For an overview of Veil of Alaris pre-launch events, see this quest entry.

This is a pre-launch task leading up to the Veil of Alaris expansion, expected to be available only for a certain period of time ahead of VOA's launch.

It begins with a gnome named Chief Wood Engineer Gilanspring in the Steamfont Mountains. He's found in the far southeastern part of the Steamfont Mountains.

You say, 'Hail, Chief Wood Engineer Gilanspring'

Chief Wood Engineer Gilanspring says 'Hrmf. I'm a busy gnome. We've got a massive [project] under way here, and I really don't have time to spare.'

You say, 'What project?'

Chief Wood Engineer Gilanspring says 'You don't know about it? Well I don't have time to go into details. You should talk to Olim, he likes to chat. Then again, if you have that much spare time, maybe you could use it productively by [helping] out around here.'

You say, 'Helping, how?'

Chief Wood Engineer Gilanspring says 'We can always use hands doing the non-skilled stuff. I think you'll be useful doing some of those [tasks].'

You say, 'What tasks?'

Chief Wood Engineer Gilanspring says 'Nothing too difficult for you, I hope.'

A task window pops up with a single task to choose.

You have been assigned the task 'Guidance Systems - Wheel'.

The ship needs a steering device. The engineers understand that this usually takes the form of a wheel. The engineers would like you to gather some examples of the type so they can decide what sort they wish to use. There are several types they would like to see, and they have asked you to bring them two of them. The pirates of Dulak Harbor must have some interesting types of ship's wheels. The drowned pirates of the Buried Sea certainly had ship's wheels. Perhaps you can find one. The engineers have heard that the trolls in the Crypt of Nadox have ancient ship's wheels that might prove exciting. The engineers are also interested in ideas that might be out of the box... or wheel. Perhaps a catapult wheel would work? Find one in Sunderock Springs. Certainly a cart wheel looks like a ship's wheel. See if you can find someone to give one to you. It doesn't have to be new, we just want an example. Try one of the merchant gnomes in Dragonscale Hills.

Find an example of the ship's wheels used in Dulak 0/1 (Dulak's Harbor)

Pirate mobs are found throughout the Dulak's Harbor zone.

Find an example of the ship's wheels used by drowned pirates 0/1 (The Buried Sea)

Drowned pirates are found most commonly in the waters off the coast of Deadbone Reef (the northeastern-most island in the Buried Sea).

Find an example of the ship's wheels used by the pirates of Broken Skull 0/1 (Crypt of Nadox)

Broken Skull mobs are found throughout the Crypt of Nadox. Any particular mob update here, or any Broken Skull troll?

Find a catapult wheel to use as an example 0/1 (Sunderock Springs)

Attack the catapults in Sunderock until this updates.

Find a cart wheel to use as an example 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills)

Find Tizzle is the Dragonscale Hills. He's found in the Gnome vendor along the northern boundary of the zone (west of the entrance from Steamfont).

Deliver 3 Othmir Algae Ales to Tizzle 0/3 (Dragonscale Hills)

These are made with Brewing (Trivial: 31): See this recipe link for details.

Note: All components can be bought from Blumblum Swigwater, the Othmir vendor in Cobalt Scar at around location 200, -1400 (northeast part of the beach).

Speak with Tizzle 0/1 (Dragonscale Hills)

Show the Chief Wood Engineer what you have discovered 0/1 (Steamfont Mountains)

Chief Wood Engineer Gilanspring thanked you for the wheel samples you brought him.

The 8th and final step reads "Show the Chief Wood Engineer what you have discovered"
and closing message is "Chief Wood Engineer Gilanspring thanked you for the wheel samples you brought him."

It says they want you to bring back two (2) so any 2 of the possible updates will in fact meet the requirements of the task.

Dulak -- look for MOB's that actually have "Pirate" in their name. I found them inside the rows of buildings along the harbor.

Nadox -- got my update off a Broken Skull troll

NOTE: After the Nadox update I went to Dulka. Upon Dulak update I got all the other five (5) updates all at once -- I never had to go to Buried Sea, Sunderock or Dragonscale. Can we say bug?

This task is buggy...I killed a drowned pirate in TBS and got both that update as well as the 3 updates for Dragonscale Hills.

If you actually have to do it, Tizzle is the Dragonscale Hills merchant, he then wants 3 Othmir Algae Ale, and then you have to hail him.
