This is a group task that begins with Kuutas Gigglegibber in the Plane of Knowledge (located next to the Plane of Tranquility portal).

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Completion of "Gathering Holiday Cheer" (his solo task)
- Someone must also have "Frostfell Cheer Potion" in order to complete the mission

This mission scales in level up to 95+ (it isn't known what its lower limit is, but is believed to scale all the way down the same as "Gathering Holiday Cheer"). At its highest level, you can expect non-named mobs in this mission to hit for a max ~6,500 while names hit for up to ~7,500. Most mobs have ~500,000 to 700,000 hitpoints each. They have high assist ranges for an indoor zone. The Icewell sentries in the zone do not assist your kill targets.

As part of the lead-in for "Gathering Holiday Cheer", you see:

Kuutas Gigglegibber says 'I knew you'd come through for Frostfell. I thank you, and my legion of underpaid Gigglegibber goblins thanks you. If you can get this done for us, bring back the Frostfell Cheer potion and I'll send you on a mission to inject Santug with it. If you've already brought back the syringe, you're ready to [start] the mission.'

You say, 'We're ready to start the mission'

Kuutas Gigglegibber says 'Very well. Santug is planning to spend Frostfell up at Icewell Keep; apparently the coldain king is away on a trip and letting Santug stay there along with his entourage. Say the [word] and I'll tell you more.'

You say, 'Consider this your word...'

Kuutas Gigglegibber says 'Talk to Graat over there and he will send you on your way. Good luck getting to Santug!'

You have been assigned the task 'Operation: Jolliness (By Any Means Necessary)'.

Kuutas Gigglegibber has made the Frostfell Cheer Potion, now it will be up to you to actually administer it to Santug Claugg to help improve his mood enough to want to celebrate Frostfell again. Graat Gigglegibber has teleported you to Icewell Keep, where King Dain Frostreaver IV and his court have gone on an expedition, and agreed to let Santug's entourage stay at the Keep through the holiday season.

Graat Gigglegibber stands nearby. Say "leave" to him to zone into the instanced version of Icewell Keep.

You say, 'Hail, Graat Gigglegibber'

Graat Gigglegibber says 'So you're off to save Frostfell are ya? I hope so. I have 10 hungry kids at home and there will be heck to pay if this gig falls through. Just let me know when you are ready to [leave] and I will send you to Santug's retreat.'

You say, 'Ready to leave!'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Santug's Retreat (Level 90).

  1. Speak to Santaug's manager, Jaxon Bardison, and see if there is an easy way to see Santug and give him the potion. 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

    You say, 'Hail, Jaxon Bardison'

Jaxon Bardison says 'Bah! No way, friend. Santug isn't seeing anyone. Not today, not for the rest of the winter at least! He's not seeing anyone, Frostfell is not happening this year or any year, he's made up his mind, he's put his foot down, he's had it up to here, he's not putting up with it any longer. You'll have to come back some other time. The orders he left with his bodyguard were to defend his privacy to the death, so unless you want to end up a meal for the ice dragon down in the Keep's community hall, you best make tracks back to wherever you came from. Look, I'm sad about losing Frostfell too, my kids love it, but Santug's really been through enough. He even had the dragon use his magic to put a magical protection aura around him.'

  2. Santug's snow panthers are trying to kill you. Do unto them before they do unto you. 0/6 (Icewell Keep)

  3. Brok Karkenthug is pretty sure you're not here to check out the fancy Coldain art work. 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

  4. Santug's trainer Jeggo has orders to stop any intruders on pain of death. 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

  5. Even Santug's favorite jester imp is rushing to defend him from unwanted guests. 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

  6. Santug's publicist, Feklin Gigglegibber, apparently doesn't know who sent you and is trying to kill you. 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

Task Window Says: Looks like the entourage has been ordered to prevent you from seeing Santug, on pain of death. Defend yourself by killing Santug's bodyguards, his prized pet snow panthers, and whichever of his entourage members feel compelled to lay down their lives to prevent your appointment from taking place.

From the entry room, head upstairs to the second floor where you'll find Brok Karkenthug (gnome), Jeggo Makthak (wood elf), and Wizzy Pixxet (mephit).

In the northern area of the second floor, you'll find the snow panthers and Feklin Gigglegibber.

NOTE: Brok Karkenthug may only be susceptible for spells, procs, and damage shields (immune to melee attacks?).

a pet snow panther growls and bares its fangs as it lunges toward you!
Wizzy Pixxet says 'Say hello to my little friend! Hmm, where did he go?'
Jeggo Makthak says 'You shouldn't bother Santug. He is in a fragile state of mind right now!'
Brok Karkenthugg says 'You just can't take a hint, can you? Santug's not seeing visitors right now!'
Feklin Gigglegibber says 'You're not gonna kidnap Santug this year, you big thug!'

a pet snow panther has been slain by _____!
a pet snow panther's corpse let's out one last, pathetic growl as you end its life.

Wizzy Pixxet has been slain by _____!
Wizzy Pixxet's corpse says 'Nice try! Oh, wait a minute... That hit me. Looks like I am a goner, ugh!'

Jeggo Makthak has been slain by _____!
Jeggo Makthak's corpse says 'Such brutish behavior! Where's all this blood coming from? Oh, it's coming from my head.'

Brok Karkenthugg has been slain by _____!
Brok Karkenthugg's corpse says 'Is it really worth killing me to save Frostfell? I guess it is. Ungh!'

  7. Gezrazelm the Ice Dragon has the key to the aura blocking you from seeing Santug. You know what to do. 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

  8. Take the spell of Hopeless Isolation from Gezrazelm. 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

Task Window Says: Looks like Santug had had time to cast a spell of isolation upon himself, which he got from the Ice Dragon in the Keep's community hall. Get this spell and use it to cancel Santug's spell.

Head back down to the first floor (northern part of the floor) and engage Gezrazelm the Frostfell Dragon. The dragon hits for a max ~12,000; AE rampages; has ~1.4 million hitpoints; and casts "Freezy Breath":

Freezy Breath: PB AE 200', Cold (-150)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 300
3: Decrease Attack Speed by 30%

Gezrazelm the Frostfell Dragon says 'Who let this riff-raff in?'

Gezrazelm the Frostfell Dragon has been slain by _____!
Gezrazelm the Frostfell Dragon's corpse falls to the ground with a booming thud.

Loot "Spell of Hopeless Isolation" from its corpse.

  9. Eliminate the magical aura that is bouncing people out of Santug's bedroom. 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

Approach the north room on the second floor, and right-click the spell scroll.

  10. Administer the Frostfell Cheer Potion to Santug 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

Santug says, "Why can't I simply lie here and wallow in my despair, can't you people understand that I'm -- oh! What's that you've given me... why, I can feel my Frostfell Cheer coming back! Ha! I feel brand new, and ready to make everyone happy and help them celebrate a wondrous holiday!"

  11. Speak with Santug and see if the Frostfell cheer potion did in fact live up to its purpose 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

    You say, 'Hail, Santug Claugg'

Santug Claugg says 'Ha ha ha! Merry Frostfell, everyone! Oh, the members of my entourage are all dead, as are my prized snow panthers, but it doesn't matter because I am pumped full of Frostfell Cheer! Ha ha ha ha! If I weren't so happy and full of joy, I'd grab my old cudgel and teach you all a lesson! Ha ha ha ha! Time to get Frostfell underway!'

  12. Speak to Santug's manager and get an idea where things stand now that Frostfell is happening this year after all. 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

    You say, 'Hail, Jaxon Bardison'

Jaxon Bardison says 'Well, you slew a lot of Santug's highly-experienced handlers, and those snow panthers were irreplaceable. On the other hand, I no longer have to drop 25,000 plat every month on salaries, upkeep, and panther chow, plus you saved Frostfell by renewing Santug's holiday cheer, which is really what the season is all about. Well done, friend, and best wishes for a very merry Frostfell!'

  13. Loot the chest for your reward! 0/1 (Icewell Keep)

    Chest Loot:
1x "Mask of the Grumpy Goblin"
    3x "Natural Coal"
    1x "Snowball"

  14. Return to Kuutas Gigglegibber and report the good news about Santug regaining his frostfell cheer. 0/1 (Plane of Knowledge)

    You say, 'Hail, Braztik Gigglegibber'

Braztik Gigglegibber says 'You wanna go back to the Plane of Knowledge? Are you [sure]?'

    You say, 'I'm sure'

    LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered The Plane of Knowledge.

    You say, 'Hail, Kuutas Gigglegibber'

Kuutas Gigglegibber says 'You did it! Santug is feeling better and getting ready for Frostfell as we speak! Thank you!'

You have injected Santug Claugg with the Frostfell Cheer Potion, restoring his will to provide holiday cheer and merriment to the people of Norrath, thus saving Frostfell from being cancelled this year!

Like many of the older quests the advanced loot might not work on the chest. If that happens just leave all items on corpse and have each person in group loot what they were supposed to get.

If you shroud down to get the quest the unshroud to do the quest, take off your damage shields. Looks like any quest mobs that die on a damage shield do not count toward the quest, and they don’t seem to respawn.

This task is instantly redo able due to the fact you have to do part 1 first.
Check the chest. No mask?
Just have everyone drop task or have the leader /kickp task
Do it again and have a different group member do the santug turn in.

My group did this 6 times today for 2 masks.
Then we all went and got more potions till everyone had a mask.

Good Luck!

Soloed with a 90 sk with merc. Dragon was the hardest. I don't recommend wasting time on this crap. After all the trouble, no mask. Isn't that the point of this quest?

If your looking for just the goblin mask, I would suggest running the older Frostfell missions to get it. For my little bot crew of 3, I just shrouded us down to 55 got the pre-quest for Hate's Fury... unshrouded my main.. ran over, annihilated the zone, then came back with the pieces... finished task 1... shrouded... got task 2... unshrouded.. annihilated the mission.. and got my masks... only needed for 2 accounts, but was super easy. You also get 100 snowballs, but yeah...

All in all... it took me roughly about 30-45 minutes to do the quests.. and that was mostly zoning and running across several zones.
shrouding
# Dec 18 2010 at 9:34 PM Rating: Decent
as noted previously, if you shroud to do the task, you must shroud to the same level to get the mission. Keep in mind though you can unshroud after the task is gotten. There doesn't seem to be any level checks except for the initial task retrieval. I ended up trying that for the annoying fact that the pretask for level 85-89 is in fungal forest and my toons arent flagged for that lol. The quest will even say "Frostfell - Operation Jolliness (By Any Means Necessary) for levels __-___)" where as the one i did was for 50-59.

enjoy!

There seems to be a fair bit of hidden code with this task.

IF you get the task while shrouded, you are only flagged for the level of the task at which you gained the pretask. AKA: You shroud to level 10, get the pretask, deshroud, complete the pretask, do the end task dialog while not shrouded. You are flagged for the level 10 version of the group task. To get that group task, everyone in the group must shroud to level 10. You can then and ONLY then get the group task. I have not yet experimented with the end task results, or the level of the mobs in the task if I get it as a level 70 shroud.

As previously noted, the task has some very tight level limits. Not quite as bad as the recent halloween task series, but they're there.

Also, the task locks as soon as you hail Jaxon.

One horribly annoying part of this task is that for 85-89, the pretask is happy frogs in fungal forest. To get to fungal forest, as last I knew, you have to be UF flagged for all 6 tier-X tasks. So, you either have to have friends to flag you in a hurry, buy taskadds, OR slog through 20ish pre-tasks n group tasks.

On the plus side.... The potions gained from the shrouded pre-tasking are usable for higher level tasks. AKA, you shroud to 10, do the pre-task, get the potion, go off get the level 85-89 version of the task, finish it using the potion from level 10. This works. Well, I know for certain that using the potion from level 70 pre-task works for the 85-89 version. Atleast it did before this last patch....

We were a group of four level 90, a 90 merc and a 88 and had done the pretask with two of the 90's. We couldn't get mission without dropping the 88 because it said our average were too low.
So we did the pretask with the 88 in The fungal forest (happy frogs) and then we could all do it.

The level 88 had to request the mission.

Random info that might be helpful.

at level 90 the chest reward was 5x snowball and a mask of the grumpy goblin (same as the one received from the prior year task line).

None of the quest mobs saw invis.

The mephit jester, Brok Karkenthug, Jeggo and Feklin were not affected by Bucolic Mind but did mezz and slow ok.

Dragon cast Freezing Breath and occasionally AE page.

To eliminate the magical aura around the door, you need to be in proximity to the door and click the scroll. To administer the potion, you give it to Santug.

The Chest appeared near Jaxon.

the task appears to have a 6 hour lockout timer.
