complete the sub-task to update this step.
Return to Galdamil and tell him the truth of Gilda and Peppo 0/1 (Evantil, the Vile Oak)
You say, 'Hail, Galdamil'
Galdamil's face turns bright red as you recount the events that took place at the show. Standing in silent contemplation, his grip tighens around the neck of the halfling puppet he once held so dearly. In a sudden fit of rage, Galdamil tears the puppet limb from limb and tosses the parts at your feet. 'Gilda is dead to me, dead!' Consumed by quiet sobs, the gnome turns his hollow gaze toward the ground.
After having his heart broken by news of Gilda's betrayal, Galdamil broke the puppet he created in her image.
