You say, 'Hail, Sheriff Roglio'

Sheriff Roglio says 'Hail, ______! Stand tall whenever you are speaking to the Sheriff of Rivervale. I command the warriors of this vale. If you are not a deputy, then please leave these halls.'

You say, 'What danger?'

Sheriff Roglio says 'What danger?!! You must be new to the community. The goblins of Clan Runnyeye have been scaling our wall somehow. You must join our forces in exterminating every one of those beasts. Your wages are earned with every four bloody goblin warbead necklaces you return to me. Now be off and fight the good fight.'

dropped for me today off "a goblin warrior" which wasn't listed. I expect there are more goblin types that drop these as well (list is currently 2 mobs long) which is encouraging to those questing these.

Edit: was not able to do the quest turn in today at "apprehensively".

I did the turn-in, but even at "amiable," he says I need to do more to prove myself.

Still, I got the faction improvements. However, I did not get the food items.

Updated, thanks.

Odd on the letting you do the turn in but not fully rewarding you.

My Barbarian Berserker of Rallos Zek, that was judged amiably by Sheriff Roglio, was told: “Please come back when you have proven yourself more and I may have a task for you.” I turned in 4 Runnyeye Warbeads and did receive the documented faction adjustments, experience, 7 silver coins, 5 x Bixie Berry Buns, and 1 x Tagglefoot Tingle Drink. I also received this completion dialogue, “Good work, Deputy Vargnar! We shall soon rid our countryside of the goblin threat. Here are your wages. Eat well tonight!”

So it seems that his initial dialogue is incorrect at amiable faction.

unproven, but I am estimating the actual faction hit for turing in 4 beads at 12 points. Due to working other factions, I lowered guardians slightly. 36 points worth. coming here it took 3 tasks to re-max faction. that works out to 12 points a task. but the lowering of it by 36 is at this time an extrapolation based upon assumptions

You receive 8 silver from Sheriff Roglio.

(and three Tagglefood Tingle Drink, and one Bixie Berry Buns)

Notice if someone has turned in three Runnyeye Warbeads, you will get the exp and faction if you turn in only the last one.
Like many many other quest NPC's, Sheriff Roglio remembers what people has given him but not who did it. So just give him one at a time if you want to know how many warbeads someone else has given him before you.

faction up
# Oct 25 2004 at 10:09 PM Rating: Decent
good way to get your faction up is to buy like 4-6 backpacks of bandages and give them to joogl honeybugger in misty thicket. he is in the southeast corner of the zone and hand them to him 4 at a time unstacked. only for good races though. you cant be kos to RV but im pretty sure u can be dubious to them to do quest. just takes more bandages the more faction u need. no experience from this quest though. this worked out good for me cuz i am a lvl 35 druid who wanted the ring and didnt need the exp anyways
Still can't get the quest
# Sep 10 2003 at 10:39 AM Rating: Default
I'm a halfling druid, lvl 8 now, never left the thicket, have not done anything to mess up my factions, got at least 25 beads sitting in the bank to give to the sherriff but he's still telling me to come back when I've proved myself. I'm new to Povar so I'm not twinked, doing the newbie quests for gear. I'm almost sure my wood elf druid and human ranger on rodcet nife were able to turn in beads long before lvl 8. Any ideas???
RE: Still can't get the quest
# Sep 10 2003 at 10:54 AM Rating: Default
OK, very strange; after I posted this, I decided to try handing one in anyway, based on the post below that said that someone got exp after turning in one. I did that, and got the exp as the other guy did. Hailed the sherriff again, and still said "return when you've proved yourself..." or whatever. Handed in another one and nothing happened, so I decided to risk three to make the usual four, and sure enough I got the faction and exp. Didn't hail him again until after I'd turned in my 3+ packs worth, kept getting exp and faction (about 3 yellow bulbs for 7 sets of 4 at lvl 8), but when I hailed him after turning in what I had, he did give the quest phrase. Maybe there's some quirk with a min lvl needed to start the quest, but he'll still take the beads?? Who knows, but that was bizarre.
Me, or the game?
# Jun 04 2003 at 2:44 PM Rating: Decent
I talked to the sheriff in RV, and he said to come back once I had proven myself. I gave him a Runnyeye war beads any way, and I still got XP. I tried to give him another, but he kept them and said nothing. I zoned and came back and did like I did before, yet he still said nothing and kept them. Did anyone else have this problem?

I did this quest with my halfling druid. It takes a long time and lots of warbeads & deathfist slashed belts combined. On the warbeards you have to hand them in 4 at a time to the sheriff or he'll take them and ignore you, the belts can be handed in singly to Deputy Budo at the Wall. Took me roughly 200 warbeads and 50 belts, which means around 300 goblins and over a 100 orcs to complete this - on the other hand, I got xp pretty much right to the end, leveled through to about lvl 12. The squad ring you end up with is well worth the time and effort.

with my 15 elf ranger, I got REALLY bored and started hunting gobbies. I figured the best thing to do with the necklaces would be to give them to my lvl 4 hlf druid. (I also gave him the harder to find parts of the bug quest) BAM!!! lvl 8:
4 lvls, minimal time, FINALLY CAN MED!!! love this quest

yeah I'm a lvl 11 Half elf ranger and was able to do this quest right away, no faction trouble or anything for some reason. He's been giving me decent xp and about 8-10 silver plus water and buns each time. Good quest and a nice bonus since I'd be killing goblins anyways.

Fun + Faction
# Apr 01 2002 at 10:30 PM Rating: Good
Im a level 36 druid currently. I was bored one day and wanted to raise my faction a bit with the old hometown of Rivervale, so I started doing this quest. I feel I must tell about this cause what I did was incredibly fun. I would go to each gobby camp and attack each gobby once to get them aggroed, then I would walk (sow off) to the next gobby camp, then the last camp repeating the process the whole way through. I would then walk to the RunnyEye guards. I would stand inbetween them with about 20 gobbies surrounding me and attacking me (from the camps).

This is the fun part. I then cast "Tremor" (AoE around caster that does dmg upwards of 130 or so I believe). I would then get about 20 messages of increased faction as all the gobbies would die. Then it was easy looting to just pick up the beads and run into town. Hehe, if you have Tremor (29 or 34 I dont remember) then this is a FUN way to gain faction.

You can also turn in Runnyeye Warbeads at the Warrior Guild in Kaladim. Turn them into Byzar Bloodforge for XP, items (usually patchwork armor), money (I got 15 silver), and faction hits.

This might be a glitch, considering that Kaladim is 1 1/2 continents away from Rivervale. CrushBone belts and pads can be turned into the Warr guild in Kaladim though. Great XP and money on those.

#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 07 2001 at 5:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I hear what everyones saying about this quest, I did not recieve my ring til almost level 16. I turned in countless numbers of beads, killed tons of goblins, and killed Mooto about 6 times. Before I knew anything about faction I happen to run across Gunrich a few times(of course thinking he was bad, I smoked him a few times) I think it's safe to say that hurt me pretty bad and made alot more work for me, But at last I've got it! So remember Newbies, NEVER KILL GUNRICH, HE IS GOOD! -Everett Halfling warrior FeninRO server

Your faction must be amiable to do this quest. indifferent will not work. try killing bixies or goblins to raise your faction. be prepaired for it to take a while too as I have killed dozens of goblins with no faction change.
Halfling
# Jul 09 2001 at 2:08 PM Rating: Default
The quest is best if you are a halfling, that way your faction is already up pretty high. Take it from me i tried many races, Halfling is the "easiest"
I got my ring.

I am a lvl 19 Halfling Druid. I started the Squad Ring quest in earnest Friday morning, and finished it Sunday evening. I discovered a few "secrets" that may help in getting the Squad Ring, which is +5 CHA and has one 80+ HP Heal charge (rechargeable at the RV Cleric guild and already discussed in other posts). This is how I did it; there are other ways, which I encourage you to explore before deciding whether and how to pursue the Squad Ring. This post is meant to convey the rather significant effort I needed when using the Runnyeye Warbeads method to perform the Quest. YMMV.

First, the Squad Ring was only given to me after I raised my faction above "considers you an Ally". That is, after turning in a few thousand Runnyeye Warbeads (probably less, but that's what it seemed like) I conned Marshall Ghobber on the first floor of the bank, who considered me an ally, but who still wouldn't give me a ring; "continue your good work and we'll speak later". So I continued to build additional faction. Be sure to con Ghobber and ask "am i one with the wall" each time after you turn in beads. Unless you start out with a lot (and I mean a LOT) of faction, and you choose to raise faction by other means than killing gobs in Misty, you will be sick of gobs by the time you get enough faction for your ring and will want to complete the quest as soon as possible by not turning in any more beads than absolutely necessary.

I built faction by killing gobs (dozens, scores, hundreds, I lost count) in the camps at the West extreme of Misty Thicket, in addition to the ones I had killed incidentally at lower levels. Gobs will generally drop "Runnyeye Warbeads". They will occasionally also drop look-alikes called "Shattered Warbeads" and a "Bead Necklace", as explained in the Quest description. Only the Runnyeye Warbeads gain faction when you turn them in; destroy the others, unless you know of a use for them. I turned in all of my beads to the Sheriff on the top floor of the bank; it may also be possible to turn them into Deputy Budo in one of the towers to the left of the opening in the wall, but I didn't try this as I was bound in RV, and only stopped hunting to gate back when all my slots were full in order to sell, turn in beads, and bank.

On the run back to Misty from RV I would pick off any spiderlings or bats in my path. One of my "boxes" (see below) was a large sewing kit, which allowed me to process the spiderling silks into stackable items; the sewing kit also doubles as a large box for purposes of inventory. The bats drop batwings, which are also stackable; I sold one stack I collected in this manner for 20pp. Eventually, I gave up on this as a waste of time; I wanted to finish the quest before I actually became serious about slitting my wrists out of frustration.

Every slot in my inventory had some kind of container. The beads don't stack, so you will need lots of slots to minimize the time spent turning in beads. The gobs also drop quite a bit of mostly non-stackable loot; this adds up given the quantities of gobs I had to kill. Loot a container? Swap it, drop it, destroy it, or give it away, unless you have an open primary slot. I was constantly overburdened, but still managed to drop the gobs easily with snare and melee. This is also a great opportunity to skill up foraging if you have it, as you will seldom be distracted enough not to notice that the button has recycled and can be clicked again.

When you successfully turn in beads in sets of 4 to the Sheriff, you will get a bunch of "faction raised" messages, a flourish of trumpets will play, the Sheriff will give you some coin and rations, and you will gain experience. I would just stand there and dump all the beads in my inventory 4 at a time. I had just dinged 19 when I started the Quest, and by the time I got my ring I was half-way to 20. (Note: when you receive the ring, you also take a faction hit, so if you want another ring, you have your work cut out for you.) While half a level in about 20+ hours of play time isn't great, it was totally risk-free (ignoring the opportunity cost), my foraging is way up, as is my tailoring, and I easily made about 40-50 plat from sales. And best of all ....

I got my ring.
I lied - RE: I got my ring.
# Jun 05 2001 at 10:53 AM Rating: Default
The ring I got is NOT CHA+5 :-(. That must be the one that drops off the Deputies. Mine does have the Heal charge as stated.

I guess if I want to be charismatic, I'll just have to shell out the plat for one of Dale Carnegie's books or courses.
