Rain of Fear Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This raid expedition is initiated by touching the fear shard in Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening. This is located in the south-central part of the zone at around -7700, -275, 185.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Completed "Scaring Up Some Information"
- Completed "Indoctrination"
- Completed "The Sacrifice"
- Completed "The Sweet Taste of Revenge"
- Completed "Confronting Your Fears" (group mission)
- Completed "Danela's Stand (Crystal Caverns raid)
- Completed "The Madness of King Tormax" (Kael Drakkel raid)

Pre-Requisites for Participating:
- Completed "Danela's Stand (Crystal Caverns raid)
- Completed "The Madness of King Tormax" (Kael Drakkel raid)
- Players lacking the above two flags can be zoned in via the 85% rule.

Upon getting near the fear shard in Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening, you'll see a pop-up window:

You can sense that you can push through Zeixshi-Kar's barrier. The power of your group, their lack of fear, provide you with the strength you would need.

Clicking on "Yes" initiates the expedition (or zones you in, if you already have it).

Contact with the other powers of Fear that you have overcome may be the only reason that you do not fall to the terror you feel as you pass through the barrier.

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Zeixshi-Kar's Shard.

Summary

- This event plays out exactly as in the group mission, only with stronger mobs and more adds.
- Say "death" to Zeixshi-Kar to trigger the event.
- All corpses (including PC corpses) gain a 20' range damage AE which they will cast periodically as long as the corpses remain. This occurs through the entire event.
- The first waves consist of drakes which spawn all around the event area and make their way into the raid.
- The next waves consist of a mix of Coldain and giants (NPCs with "soldier" in their names can be charmed to make them attack the opposing race; note that this doesn't act as a normal charm, so you can use it multiple times with more than one "pet" per charm caster).
- Zeixshi-Kar goes live and auto-aggro's after all adds are dead or after a timer runs out (whichever occurs first). He summons from 100% health.
- Zeixshi-Kar has an AE rampage (full damage), rear AE, frontal AE, a PBAE nuke+dispell, and a PBAE knockback+nuke; and will encase random players in crystal (kill the crystal to free the player).
- Kill Zeixshi-Kar to win the event.

Triggering the Event

Speak with Zeixshi-Kar to trigger the event (note that you'll have several moments before the first mobs appear).

You say, 'Hail, Zeixshi-Kar'

Zeixshi-Kar shouts 'What? How did mortals get in here to disturb me? Ah, you defeated those fools that I trusted with my [power]. And now you've used it to get in here to bother me.'

You say, 'What power?'

Zeixshi-Kar shouts 'A mortal like you would never fully understand what I have learned, the power that I have been able to drag from this... this shard of Fear. Its power has become mine. You should consider this. I was strong before, but now, now you should run. You should fear me. But then, you're not bright enough for that, are you. There is one thing I understand clearly now; the truly [stupid] can't be frightened.'

You say, 'Stupid?!'

Zeixshi-Kar shouts 'Most like to call it bravery, but I know differently. Willingness to die for something is only a misunderstanding of facts. Dying for something is meaningless and stupid. So I will give you one chance to [leave]. The other option for you is [death].'

You say, 'It shall be your death!'

Zeixshi-Kar shouts 'This is what I expected of you.'

Zeixshi-Kar wakes up and starts flying around the zone (still non-aggro at this point).

Add Waves

After triggering the event, you'll have several waves of NPCs to kill off. With the exception of the first wave (which spawns shortly after the event trigger, all waves spawn after the previous wave has died OR after a certain amount of time has passed (whichever occurs first - the exact time limit is unknown).

- First Wave: 8x "a feartattered drake" (spawn shortly after event trigger)
- Second Wave: Mix of numerous several Coldain/Giants
- Third Wave: Mix of numerous Coldain/Giants
- Fourth Wave: Mix of several Coldain/Giants, including 1x "a coldain captain" + 1x "a kromrif captain"
- Fifth Wave: Zeixshi-Kar

Trash mobs in the waves here hit for max ~18,000. The two captains hit for a max ~29,000 and have more hitpoints than the regular mobs.

These NPCs are NOT auto-aggro. As they spawn, they roam around in seemingly random paths. You can generally allow them to aggro your raid on their own accord. If you need to pull some, the puller shouldn't get too far ahead of the NPC so not to trigger an extra add.

Coldain and Kromrif NPCs with "soldier" in their names can be charmed. When hit with a charm spell, they'll pick out another NPC to attack:

a coldain soldier shouts 'I have not forgotten who my real enemy is, A kromrif guard!'

These don't act as regular pets (can't be controlled) and don't appear to break their charms unless they are attacked by players.

If any NPC is kited (where the mob's target is outside of its melee range for more than about 5 seconds), the targeted player gets summoned to the center and an additional add spawns:

Zeixshi-Kar shouts 'So, _____, trying to run? I accept your terror and deliver to you a reward!'

Many NPC corpses occasionally pulse the AE "Sweltering Carcass":

Sweltering Carcass: PB AE 20' Unresistable (-700)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 73000
2: Knockback (1) and Toss Up (2)

They have an item called "Shard Dust" on their corpses, but this item cannot be looted.

Note also that as Zeixshi-Kar makes his rounds in the air, he pulses the AE "Lava Breath":

Lava Breath: PB AE 200', Fire (-850)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 48000
2: Cancel Magic (9)

In between waves, you'll see emotes like this:

Zeixshi-Kar shouts 'I have taken your measure, and you have not the strength or courage to defeat me. You know that, deep in your hearts. Your fear is like nectar to me! I shall introduce you to others that thought to defeat me. I have enslaved them all. They thought they were brave, they valued their strength or wits. But they, too, were fools. Their hearts could not withstand my power, their minds crumbled with fear. Come, my minions! Come and regain some of your once-great pride! Come and slay these fools!'

Zeixshi-Kar shouts 'So, you can deal out a lot of damage. I know exactly how to defeat you then!'

Zeixshi-Kar

After all adds have been killed (or after a certain timer has run out, whichever occurs first), Zeixshi-Kar drops to the ground (from wherever he happens to be at the time, so watch for him) and becomes aggroable (or, if you're within range, he'll aggro you anyway).

Zeixshi-Kar summons from 100% health; hits for a max ~40,000; flurries; single-target rampages; and frequently AE rampages for full damage. It is reported (but not confirmed) that the further away Zeixshi-Kar is from the center of the event area, the more DPS he puts out.

Every 25 seconds, he casts the rear AE "Sweeping Tail":

Sweeping Tail: Directional 200', Unresistable (-850)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 39000
2: Knockback (2) and Toss Up (4)

Also every 25 seconds, he casts the AE "Lava Breath":

Lava Breath: PB AE 200', Fire (-850)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 48000
2: Cancel Magic (9)

Every 40 seconds, he casts the AE "Wing Buffet" (also a strong knockback):

Wing Buffet: PB AE 400', Chromatic (-900)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 32500

If Zeixshi-Kar's target is outside of his melee range, he may proc "Horrible Insight" on them:

You feel the pull of your darkest fear. You are drawn toward it with terrible inevitability.

Horrible Insight: Single Target, Magic (-1000)
1: Mesmerize (31/200) (6 ticks)

With some frequency, he encases random targets in crystals with the spell "Crystallizing Fear":

Crystallizing Fear: Single Target, Magic (-10000)
1: Mesmerize (0)
2: Invulnerability (5 minutes)

Inflicted targets can be freed by attacking and killing the crystal that spawns on them (DPS'able via normal means).

Event Failure & Reset

The event's initial adds (drakes and giants) can be left idle for an indefinite amount of time without the event resetting. If your raid wipes out early on in the event, you will have to wait until Zeixshi-Kar becomes aggro before you can begin a corpse recovery. Depending on what point you progressed to, this may take several minutes.

Zeixshi-Kar, himself, can be left idle for approximately 30 seconds before the event does a full reset:

Zeixshi-Kar shouts 'I grow bored of waiting for you to act. You have failed, remember that as the fear grows deep in your heart.'

Event Completion

Kill Zeixshi-Kar and any remaining crystals to complete the event:

Zeixshi-Kar has been slain by _____!
A voice resonates from the crystal, 'So long as any of my minions live, I live!'

NOTE: In addition to chest loot, everyone in the zone receives 10x "Velium Shard" (used as an alternative way obtain raid drops, from Armorer Jean Wenlaris in the Harbinger camp of Shard's Landing.

Requesting Raid

After spending way too much time trying to figure out why my request isn't working (why couldn't they just give a request mob?) I was able to deduce you need a bunch of other players standing physically close to the requestor. I'm not sure how many I had- like 7 or 8. You may even need raid - that part I can't recall , but physical proximity of other players is a necessity when requesting. One player trying to request alone, even when other players are technically in group, will not work.

Understanding the Adds

So seems to be a lot of confusion about how the adds work, how to pull them, etceteras. So am going to lay out a few facts about them and what I have found to be the best pulling strategy.

1. They CAN summon at 100 %, but this is actually distance based, not what way you are turned or anything like that. I would say about 1/3rd of max spell cast range on detrimental spells and further out will get you summoned.

2. They have a monstrous agro assist range, it is very possible to accidentally pull all the adds in the zone from trying to get 1 mob. From part 1, this can easily turn into instant ping pong death. It is wise to not melee, shoot any arrows, or cast any detrimental spells of any kind on them while pulling, this will greatly reduce the agro linking.

3. They agro from a far distance away, in fact this distance is further away than their min range to summon. This would make them pretty impossible to pull, except for part 4...

4. They do NOT see invisible.

So as you can see they are complicated little boogers, but there is a way to pull them that should only get you 1-3 mobs a pull. I'll outline it in a step by step process here:

1. INVIS, you will get agro far too soon without.

2. Find 1 or 2 off by themselves away from the main herd of them.

3. Get to about maybe 1/4 spell cast range, being sure they are still aloneish.

4. Break invis, but do not attack them in any way, simply let them auto agro.

5. Run back to camp w/ your 1-3 mobs, rinse repeat as necessary.

sometimes, the entrance is bugged, i.e. the pop-up window that would ask if you want to enter the instance doesnt show, no matter how often you approach. even rezoning doesnt fix it, and it happens to fully flagged and piggies alike.
you have to wait for banner if it happens

To participate requires the CC Danela's Stand and the Kael Madness of Tormax raids. Info is listed on the Adventurer of Fear (Raid) achivement.

Adventurer of Fear (Raid) achievement is then needed to participate in the first 4 T2 raids. Completing those gets you Hero of Fear (raid) achievement which lets you participate in the last 3 T2 raids.

The 85/15 rule takes affect for those unflagged.

NToV raid is outside of all of this.

It's a pita. It's not what they said was supposed to happen when the expansion was released (only the requester was to have restrictions). It is how it is working.
