Anniversary events tend to run from mid-March to mid-April (sometimes to mid-May) each year. They are not available during the "off season".

For an overview and list of EverQuest Anniversary events, see this quest entry.

This is a group task that made its debut with EverQuest's 11th anniversary. It is expected to only remain available during the anniversary/fabled period.

The task is given by a gnome named Miggles Mistflinger in the Plane of Knowledge. He's found at 35, -250, -157 (between the Plane of Tranquility and Qeynos portal stones).

You say, 'Hail, Miggles Mistflinger'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'Yes, you will do. You will do [nicely].'

You say, 'Nicely...?'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'Excuse me for my rudeness. I am Miggles. I have a big problem and you look like you could [handle] it for me.'

You say, 'What's there to handle?'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'It is a long story, but I will try to keep it short. You see, I was recently an apprentice to one named Karl. Unfortunately, I was rejected by my master, Karl, just a few short weeks into my apprenticeship. He ordered me to master the power of the [great seas], the strength of water.'

You say, 'Great seas?'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'Well, the problem is, I am just not that kind of wizard. I would much rather prefer to look for patterns in the clouds, take a long walk on the beach, or listen to the gentle pitter-patter of the rain. So Karl [replaced] me with someone named Kert.'

You say, 'What do you mean he 'replaced you'?'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'I will get to the point. I want revenge. Well, revenge might be too strong of a word. What I really want is my old [name] back and lose the fear that Karl might call in my contract.'

You say, 'Your old name?'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'You see, each of Karl's apprentices are required to sign a [contract] stipulating that Karl gets to choose our new surname. Oh, and it also allows him to demand our labors for five years total, divided in any way he chooses. I don't like either part of this contract and would like to change my surname back to Merrypants.'

You say, 'A contract?'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'Yes, I know I made a mistake signing that contract, but it is done. Please help me by confronting Karl and convincing him to let me out of my contract. I don't have much, but I will reward you as well as I can for your [assistance].'

You say, 'My assistance?'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'Karl lairs deep beneath Freeport in the sewer system. It likely won't be easy reaching him. He is a master tinker and has a small army of clockworks to protect him. I do, however, have a [friend] on the inside and he would be willing to help you get to Karl.'

You say, 'A friend?'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'Yes, his name is Gilamin. I believe he wishes to study Karl's clockworks. So if you can help him with that, he will provide you with the necessary knowledge to reach Karl. Will you [help] me?'

You say, 'I will help you'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'You will? Oh, thank you. Please enter the Freeport Sewers and see if you can get Karl to cancel my contract. Remember to meet with Gilamin first though. Are you ready to [go]?'

You have been assigned the task 'Stealing My Life Back'.

You say, 'Ready to go!'

Miggles Mistflinger says 'Ok, good luck and be careful!'

You enter an instanced version of the Freeport Sewers.

Mobs encountered in this zone seem to hit for ~4,300 while named can hit for ~8,000 and have various AEs (up to 20,000 in AE and 35,000 in single-target without any spellshield).

Speak with Gilamin 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Gilamin is a gnome near the zone-in area.

You say, 'Hail, Gilamin'

Gilamin says 'You the ones that Miggles sent? Good. Now listen close. You help me, and I will [help] you.'

You say, 'You want help?'

Gilamin says 'I am here to study Karl's clockworks and I require some parts. Collect ten fancy clockwork gears and ten clockwork batteries from any clockworks you defeat in here and return them to me. If you need to [go] back to New Tanaan tell me and I can send you there.'

Deliver 10 Fancy Clockwork Gears to Gilamin 0/10 (Freeport Sewers)

Deliver 10 Fancy Clockwork Batteries to Gilamin 0/10 (Freeport Sewers)

The above 20 items drop from random mobs in the zone.

Speak with Gilamin 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Kill 1 Fangbot 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Fangbot spawns at 505, -877, -98 (in a cubby off the north-central room). There are several spiders in this room that you'll want to clear out first.

Loot the Central Processor Unit from its corpse.

Kill 1 An Angry Helibot 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

The angry helibot spawns at 331, -1600, -86 (in the eastern part of the zone - the large room between the two zone-outs to East Freeport). It casts a frontal AE called "Rotor Buffet":

Rotor Buffet: Directional 200', Chromatic (-650)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 20000
2: Stun (3.00 sec)
3: Knockback

Loot the Central Processor Unit from the helibot's corpse.

Kill 1 Mecha Tron 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

NOTE: The task locks upon this kill.

Mecha Tron spawns at 165 -165, -101 (north rectangular room near the zone-in - first cubby on the left). It casts a spell called "Mecha Charge":

Mecha Charge: Single Target, Magic (-700)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 35000
2: Unknown #380 (100/5/0)

Loot the Central Processor Unit from the Mecha Tron's corpse.

Deliver 3 Central Processing Units to Gilamin 0/3 (Freeport Sewers)

Speak with Gilamin 0/1(Freeport Sewers)

Kill 1 Version One 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Kill 1 Version Two 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Kill 1 Version Three 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Kill 1 Version Four 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Version One spawns at 650, -975, -90 (the other small room near Fangbot's spawnpoint).

Version Two spawns at 109, -120, -98 (in the same location as you found Mecha Tron - first cubby on the left from the zone-in point).

Version Three spawns at 442, 1328, 86 (rectangular room in the middle of the zone).

Version Four spawns in the same room as the Angry Helibot.

Each has an AE called "Oil Splash":

Oil Splash: PB AE 50', Magic (-650)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 9000 to 12500 (random)
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 850 to 1250 (random) per tick

Speak with Karl Kranigan 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Karl Kranigan spawns at 665, -1465, -82 (eastern most of the cluster of five small rooms) along with four "an exterminator" mobs.

You say, 'Hail, Karl Kranigan'

Karl Kranigan says 'Why have you come here and destroyed my beautiful creations? I want [answers]!'

You say, 'You're not going to get any answers!'

Karl Kranigan says 'If you want a fight, you've got one!'
an exterminator says 'Intruder alert! Intruder alert! Initiating attack mode!'

Defend Yourself against Karl and his minions! 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

All five mobs can be split from one another and can be killed in any order. The exterminators are mezzable and rootable/snareable. Karl Kranigan goes inactive at 20% health. The exterminators remain aggro until death.

Speak with Miggles Mistflinger 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Miggles spawns at the zone-in point.

Open Miggles' generous gift! 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

A steel chest spawns with a random aug, one of four possible augs:

Gem of the Eleventh Defender
Gem of the Eleventh Duelist
Gem of the Eleventh Scholar
Gem of the Eleventh Seer

Also upon completion, a reward window pops up. You can choose one of the following:

Flattened Ring Gear
Hammered Gear Casing
Kranigan's Belt
Kranigan's Control Ring
Kranigan's Instruction Manual
Leather Diaphragm
Mantle of Mesh
Platinum Companion's Pinion Gear
Group Leadership (1 LAA)
Experience
A Favor (select a faction increase from numerous factions from DoN and onward)

Unlike other instances/raids/expeditions where I only received the achievement, this actually gave me the reward (faction/exp or other an item). So it was nice and I wish I knew as I would have added many of my alts instead :-) too.

At 115 it was really easy. I would suggest no mercs and only one person hitting Karl or you will 1 shot him pretty easy.

Also, the adds he has, stay aggroed even after he has said "thats enough, alright" and de-aggros. You still have to kill those, and then head to the zone in to do the final hail.

I got all the way to Karl and he just keeps spitting insults back at me. I ran through and killed everything in the zone, just in case, but still nothing.

Gonna try again tomorrow once the lock-out lifts. I'll post it anything changed.

Don't Kill Karl!
# Mar 09 2014 at 11:32 PM Rating: Decent
Our Ranger got a head shot off on Karl before he went inactive at 20%. Karl didn't go inactive, he just died. Problem is killing Karl does not update the quest!

"Defend yourself against Karl" never updates so no loot.

Don't let Rangers, Rogues, or any other insta kill class fight Karl.
Poor Karl
# Apr 02 2013 at 9:42 PM Rating: Good
He has been decapitated and headshotted. He needs to drop agro sooner like Cazic-Thule does. Or maybe put a DI on himself.

Or respawn would be nice. Just wasted an hour.

Here's a few important things to note about this mission.

You will definitely want to kill all the mobs you can in the areas of and leading up to all the named spawn points. The less trash you have to deal with after the hand-in the easier it will be drudging back and forth after every kill. if you can set a campfire near the gnome it will save you a LOT of time.
The trash will add and assist each other in pairs even with as much as 50+ feet separating them, and are social if they are too close on a pull measured in distance not line of sight. Unsure if they are charmable, but this may make things easier than CC for a few higher level players to romp through.
An 85 mercenary had few problems tanking two with lower level healing. Brought 6500AC, 70k hp tank the next run and walked through 3 to 4 at a time with mobs hitting 1300's mostly.
For those who don't know, you cannot climb the ladder to the entrance if you are levitated. Click off Lev or SoE.
Evac will now take you to the top left corner of the sewers map where you have no purpose being. The mobs below that area see invis, are stacked thick, and all will come if you aren't very careful or heal from the top of the entrance. Just port to PoK and run back to the gnome or use a campfire if you don't want to run back through sewers.
The spider room for the Fangbot has 4 little spiders in it, and 4 more in the room further down the hall. I recommend killing them all while you are there. They often drop batteries and you don't want them up for the next stage. Same for everything in Karl's room.
Neither the Hellibot nor Mecha Tron's nuke abilities are procs. With weaker tank/DPS we saw 2 nukes each, with better DPS and tank we saw only one each. Circle around the Hellibot as much as possible before charging to ensure the directional AE doesn't tag your group and have the tank put his back to a wall.
Karl can be hailed and given his "answers" from out in his hall without agroing anyone allowing a safe pull.
Lastly, the exterminators, as well as Karl, all summon. If you use root CC this can be a real problem. make SURE to designate a Main Assist before root pulling if you are using a DPS merc of either stripe or it will get messy quick when he randomly picks a target to die to.

- Task locks after -Kill 1 Mecha Tron- the 7th steps-

Lockout Timer on this task is 19 hours 30 minutes, and starts as soon as you open the chest at the end.

For people with little time available who need as many augs from this as possible, considering most mobs are light blues and pretty easy with HoT at level 90 I recommend doing it twice with 2 groups of 3 instead.

I did it 8 times so far and only got the seer & scholar aug not sure if they are more common than duelist & defender but they sure seem.

Enjoy!

I have 3 boxed this mission 10 times. I have seen 3 Duelist, 3 Scholar, & 4 Seer augs. The last 3 in a row have all been Seer. If not for an excited guildie linking the Defender aug in GChat I would think it a hoax. So yes, the Defender aug at least is much rarer than the other 3. My sample of 10 doesn't support the Duelist being rare but combined with your sample of 8 it appears to be uncommon with the Defender being rare to non-existent.

We tried this last night, Mostly T7 geared friends, non-raiding guild and all have 2,500-3500 aa. We plowed through all the mobs in zone easily and killed each of the named with no problem (Beastlord Tank - 42k hp 4,4k AC). Our group consisted of me 85 BST, 85 WIZ, 85 SHM, 85 mage, and two cleric mercs. The shaman was a bot so we had no primary real healer. Beastlords can FD now too so I singled out the guy at the end, we killed him first and finished without having to kill any exterminators.

this mission was a blast. you dont need a puller really. just plow throught it. Though we are in T7 group gear.

all but one name you can pre-clear and the final boss can be sigled with a puller.

i wish it would last longer than just a few weeks.
Faction?

Has anyone taken the faction hit rewards? I'm curious how big of a step this is and if it is worth doing for some of the SoD factions that you want to hit Ally for type 3 augs and spells.

I used the Faction rewards for Mitius, Herald of Change and got from kindly to warmly after 3-4 missions IIRC. I don't know how much into kindly I was to begin with on this character but had not done too many Tosk. missions except for progression.
Can U do This?
# Mar 31 2010 at 1:49 AM Rating: Decent
the mobs in this zone are on par with mobs in korsacian warrens or tosk in terms of trash, the named aren't much worse in terms of meele dps, what u need to watch for is thier nukes, u need a tank with enough hp's that he can survive a 20k dd and a 26k dd and still get a hit or 2 on top, fast heals will do this )

*helpfull hints*
* when fighting the second named pull it to the fork in the tunnel and have ur tank put his back to the wall, this will prevent aoe directional dmg from being a problem as well as knock-back

* second tip is while u play through the mission , have someone loot the extra gear and batteries, they can be used for a fast turn in the next time u do the mission, this seems to cut a good 1/3rd of the time it takes to do the mission out.

* good puller or mexxer is key to keeping this mission easy if u dont have the gear to tank 2 or 3 4.5k hitters
Well geared??
# Mar 30 2010 at 12:07 PM Rating: Decent
Just sort of wondering here. Seems as though you need to be decently geared to complete this task but the items that are given as a reward sort of counter that assumption. Other than the first poster no one has really mentioned the type of gear they have when completing this quest. Anyone wanna help out with that?

--EDIT--

So I just did this with a Shadow Knight, Enchanter, Cleric, Cleric Merc, Bard and Wizard. SK had 40k hp buffed and 6100 AC. It was extremely easy, only a bit time consuming.

Helibot hit us with the AE on pull and took everyone in the group down to about 60%ish, only hit us for 13k damage each.

Only problem we had was on Karl, adds killed me (cleric) and our T5 cleric merc was able to heal through it alone rather easily.

At the point where you have to kill the Versions and Karl, a few of them spawn with "friends". We found last night that CC is a MUST, BUT not a defining factor. If you have an evacing classe (Wizzy/Druid) you can pull the mobs (and named) away from their spawn point and SNARE/ROOT them in another room you pulled to. Then simply Evac and run back over to them and the named will simply have roamed back leaving the "friends" to fend for themselves. Pretty simple really and effective if done correctly. Hope this helps!
Use FD, Karl hangs around
# Apr 25 2011 at 2:52 PM Rating: Decent
I have done this mission 10 times with ease at level 86, 3 boxing War, Dru, Mnk, + T5 mercs. I set up for this step in the room/hallway formerly occupied by the 2 dwarves and pull Karl and the exterminators. Karl paths back last on an FD every time. Tag and beat to 20%. I repeat. Pull them all and FD, Karl will eventually wander back but the exterminators are long gone before that happens. No risk. No fuss. No trouble. Easy win.
Karl update
# Mar 28 2010 at 4:32 AM Rating: Good
This step is not really correct:Speak with Karl Kranigan 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Karl Kranigan spawns at 665, -1465, -82 (eastern most of the cluster of five small rooms) along with four "an exterminator" mobs (mezzable; rootable/snareable).

You say, 'Hail, Karl Kranigan'

Karl Kranigan says 'Why have you come here and destroyed my beautiful creations? I want [answers]!'

You say, 'You're not going to get any answers!'

Karl Kranigan says 'If you want a fight, you've got one!'
an exterminator says 'Intruder alert! Intruder alert! Initiating attack mode!'

Defend Yourself against Karl and his minions! 0/1 (Freeport Sewers)

Beat him down to 20% at which point he goes inactive. The exterminators keep attacking.
-----------------------

Correction: After hail, Karl and exterminators become killable. You can then split & pull the exterminators singly.
...then kill Karl singly.

Group consisted of level 85 Wizard, Paladin, Enchanter, Cleric, Shaman, Merc healer.

We found that it was easier to clear the entire zone during the "collection" phase since the mobs didn't respawn. That way you need not deal with surprise adds. :)

The exterminators are not "linked" to Karl, so you can use various methods available to your group to single pull Karl. When he hits 20% he will emote and walk back to his spawn point.

When doing the various "Versions", we found that having the Pally "charge" in and turn the mob kept the group out of any AE, it is directional.

We found the mission fun, and the rewards nothing to sneeze at for those not in "Tower" or UF gear. :) The Augs are also well worth the effort. :)

Yes, the exp here is practically non-existant. An even con mob in this instance will give similar exp as killing a green mob in a regular non-hot zone.

However, the augs are sick and really what it's about (though i dont think giving mobs exp on par with other zones of it's difficulty or even a slight boost seeing as that it's a special event would destroy the infrastructure of exp in the game).

Did anyone else have trouble with the first 20 items you need to get? 10 battaries and 10 gears. I had to quit the task and restart it because I got one battery for every 10 gears. I literally ran out of mobs (luckily they are prelootable, so i've got over 70 gears bagged up for future missions, though it's pretty useless cause i'll have 150 gears before i get another 10 battaries).

Also, make sure who ever is pulling for your group has levi on, being that it's old world, it has that HORRID clipping problem where while running through the round brick sewered part you'll either get stuck on the wall or keep auto-ducking depending on if you have auto duck turned on or off. Gets annoying without levi (seriously Sony, in 11 years you couldnt add the 3 lines of code needed to fix those clipping problems?)
