Rain of Fear Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This is a solo task that begins with Gummil Shortbottom (map) at /location -345, 930, -91 in the Chapterhouse of the Fallen. You must have the "Burning Dead Robes" illusion on before you can talk to him (if you need one, say "infiltrate" to Sir Birton (map) at location 65, 545, 0 (on the main floor are two large rooms -- he is in the northwest part of the west room)). Note that all drops and ground spawns are temporary, so this must be done in one sitting.

To get to Gummil Shortbottom, go from the main floor down to the second level (Burning Dead area) and go to the end of hall that extends southwest from the main room on the second floor.

You say, 'Hail, Gummil Shortbottom'

Gummil Shortbottom says 'What? Who are you? Just what I need... Another mouth to feed. Well since you're here, you might as well make yourself [useful] and help out around here.'

You say, 'Useful?'

Gummil Shortbottom says 'I doubt I could send you on any important tasks. You don't look as though you could do much more than wet yourself without supervision or assistance. Perhaps you could investigate the [crying] in the southeast wing?'

You say, 'Crying?'

Gummil Shortbottom says 'Wailing would be more accurate. Seems there is something or someone wailing up a heck of a racket at night. I don't care much, but 'people' are starting to complain, and I might as well deal with it now before it becomes something serious. Are you [interested] or not?'

You say, 'I'm interested'

Gummil Shortbottom says 'Very well then. Go investigate all the clamor in the southeast halls and see if you can find out what all the commotion is about? Report back to me when you're finished.'

You have been assigned the task 'Woes of Wailing Wanda'.

Gummil has been receiving complaints about some intense crying in the southeast halls. He would like you to investigate and see if you can resolve the problem.

Wanda's Pristine Skull is the name of "Wanda's head"! It's confusing not to list its proper name here. The quest dialog also refers to it as just "Wanda's head", adding to the confusion. I suggest you make note of this in the walkthru text to assist us confuseds!. Thanks!

Would be nice to know just where that area is. Been roaming the zone for hours trying to find "the second floor". I'm sure I'm missing something, but it's annoying to waste hours trying to find a specific area.

K....figured this out. It's the floor below the floor you enter. The heads are random, and not that difficult to come by, in my experience. The "second floor" had me baffled (which isn't always that hard to do.)

so I spent several hours on this. Did this 3 times because the torch was never useable on the corpse. This part of the quest is incredibly bugged. It turns out there is 2 corpses:

You will notice when you use "tab" to cycle through your nearest NPCs that when you target the corpse then a split second after, the highlighted and the lightblue name will swap. If you click the torch after this swap happens, then nothing happens.

You have to right-click the torch before this swap happens. So be really, really fast and spam tab + torch-click.

I tried what was suggested here but it did not work no matter how fast I spammed tab/right-click on torch. What did work was targeting the corpse with /tar rather than clicking on it. Worked for both my toons.

just wanted to let others know you can turn the bones into the corpse - no need to wait for wailing wanda herself.

just so others will know, when Wanda spawns, she poofs the surrounding undead NPC's, so there is no need to clear Wanda's room.

Personally (being a boxer) I went after the rare drop pieces (head and torch) first. Worked my way to the second floor outer ring and went along it (pulling the inside ring at each room) one sweep around was enough to collect 3 heads (and spawn 2 named , heh) the torches are very common.

During the final turn in, I did each toon separately. Each turn in spawned a corpse.

After burning Wanda's corpse with the torch a new attackable Biddlix Bonecracker spawns. My mercs had him halfway dead before I even got slow to land, easy peasy.

Anyways, info to help the fellow boxers out there =D

Just a little note that your mileage may vary with the Necropyric Torch. For this poster I guess they were very common. I killed over 60 necromancer type mobs in the Burning Dead area before I got one to drop.

This quest has to be done in one sitting, since all the drops and ground spawns are temporary. That and the low drop rate of the head (at least) means I wouldn't recommend several people in a group doing this all at once. If you don't finish in one sitting, all your killing for loots and going for ground spawns is wasted; that's especially difficult if you have a hard time moving around the zone.
