This group mission begins with "a shade" on the center island in the Pillars of Alra (20, 40, 667).

Note: This NPC may only visible if you've done all of the task's pre-requisites.

a shade continues staring at the stone shrine as it speaks, 'You have walked alir path and now your eyes are open to the [truth]?'

You say, 'The truth?'

a shade says, in Alaran, 'The truth surrounds us and yet evades the eyes of so many. Few are ever privileged enough to understand the reality around them. Even in death many will never see beyond the [grand deception].'

You say, 'What grand deception?'

a shade says, in Alaran, 'It should be no surprise by now that someone has been lying to you. You are not the first and will not be the last. It is in the nature of mortals to deceive, it is a selfishness that many will never outgrow. I do not condemn you for being the same. Though, if you are [willing] to reveal the truth, then I have an assignment for you. If you are not, I will not spite you for it, traveler...'

a shade says, in Alaran, 'Let me know when you are [ready] and I shall open your eyes to the truth that evades you...'

The mysterious shade stands alone at the shrine of Alra. There seems to be more to this place than you may have originally imagined. Let the shade know that you are 'ready' to see the hidden truth of the shrine.

You say, 'Hail, a shade'

a shade says, in Alaran, 'You stand witness to the true shrine of Alra, seeker.' The shade motions toward the statue, its previously pristine construction now lies as twisted remains. The figure nods mournfully, 'The facade, the grand deception, the lies that one stood upon these grounds have been wiped away. So too will you find with the [teachings] these factionalized sects have attempted to indoctrinate you with...''

You say, 'What teachings?'

a shade smiles, expressing a warm peacefulness as it speaks, 'What I ask of you is obedience, not compliance. I simply ask that you seek the truth for yourself... The upper castes of the Pillars are gathered together tonight to pay homage to their respective leaders. The teachings of Lrah, the great one, are far from the forefront of anyone's mind. The purveyors of deception, the readers of worthless [stones], the practitioners of torture, they are gathered while the lesser guard stands watch to keep outsiders away. Make your way to the source of each Pillar's power. I assure you that the answers you seek will be found within those halls...'

You say, 'What about the stones?'

a shade looks into your eyes, an expression of pained embarrassment passes the figure's visage, 'I am sorry, seeker... I stood upon these grounds as you made your first pledge. I watched as you walked the ancient paths in the crests of division. I saw the glimmer of hope in your eye as you carried the stones of these grounds to the purveyors of separation... I offer you this moment to atone, to see past the deception and lies. Even if you return from this unchanged, unwilling to part ways from your teachings, I shall not spite you...'

From here, the four "Lower the barrier..." steps open up. The next four sections listed below can be done in any order.



Lower the barrier in the Pillar of Light 0/9 (Pillars of Alra)

Task Window Says: Gain access to the lower hall of the Pillar of Light by eliminating the barrier sustainers.

Kill the nine sustainers in the entrance area of the Pillar of Light. These mobs appear to be aggro-linked in groups of three. "Stoic" mobs are mezzable, "timid" mobs are stunnable, and "lumbering" mobs are rootable/snareable. They each hit for a max ~13,000.

Upon killing the last of the nine:

The Pillar of Light shakes as its glowing barrier fades from sight!

Defeat the Pillar of Light's Mana Ward 0/1 (Pillars of Alra)

Task Window Says: Find what hides in the depths of Erion's mana pool.

Solinvitare P`Trenvell can be found in the basement of the Pillar of Light.

Solinvitare P`Trenvell begins radiating beautiful shades of pearl as it focuses its energy to purge the chamber of its newest unwelcomed guests.

Solinvitare hits for a max ~18,000. It casts "Grasp of Light", "Unwavering Gaze", and the emote-based "Blinding Luminosity":

a forlorn spirit looks confused and disoriented as it rises from the coalesced mana.

Escort the freed spirit to the Shrine of Alra 0/1 (Pillars of Alra)

"a forlorn spirit" appears and wanders up to the entrance of the tower. Tell it you'll "help" to get it moving (and be prepared for a fight a short time later).

You say, 'Hail, a forlorn spirit'

a forlorn spirit says, in Alaran, 'I... I cannot go alone... They will stop me... Please stranger, will you... [help] me escape?'

You say, 'We'll help!'

a forlorn spirit bows its head in thanks.

It wanders outside the pillar towards the walkway to the center. Shortly before reaching it, you'll be ambushed by 2x "an undying fragment of light" (hit for a max ~20,000).

a forlorn spirit looks hesitant as it draws away from the pillar.

a forlorn spirit freezes as the guardians of the pillar descend upon it!

an undying fragment of light roars furiously as it moves to intercept the escaping shade, 'Not even in death shall you escape!'

After the fragments are dead, the spirit walks to the Shrine.

a forlorn spirit calls out in an ethereal whisper, 'I thank you for releasing me, seekers... My story shall be yours when we reach the shrine of the great one...'

a forlorn spirit nods, 'We are close, stranger, very close...'

a forlorn spirit raises its arms to the sky and gives thanks, 'Blessings be upon the seekers who free us from the bonds of torment!'

You say, 'Hail, a forlorn spirit'

a forlorn spirit looks down to the small apparition before speaking, 'Al does not [remember] me... It is for the best... It is the 'purifiers' whom shall face the worst torment in their afterlife. The torture I have suffered pales in comparison to the wrath the great one will hold for slayers of innocents... Though perhaps this is not my end...'

You say, 'Remember you?'

a forlorn spirit turns away, 'The light blinds all to the foul truth of the sect... They... I...' The figure struggles for breath, '...To sacrifice my own child for the purity of our worship...' The figure shakes its head and returns looking toward the apparition...



Lower the barrier in the Pillar of the Arcane 0/9 (Pillars of Alra)

Task Window Says: Gain access to the lower hall of the Pillar of the Arcane by eliminating the barrier sustainers.

Kill the nine sustainers in the entrance area of the Pillar of the Arcane. These mobs appear to be aggro-linked in groups of three. "Stoic" mobs are mezzable, "timid" mobs are stunnable, and "lumbering" mobs are rootable/snareable.

Upon killing the last of the nine:

The Arcane Pillar shakes violently as its barrier is depleted.

Defeat the Pillar of the Arcane's Mana Ward 0/1 (Pillars of Alra)

Krillionovar Lodindral motions its hands in complex patterns as it conducts tendrils of raw mana around the room.

Krillionovar hits for a max ~18,000 and casts "Grasp of the Arcane" as well as an emote-based "Arcane Torrent":

a forgotten soul looks around the room, now realizing it has been freed from its prison. It struggles for a moment before moving to escape the Pillar.

Escort the freed spirit to the Shrine of Alra 0/1 (Pillars of Alra)

"a forgotten spirit" appears and wanders up to the entrance of the tower. Tell it you'll "help" to get it moving (and be prepared for a fight a short time later).

a forgotten soul looks panicked as it surveys the room, 'No... They will not allow this... You must [help] me escape the clutches of this accursed place!'

You say, 'We'll help you'

a forgotten soul looks around the room in terror before moving out the archway.

It wanders outside the pillar towards the walkway to the center. Shortly before reaching it, you'll be ambushed by 2x "an undying fragment of arcana". These mobs hit for a max ~20,000.

a forgotten soul looks hesitant as it draws away from the pillar.

an undying fragment of arcana roars furiously as it moves to intercept the escaping shade, 'Not even in death shall you escape!'

After the fragments are dead, the spirit walks to the Shrine:

a forgotten soul says, in Alaran, 'The 'harmony' that exists between the Pillars is not a product of complacence or chance...' The figure looks around before continuing, '...Despite this fact, fraternization outside of your sect for any outside the high-court is grounds for execution. Those who would commit the most heinous crime of bringing impurity to our bloodlines are left to the lightwards for torture... Even that fact is more respectable than what the monsters of the 'arcane' are responsible for...' The spirit lowers its head and sighs.'



Lower the barrier in the Pillar of the Black 0/9 (Pillars of Alra)

Task Window Says: Gain access to the lower hall of the Pillar of the Black by eliminating the barrier sustainers.

Kill the nine sustainers in the entrance area of the Pillar of the Black. These mobs appear to be aggro-linked in groups of three. "Stoic" mobs are mezzable, "timid" mobs are stunnable, and "lumbering" mobs are rootable/snareable.

Upon killing the last of the nine:

The Pillar of the Black shudders as its shadowy barrier vanishes.

Defeat the Pillar of the Black's Mana Ward 0/1 (Pillars of Alra)

Krathavik Mis throws its arms back and begins drawing dark power from the pillar walls.

Krathavik Mis hits for a max ~18,000. It casts "Grasp of the Black" and "Reaching Shadows" (hits everyone on around him):

Krathavik accepts its death gracefully, falling to the ground and vanishing into the shadows. The moment of peace is broken by the soft cry emanating from the shadowy pool.

a frightened spectre looks to the ground, 'As you may know, the agents of the black claim they only wish to spread the truth. Their non-violent methods lead most to believe they are the most reasonable of the sects. The reality is that their corruption runs deepest of all. They have taken it upon themselves to lead all lower castes to believe whatever the high court decrees to be the 'truth'... May Alra forgive me for all that I have done in my life...'

Task Window Says: Gain access to the lower hall of the Pillar of Nature by eliminating the barrier sustainers.

Kill the nine sustainers in the entrance area of the Pillar of Nature. These mobs appear to be aggro-linked in groups of three. "Stoic" mobs are mezzable, "timid" mobs are stunnable, and "lumbering" mobs are rootable/snareable.

Upon killing the last of the nine:

The sound of snapping twigs echoes out in all directions as the Pillar of Nature's verdant barrier fades from view.

Kysinval En`Revos looks to its newest guests and shouts, 'We offer you life and yet you try to kill us?! Your people are hopeless...'

You say, 'Forgive you?'

a fearful shadow hangs its head in shame, 'For all the harm I have caused, the lives I have ruined. The high court must be dismantled... There can be no other redemption for my soul...'



Speak with the shade 0/1 (Pillars of Alra)

Task Window Says: With the captured souls now freed, speak with the shade at the Shrine of Alra.

You say, 'Hail, a shade'

a shade nods as it speaks, 'I thank you for opening your eyes to the reality of this place, seeker.' The shade pauses, 'Even if your goal was simply to pillage what remains of our fallen empire, you have done a great service in freeing these souls today... When you are ready to [leave] this place and return to the facade of peace, I shall close your eyes to this vision.'

The shade smiles as its allies find peace in their final pilgrimage. The cold iron chest sits solitary at the foot of the shrine as the requited spirits begin fading from view.

So this mission can break pretty easily if you kill too quickly. I've had to restart twice now because i killed too fast....turn your dps down quite a bit if you don't want to keep starting over....

I did this mission with some friends last night, first time for any of us. During the fight with Krillionovar in the Arcane basement, we got a different emote:

Krillionovar glares at you furiously. You should move closer to it!

Five seconds later I saw:

Krillionovar prepares a devastating attack. You should move closer to avoid it.

I didn't see any effect after that, so maybe we were all close enough. So it appears sometimes you need to move away (glares angrily), and sometimes closer (glares furiously). Whether he has other ways to glare remains to be seen. But the emote shows in both your log and on the screen, so it's pretty easy to see what you need to do.

You might want a single audio trigger on [Krillionovar glares at you]. I also recommend everyone jump down to the bottom floor and fight there so you have room to move.

My group was having trouble with the sustainers not updating properly,it took us a few trys to figure it out,if two of the sustainers are killed at the same time or very close to the same time you my not get the update for one of them.It didn't happen every time but it only has to happen once to bug the mission,so try to wait a little time between kills.

They are immune to snare or mezz, but you dont get an immune or resist message. In fact you can snare and mezz them at spawn and they won't even notice or aggro. You can kite, but if you can, easier to tank all 3. Relatively gimp

Stoic are mezzable, timid are stunnable and lumbering are supposed to be snarable/rootable, though I didn't have much luck with enchanter root. I would mez stoic and other two of the trio would aggro, tank was able to handle both.
