This quest begins with Astaed Wemor in the Temple of Life of North Qeynos. You will need to be at least Amiable (150) to Priests of Life.

A summary:

- Give Kizzie Mintopp three honeycombs and 30 gold pieces for the Honey Jum.

- Take the Honey Jum to Astaed Wemor to receive a potion.

- Take the potion to Lempeck Hargrim of West Karana and receive a NO DROP Rusty Scythe in return.

- Take the Rusty Scythe to Astaed Wemor for the Shining Star of Light.

In detail:

You say, 'Hail, Astaed Wemor'

Astaed Wemor says 'Greetings. I am Astaed Wemor of the Paladins of the Temple of Life. We are the defenders of the all-giving Prime Healer. Are you [here to pray] or are you [here to assist the temple]?'

You say, 'I am here to assist the temple'

Astaed Wemor says 'Good. There are a few in the congregation who require assistance. Will you be [traveling afar] or are you [staying close to Qeynos]?'

You say, 'I will be traveling afar'

Astaed Wemor says 'Then outfit yourself well. We will require you to visit Rivervale, the village of the halflings. There you shall find an herb merchant named Kizzie Mintopp. She has an ingredient we require. Tell her you are from the Temple of Life.'

Find Kizzie Mintopp in Rivervale and tell her you're from the Temple of Life.

You say, 'Hail, Kizzie Mintopp'

Kizzie Mintopp says 'Enough talk there, chatterbox. You buy lots of herbs. I gotta make a living, not more friends.'

You say, 'I am from the Temple of Life'

Kizzie Mintopp says 'Oh, yes.. They always come for Kizzie's [honey jum]. They should have sent you next week. There is a [problem].'

You say, 'What honey jum?'

Kizzie Mintopp says 'It's a secret!! I get the honeycombs and combine them with the secret sauce and..presto.. honey jum!! It is used by only the wisest as a component. And you can only get it from Kizzie. It is also good on batwing crunchies. If you like.. Kizzie can [make honey jum] for you?'

You say, 'Make honey jum for me'

Kizzie Mintopp says 'No, no, no!! You will not get honey jum until you give Kizzie three honeycombs and thirty gold coins. Honey jum is valuable. Kizzie raised the fee!! That is how it works.'

You say, 'What problem?'

Kizzie Mintopp says 'You see.. Joogl Honeybugger is hurt. He usually collects the [Honeycombs]. Only he knows where to get them. I need the Honeycombs to make the Honey Jum. Go and speak with Joogl. He is at his burrow outside of Rivervale. He says he cannot work. Tell him you need the Honeycombs.'

Joogl Honeybugger is found in Misty Thicket...

You say, 'Hail, Joogl Honeybugger'

Joogl Honeybugger says 'Hello. I would shake your hand, but it would [hurt]. Ooooh! Owwy!'

You say, 'I need the honeycombs'

Joogl Honeybugger says 'If you're looking for the honeycombs, I don't have any right now. I have been unable to get any since I was attacked by the little [buggers]. I will tell you where to get some if you will only get me a bandage for my bites.'

You say, 'What buggers?'

Joogl Honeybugger says 'I was attacked by the bixies. They swarmed on me!! I think I got too near their queen. I need that honey to make a living! Get me a bandage and I will tell you where all their worker bees buzz around.'

Give him a bandage...

Joogl Honeybugger says 'Oh thank you, _____. If you are ever going to gather bixie honeycombs pray you do not run into the queen. The only way I know of collecting the honey is by intercepting the drones and taking the honeycombs they sometimes carry. Good luck !!'

Kizzie Mintopp says 'This is not all!! Kizzie says, three honeycombs and thirty gold coins!! Oooh!! They never listen.'

And then head back to Qeynos for the turn in:

Astaed Wemor says 'I pray to Rodcet Nife that you have made it back in time. Let's add a small amount of this honey jum to this and.. here is the potion. This potion must be taken to a sick member of the congregation. The man is Lempeck Hargrin. He lives in the west plains of Karana between the river and the crop fields. He is in dire need of this potion. He has an odd disease. We have tried everything to cure him and this is his last chance. Run to him.'

You say, 'Hail, Lempeck Hargrin'

Lempeck Hargrin says 'Gree.. .. tings. How are you? Don't get too close to me. I have come down with something bad.'
Lempeck Hargrin says 'Thank you!! I felt the madness nearing my brain, but now I feel much better. Please take this as thanks - it is all I have to donate to Astaed Wemor. Be sure he gets it. I shall thank Rodcet Nife every day for sending help.'

NOTE: Sometimes he goes crazy and attacks you at this point. This is most likely related to the potion you give him. The potion that identifies as "Potion of Disease Warding" is the one you want. If it identifies as anything else, it may get you attacked.

Bring the scythe back to Astaed.

Head back to Qeynos for the final turn in:

Astaed Wemor says 'It is good to know that we saved Lempeck. He has given us his scythe as a donation to the temple. We shall find a use for it. As for your fine work at preserving the life of another, I reward you with the Shining Star of Life. Should you ever desire more strength in battle, call upon it to give you strength, but let it be known that at battle's end, you shall feel weaker than before you called upon the power. Just for a short time. When the power is drained, go to our temple storehouse and ask Whysia to [recharge the Shining Star of Life]. Go and serve life.'

The quest is broken IMO cause the SSoL can get rid of those new CURSE type spells from Luclin. If you got one of these be happy. !

Ok I have only done this quest once, but it worked for me because I took the advice of another chat board...if I ever find the name of the one I was on I will put up a post with the link on there, but anyways...

Bind yourself right in front of Lempek, run to the Temple of Life, and then gate back when you get the potion. Yes, I realize that you have to wait until 14 and that Pally's cannot do this, but the pallys and the clerics who need a magic weapon now for some reason will just have to try your luck running.

This worked for me, and I would be curious to see if it works for others, holding true that the potion has a "time limit" effect and may go bad if you don't get it to him quick.
Lots of luck

If you have to keep giving this guy honeyjums until he gives you the right potion, this is going to take forever. I tried buying the honeyjum from Mizzie or whatever her name is and got one, no problem, but when I tried to get another, she took my honeycombs and gold, but I still had only one honeyjum. I tried putting my honeyjum in the bank, thinking I could not carry more than one at a time and went back to try again. Honeycombs and gold, and still, no more honeyjum. It seems not only can't you carry more than one honeyjum at a time, you can't even OWN more than one at a time. If you go all the way to Qeynos from Rivervale and he gives you the wrong potion, it's back to Rivervale for you to get another honeyjum and try again. I think VI did this at the same time they raised the price from 5 gp to 30 gp, just to break our backs by making us go back to Rivervale everytime we use up our one honeyjum.

If you look at the Honeyjum you will see it is LORE.

so, no, you can't own more than one at a time. that's what lore means.

Of course, academic at the moment since no one seems able to find Astaed Wemor.
WHERE IS HE

All right... here's the meat, I as well can't find the dirty bugger named Astaed Wemore. I have even gone as far as petitioning (with no reply.)

I spent about 3 days straight just getting the honey jum (it's hard to get through the high hold pass when you are level 4)

if anyone knows where or what happened with him, please post here!

Someone please help me! I Can't find the guy who gives the quest (Astaed Wemor). I know the temple of life isn't very big, but can someone please specify where he is? I looked by where his screenshot was taken but I cant seem to find him. He is not on track. Does he spawn between hours?

A guide said he may reapear for a "Search for Astaed" quest but has been removed as a regular spawn in the Temple. He used to spawn where the wood elf spawns off to the left as you enter.

/shrug :(

PS I have already got the Jumjum when i found out about him not spawning /cry

I have tried this quest twice with kindly faction. The first time was at night and I took the time to have the potion identified, and it identified as the disease warding potion. Lempeck attacked and killed me at lvl 8. The second time I ran straight to Lempeck with sow during the day and was attacked. So, this makes me think this is a random quest. If I can run directly to him with sow and still not get there in time....
Lempeck is on a timer; start quest at 8am
# Aug 26 2001 at 1:16 AM Rating: Default
I did this quest 24 Aug. At 8am, turned in honey jum, got a Prime Healer Potion. Ran out to WK, to the 2nd guard tower, and headed south toward the river, following the buildings....and ran into Lempeck. He was out walking the fields! Followed him, tried to give him the potion, the trade wouldn't go through. Tried to hail, was ignored. So I just keep following him. Suddenly, he takes off running south. I follow him to the barn, where I have seen him before, holed up inside. I go inside, give the potion. He thanks me (I don't have the exact words) saying he had felt the buildup of something in his brain, but that, due to the blessed oil, he was all better. Got rusty scythe.

My best guess is that if you give Lempeck the potion before he goes completely insane, you are safe, but if you are too late, he will attack. (I'm not going to check that last one.)

Some changes
# Jul 20 2001 at 9:01 PM Rating: Decent
I did this today and there are some changes I think.

The right potion for him is named: The Prime healer potion

The wrong potion for him is named: The Prime healer potion

See where I am going? ;-)

The first potion I gave him (yes, it was the wrong one) made him attack me, he conned yellow to me (19 PAL), but I managed to kill him. So I went back to Rivervale to get another honey jum. Got the jum, went back to Qeynos, got another "Prime Healer Potion". Drat! I thought and made the way back to honeycomb hunting...

When I got the next honey jum, I remembered that the potion is a lore item and that I maybe waste a jum by giving Astead the jum and getting nothing in return. I was lucky to get a SOW, so I decided to give it to him and to run. (Because he gives you faction, even if it is the wrong potion)

I gave him the potion, ran like hell, a few miles away I recognized he wasn't chasing me. I read his lines thanking me, checked my inventory, saw the scyth and was totally confused.

So, you can not tell by the name of the potion if you have the right or the wrong one. (Or maybe he needs two of them?)

Anyway, I died so often on the run, spend many pp for all the stuff and all that for a 6 28 1hb.

Why, you ask? I asked that myself... ;-)

Safe travels and happy hunting

hope its useful for all of those people out there looking for this guy, and as a side note there isn't a timer on the potion for the quest but i beleive from other posts I have read about what time to give the cure to him.

My High Elf Paladin, Barouk, recently completed this quest. I started at Level 4 and completed at level 7. It took approximately 15 hours because of the time required to raise my faction with the Priests of Life in Qeynos.

The journey began after a kind hafling provided me with a suit of leather armor that he said would look great on a paladin high elf and it does! A ranger also gave me a finesteel warhammer while I was hunting at the edge of Butcherblock. In addition, I bought myself a longsword at auction after selling a couple of stacks of bone chips and bat wings.

My trip from Felwithe to the ButcherBlock boat was relatively uneventful. I died once when an aqua goblin wizard ran down the path near the docks and zapped me once (with only 113 hp that is all it took!).

Once in Freeport, I got a bind at the West Freeport gate and ventured off through the East and West Commonlands. I stayed to the north wall through both zones. I spent the night at the edge of the Kith Forest and then ran through it after 8 am. Once in Rivervale, I found a bind and then hunted in the Misty Forest for the bixie drones that dropped the three honeycombs I needed. I took the three honeycombs and 30 gold to Kizzie Mintopp in Rivervale. She is in one of the hafling homes built into the hills. It is the second or third door to the left of the Misty Forest Tunnel as you look at the entrance. She gave me a vase to take to Astaed Wemer at the temple of Life in Qeynos.

The run through High pass got me killed once. You really need an SOW and inviz or camoflauge cast on you to get past the orcs to the High Keep and then the goblins from the High Keep to EAst Karana. The second time, I got bound at the entrance to the High Keep and then scurried past the goblin shaman and wizards that haunt the path to East Karana. East Karana is a long zone with a winding path out of the mountains. Lions run up and down the path and I kept to the edge of the wall. Once the path enters the plains of East Karana, I had to avoid the roaming lions and huge flying griffons. I made it to the bridge to North Karana and then headed southwest avoiding more lions, wolfs, and griffons. Once I hit the river, I headed west practicing my swimming skills along the way to West Karana. West Karana is a huge zone and I followed the river bank west for what seemed like forever. Once I reached the barbarian fishing post, I turned north and followed the west wall of the mountains until I found the gorge path heading west to Qeynos hills. I had been warned to watch out for lions running down the path and the occasional werewolf that spawns right at the zone to Qeynos Hills. Once in Qeynos Hills, I followed the path south from the tower to a milestone and then south again to Qeynos.

Once in Qeynos (really north Qeynos), I got bound at the Qeynos Gate and then found the temple of Life. This is where the reality of faction hit me right in the face. Astaed Wemer conned indifferent to me. Not only Astaed, but the priestess of the Temple (Caulria or Jahnda) must con amiable to you for Astaed to give you the quest and then accept the vase that you receive from Kizzie.

I spent three long RL nights running around the Qeynos Hills and West Karana to raise my faction. One way to raise it is to give two skeleton bone chips at a time to Lashun Novashine. Lashun hangs around the temple of life and then wanders North Qeynos and the open grounds outside the Qeynos gates. He will also accept 2 gold pieces at a time. I killed skellies and gave him almost 60 bones chips. I also talked to Nomsoe Jusagta and if you say "I will deliver the flask", he will give you a flask to take to Brother Estle in West Karana. Brother Estle can be found either on the path as you leave the gorge headed east in West Karana or next to one of the village buildings that are north of the path that exits the gorge. Give the flask to Brother Estle and he gives you prayer beads that must be taken to Priestess Jahnda inside the temple of Life. You enter the inside of the temple by walking up the path in the middle of the lake and then walking into the blue translucent pyramid. You exit the inside of the temple by walking into any of the blue bands along the walls.

I made by fifth, sixth, and seventh levels in Qeynos Hills hunting bats, large bats, giant bats, and skeletons. Once I got to the sixth level, I hunted the rabid wolves. They yield diseased pelts that can be turned into Priestess Caulria for faction with the priests.

After turning level 7 and finding three rabid wolf pets, I finally had amiable faction with the priests AND Astaed and got the potion. It was 8 pm when I got it and I hightailed it to Lempeck Hargrin. Lempeck is in a barn in WK at about -5300 (East/WEst). He conned indifferent to me and complained that he was sick. I gave him the potion and he promplty attacked me! Had to start the quest over by running back to Misty Thicket. Took over two hours to run there, hunt for bixies, make the exchange, and head back to Qeynos while avoiding gnoll shamans, lions, wolfs, griffons, and anything that spawns at night in Kithcor Forest!

This time I waited til 8 am, got an SOW, and then gave Astaed Wemer the vase. He gave me the potion and off to Lempeck I went. Worked like a charm; Lempeck conned amiable before I handed him the potion. He gave me a rusty scythe which I returned to Astaed for the prized Shining Star of Light. A very long quest but I'm glad I did it. This is a magic weapon and the cleanse effect should come in handy against snakes and other creatures that cast poisons on you.

May the Great Mother heap mana and blessings on you for your next hunt!

I love this quest! Have done it successfully twice now, and will probably keep doing it since I travel from freeport to qeynos quite often, and misty thicket is only a minor detour. I have a lvl 14 bard, and my charismatic song has helped with the faction, so I don't know how high your faction must be with the temple of life to complete the quest without the song. I know that after having completed the quest twice, I am still not offered the quest unless I play my little tune for the NPC at the temple.

I was attacked once by lempeck when i gave him the potion before 11AM, so take that message about the time very seriously. Worked flawlessly the other two times. The mace sells for 30-40pp, which is not a bad sum. If you are lazy you can buy the honeycombs in misty thicket for 1pp per.

Since im a bard i cant use the mace, but i created a dwarven cleric to check it out. It procs about 2-3 times per fight on average. the cleanse effect is nice when fighting stuff in desert of ro like snakes and tarans. I have been grouping with a paladin, and he likes to use it when i am not online so that he can rid himself of disease.

I still get stunned in fights when using this weapon, I read somewhere that you could not get stunned when actively fighting with it. That has not been the case for me.

As far as the charges go, I have given the star to whysia in the temple storehouse, along with 20gp and she supposedly "recharged it", but I do not notice any charges. I also do not think I have seen the complete heal effect that some people have mentioned procs as a very rare proc. The reason I am not sure is because I did get a complete heal in a fight once, but I was lvl 2, and it may have been a the kind stranger who helped me finish the fight with a light healing spell.

All in all I would not go to any great lengths to aquire this weapon. It makes a nice diversion on a trip from freeport to qeynos for a bard, but only do it if you have a high faction with the temple of life, or can raise your faction with them relatively easily. the stats on the mace are decent for lvl 1-10, but after that you will probably have something better. Clerics and paladins will not need the cleanse effect as much as other classes... but only clerics and paladins can use. since clerics pretty much stop their primary melee at 12-14, and paladins have a better weapon by then, you will only be able to sell it to twinks :)

As an aside, to the person who mentioned the PGT, I have seen them sell from 70-120pp on vazaelle in the freeport tunnel. The amount of time it takes to camp in highpass hold before you get the PGT you could run this quest a couple of times and buy yourself a PGT from the proceeds (since it is lore you will have to sell each time you finish.

Although the quest does not require fighting beyond the abilities of a lvl 1, the 30gp that you must cough up for the honey jum, probably places it out of the reach of any lvl 1 char I have ever played... good luck.

I did this quest twice, first time I hailed lempeck the second time I just gave to potion to him without hailing. The time I hailed him, he attacked, the second time he didn't. I'm pretty sure I just ran right there both times, and I know that Astead gives you text that you have to run right there and not tarry. So, I suspect that either the quest item is on a timer, and it's a pretty slim margin of error, or the Lempeck NPC distinguishes between giving him the potion and giving him the potion subsiquent to a recent hail (hailing him first meaning you 'took too long' and he attacks).
Success or No Success, that is the question

I have tried this quest 5 times now. Twice Lempeck tried to kill me, and three times he gave up the sythe with no trouble. The common theme as far as I can tell is that both times he tried to kill me, I had done a little side hunting along the way while taking the potion to Lempeck. The three successful times, I ran straight from Qeynos to Lempeck without stopping.
Just a thought, but perhaps there is a time limit on the potion.

If anyone has noticed anything simular, please post.

Hope this helps, and Good Hunting to all.

I'm really disappointed by this quest - I dont mind running half way across the continent to get an item but it had better work when I run back again!! I tried the potion on Lempeck and, surprise, surprise, he attacked me. Managed to get to QH zone in safety but I need to start back in Rivervale again to get a the jumjum lore item. Once I hand this to the pally in Qeynos, there is no way for me to tell whether this is ok item (lvl16 casters arent always on hand to identify), and if it is not then I have to do the whole thing again!! Can this be right?

If there is some storyline element why the potion is the wrong one sometimes then fine, but at least make it so that Lempeck does not attack - losing xp is not fair when you have no control over the item you get after all your running about. The item you get looks quite good but this is really just pot luck - I spoke to a guide at the time and he said that all quests should work - why is this an exception or am I missing something obvious?

My sentiments exactly. This is hands down the most frustrating quest I have ever done. I ran from Freeport to Qeynos with a 4th lvl Pally on Sullon Zek with no SOW. Got there, and had to work on faction forever. Finally got the potion and promptly get killed.

The piranha quest in North Freeport gives you a potion of disease warding 50% of the time. Could someone try and see if that potion would work to get the rusty scythe fm Lempeck? Just a thought.

ok all you pallys may thing this weapon sucks......your right it isn't urber but it does have and urber effect. imagine dueling a necro(this is a true story ia m going to tell you by the way). now many would say no way i am not dueling that doting, pet casting SoB. and you have a good reason necros are hard to duel, However with the right tactics and this weapon it is so easy. ok i ma lvl 35 and yesterday i decided i was going to practice my pvp. i dueled many classes and doing quit well. then a necro came up to me made a rude gester and laughed :(. i was angry at this point and so returned the gesture. he challenged me to a duel. now i just recently did this quest to help with soulfire faction and get me a 1hb since i am a poor poor man :P, so it was still in my inventory. I accepted the duel, feared his pet, and FoL the necro at this point i had about 4 dots on me. i pulled out this little baby and began to hit the necro while continueally blinding, stuning and rooting him, about the time i was at half life it proced, now i had done very little damage to the necro but his main weapon was now gone...i was dot clear. i switched to my wurmslayer and within about 10 seconds the necro was lieing at my feet about to die. i told him i would be kind and save him from his death bed if he agreed to zone. he agreed so i throw out heal. at this time the pet had come back and i playfully rooted and nuked it several times. While i was doing this the necro decided to break his oath and casted 4 more dots on me. enraged i ran at the necro and killed him for his betrail, poof went the pet but i still had dots on me i used loh and ran out and be gan killing puma's and asps finally again this baby procced and i was saved. the necro didn't know what hit im. as you see my point it does have a use and even though it is not as good as some higher lvl items it does work great :)
Lycanthrope

Lempeck Hargrim is suffering from Lycanthropy (werewolf). If you talk to him, he'll say he has a disease, but if you ask him "Do you need help?" he'll mention that he hadn't felt right since he was bitten by the wolf. As for the attacking, there are two reasons: 1) Listed above, the potion needs to be correct. 2) Do NOT give him the potion at night or he will attack! He will say it's too late and now he has to kill you. Give it to him during the day and you will get the scythe.

So is he the other werewolf? if so, now i know where to look at the sun is starting to go down. Hopefully he will drop the skin. I've hunted the one that spawns at the entrance to qhills forever and he never drops the skin
