Summary

- Engage Marnek (no trigger or dialogue; he is aggro).

- The phases...
--- 100%-80%: human
--- 80%-70%: skeleton
--- 70%-50%: human
--- 50%-40%: skeleton
--- 40%-20%: human
--- 20%-10%: skeleton
--- 10%-0%: human

- Adds...
--- "a wraith" every 4% (first appears at 96%; last appears at 0%).
------ Vulnerable only to players in shroud form.
--- "a skeleton" each time a player shrouds themselves.
------ Immune to stuns; randomly mezzable.
--- "Corpse Collector" each time a player dies.
--- "Animated Corpse" each time a Corpse Collector makes it to the water with a player corpse.
------ You'll want to be very fast in rezzing player corpses so to avoid Animated Corpse adds.
--- "a living sacrifice" non-aggro.
------ These must be kept healed (they can be buffed as well) during Marnek's undead phases, as he will lifetap them. If a sacrifice dies, Marnek gains an additional ability used in his live form.

- Shrouds...
--- At the north end of the room is a black pool (appearance is that of a guild hall pool). This is the dead pool. A player who steps into this pool is buffed and put into a shroud that lasts about two minutes.
--- While a player is in shroud form, they can't damage (or even be near) Marnek while he's in his human form.
--- They can damage Marnek while he is in undead form (through melee and via a bane ability that comes with the shroud).
--- Shrouded players will also be responsible for DPS'ing and killing the wraiths as they spawn.
------ The "Wraith Lure" ability that comes with the shroud is used to pull wraiths to the player's location.
--- If the shroud buff wears off the player naturally, the player is death touched. To avoid the DT and remove the buff before that happens, use the blue pool in the south end of the room to remove the shroud.
------ When you remove the shroud via the blue pool, a short term buff is applied that prevents you from re-shrouding too fast.
--- It is recommended 4-5 players be dedicated to shrouding for the entire event, with an additional 4-6 players shrouding during Marnek's undead phase.

- While Marnek is in human form...
--- He casts "Necrotic Roots" on random targets (roots in place + DOT).
--- He casts "Scorching Bones" on random targets (large DOT, cureable by stepping into the water at either end of the room).
--- He casts "Daze", a 50' range AE nuke + stun.
--- He AE rampages.
--- He has an aura around him that damages any shrouded player in his range.

- In skeleton form...
--- Marnek tends to be permanently rooted while in skeleton form, although he is known to sometimes come loose (what causes this, is unknown).
--- He has an aura around him that damages any un-shrouded player in his range.
--- He lifetaps the three "a living sacrifice" in the center of the room. The longer he spends in his undead form, the larger the lifetaps get, eventually growing to a point where he can instantly kill a sacrifice even if it's at 100% health.
--- If he kills a living sacrifice, he gains an additional ability to use in his live form (silence; blindness; etc.).

- Kill Marnek and all adds to win the event.

Bloodreaper Narek

While not particularly helpful, Bloodreaver Narek offers some minor hints about what to do here:

You say, 'Bloodreaver Narek'

Bloodreaver Narek says 'Marnek's chambers can be found through the tunnel straight ahead. I will stay here and channel the strength of Innoruuk so that the dark pool can provide passage to the realm of the dead. Remember, contact with living creatures while in the in the other realm will cause you harm; Remaining in the dead realm for too long will cause certain death.'

Marnek Jaull: Live and Dead

As noted by the quest NPCs, Marnek Jaull can shift in and out of live/dead forms (human/skeleton appearance). He makes these transformations at health intervals:

80%: skeleton form
70%: human form
50%: skeleton form
40%: human form
20%: skeleton form
10%: human form

The Shrouds

In order to keep up with the mechanics of this event, you'll probably want at least 4-5 players dedicated to shrouding for the entire event's duration. You'll also want additional players to help out during Marnek's dead phase.

To shroud, a player needs to go into the water in the north end of the room (NOTE: This isn't the actual water; it's a "pool", similar to a placeable guild hall pool just below the ramp).

When a player enters the north pool, two things happen: The player is put in a shroud and an add called "a skeleton" spawns on the raid. The skeleton hits for max ~25,000 and should be killed. Skeletons are randomly mezzable; and cannot be kited (if kited, will proc a death touch on the kiter).

Any players who are shrouded can use the shroud's bane ability to DPS Marnek while he in his dead/skeleton form. The catch is that if you stay in the shroud form too long, you will be death touched. The time limit is about two minutes (you'll be able to see the counter as the shroud comes with a buff that ticks down). To remove the shroud, go into the water pool at the south end of the room.

Note: When a shrouded player removes a shroud from themselves, they get a short-term debuff called "Resurrection Sickness" on them that prevents them from re-shrouding. This only lasts a few ticks, however.

You can re-apply the shroud form any time by going into the north water (keep in mind that each time you do so, a skeleton spawns on the raid) and take it off any time by going into the south water. Just make sure you're not in it too long. Note that you cannot refresh the buff. You have to take it off and re-apply it rather than overwriting your existing buff.

Also note that if you approach Marnek while he is in his human form, while you are shrouded, you will take extra damage.

Marnek Jaull: Live Form

There is no dialogue trigger for this event. Marnek Jaull has a standard aggro range; engage him when your raid is ready.

Marnek Jaull hits for a max ~42,000 and AE rampages (full damage). Throughout the event (in his human/live form), he casts "Necrotic Roots" and "Scorching Bones" on random targets:

Necrotic Roots: Single Target, (-980) (3 ticks)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 24000
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 36000 per tick
3: Decrease Movement by 10000%
4: Increase Curse Counter by 60

Scorching Bones: Single Target, Fire (-980) (10 ticks)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 42000 per tick

To cure "Scorching Bones", the inflicted player needs to run to one of the two pools of water in the caves at either end of the room (north and south). Due to the mechanics of the shroud portion of the event, it is recommended players only use the south pool for cures. Upon curing, you see an emote in blue:

The flames have been quenched.

Marnek Jaull also AEs "Daze":

Daze: PB AE 50', Magic (-1000)
1: Stun (2.50 sec)
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 43000

He is also known to cast "Marnek's Wrath", but why or how he picks targets is not known:

Marnek's Wrath: Single Target, Magic (-1000)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 72000

In his live form, Marnek has a small-ranged aura around him. This aura does a large amount of damage (per tick) to any shrouded players who get near him, so shrouds should setup a distance away from Marnek's live tank spot.

Note: If at any time, Marnek's target is not within his melee range, he has a chance to death touch his target.

Marnek Jaull: Dead Form

You'll see this emote when Marnek turns "dead" (at 80%, 50%, and 20%):

Marnek enters the realm of the dead, growing in power while shielding himself against attacks from the living.

Marnek warps to the southeast part of the room and transforms into a skeleton. At this time, he is permanently rooted in place and develops a small-ranged aura around him. This aura does 40,000hp damage per tick to any unshrouded players in it:

Your health diminishes while you remain in close contact with the dead.

In his skeleton form, he can only be damaged by players in shroud form using the "Marnek Bane" ability or melee attacks using the weapons equipped via the shroud. (He should also be tanked by a shrouded player. Since shrouds come with over 1 million hitpoints, this shouldn't be overly difficult.)

Around the rock in the middle of the room are 3x "a living sacrifice". These mobs must be kept healed by player spells. While Marnek is in this form, he siphons health from them:

Marnek siphons health from a living sacrifice.

If he manages to kill one, you will see this emote:

Marnek draws new powers from the death of a living sacrifice.

With one sacrifice dead, Marnek gains the ability "Dead Silence" (cast on random targets):

Dead Silence: Targeted AE 15', Unresistable (-980) (1 tick)
1: Silence
2: Amnesia (Silence vs Melee Effect)
3: Decrease Attack Speed by 99%

With two sacrifices dead, Marnek gains the ability "Veil of Darkness":

Veil of Darkness: PB AE 1000', Unresistable (-980) (1 tick)
1: Blindness (1)
2: Decrease Mana by 8500 per tick
3: Decrease Endurance by 6500 per tick
4: Slow Push (150)
5: Decrease Hitpoints by 29000 per tick

With three sacrifices dead, Marnek gains a single-random-target death touch:

Sacrifice: Single Target, Unresistable (-980)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 2000000

These new abilities get cast through both his forms, so you will want to keep the living sacrifice NPCs alive (unless you're going for the achievement in which you allow each of them to die).

Each "dead" phase lasts for 10% of Marnek's health. You'll see this emote when Marnek turns "live" again (at 70%, 40%, and 10%), at which points he transforms back into a human and becomes unrooted:

Marnek returns to the realm of the living, shielding himself from attacks from the dead.

Corpse Collectors & Animated Corpses

Throughout the entire event (whether Marnek is in his live form or dead form), any player who dies will trigger the spawn of "Corpse Collector":

A Corpse Collector begins to drag _____'s corpse.

This NPC begins dragging the corpse to one of the two pools in the event area. If it manages to bring the corpse to the water, an add called "Animated Corpse" spawns near Marnek's spawn point and auto-aggro's the raid.

Corpse Collectors are attackable, but have far too many hitpoints to bother killing, so you'll want to make sure dead players get resurrected as soon as possible.

Animated Corpses hit for a max ~28,000; have a lot of hitpoints (about 11 million hitpoints worth); and AE "Bone Bash":

Bone Bash: PB AE 25', Magic (-980)
1: Knockback (5) and Toss Up (2)
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 49000

You will want to avoid these spawns.

The Wraiths

Adds called "a wraith" are encountered throughout the event at health intervals. One wraith appears at 96% and every 4% thereafter (92%, 88%, 84%, 80%, 76%, 72%, 68%, 64%, 60%, 56%, 52%, 48%, 44%, 40%, 36%, 32%, 28%, 24%, 20%, 16%, 12%, 8%, 4%, and 0%).

The wraiths can only be damaged with the shrouds. A shroud's "Lure" ability can be used to leash the wraith to the shrouded player while the wraith can be DPS'd via melee using the shroud's weapons.

Wraiths hit for a max ~25,000 and proc the spell "Stun" on their targets:

Stun: Single Target, Unresistable (-980)
1: Stun (4.00 sec/200)

Note that wraiths can and will attack unshrouded players, so the players who are in shroud should be sure to get their aggro as soon as possible.

If an unshrouded player attempts to DPS a wraith, the wraith will emote the following and regenerate to 100% health:

A wraith heals itself. It can only be damaged by Withering Shade Blades.

Wraiths should only be handled by shrouded players.

Event Failure & Reset

If Marnek Jaull is left idle for more than 60 seconds, the event does a full reset, and all living players and corpses warp to the zone-in area.

Event Completion

Kill Marnek and ANY adds still alive to complete the event.

Upon doing so, a chest spawns with loot.
