Veil of Alaris Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This raid expedition begins with Atleris, Council Pinnacle, in Argath, located inside the Pinnacle's council chambers (crown/top level).

Pre-requisites for participating in this raid:
- None

Pre-requisites for requesting this raid:
- Completion of "This is Argath"
- Completion of "Shoring Up Defenses"
- Completion of "Protect the Arms"
- Completion of "The Riddle of Steel"
- Completion of "Breaking Ballistae"
- Completion of "Critical Mass"
- Completion of "Reclaiming Argath"
- Completion of "Illdaera's Vengeance"
- Minimum skill level in Alaran Language: 10

You say, 'Hail, Atleris, Council Pinnacle'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'You shocked Erillion into disarray. Their forces begin to withdraw. I would proclaim victory to my people, but Argath will yet [drown]. It matters not that you have [help]ed deliver grain. It was useless for you to [speak] with Vitesal. [Work]ing with Alassin and [join]ing with Mizzenblast were for naught.'

You say, 'Drown?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'The tremors roll through the Pinnacle halls. Cracks crawl through foundations and fracture our walls. The heat rises from the Forge. The mountain is erupting. Its [anger] will wash over and burn us to ash. '

You say, 'Anger?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'Illdaera warned us of the misuse of steel. Trust your blade, honor your alliances, and defend your people. We failed on all counts. We became weak and defenseless, trusting our safety first to treaties, and now to outsiders. We deserve what has [befallen] us.'

You say, 'Why do we deserve what's befallen us?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'The mountain itself rejects the Argathian people. We have become a mockery of Illdaera's ideals -- a society of merchants and crafters who debase the steel of our forebears by turning swords to spades. Had I not respect left for the [oath] I took to serve my people, I would rather see us die in consuming fire, so that perhaps someday Argath might be reborn from the ashes as a worthy inheritor of steel.'

You say, 'What oath?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'There is no question: Bursin and everyone in the Forge are already dead. The living steel consumes the Forge and surges upwards, penetrating the Overlook. Illdaera's Breath vanishes into an exhalation of steam. And still the steel rises. I have sent Vitesal to the edge of the Crown. If there are few of you, but you still wish to help, go now and speak to ali. If you have numerous adventurers with you, then perhaps you and Vitesal shall be the [salvation] of Argath.'

You say, 'The Salvation?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'Al completed alir study of the steel, and al has a plan. It matters not if you further tempt the wrath of the mountain with your interference. Go to Vitesal. Enable ali to [execute] alir plan.'

Argath - Illdaera's Vengeance is now available to you.

You say, 'Ready to execute!'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'Argath will be reborn, whether you save it or not.'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Argath, Bastion of Illdaera.

Summary

- Set up at the bottom of the spiral ramp (off to the side).
- Mechanic Vitesal is found at the zone-in point. Saying "hear" to him spawns the Avatar at the bottom of the ramp.
- Offtank the Avatar (ranged DPS hits, albeit highly mitigated).
- Someone needs to click the bolt guns on the "neck" ledges to spawn ooze adds.
- Kill the oozes; dedicate three people as looters.
- These three looters should collect shards until you have enough (how many you need will depend on your raid's DPS).
- One looter should go to the north cart.
- One looter should go to the south cart.
- One looter should go to the water tower on the top level.
--- Stand on the cart/tower and click shards to keep them moving into position (5-6 required per trip).
- Once the water tower in place, water pours down and makes the Avatar damageable.
- Once the two carts are in place, an explosion is set off, unlocking the Avatar's health.
- Kill the Avatar of Steel while fending off its adds.

The Avatar of Steel

The Avatar of Steel hits for a max ~23,500; AE rampages; is permanently rooted in place; summons from 100% health; and has a few emote-based spells.

This is the emote seen five seconds prior to the Avatar's line-of-sight AE:

Avatar of Steel prepares for a massive strike at anyone not hidden from sight.

Anyone still in its line of sight gets hit with "Crushing Swipe":

Crushing Swipe: PB AE 200', Fire (-900)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 60000

It frequently casts "Rumble of Mountains":

Rumble of Mountains: PB AE 1000', Fire (-900)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 15000

It's reported to proc "Steel Absorption":

Steel Absorption: Single Target, Fire (-900)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 75000

Adds

This event's adds are timed. It's possible to kill the Avatar before you see any adds.

Adds include non-aggro, giant molten ooze adds that have a far-reaching damage aura. These should be nuked dead.

Another add type is "a steel pattern". These spawn from the spiral ramp and are non-aggro. They'll seek out players and, once they reach a player, will transform into "a recreation of steel" which takes the form of that player's weapons (mezzable; stunnable; hits for a max ~17,500).

Mechanics

You'll have to make the Avatar of Steel vulnerable to damage before you can kill it. You do this by clicking the bolt guns on the ledges of the "neck" to spawn adds that drop shards. The shards are then used to move the north and south transport carts in place, as well as to move the top level's water tower into place. To make these contraptions move, whoever looted the shards needs to stand on them (and stay on them) and click the shards.

The water, spilled onto the Avatar, makes it vulnerable to the explosions from the carts and susceptible to all damage. The explosions make the Avatar killable. In the absence of explosions, the Avatar's health will lock after 25% damage is done and you'll see:

Avatar of Steel regenerates its life, since its outer protection has not been significantly weakened.

After three minutes pass, the Avatar's protection returns, at which point you'll need to repeat the water and cart process again. (If you can kill the Avatar within those three minutes, you won't have to worry about repeating the carts.)

This is the emote you see as the water pours onto the Avatar (note: it also turns a blue color; you won't miss it!):

Avatar of Steel is cooled by the water cascading from the tower, leaving it vulnerable to physical attacks and explosives!
Avatar of Steel is damaged for 2000000 by water flowing from the tower.

This is the emote you see as an explosion goes off:

Avatar of Steel is damaged by the massive explosion damages for 2500000.
Avatar of Steel's magical protection crumbles in the massive explosion!

This is the emote you see as the protection returns:

Avatar of Steel's skin melts and becomes impervious to explosives

This is the emote you see as the large molten oozes spawn:

Mechanic Vitesal shouts 'Steel begins to swell from the Forge onto the Overlook!'

This is the emote you see when "a steel pattern" spawns:

Avatar of Steel drops a piece of steel from its body.

In Detail: Spawning the Avatar

The NPCs explain what's going on:

You say, 'Hail, Mechanic Vitesal'

Mechanic Vitesal says 'Thank you for coming, outsider! Most of your kind have already fled Argath, and the rest of our people have taken shelter in the Pinnacle. You would not [leave] us, would you? No, you have the courage of Illdaera to stand alongside us! Had the Forge not been [consumed], Bursin would no doubt be at my side.'

You say, 'Consumed?'

Mechanic Vitesal says 'I could not bear to hear the screams of agony that came from the Forge as I stood on the Overlook, fearing for my life as the mountain shook beneath me. Staggering to the edge, I saw Bursin directing the attendants to flee as a wave of steel overtook ali. If only I had readied a [plan] sooner...'

You say, 'We need a plan...'

Mechanic Vitesal says 'You are right. We must focus now on saving Argath. In the course of studying the steel, I determined that energy radiates from the living steel of the Forge and resonates with any steel object long since cooled. Our carts and the cores of our floating towers were crafted from the Forge's steel. If we bring shards of living steel close enough to the carts or towers, we can provide to them enough energy to carry enormous [payloads].'

You say, 'What payloads?'

Mechanic Vitesal says 'The living steel is not impervious. If we can [cool] it, we can then [break] it apart with a large enough explosion.'

You say, 'How do we cool it?'

Mechanic Vitesal says 'I have moved one of our floating towers and placed it in the waters of Illdaera. Our spelltamers have enchanted the tower's stones, enabling them to soak up the waters. With enough shards of living steel, we can provide the power needed to carry the large amount of water and dump it on the encroaching steel. Then we can [break] it. Speak with Spelltamer Frocal to learn more about our plans for the tower.'

You say, 'How do we break it?'

Mechanic Vitesal says 'I have laden two carts with enough explosive material to shatter a river of steel. Having experimented with the living steel, I know that it is not enough to simply detonate the explosives when the steel is in its molten phase. It will just reform. But if we first cool and harden the steel, we can fracture it [permanently]. Speak with Hauler Talarnis or Hauler Thubner to learn more about our plans for the carts.'

You say, 'Permanently?'

Mechanic Vitesal says 'There is no telling if my plan is enough to save Argath, but we cannot find out standing here. We must make our way to the overlook and try to collect shards of steel. On the ledges of the Neck, adjacent to the Breath Spiral, I have mounted bolt guns that we can use to break pieces of steel from the living mass. Speak with Mechanic Dorsim to find out more about our plan for the bolt guns...Wait...Do you [hear] that?!'

You say, 'I hear it...' (this spawns the Avatar)

Mechanic Vitesal says 'It sounds like the entire Breath Spiral is cracking and giving way! Hurry below and see what is happening!'

In Detail: The Bolt Guns

Mechanic Dorsim is found midway down the spiral ramp:

You say, 'Hail, Mechanic Dorsim'

Mechanic Dorsim says 'I have placed bolt guns along the five ledges that connect to the Spiral. Using the guns, we can shoot the steel golem. This will break off pieces of it, weaken its power, and damage it. We can then subdue the pieces of living steel and collect shards to provide power to the carts and floating tower.'

Upon clicking one (spawns an add):

Avatar of Steel is pierced by a bolt gun. A piece of molten steel breaks off of Avatar of Steel, weakening its power.

NOTE: The Avatar will occasionally break a bolt gun. If you see this emote...

The bolt gun must be repaired before it can be fired.

...Move to a different bolt gun.

In Detail: The Carts

Hauler Thubner can be found at one of the carts:

You say, 'Hail, Hauler Thubner'

Hauler Thubner says 'We have loaded the cart with explosives. It is now so heavy we cannot move it without using the power of living steel. Use the bolt guns on the ledges next to the spiral ramp to break off pieces of the living steel. If you bring steel shards and hold them aloft while standing on the cart, we can provide enough power to move the cart toward the steel golem. When both carts have been placed near the golem, we can [destroy] it.'

You say, 'How do we destroy it?'

Hauler Thubner says 'Once the fiery skin of the golem has been cooled by water from the floating tower, the carts' explosives can be triggered.'

Whoever has the shards needs to get on the cart and click the shards from their inventory. The cart will move on its own as long as the person with the shards stays on it. It will take 4-5 shards to move the cart all the way to the final location (at the Avatar).

In Detail: The Water Tower

Spelltamer Frocal stands by the water and explains it:

You say, 'Hail, Spelltamer Frocal'

Spelltamer Frocal says 'The tower next to me has been filling with water since the Forge began erupting. Use the bolt guns on the ledges next to the spiral ramp to break off pieces of the living steel. If you bring steel shards and hold them aloft while standing on the tower, we can provide enough power to move the tower toward the steel eruption for a short time. I have also modified this [catapult] to help you.'

You say, 'The catapult?'

Spelltamer Frocal says 'If you fall, use this catapult to fling yourself to the tower.'

Click on the catapult to launch yourself onto the water tower. Click the shards to get the tower moving and it'll move to a position above the Avatar. It'll take 5-6 shards to move it into the final position.

NOTE: While you're on the tower, "a fiery blast" may hit it. These can ranged-attacked or nuked down before they get to the tower.

Completion

Avatar of Steel has been slain by _____!
Avatar of Steel's corpse's massive form collapses, shaking the Overlook.

You say, 'Hail, Atleris, Council Pinnacle'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'Once again you have done what we could not. Our founder would be [ashamed] of us. '

You say, 'Ashamed?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'We lost the lust for battle that Illdaera held sacred. You have shown me this. Not only have you saved Argath, you have also reminded me that military might is paramount. We cannot [rely] upon commerce to save us.'

You say, 'Why can't you rely on that?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'I will rebuild our regiment into an army that Erillion and all of Alaris will fear to challenge. Erillion will be crushed and driven from the [Valley], never to return to Argath!'

You say, 'The Valley?'

Atleris, Council Pinnacle says 'Erillion still holds Arelis and Lunanyn. I have seen great flashes of light and heard deep rolls of thunder issuing from the Valley. As you have helped us here, go to the Valley and smite Erillion! Thank you, outsiders. Speak to Vitesal when you are ready to [leave] us.'

Anyone knows what causes the Avatar of Steel to use this ability. Is it just at 2% or less he does it like every 30seconds or is it timed fail mechanic??? Does it start to go off after spawning to many "a recreations of steel"?

The first time my guild did this event we didn't have this AE. But the last few attempts It seemed to start triggering at 2%. I've had someone from another guild that has done this event many times tell me "WTF!!! that is not supposed to happen. Maybe its something we are missing???

We also had a scuffed traveler's rucksack in our loot table, not sure if it is just a chance drop (0-1) or if it took spot of another item loot.
