Rain of Fear Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This solo task begins with Harbinger Glask (map) in Shard's Landing. She is located at 185, 70, 1 (inside the same tent as Overseer Drent in the crater's southwest).

    Pre-Requisites:
    - Level 85
    - Completed "Welcome to Shard's Landing"
    - Completed "Words of the Unspoken"
    - Completed "Unusual Goral Coral"
    - Completed "The Harbingers of Thule"
    - Completed "Conquering Your Fears"

    You say, 'Hail, Harbinger Glask'

Harbinger Glask raps her sharpened claws against the desk in quick succession and sighs. She looks up at you for a moment then back down at the desk again. She inhales, preparing what you think will be a grand speech about the importance of your role in assisting the Harbingers, but she simply exhales again. A few seconds pass until she finally speaks, her focus still on the desk, 'You have a [job] to do.' Somehow you feel validated even by her attention, even if she did not say your name.

You say, 'Does this job pay well?'

Harbinger Glask says 'The discovery of fearshards in the halls of the Believers is troubling news. All accounts from our envoys who are currently working with their council claim that their little cult down there has no interest in our business up here. What's more, the reports from our spies state that the citizens and slaves of their city have no interest in impeding our mission. I need you to exercise a little diplomacy and attend a sermon within their worship halls. Something tells me that the clergy and the council are not on the same page.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Believers'.

Harbinger Glask has asked you to travel back into the Underground City and attend a sermon of the Clergy in hopes that you can glean some information that their spies have not.

Travel to the Underground City 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

Upon entering the city (map), you see:

From what Glask has told you it sounds like the citizens are unaware of the clergy's plot to obtain more of the fearshards that the Harbingers are after. You imagine you'll do well not to cause too much trouble while in the city.

Return to the Silent Hall 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: The Silent Hall of worship plays host to a seemingly endless sermon that must be delivered telepathically, seeing as none of our spies have ever reported anyone speaking in these halls... Other than a few adventurers who were quickly 'dealt with' by the believers.

Upon entering the Silent Hall (map), you see:

When Glask was speaking to you she put particular emphasis on the word 'diplomacy'. Simply listening to the sermon is all that you were tasked with accomplishing.

Sit and listen to the sermon of the clergy 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: Clear your mind and listen for whatever it is these Believers hear in this hall.

Wait for emotes to play out (map).

A gentle voice fills your ears, yet no one in the hall seems to be speaking, 'You are loved.'

Al is with us. Al is around us. Al knows that in your heart, your intentions are earnest. Whether you have chosen to be here or were ordered to be here. Al forgives your shortcomings and accepts your imperfections.

Al speaks to you as a friend while others may berate you as a child. Al does not encourage trivialities and deception. You are loved just as you are to ali.

Al knows you, perhaps better than you know yourself. Al knows it is your intention to seek some evidence of defamation, but we present ourselves openly and honestly. We judge you only on your standing with us and not your subversive intent.

We present you a choice. To be the lapdog to the worshipers of a dead god or to be the one that clears our name and ensures peace between our peoples.

The crystals that rained down upon our land have tormented our citizens. Many of them lay awake at night, tortured by visions. We have no desire to see our people suffer. It is not us that have gathered these shards of nightmare. They were surreptitiously planted here.

Travel to the site of suffering, the Village of the Unworthy. These tortured souls writhe in agony without Alis love. The love of the one whose name is unspoken. The love that will free us from the perils of this world! Free these souls from their suffering so they may return to Alis arms. It is they who have planted these accursed shards here!

This step updates at this point.

Return to the Village of the Forsaken 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: It was clearly the Unworthy that planted the fearshards in the hall in an effort to draw attention away from themselves. Travel to their village so you can gather evidence of this subversion and free these souls from their suffering.

This is back in the east-central part of the zone (map). Upon entering the area, you see:

You feel them watching your every move, some of them hidden in their houses while others are on patrol around the collection of broken hovels. It is time that you freed them from this suffering.

Liberate the forsaken souls from their tortured lives 0/6 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: Free the tortured souls from their suffering so their spirits can return to the Underground City.

Kill six several villagers (map) in the Forsaken Village. NOTE: You must be on the mob's hate list to get updates.

On second kill: You feel a great sense of relief as you free the soul from its tortured mortal husk.

On fourth kill: The corpse looks up at you with a smile as its last signs of life vanish.

On sixth kill: You use the Alaran's own dagger to neatly sever its head from its body. The serenity of the moment is broken as the disembodied head begins howling loudly.

Upon the last kill, you get an "Alaran Head".

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head says, 'Are you mad, you raving lunatic? Was killing me not enough? Now you must torture me in undeath by dragging me around in your stuffy pack? What exactly do you expect to accomplish?'

    This updates the step.

Share the truth with the misinformed head 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: Return this undead soul back to the temple as evidence of the Unworthy's actions.

Go back to the Silent Hall (map). On your way back, the head will be talking to you:

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head says, 'They've gotten to you, haven't they? They're all in this together. They tried to make us do this and that is why we escaped! What lies have they told you about us?'

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head says, 'You don't have to do this. You could return me to my village and leave me to rest there!'

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head begins shaking violently, 'W..w..wait! No! Don't take me back there! Please, just crush me, incinerate me, grind me to a fine powder! I BEG OF YOU! ANYTHING BUT RETURNING ME TO THE TORMENTS OF THE CLERGY!'

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head says, 'I'm not the one you want. It is the others that are behind this. The ones that commune with the dark god! The ones that are responsible for all of this suffering. It is them, not I, whom you must confront!'

And upon reaching the Silent Hall:

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head speaks much more calmly, 'Look around you, these are the conduits of his power. Put a few of these mindless thralls to rest and you will sever the link between the dark one and this land. Think of it as liberating these tortured souls from their slavery just as you freed me from my suffering!'

    This updates the step.

Free the thralls from their subjugation 0/5 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: The screaming undead head continued to claim its innocence and rambles on about some evil god. Explore its theory about the thralls in the city being a conduit for this being.

Kill soulless attendees (map) in the Silent Hall and/or subjugated thralls in the arena.

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head says, 'Can you see it? Can you feel their souls finding freedom now? You are a hero to them!'

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head says, 'Just a few more and Alis grasp will slip from their throats!'

You feel the attention of the congregation on you.

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head begins speaking in a panic, 'No! They have sent their soldiers to kill you. You must stop them before they interrupt your mission!'

Stop the conscripted before they kill you!

Stop the conscripted before they kill you 0/3 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: The conscripted are going to kill you if you do not put fear into their hearts. Kill a few of them to send the message that you will not be bullied!

Kill any conscripted mobs (map). (Note: Despite what task text might lead you to believe, you are not auto-aggro'd by anything here.)

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head cackles wildly.

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head says, 'Yes, it was them or you! These soulless brutes are not worth the air they breathe!'

You shake your head feverishly and your vision clears. What sense does it make that this soul is urging you to kill its former allies and family? - No, clearly some other force is at work here. Put an end to one of the clergy!

Put a member of the clergy to rest 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: A strange realization has dawned on you... Why would this still living soul want you to murder its siblings and family? Weren't the citizens of the Forsaken Village made up of escaped slaves and abandoned worshipers? Something is clearly amiss. Slay one of the clergy to see if you can gather any evidence to clear the air.

Kill one of "an impassive clergyman" or "a calculating overseer" or "a ruthless overseer" (overseers in the arena; clergymen in the Silent Hall).

Leave the Underground City 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: Killing the clergyman has caused the screaming head to go berserk! Get out of the city at once so it will stop attacking you.

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head emits an earsplitting wail and begins viciously biting your arm! Get out of the city immediately!

From here, you will take 5% hp damage per tick until you get out of the city.

The Screaming Severed Alaran Head bites YOU for _____ points of damage.
The Screaming Severed Alaran Head bites YOU for _____ points of damage.
The Screaming Severed Alaran Head bites YOU for _____ points of damage.

As you leave the Underground City the Screaming Severed Alaran Head ceases its assault on you. You should go speak to Harbinger Glask about this.

Return to Harbinger Glask 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: Return to Harbinger Glask and see what she has to say about this possessed head.

    You say, 'Hail, Harbinger Glask'

Harbinger Glask stares at you with a look of utter contempt. She lets nearly a minute pass before speaking, 'Our spies report that a recently recruited soldier, under direct orders from our party, made their way into the city and attended a sermon without incident. This solider THEN proceeded to waltz back into the city with a severed head, still dripping blood, and massacre a number of the believers in the temple. On a whim this soldier THEN decided to make their way through the halls and kill a number of their defenseless slaves. Though the best part of this story, the very best part is where this soldier assassinated one of the highest ranking clergymen in the city and then ran around like a Thule-damned lunatic screaming until they were out of sight. Now tell me, what in our god's name possessed you to do this? Please enlighten me before I have you put to death!'

Hand the Screaming Severed Alaran Head over to Glask 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

Task Window Says: Hand the possessed Screaming Severed Alaran Head over to Glask to prove that your story to be true!

Harbinger Glask holds up the bleeding Alaran head and stares at it as it continues to scream loudly. She looks into your eyes and sees your fear before looking back at the head. You stare at the dripping hunk of flesh and a cold chill runs down your spine as you realize that the head has been a lifeless hunk of meat the entire time! Glask smiles, 'I thought it strange that such a reputable member of our ranks would simply lose their mind on a scale as grand as this... No, something else is at play here, manipulating you and perhaps the rest of us as well. It is time we put our diplomatic ties to the test with these 'believers'...

The realization that some greater force has been manipulating you has prompted Harbinger Glask to seek more direct measures in dealing with these Alarans. You have a job to do...

Your faction standing with Harbingers of Thule got better.

I killed mobs with "conscripted" in their names and did not get any updates, didn't matter where but none of them updated. No thralls on track so that must be the word for "in thrall to a higher being". I finally got updates by killing the "soulless attendees" . Hope this helps.

I couldn't find any mobs on track or on the mob list here called (a) subjugated thrall nor could I find them in the arena.

    1. Don't bother with the "an impassive clergyman' to finish this up. They cast this idiotic extended (>30 second) stun frequently on a random group member. The overseers in the arena were much easier.

    2. Once you kill the overseer, the heads begins to 'bite' you for 3.1k every tick until you exit the city. My merc kept casting a group HoT so I barely noticed.
