Veil of Alaris Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor
NOTE: This is the quest entry for the group version of "Two Sides of the Stone". See this quest entry for the raid version.
This group mission begins with Reklor Irespine in the Resplendent Temple, located at 1810, -100, 440 (from the Pillars zone-in, head due south into the building and continue south until you come to the last room; Reklor is in the southeast room).
Pre-requisites for requesting the task:
- Completion of "The Light Within"
- Completion of "An Initiate's Task"
- Completion of "At Your Disposal"
- Completion of "Secrets of the Stones"
- 73 Skill Level in Alaran
You say, 'Hail, Reklor Irespine'
Without pre-requisites:
Reklor Irespine appears more interested in reading than speaking to you.
With pre-requisites:
Reklor Irespine reaches out for you as al struggles to speak, 'I owe you my life, _____, and many apologies. My mind and body betrayed me as a foreign [essence] entered my soul, bringing with it a volatile rage which I was unable to control. Without your [help], I fear the possessing spirit would have taken over completely.'
You say, 'What essence?'
Reklor Irespine winces as al recalls the recent events, 'As you placed the stones within the temple, I felt a surge of energy flow through the air. It was as though the sentry stones were conduits for spirits of some sort, allowing passage from their world into this one. Once the final stone was set, a crippling wave rushed over me. My body was still, but I could feel my veins begin to flow with a foreign power... And then I blacked out, only to awake [broken] and filled with painful regret over what I had unknowingly done.'
You say, 'Broken?'
Reklor Irespine pauses, sucking in air with visible discomfort, 'I fear I won't ever fully recover from the trauma my body received, but something must be done. The power within the force that possessed me; it was greater than anything I have ever known. Where a [power] like that could come from? I can hardly guess, but it seems to manifest itself using the sentry stones.'
You say, 'What about the power?'
Reklor Irespine speaks with certainty, 'It is clear to me what needs to be done. The sentry stones must be destroyed. I am no match for the power they contain, but you somehow managed to resist possession. Whether by luck or mental fortitude, it does not matter. Tell me, do you have a large force [willing] to destroy the stones, or perhaps you are [able] to complete the task with a smaller group?'
You say, 'We're able to do so with a small group'
Reklor Irespine says, in Alaran, 'Maintain your focus, and keep our goal at the forefront of your mind. Let me know when you are [prepared] to begin.'
You have been assigned the task 'Two Sides of the Stone'.
You say, 'We're prepared!'
Reklor Irespine bows deeply with gratitude, 'I will pray for your success.'

- Speak to the sentry stone 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
NOTE: Don't hail the sentry stone until you're ready for a fight.
You say, 'Hail, a sentry stone'
a sentry stone begins to tremble as whispers of beauty and decay fill the room.
The Avatar of Ladrys spawns and attacks.
- Engage the avatar spawned by the stone 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
It hits for a max ~12,500 and shifts forms between "Avatar of Ladrys" and "Avatar of Sholoth". Ladrys casts "Purification" while Sholoth casts "Wave of Filth":
Purification: Single Target, Disease (-900)
1: 60% Chance to trigger: Ruin Magic (a dispell)
2: Silence (1 tick)
Wave of Filth: Single Target, Disease (-900)
1: Amnesia (Silence vs Melee Effect) (1 tick)
2: Decrease HP when cast by 27700
While the Avatar is in Ladrys' form, adds called "inner darkness" spawn. These take the form of a player and attack, hitting for a max ~9,000. They have an emote:
The inner darkness is becoming very unstable.
Shortly after that emote, they explode (despawn), casting the AE "Inner Darkness" in the process:
Inner Darkness: PB AE 30', Magic (-900)
1: Blindness (1)
2: Decrease HP when cast by 43300
While the Avatar is in Sholoth's form, untargetable black oozes spawn on random people. These have a damage aura, so step away from them (they despawn after a short time):
Sludge: Single Target 0', Disease (-900)
1: Decrease Movement by 60%
2: Decrease Mana by 5000
3: Decrease Endurance by 2000
4: Decrease Hitpoints by 26300
Once the Avatar reaches 75%, it goes inactive. You see:
Avatar of Ladrys trembles while crashing to the floor as the essences of decay and splendor flee, causing the sentry stone to split in two.
Task Window Says: The possessing essence has split, fleeing to the west and east towers. Hail the sentry stones to travel to the towers and defeat the beings that now dwell there.
This opens up the next two steps and spawns two stones at either side of the room: "a perfect stone" and "a diseased stone". You'll find one named in each of the temple's two towers: The Shadow of Decay and the Vision of Splendor. To get to these mobs, you use these two stones.
When ready, either walk into the stone's proximity (you'll automatically port to their tower), or follow their dialogue:
You say, 'Hail, a diseased stone'
a diseased stone emits faint whispers of [decay].
Walking into the stone or saying "decay" ports up to the Shadow of Decay's tower.
You say, 'Hail, a perfect stone'
a perfect stone emits faint whispers of [splendor].
Walking into the stone or saying "splendor" ports up to the Vision of Splendor's tower.
NOTE: You can do either tower first; it doesn't matter. You can also take a break before porting up to a tower. There is no timer (other than the task timer itself).
- Defeat the Shadow of Decay 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
The Shadow of Decay calls to all those before it, 'I demand an offering of rot and decay, made from the flesh of your own!'
All must succumb to rot in order to make an offer of flesh.
The Shadow of Decay hits for a max ~12,500 and AEs "Rot", which leads to "Decaying Flesh" (which gives a zombie illusion):
Rot: Targeted AE 30', Disease (-900)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 14000 per tick
2: Increase corruption counter by 30
3: Improved Spell Effect: Decaying Flesh
Decaying Flesh: Self 0', Corruption (-900)
1: 100% Chance to trigger: Zombie Rot
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 8400 per tick
3: Increase corruption counter by 30
4: Decrease Attack Speed by 40%
Don't use any cures or anything that has a cure component. The DOTs and illusion must stay on everyone in order to keep the Shadow from regenerating. He'll check for this requirement every 6 seconds, so it must be kept on you at all times.
As long as even one person doesn't have the DOT/illusion on them, the Shadow will regenerate 25% per tick.
This step updates once you kill the Shadow.
- Defeat the Vision of Splendor 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
Vision of Splendor calls to all those before it, 'Impure souls, tainted with magic, are no challenge for me!'
One among many must rid themselves of all and any magical effects.
The Vision of Splendor hits for a max ~12,500 and casts the single-target one-tick duration "Purification" on random people:
Purification: Single Target, Disease (-900)
1: 60% Chance to trigger: Ruin Magic (a dispell)
2: Silence (1 tick)
Once the Vision emotes, one person needs to click off all their buffs and remain that way until it's dead. Note: Auras and songs count as well.
As long as everyone remains buffed, the Vision regenerates 25% per tick. Only one person needs to go buffless for this fight.
This step updates once you kill the Vision.
- Return to the central tower and engage the avatar once again 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
Task Window Says: The essence is one, once again. Fight it within the central tower.
Don't port back down until you're ready for a fight. The Avatar switches forms and has the same fight abilities as earlier. Once it reaches 50%, it goes inactive and the next two steps open up.
- Defeat the Shadow of Decay 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
One among you must throw themselves from the tower as a sacrifice to Sholoth!
During this encounter, the Shadow of Decay casts "Wave of Filth":
Wave of Filth: Single Target, Disease (-900)
1: Amnesia (Silence vs Melee Effect) (1 tick)
2: Decrease HP when cast by 27700
As the fight goes on, a random person (other than the tank) will get an emote. That person must jump out a window. (Note: Levitation effects greatly slow your jump speed, so click them off before initiating this portion of the event.)
Everyone Sees: One among you must throw yourselves from the tower as a sacrifice to Sholoth!
Target Sees: Jump from this tower as the ultimate sacrifice to Sholoth!
On a Successful Jump: You have made the proper sacrifice.
On a Failed Jump (Shadow regens 25%): Shadow of Decay shouts, '_____ failed to make the sacrifice!'
NOTE: Only the player with the emote should make the jump. If you have the emote and jump, you'll be ported back into the room. If you don't have the emote, you'll simply fall to your death.
This step updates once you kill the Shadow.
- Defeat the Vision of Splendor 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
Vision of Splendor calls to those within its reach, 'Cleanse yourself of the filth that surrounds you!'
The Vision still casts the "Purification" spell on random targets:
Purification: Single Target, Disease (-900)
1: 60% Chance to trigger: Ruin Magic (a dispell)
2: Silence (1 tick)
In addition, it will cast the spell "Filth" on everyone but its target (the tank):
Filth: Single Target, Unresistable (-900)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 27000 per tick
At the same time this happens, a "Purity Stone" (sentry stone model appears at a random spot around the room's perimeter). You have about six seconds to move to its location to cure the "Filth" spell. You'll see this emote when the Vision AEs "Filth":
You must cleanse yourself near the purity stone.
You'll see this once you've been cleaned:
You have been cleansed.
If someone fails, you'll see this (and the Vision regenerates 25%):
Vision of Splendor shouts '_____ is still covered in filth!'
This step updates once you kill the Vision.
- Return to the central tower and engage the avatar once again 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
Don't port back down until you're ready for a fight. The Avatar switches forms and has the same fight abilities as earlier. Once it reaches 25%, it goes inactive and the next two steps open up.
- Defeat the Shadow of Decay 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
Shadow of Decay calls to all within its reach, 'Sing your chants of decay! Fill your minds and bodies with disease, or suffer my wrath!'
During this fight, black oozes spawn on random people. These have a damage aura (the same ones that spawn with the Avatar of Sholoth). The Shadow of Decay, itself, doesn't have any AEs here.
Shortly after engaging, a random person will be given a book, "Book of Chants" (you'll see an emote indicating who receives it).
Keep the book passed around (target a player and right-click, do not trade the book). The book, when clicked, casts "Chant of Decay" on you. Everyone has to keep this spell up via the book:
Chant of Decay: Single 0', Unresistable (-900)
1: Amnesia (Silence vs Melee Effect) (2 ticks)
2: Decrease Endurance by 300 per tick
3: Decrease Hitpoints by 11300 per tick
4: Trigger Effect: Strained Voice on Fade
NOTE: If "Chant of Decay" fades from you, a new effect takes over: "Strained Voice" (lasts 1-2 ticks and still counts toward the NPC's "chant" requirement).
You can still click it, but you won't get rebuffed with "Chant of Decay" (which you need on you in order to prevent the NPC from regenerating).
* If you pass while you have Chant/Prayer, nothing bad happens, but the duration of Chant/Prayer does *not* update.
* If you pass while you have Strained Voice, the mob heals.
What you want to do then, is wait until *BOTH* have faded and then pass the book. This will start the effects all over again.
If you get "Strained Voice" on you, wait until it fades and then quickly pass the book along before the named takes notice.
Upon Passing the Book: You recite the Chant of Decay as you pass the book to _____.
Upon Failure (Shadow regens 25%): The Chant of Decay must be maintained.
This step updates once you kill the Shadow.
- Defeat the Vision of Splendor 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
Vision of Splendor calls to all within its reach, 'Pray for purity, to cleanse your minds and bodies, or suffer my wrath!'
During this fight, "inner darkness" adds spawn and attack, hitting for a max ~9,000 and casting "Inner Darkness" (the same add types that spawn with the Avatar of Ladrys). The Vision of Splendor, itself, doesn't have any AEs here.
Shortly after engaging, a random person will be given a book, "Book of Prayers" (you'll see an emote indicating who receives it).
Keep the book passed around (target a player and right-click). The book, when clicked, casts "Prayer of Purity" on you. Everyone has to keep this spell up via the book:
Prayer of Purity: Single 0', Unresistable (-900)
1: Silence (2 ticks)
2: Decrease Mana by 900 per tick
3: Decrease Hitpoints by 11300 per tick
4: Trigger Effect: Strained Voice on Fade
NOTE: If "Prayer of Purity" fades from you, a new effect takes over: "Strained Voice" (lasts 1-2 ticks and still counts toward the NPC's "prayer" requirement). This effect may impact your ability to click the book. You can pass it, but you won't get rebuffed with "Prayer of Purity" (which you need on you in order to prevent the NPC from regenerating).
If you get "Strained Voice" on you, wait until it fades and then quickly pass the book along before the named takes notice.
Upon Passing the Book: You recite the Prayer of Purity as you pass the book to _____.
Upon Failure (Vision regens 25%): The Prayer of Purity must be maintained.
This step updates once you kill the Vision.
NOTE: The task locks at this point.
- Return to the central tower and defeat the avatar 0/1 (Resplendent Temple)
Task Window Says: Defeat the possessed Nitore once and for all!
Don't port back down until you're ready for a fight. The Avatar switches forms and has the same fight abilities as earlier. This step updates upon its death.
