Veil of Alaris Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This solo task begins with Kolain in Windsong Sanctuary, located at about 2125, 1165, -37 (the northwestern part of the inner area).

Pre-requisites for requesting the task:
- No tasks
- 81 Skill Level in Alaran

You say, 'Hail, Kolain'

Kolain says, in Alaran, 'Do not fear me, stranger. I care not about who you are or where you are from. I only care about my [duty] in this life, and it has been put on hold due to unfortunate circumstances.'

You say, 'Your duty?'

Kolain says, in Alaran, 'It is my job and my calling to play music that soothes the chaotic spirits of the wind. I cannot do that without my flute however. I awoke this morning and my flute was missing. Without it, the spirits of the wind will be in turmoil. I must get my flute [back]!'

You say, 'Get it back?'

Kolain says, in Alaran, 'You would help me? Perhaps the Norrathians are not as unseemly as others say. I know not where it could be, but perhaps if you spoke with the spirits of the wind, you could get some clues. The spirits see all.'

You have been assigned the task 'Winds of Change'.

Kolain has asked you to help recover the Flute of Calming that is used to calm the spirits of the wind.

Explore the northwest edge of Windsong Sanctuary for a clue about the first piece of the Flute of Calming.

NOTE: The items in this task are not pre-lootable by normal means (it won't automatically update), but it's been reported the steps will update if you hand the pre-looted items to an NPC (who will in turn, give it back).

Search the northwest edge of Windsong for a clue about the first piece of the missing flute 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

This step updates in the extreme northwest part of Windsong, at about 3260, 1050, -26.

A gust of wind swirls around you. A wispy voice echoes in your mind. 'You seek to reconstruct the Flute of Calming. Yesss. Thisss must be done. I broke the flute into three piecessss in a fit of rage. I am not proud of thisss. Recover the piecessss. The spirits of wind need its calming melodiessssss. The first piece has fallen from Windsong to the Pillarsss of Alra below. You must get it back.'

Obtain the first piece of the Windsong flute from the Pillars of Alra 0/1 (ALL)

Task Window Says: The first piece of the Flute of Calming has fallen to the ground below Windsong Sanctuary in the Pillars of Alra.

Find "First Piece of the Flute of Calming" as a ground spawn in the Pillars of Alra. It spawns at about -980, 600, 1 (on the ground level, just southwest of the ramp leading up to the central island).

Search the northeast edge of Windsong for a clue about the second piece of the missing flute 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Task Window Says: Explore the northeast edge of Windsong Sanctuary for a clue about the second piece of the Flute of Calming.

This step updates in the extreme northeast boundary of Windsong (about 3230, -1275, -25).

A gust of wind swirls around you. A wispy voice echoes in your mind. 'The second piece of the Flute of Calming has fallen into the handssss of the Swinetor below the Resplendent Temple. They do not know the value of the item they possesssss, thinking it junk. Get it back for ussss.'

Obtain the second piece of the Windsong flute from a swinetor in the Resplendent Temple 0/1 (ALL)

Task Window Says: The second piece of the Flute of Calming is now in possession of the Swinetor below the Resplendent Temple.

This is a random drop off Ulork and Piq`a Swinetor mobs in the "In-Between" (underground caves) of the Resplendent Temple.

Search the south edge of Windsong for a clue about the third piece of the missing flute 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

This step updates in the south-central part of Windsong (about -150, 20, -40).

A gust of wind swirls around you. A wispy voice echoes in your mind. 'The third piece of the Flute of Calming has been taken by the filqua in Windsong Sanctuary. Find the filqua that has the piece and get it back.'

Obtain the third piece of the Windsong flute from a filqua in Windsong 0/1 (ALL)

Task Window Says: The third, and final piece of the Flute of Calming has been stolen by the filqua in Windsong Sanctuary.

This is a random drop from filquas in the inner area of Windsong.

Deliver the first piece of the Windsong flute to Kolain 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Deliver the second piece of the Windsong flute to Kolain 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Deliver the third piece of the Windsong flute to Kolain 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Speak with Kolain 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Be ready for a fight. Wisthir will go aggro about 20-25 seconds after the hail.

You say, 'Hail, Kolain'

Kolain says, in Alaran, 'You have done it! What happened? Why was the flute broken into pieces?'

Wisthir says, in Alaran, 'I can answer that. It was me. The music of the flute is so soothing. I want you to play only for me.'

Kolain says, in Alaran, 'But why? You know that the music I play is for all the spirits of the wind. I cannot play for you alone.'

Wisthir says, in Alaran, 'But I helped you recover the pieces and I am truly sorry for what I have done. Play the flute for me. Play only for me!'

Kolain says, in Alaran, 'I cannot do that, Wisthir. You know that. I am sorry.'

Wisthir says, in Alaran, 'The music must be played for me, and me alone!'

Kolain says, in Alaran, 'Help! You must defeat Wisthir! He has gone insane!'

Kill Wisthir 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

Wisthir hits for a max ~17,500.

Speak with Kolain 0/1 (Windsong Sanctuary)

You say, 'Hail, Kolain'

Kolain says, in Alaran, 'It is regrettable that Wisthir attacked us. Your assistance will allow me to play the flute once again however and calm the remaining spirits of the wind. I thank you for all you have done.'

Doesn't hit for 17,500. Hits no worse than other trash in the zone maybe 13,500.

The flutes were pre-lootable for me. The trick was once I got to that step in the mission I handed the corresponding flute to my mercenary who hands it back. This updates your task. Call it what you will but it is what it is.

It's the kind of step where you can put the item in a trade window with any NPC, hit cancel, and it will update as it falls back into your inventory.
