In Detail

Let Ain Kavus know that you are 'ready' to depart 0/1 (Grelleth's Palace)

You say, 'Ready!'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Grelleth's Palace, the Chateau of Filth.

Make your way into the throne room where you will see Queen Grelleth (non-aggro), a few sleeping guards, and some expedition NPCs.

Confront Queen Grelleth 0/1 (Grelleth's Palace)

Task Window Says: Queen Grelleth will not give you the privilege of battle without a proper introduction.

Approach Grelleth (not aggro until triggered) and speak with her ("fight" to initiate the event).

You say, 'Hail, Grelleth, her Majesty the Queen'

Grelleth, her Majesty the Queen sniffs the air, 'My god, children what is the awful stench that has approached our throne!? This miserable pest couldn't be the dinner offering this silly expedition has brought us could it? Tell me pest, do you intend to put up a [fight] or are you a [willing sacrifice]?'

It is not advisable to offer a sacrifice:

You say, 'I am a willing sacrifice'

Grelleth, her Majesty the Queen claps her hands together cheerfully, 'Excellent!' She leans forward and cuts _____'s head clean off!

YOU were injured by a trap.
You have been knocked unconscious!
You died.

So, instead:

You say, 'We want a fight'

Grelleth, her Majesty the Queen recoils in confusion at your response, 'You enter my domain, threaten my babies and challenge me to battle? Who in the world do you think you are!? You... you miserable, greedy, insolent sack of revolting flesh! CHILDREN, OUR FEAST HAS ARRIVED!'

Grelleth, her Majesty the Queen begins stomping the ground beneath her violently as she moves in to crush her next foe.

Grelleth goes aggro and remains aggro through the entire event, although she is permanently rooted for the time being. Note that she does not summon, so you can leave her be and stay outside her melee and spell range. From this point to her death, she casts these two spells (she will have other spells in her arsenal, later in the event):

Execution: Single Target, (-1200)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 12308 to 15385 (random)

Queen's Swing: PB AE 100', (-1200)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 15385 to 16923 (random)
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 3077 to 3231 (random) per tick

Upon event trigger, 2x "a palace guard" spawn and attack. Kill them:

a palace guard has been slain by _____!
The palace guard begins squealing frantically as its blood pools on the floor.

The sleeping palace guards spring to their feet now that their companions have been slain.

Two more guards attack. Kill them, then DPS the Queen to 98% to spawn Turo.

Defeat Turo 0/1 (Grelleth's Palace)

Task Window Says: Turo the youngest and his horde of assassins is your first obstacle.

Grelleth stomps her feet and begins shouting, 'Turo! Son!? Get out here now!' From the back of the room you hear the scraping of wood and the march of quiet footsteps.

Turo hits for a max ~13,000. He casts "Crazy Blade" on whoever is second highest on aggro (nuke up to 55,000 and 13,000 DOT for 3 ticks); AEs "Smogscreen" (200' range nuke for 20,000 + melee inhibitor for 3 ticks); casts "Knife Whirl" on random single target (nuke for 61,000); and casts "Slick Toss" on random single target (nuke for 65,000 + knockback + silence for 1 tick).

If one of these adds is up for 90 seconds or longer, they buff themselves with "Fear Shard Fury" (increases their DPS).

Diseased Blade: Single Target, (-10000)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 15385 to 21539 (random)
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 12308 to 13846 (random) per tick

Fear Shard Fury: Self 0', Unresistable (0)

Turo has been slain by _____!
Turo looks toward his mother and cries out for help before falling over dead.

Defeat Lelri and Lelro 0/1 (Grelleth's Palace)

Task Window Says: The twins Lelri and Lelro and their pet oashim are your next challenge.

Grelleth roars, 'Lelro, Lelri! Mommy needs you. Come out here and rip these miserable intruders limb from limb!' From the back of the room you hear the scraping of wood and the slow drudging of footsteps.

Lelri and Lelro each hit for a max ~13,000. They must be kept balanced in health (within 20%) or they heal each other.

If they fall out of balance, you'll see an emote like this (and both will heal about 10%):

Lelri looks fearfully at his brother and tosses him a potion of healing.

The twins also spawn waves of oashim adds (four at a time; fairly weak). You'll see this emote when they appear:

Loud squeaking begins echoing from every corner of the hall.

Note that when you kill one twin, the other one powers up:

Enraged by the death of his brother, Lelro begins swinging with reckless abandon.

Kill the twins and then bring Grelleth to 82% to spawn Wuran.

an oashim swarmling has been slain by _____!

Lelri has been slain by _____!
Lelri sighs in disappointment, 'At least I was mother's favorite!'

Lelro has been slain by _____!

Defeat Wuran 0/1 (Grelleth's Palace)

Grelleth calls out sweetly, 'Wuran, you've always been mommy's favorite. Come on out here and deal with these mean intruders for her!' A loud thud echoes off the door in the back of the room before it opens.

Wuran hits for a max ~13,000. He casts "Rotting Flesh" on a random target (a targeted AE, 15' range; 35 disease counters; nuke for 27,000 hp + 60-second melee slow + 3,000 hp DOT).

He casts "Touch of Decay" on the tank (nuke for 32,000 hp + AC/stat/Aggro reduction + melee slow for 5 ticks).

Also, every 30-40 seconds, he buffs Grelleth with "Boon of Decay" (increases her damage output for 6 ticks).

Rotting Flesh: Targeted AE 15', Disease (-1000)

4: Inhibit Melee Attacks by (20%)
9: Decrease Stats by 400

11: Negate Spell Mana Cost Effect

Kill Wuran and his adds, then bring Grelleth to 72% to spawn Zurel.

a priest of decay has been slain by _____!
a priest of decay begins deteriorating at an alarming rate.

Wuran has been slain by _____!
Wuran stumbles back on his broken legs, 'Mom! MOM! MOMMY!'

Defeat Zurel 0/1 (Grelleth's Palace)

Task Window Says: Zurel is the apple of her mother's eye and also the most dangerous child of the royal family.

Grelleth sighs and confesses, 'I guess I should have raised these miserable leeches to fight better.' She then raises her hand to her mouth and calls out, 'Zuuuuuuurel! Mommy could really use your help about now!' An unnerving female roar booms out through the hall after Grelleth's request.

Zurel hits for a max ~13,000. She casts "Axe Spin" (PB AE 80' range nuke for 33,000 + knockback); "Axe Blade" on random single target (nuke for 41,000 + AC reduction); and "Grapple Chain" on second-highest on aggro (pull effect).

11: Negate AC Limit Modifier Effect

Grapple Chain: Targeted AE 10', (-10000)
2: Slow Push (-200)

She spawns an add ("an elite soldier") at 70% and 40%. These adds cast "Wild Swing" (PBAE 40' range nuke for 28,000) and buff themselves with "Ignore Pain" when low in health (reduces damage taken).

Wild Swing: PB AE 40', (-1000)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 27693 to 28462 (random)

Kill Zurel and her adds, then bring Grelleth to 62% to spawn Kotul.

an elite soldier has been slain by _____!
an elite soldier writhes around as if it were still fighting.

Zurel has been slain by _____!
Zurel glares at you defiantly before drawing her axe across her own throat.

Defeat Kotul 0/1 (Grelleth's Palace)

Task Window Says: Kotul the brilliant, exercise caution when doing battle with him.

Grelleth looks panicked as she yells, 'K..Kotul? Are you still there son?'An ominous silence follows her words as the door opens and a cloaked swinetor makes its way into the hall.

Kotul hits for a max ~13,000 and flurries. Every 30-40 seconds, he buffs Grelleth with "Boon of Decay" (increases her damage output for 6 ticks; the same buff Wuran cast earlier).

Kotul spawns undead versions of the previous mini bosses:

92% (Turo)
82% (Lelri and Lelro)
72% (Wuran)
62% (Zurel)

These are weaker versions (hit for slightly less and have less hitpoints), but they retain their earlier abilities, spells, and mechanics.

At 92%:

Kotul extends his forked spear into the ground and rakes together some fresh body parts. He waves his hand over them and shouts, 'Arise little brother, mother said your work is not yet done!'

Turo`s Remains lumbers awkwardly toward _____.

Turo`s Remains has been slain by _____!
Turo`s Remains crumbles to pieces.

Kotul shouts, 'Turo you worthless sack of vomitous refuse! I hope your afterlife is spent over a campfire spit!'

At 82%:

Kotul grabs an armful of bones and a few hunks of flesh and throws them on the ground. His incantation seems terribly informal, 'Lelri, Lelro... Dinner's ready!'

Lelro`s Remains lumbers awkwardly toward _____.
Lelri`s Remains lumbers awkwardly toward _____.

Lelro`s Remains has been slain by _____!
Lelro`s Remains falls to the ground.

Lelri`s Remains has been slain by _____!
Lelri`s Remains falls to the ground.

Kotul growls, 'You idiots! I thought between the two of you, you would manage to come up with half a brain's worth of strategy here! Mother should have had you executed at birth in the same fashion as your dimwitted father!'

At 72%:

Kotul frowns as he picks up half of a freshly severed Swinetor head. He sighs, 'Well Wuran, you're at least easier to deal with than your portly sister.' He kicks the repulsive hunk of flesh through the dirt and a skeleton forms underneath it.

Wuran`s Remains lumbers awkwardly toward _____.

Wuran`s Remains has been slain by _____!
Wuran`s Remains breaks apart.

Kotul lets out a surprisingly loud sigh, 'I should have smothered you before your first birthday, Wuran...'

At 62%:

Kotul bends down and picks up a dripping hunk of flesh. He begins to retch when he realizes it's his sister's leg. He throws the blubbery meat against the wall and a skeleton forms around it.

Zurel`s Remains lumbers awkwardly toward _____.

Zurel`s Remains has been slain by _____!
Zurel`s Remains begins oozing putrid liquids.

Kotul roars, 'Fine! If my worthless siblings can offer us no assistance then I guess it's up to me to protect you mom!'

Kill all the adds to unlock Kotul's health. Kill Kotul, then move on to Grelleth.

Kotul has been slain by _____!

Kotul looks back at his mother one last time before his skin begins melting off his body. All that is left of the necromancer after a few seconds is a mass of congealed entrails.

NOTE: Kotul's death locks the task.

Defeat Grelleth 0/1 (Grelleth's Palace)

Defeat all of Grelleth's remaining minions 0/1 (Grelleth's Palace)

Task Window Says: Now that you have put an end to her children, Grelleth is ready to give you the privilege of battle! Defeat Grelleth and all her remaining reinforcements.

At 52% health, Grelleth becomes unrooted:

Grelleth snarls and grinds her teeth, 'Very well, it is time to show you how I earned this crown!' She tosses her hand-axes to the ground and takes hold of a mightier weapon.

Your allies look toward the newly empowered queen and make a dash for the door!

She gains an ability called "Fearsome Bellow" (targeted 30' range AE; nuke for 40,000 hp + stat decrease for 8 ticks):

Fearsome Bellow: Targeted AE 30', Unresistable (-10000)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 39562
9: Decrease Stats by 100

This AE is preceded by an emote (occurs every 90 seconds; flashes up on screen and in text):

Grelleth prepares to strike _____ with a powerful attack! Someone else should take her attention.

When you see this emote, you have 15 seconds to switch tanks. Once you switch tanks, you'll see this:

Grelleth, her Majesty the Queen is forced to turn to a new target!
_____ suddenly has someone's complete attention.

You still need the new tank to keep aggro, however, because she will still perform a "check" at the end of 15 seconds. If her target is different from whoever was tanking at the original emote, you'll see this success emote (flashes on screen):

Grelleth has lost her focus on _____.

At this point, it's safe for the original tank to take aggro again.

If you fail to do the tank switch, you will see this:

Grelleth unleashes a powerful attack on _____!
Grelleth, her Majesty the Queen drives her foot through her victim's skull leaving nothing but a pulpy mass.

...And she casts "Fearsome Bellow" (each time she manages to cast this, she also increases her damage output by 10%.

In addition to all of the above, she also spawns two health-based adds: 1x "a reanimated servant" at 21% and 19% health (these adds are mezzable).

NOTE: If you wipe out, the event does not reset. The Queen does, however, regenerate to 100% and retains the abilities she had at whatever health you left her at (so, if you wipe out at 30%, she will regenerate to 100%, but will be unrooted, summon, and will do the tank emote from the start). Any adds you have already killed will not respawn. Any adds that were alive at the time of the wipeout will remain up (they are NOT auto-aggro, so you can CR in the zone).

Kill the Queen along with all adds to win the event.

Grelleth, her Majesty the Queen has been slain by _____!

Grelleth, her Majesty the Queen falls to the floor with clenched fists. She looks around the room at the remains of her brood before whispering, 'My beautiful babies, how could this have happened?' Her eyes close and after a few heavy heaves her breath ceases.

From the back of the room you hear the familiar sound of scraping wood. The inner sanctum door opens revealing a massive pile of refuse with a few shiny objects sticking out of it. You are now welcome to claim your... 'prizes'.

Claim your rewards from Grelleth's pile of refuse 0/1 (Grelleth's Palace)

Task Window Says: The door in the back of the hall has opened revealing a pile of refuse with a few shiny treasures sticking out of it. Go claim your rewards!

You sift through the pile of putrid waste to find a few articles of treasure. Thoughts of your latest conquest are fresh in mind as you begin to wonder how it was the great 'queen' was so easily defeated. The dread fear that this victory may have been nothing but a hollow illusion and that the real queen may be safely residing in another castle of filth sets upon you... but you are happy enough to claim the spoils of this charade and be on your way.

Extra Stuff: Your Allies

In addition to the Queen and her many adds, you'll also see a few expedition members in the zone. While not a whole lot of practical help, you will have some moral support from them as they assist you in attacking.

These NPCs are not a part of the task's progression. You don't have to interact with them, and whether they survive or retreat, has no bearing on the task's outcome.

Reena Kedson

You say, 'Hail, Reena Kedson'

Reena Kedson says 'It is a shame it has come to this.'

When aggro'd: Reena Kedson holds her nose as she charges into the fray.

When retreating: Reena Kedson strains her voice to shout above the din of battle, 'It must be the stench that's getting to me. I must retreat for now.'

Ain Kavus

You say, 'Hail, Ain Kavus'

Ain Kavus smiles, '_____! You're not a moment too soon! The wretched fiend has shown her disgusting face but refuses to give us the pleasure of battle without what she calls 'a proper feast' present.'

When aggro'd: Ain Kavus points its blade toward its next foe.

When retreating: Ain Kavus staggers back and shouts, 'Strike at these swine with all the fervor within you! I must make my leave.'

Sherri Ganes

You say, 'Hail, Sherri Ganes'

Sherri Ganes snarls angrily, 'Wretched pigs don't even have the decency to die quiet! Go let 'er know it's time for us to eat bacon!'

When aggro'd: Sherri Ganes grins from ear to ear as she dives into the fight.

When retreating: Sherri Ganes coughs up a bit of blood as she staggers toward the exit. She calls back to you with a rather confident boast, 'Little piggies make the best bacon. Bring me what's left of their carcasses when you're done here!'

Relco Finn

You say, 'Hail, Relco Finn'

Relco Finn stands at attention and salutes you crisply, 'Right on time, _____! Our remaining allies are up ahead in a standoff with the trash queen. Should you need to make a hasty retreat just use the door behind you there.' The halfling points at the rickety wooden door.

When aggro'd: Relco Finn sighs loudly before charging into battle.

When retreating: Relco Finn grabs his arm and sighs as he begins limping away from the battle, 'Looks like you'll have to win this one without me.'

At 110 this is a relatively easy task to solo or box. The only item of note is to clear the mobs as the queen spawns them. For instance, harm touching the queen as an opener in the fight will get you a whole room full of mobs to deal with... and in my case, a free teleport back to my bind point.

Just slow dps the queen and pick up/kill all adds as they spawn and it will be easy. 110 pet can tank the queen, and as long as the healer merc isn't drawing agro from a whole room full of mobs it's smooth sailing.

Prior --- 100%: 2x "a palace guard", then another 2x "a palace guard" after the first two are dead.

Now the second set of "a palace guard" do not appear until after Grelleth "powers up" and is unhinged from her throne thus still allowing you to complete the Persistent Guardian achievement.

As well only the reanimated servants appear during that final phase. Presumably at 21% and / or 19%, but hard to tell as I burnt through those percentages very fast mid burn.
Some tips

With the patch changes (fewer adds) this is not hard at all.

While working towards 50% you can pause between nameds and med / rebuff / wait for discs / afk if you want to.

On Kotul, pull him to the side near queen - you don't want the friendly NPC's to dps him. Control his hp slowly and deal with the adds 1 at a time.

On queen, I ignored the emotes and used single tank with defensive running, he did get hit with the big strike but the damage wasn't enough to notice.

Wuran and Zurel only spawn two adds each now -- I didn't catch at what percentages they appeared.
All of the adds listed from 45% to 23% have been removed -- none of them spawn now.
There are only two reanimated servants at the end now -- also did not catch the exact percentages.

Considering the volume of adds removed, combined with the changes to mob HPs and offensive abilities, this mission is now supremely easier than the original incarnation. Extremely doable now, 3 boxed it without any substantial difficulty.

Very satisfying to have this done.

Got this done today, and what a ***** it is. 2 tanks, cleric, chanter, beastlord and this monk. All t3 raidequipped. Key is to control your dps. Know when the adds or the next mini is coming. Adds in mission unlike raid are mezzable. And of course, be ready to switch agro when the named emote comes at the end.

We wiped after getting through all the minis and the first few adds, when all the rats pounced on the cleric. But after the final phase starts the boss doesn't respawn the adds, so we had plenty of time to reform and keep going. This monk, in fact, was able to kill the last 8 rat adds without further agro, so unlike the regular adds at the end those 8 rats don't seem to be linked to the boss. Anyway I soloed them while the party reformed. We tanked the boss with the Beastlord's warder until the agro switch emote came, then tank 1 took over. But tank 2 has to be ready because tank 1 might have the root/stun effect on him.

Very satisfying to have this done.

Definitely not a task for those who can't handle dying repeatedly, dislike complex event mechanics, or have any free time on their hands. A friend and I boxed this for about 5 1/2 hours last night, got the queen to 20 % but no bacon. The adds at that point were simply too numerous for us to clear in time. Granted this was our first attempt on the event, so we were learning everything as well. I have a summary of my own to post, with all my findings from the long death filled night:

100 %, just 2 pigs w/ trash difficulty, then 2 more pigs w/ trash difficulty. Pigs can be snared or mezzed.

98 %, Turo hits pretty mean, but the effects are the real painful part. Suggest burning down and mezzing or snaring/kiting the adds for CC, the buff they get is pretty strong, but very tankable. Much more so than tanking turo and an assassin repeatedly.

87 %, Lelro/Lelri, you will need 2 tanks for this or 1 very strong tank or 1 tank and a melee. The AE is survivable, but not enjoyable. The oashin adds can easily be mezzed, but I recommend killing them as well as they can really pile up. The 20 % balance is more like a 10 % balance imo, they kept healing when clearly they were within 20 % of each other.

81 %, Wuran, adds are NOT mezzable, but didn't seem to do very much either. Recommend just burning Wuran down and then finishing the adds afterwards.

72 %, Zurel, adds are mezzable/snareable, make sure you have control of this fight before just going ahead and burning, as a failed attempt getting her to 20 %, WILL keep her powered up regenned at 100 %. I also recommend fighting Zurel in the tunnel to negate the nasty knockback effects. Burn Zurel down while keeping the adds mezzed or kited.

61 %, Kotul. Definitely a long fight. Important to note that the summoned remains do NOT have their original adds. I repeat they do NOT spawn their original adds. The main thing you need here is 2 tanks to split up the damage between Kotul and whatever remains he has up at the time. The hardest part for us was Lelro and Lelri as one tank had to tank Kotul + a twin. The twin proximity AE hurt, but was easily group healable so don't stress that too much. Recommend fighting in tunnel again since you will get Zurel again w/ knockbacks a plenty.

52 % Queen activates. Do not, I repeat do NOT trigger this until you are damn well ready with a tank on good agro. There isn't really a decent way around the tank switching either. If you ***** this up the first time, she will retain her near DT ability and use it on the puller, and this ability happens at the start of each pull too, not at 90 second intervals. We died a great many times trying to just get her off her throne after the initial screwup of having a dps on agro at 52 %. Recommend letting dps do their thing at a distance up to about 55 %, then zone them out and let tanks have the agro so you got a good start.

> 52 % Activated Queen, if you do not have a way of tank switching here, life will be very difficult. This might be possible one tankable if your tank can FD and can do so at right about 12-13 seconds to avoid the nasty effect, but would want a pet constantly beating on it to be second in line or a stronger melee type. Adds follow the same mezz/root rules as their predecessors, I cannot confirm anything for a reanimated servant though, I will post again if I find anything out about them. We just decided the hell with it and turned burn on at 50 %, was able to get her to 20 % before the adds simply overwhelmed us.

Pulling Adds From Failed Attempts: The adds and named are linked, but it seems to be a weak link. With a skilled puller or two and a patient group, it is possible to split them off from the main force using FD/Snare and the like if you can get them near the zoneline. This however is EXTREMELY time consuming, is why we gave up at 5 1/2 hours in, we simply didn't have the time to clear the adds and get another queen shot in.

Group Makeup: From what we experienced, the ideal group makeup would consist of 2 tanks, 2 healers, 1 CC (enchanter probably do better due to the sheer volume of adds, especially at queen segment), and 1 DPS. The 2 tanks (or 1 tank + 1 really strong melee) I don't see a decent way around due to the queen's mechanics, a real strong tank can just straight tank the twins if the healers are good. Could probably sub 1 healer for another DPS as well, if the 1 healer is exceptional. I simply recommend 2 due to the numerous stun/silence/knockback mechanics.

The Queen Can Wait Her Turn: Is very easy to zone in and zone out to wipe agro and get OOC timers. Is also possible to blur her using beguiler's directed banishment to make her children a little easier to deal with.

Hoping this post can help save someone the kind of headaches we encountered last night, we will likely win our next attempt now that we know exactly what to expect.

EDIT: The reanimated servants can indeed be mesmerized.
