PRE on each server - You need to infiltrate and sabotage the Mechamatic Guardian first. (Someone on the server needs to complete one of the "Infiltrating the Guardian [XX]" group missions given by Gearbie Gogglenoggin in The Plane of Knowledge before the event in Dragonscale Hills can be started.)

Note this starts in POK - then the one in Dragonscale can start

This is not a task. This is an outline of the encounter with The Mechamatic Guardian as part of an anniversary event introduced with EverQuest's 12th anniversary. The actual tasks and their rewards are linked below and on the menu to the left.

There are two tasks you should get before engaging The Mechamatic Guardian:

- "Parts is Parts" (for the two augs)
- "Maximum Capacity" (for the flyer)

Both tasks are given by Gearbie Gogglenoggin at location 1825, 2290, 122 in the Dragonscale Hills (northwest of the Citadel).

The Mechamatic Guardian doesn't attack back, but has a lot of hitpoints, spawns adds, and occasionally casts AEs.

Gout of Oily Steam: Targeted AE 100', Fire (-700)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 35000
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 5000 per tick (72 seconds)

Guardian Kick: Single Target, Unresistable (0)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 10000

Ring of Smoke: PB AE 400', Fire (-700)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 30000
2: Decrease Movement by 50%
3: Decrease Attack Speed by 50%
4: Increase Poison Counter by 20

NOTE: The Guardian Kick spell can be avoided if you pick up a group task from Overvolt Rigster IV near the Fortress Mechanotus zone.

Every once in a while (15-20 minutes? and at 80/60/40/20/10 health), the Guardian spawns a wave of adds. Some of these adds also have AEs.

To complete the two tasks, you'll need to be in the zone (doesn't matter where) when the Guardian passes each of the above health milestones (task updates at 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, and 10%). You'll also need to collect a number of drops from the adds that spawn.

Adds can drop different types of items, but each have a primary drop that it drops most of the time. (Add corpses are sometimes empty.)

- a steamwork mender primarily drops Dented Whirligig
- a steamwork reclaimer primarily drops Counterlocking Nut
- a steamwork trooper primarily drops Super-Dense Coal
- a steamwork striker primarily drops Steam Coalescer
- a steamwork cleaner primarily drops Steam-Infuzed Goo
- an acidic ooze primarily drops Acidized Oil
- an enhanced steamsuit primarily drops Advanced Steam Injector
- a flamesuit primarily drops Flame Igniter

Currently doing this on Ragefire as "in-era content". Takes a while for the participating people get get his HP down, and it's noted that the HP thresholds we're receiving updates at are actually one percent higher (81%, 61%, etc.) and it takes a bit longer to do enough to get it to the [x]0% mark.

With no one else around, I started attacking the MG with it's health at 75%. Gamparse overlay was running showing active fight damage. At the moment the MG's health dropped to 74%, my damage was at 9,105k according to Gamparse. I continued attacking the MG until its health dropped to 73%, at which point Gamparse showed my damage at 28,804k. So approximately 19,699,000 hitpoints for 1% life on the MG, or a grand total of roughly 1,969,900,000 hitpoints.

Today while slowly burning down the Mech Guardian, at the moment it hit 96% we received this yellow emote:

#Maintenance unit number overload! Halting processing!

The Mech.Guardian became un-attackable at this time (no melee, no spell damage would land). The MG started slowly regenerating HP as we could no longer hit it. I noticed there seemed to be more than the usual volume of add mobs so this may have been the server correcting itself (ie. waiting until some despawned). Was not able to hit the MG again until the adds had cleared.

[EDIT:] Happened again at 84%.

Yes, this is a temporary hold to prevent a hundred mobs from training every living thing within an inch of its life.

Event not a Raid
# Mar 27 2011 at 2:53 PM Rating: Good
For this event you do not:
-need to be in a raid (in fact there is no reason to raid this)
-need to help lower his hp for task up dates (though only a parasite would not help)
-to be high end raider of anni kind
-have any special flags other than the expansion SoF

Ok we all know that mobs spawn every 15-20 mins and the quantity has been updated
So if your not a ranger how do you dps and not get destroyed in the process....

Rangers: (you suck) eq, aa's bow ..... well you have it made here....
as for the rest of us....
Melee: that wish to fight him, you need to get the above mentioned task from overvolt /say Head into (will get you this task)
Melee: will also need to keep a watch on the timing so to withdraw from combat before the next wave of adds spawn
Melee: also make good guards for the casters incase some one pulls a noob and drops mobs on the casters (the add wont last long as all the casters changed targets and dust them)
Casters: Stay mounted, even with dots you will stay in Out of Combat mode, endless mana....
Casters: will need to stay on the plateau to the NW of him near a lone tree and the huge rocks, if you proc pets you will need to edge closer to him to be just in swarm pet range.

This location has shown over about 4 hours (time it took about 20 of us to get him down to 80% 2nd time around) and other than being trained by other pc's no npcs came up to us, even while nuking / dotting / shooting the MG, (his own spawns will not assist)so ty Ranstarr on finding this spot, oh and for the dps loggers good place to just pour it on (with out going to test) and find out just how much you can do!!!!

According to the EQPlayers.com post "EverQuest Turns 12!" on 03/10/2011

All anniversary events go tell April 26th.

"Starting on Tuesday March 16, 2011 and lasting until Tuesday April 26, 2011 we'll celebrate our 12th Anniversary in game! Not only will we have everything from our previous anniversary celebrations (including quests, fabled spawns, and raids) but this year brings all new challenges to the lands of Norrath!"

When does it end?
# Mar 23 2011 at 1:59 PM Rating: Decent
There has been a lot of talk on my server and no one seems to know for sure.

When will the Guardian event in DSH end? Or the Instanced group task?

Some people say 27th of March, others say April...

Anyone know this for sure?

Thanks!

Steam Capacitor
# Mar 20 2011 at 10:05 PM Rating: Decent
I had a Steam Capacitor drop from "A steamwork mender". It might just be rare drop that can drop from any of the Mech Guardian adds.
Little More Info

The updates you get form being in the zone at the time of % of his health are flags, even if you don't have the quest and are in the zone at the time of that health you get the flag. When you do request the quest it will automatically update. This also goes for getting both augs, if you get the flag once, when you turn in all your parts and request it again for the second aug, the raid update will update automatically

As far as The Mechamatic Guardian regening we got him to 74% Saturday night, Sunday night he was still at 74%. This may be due to the fact that his adds are always camped and random people cast on MG all the time just because they can.

Steam Capacitor dropped off a A steamwork striker today, dropped it and his normal drop Steam Coalescer, not sure if he is only one or if its a rare among them all.

If your farming trash the pop every 20mins like clockwork, regardless of when they were killed.

So, after hanging out at 2 day long raids at Mechamatic Guardian, gonna post what there is to know.

Before touching him make sure you say 'get them' to Gearbie Gogglenogin at 1824 2290 122 to get the tasks Parts is Parts and Maximum Capacity.

First of all, the add spawns are timed (about 15 - 20 mins) AND triggered at the 80/60/40/20/10 updates if the zone isn't lagged down, a severely lagged down zone will have many sets of adds, but not too many, it paces itself but does eventually pump all the adds out. Spawns are random in what they can be, but have a very annoying tendency to be healer types.

The MG does have some AEs, but they are rather rare, and if you have 30k hp or more and your healer/merc is awake is not much of an issue. MG also does the lovely kick still, which can be avoided by getting the GROUP task from Overvolt Rigster the IV near the Fortress Mechanotus zoneline. The real AE issue comes from having several oozes, mechano suits, gnome bots all AEing everyone. We found it best to back off during spawns and pull them to main raid force to kill them. The MG does not really seem to regen much at all, although we haven't left him alone much longer than 30-40 mins ever (Raid 1 had massive lag resulting in a massive backlog of spawns)

As far as the update conditions go, be in the task and anywhere in the zone, and you will get the update. The update for Parts is Parts will happen at ANY of the 80/60/40/20/10 updates, while the Maximum Capacity task requires all 5 updates separately.

Important thing to know about Parts is Parts, getting one raid update at any of the stages will not update for that task, but will update for the task again automatically for those wanting both augs. So if you show up for of the important percentage marks, farming is all you got to do for your augs.

As far as quest drops go, one mob can drop different kinds, but typically one type of mob will drop one type of part primarily, but not every time(some corpses are flat out empty). Drops are as follows:

A steamwork mender primarily drops Dented Whirligig
A steamwork reclaimer primarily drops Counterlocking Nut
A steamwork trooper primarily drops Super-Dense Coal
A steamwork striker primarily drops Steam Coalescer
A steamwork cleaner primarily drops Steam-Infuzed Goo
An acidic ooze primarily drops Acidized Oil
An enhanced steamsuit primarily drops Advanced Steam Injector
A flamesuit primarily drops Flame Igniter

No one is really sure as of yet where to get Steam Capacitor to finish the Maximum Capacity task, or what on earth the rewards for the task are. Hopefully someone finds this useful.

4-5 hours later Edit:

Okay, so we managed to control our lag and not crash the zone. People are saying the reward choices are either Whirligig Flyer Control Device, or some XP and plat (lol!). Looking at the device, it appears to be the knight speed horse aka lord seru/emp ssra speed horse.

One strategy that I thought worked particularly well was to have all casters focus on the MG the whole time and have melee deal w/ the adds, the adds don't at all assist the MG. Although the health didn't appear to lock at all while adds were up for me, although it did when i was farming the trash for drops. Pretty frigging lame end,

'The Mechamatic Guardian siezes up with a massive groan. Its defensive shield returns, but flickers in an unstable fashion.'
Next Line:
'You see the great Guardian shudder and seize up. Parts fly everywhere, one of them landing only inches from your foot. It burns itself a few inches into the ground before cooling enough to pick up. It looks like a very small gear made of some type of gold ally. You pick it up, guessing that Gearbie will be interested in it.'
Next Line after he regens to full:
'The Mechamatic Guardian groans and creaks. Steam bursts from some of its joints. Fires appear on several exterior surfaces. Its defensive barrier waves and drops.' (reset, ready to be raided again!)

So yea, some text, then watching him regen, what a fantastic end for a 9 hour raid. Could have at least had him blow up.

Zone: Dragonscale Hills

NPC: Gearbie Gogglenoggin

2 Quests related to this (get both at same time):

Parts is Parts
Maximum Capacity

Both basically involve looting parts to hand back to Gearbie, which drop randomly, one at a time, from the MOB's that spawn with/from the Guardian (open zone).

Adds don't spawn as a result of MG's health going down. They're timed (10-15 minutes). Of course, when there are 100-200 people in the zone beating on MG, the lag on the Server side gets so bad that no adds spawn for exxtended periods of time, then 50 spawn at once.

Messing with the MG tonight for the 12th events and was hit with Ring of Smoke a few times for 17-19K with fire resists at 740 so anyone low level folks that are going to approach the MG should be ready.
