Speak with Uner Gnarltrunk at Tagglefoot's Farmstead. He will tell you that clumsy old Deputy Tagil stepped on some veggies and has forgotten to pay for them. He will then send you to Tagil with note to remind him of his debt. He is in Misty Thicket guarding the entrance to Rivervale. Give him note when you find him and he will give you payment which you need to take back to Uner for experience, a random reward, and the follow faction changes: Storm Reapers, Mayor Gubbin and Merchants of Rivervale get better, Unkempt Druids gets worse.

Need all dialogues, current faction hits, additional rewards, /loc of quest mobs, missing quest items.

This must be a recent change. I've done this quest literally 200 times over the past three years -- I consider it sort of a tradition between me and Tagil that I hit him up any time I find a reason to visit Rivervale -- and I swear every time I got either the pine needles, the potion, or sometimes nothing (except coin). Tonight I was in town and after my traditional errand I got a carrot?! I did it three more times and got another carrot and two fishing poles.

I wonder if this means they removed the pine needles from the game? Has anyone got a set saved away so they can check if they've vanished or morphed into something else? For that matter, does this quest ever still give the potion? It would be a shame if that went away. I guess I'll continue my tradition and will update here if I ever see anything but carrots and fishing poles.

Update: Well, I got a different reward, but it's still not either of the old rewards. Tonight he gave me a Mistletoe. I even checked the EQ ID# and it's the same as the kind you can buy from NPCs for 1s.

Hail, Uner Gnarltrunk

You say, "Who is Deputy Tagil?"
Uner Gnarltrunk says, Deputy Tagil is a fine young halfling who serves the vale well. But the other day, chasing that dirty Nillipus, he trampled some fresh jumjum. He promised to make amends but it must have slipped his mind. Please take this note to him as a friendly reminder.

/say hail %T
/pause 9
/say who is deputy tagil

and one hotbutton of the box that the payment from the guard dropped into

hope it helps bye

I did the Deputy Tagil request 14 times last night and received between 14 cp and 4sp18cp each time, and a total of 8 pine needles and 6 of the potions of wisdom...Looking at the description above leads me to believe I would need to be level 39 for the effect to work-yes, no or maybe so??? I hate to think I'm going to have to hold on to them for so long as they don't stack-but I'm sure not going to sell them!

This quest (unless they nerfed it) is great for a low level character, no need to run near any nasty MoB's & I had recieved some items that sold for 4pp from finishing this quest. Since the 2 NPC's are so close together you could do this a ton of times & build up a small fortune for you level to help with buying better equipment.

And for the one who's asking where Deputy Tagil is, you have to zone in Misty Thicket, he's right there at the entrance.

First off yes you get Pine Needles that sell for 4 copper. But he will give you Wisdom Potion that jumps Wisdom&Int +6 each pretty good if your doing skill trade. But here is best part keep them till you facion is maxed i repeat till maxed allied faction and sell 40 of these and woot you have 40 platium for lvl 4 now that rocks if you ask me.I plan on doing this till i get all my lvl 1 and 5 spells and full armor and then off buy wisdom rings +4 wisdom 6 plat per pair.Earrings + 4 wisdom per pair 35 to 40 plat per pair.Lets see my halfling wisdom would jump from 110 to 116 drining a potion and then +8 more with gear wow 124 wisdom as newbie what more you want that is awesome # till you get up in lvls.Happy hunting to all halfling druids.
Pine Needles?

Ok, here's the skinny, good faction does help if you are not a druid, second of all, why gripe about the potions, they only last for an hour, and selling stacks of stuff to vendors while fighting will bring home the bacon faster. I mainly would do it for the experience and hope to get something good; but as always if there is something really good in EverQuest, Verant will Nerf it.

I did this quest as a Level 1 druid, and I think it was the quickest way to Level 2. All you do, is talk to the NPC (say Who is Deputy Tagil?), then run across the zone border to Deputy Tagil, give him the note. Right here he gives you and entire gold bub of exp if you're level one. Then run back to Gnarltrunk and give him the coin. He also gives you and entire gold bub of exp, plus coin (anywhere from 4 copper to a few gold I think) plus an item (carrot, mistletoe, fishing pole, pine needles, or a potion worth almost 1 pp). Great way for a level 1 -2 to earn money. I did this fives times and leveled my lev 1 (20 minutes max).

When you get a bracket with a name in you ask Who is____? As in "Who is Deputy Tagil?". A note will then appear on your cursor which you can put away. Then simply give the note to Tagil and he'll give you the coin, return and give the coin for your reward

Remeber when replying you are most oft ask "Who is___?" or "What is____?"

Ok I just looked on a faction list and tried to figure this out but i'm still a bit pondered. What druids are these (the Unkempt Druids whos faction lowers by completion of this quest)?? and if i do this how will it effect me (a lvl 3 halfling druid). I guess i just want to make sure i'm not gonna be "shooting myself in the foot" by doing this quest.

If anyone knows, plz post =) i'd like to do this til 5 if it is a good quest.
Thanks!

I tried this quest today, and found Deputy Tagil where he was supposed to be, but his name showed up as "!Deputy Tagil" and he took the note but gave no response. I had the same problem with another quest in Rivervale today as well - the stew quest. Deputy Lowbot had an exclamation mark in front of his name, and took the quest item without giving a response (well, he said "Thanks for the stew"). I was playing on the Firiona Vie server - could some of these quests be disabled on that server?

I believe when they have an exclamation mark in their name they are disabled. Watch out before you give any NPC stuff when they have that in the name.

I used this quest to lvl from 4 to 5. You can do this quest from 1 all the way to 5 if you want to. It gives great exp, and the stuff sells pretty good. The only bad part is you don't get to practice any of your skills, such as 1H blunt and such. But, that will cure itself after 5 when you start fighting. If you get a SoW, it makes it work even better. I have a slow load time before zones, and it still works great. A must for any newbie Halflings.

Drinking the potion results the "insight" enchanter buffing taking effect. Poitions seem to be the rare reward, ranking right up with a fishing pole as the other rare. It seemed that the more rare items came when i was a level 1 starting to repeat this quest. As i leveled the number of rare rewards dropped significantly.

Fools I do not know what your problems are or if they changed something but I did the qeust from lvl 1 - 4 and I got 4 POTIONS of Wisdom in all and 2 Fishing Poles, yes I suppose they are rare as you put it drop but, I ran back and forth doing the quest with my Halfling Druid and got a potion about 1 per lvl I gained doing the quest. Now I do not know if they WORK because I have not drunk one yet but I know you can get them just by doing the quest a bit.

Quest info needs to be changed to reflect that this quest is best suited for druids, not all classes.

I have a 24lvl druid who did this quest around the sixth level a few times. About the third time I turned in the coin to Uner I recieved a Potion of Wisdom. WOW! I said, but als it wouldn't work!
I was extremly dissapointed. I petitioned later on that day only to be told to hold on to it until it was fixed. Well that was about 2-3 months ago. There has been a minor change in the item since the last patch though, now it state in the item discription. Charges: 1 (this was not here before) but of course it still does not work

Carrots seem to be the most frequent. Out of 8 times running it I received 5 carrots, 1 mistletoe, 1 bandage and 1 fishing pole (go figure).

This quest is great at low levels. From levels 1-3 I received a half bubble for its completion each time. Not bad. At level 4 I received almost nothing so I am assuming that is its cut off point unless you just want to continue it as you pass in and out of Rivervale for some extra coin.

I started in Rivervale and did a circuit of quests every time I hit town. Why not? I started this one, grabbed the carrots, made the delivery, got the stew made the delivery, ran out and dropped off the note on my way to hunt. When I got a full inventory and an empty mana bar I went in and sold at the Druid farm (slightly better prices than in Misty and i had to let mana regen anyway) dropped off the coins and did the circuit again. AT low levels these NO RISK quests can add greatly to a young halflings bankroll and even some experience.

I have done this many times in other characters. But I am now trying to do this with my Barbarian Warrior. I get the same message of needing more experience for him to trust me.
I am doing the "Julian's Stew" quest by taking the rotten carrots to Blinza and just keep giving them to her. She complains but gives them back including good faction. I gave them about 100 times and have raised 2 levels (faction not XP).

Yes, this easy exp for a newbie. In fact, at level 1 you can make it to level 2 in about 5 minutes just making this trip a few times.

I'm not sure I'd recommend doing it all the way to level 4 without working on your skills some. You'd might find things difficult at 4 and your skills still at 1. You'd also be rather poor.

a good quest for low level players if you have the faction to get it. I saw one player do nothing but the quest and jump from level 1 to 3 in a short time.

Occasionally when I did this as a newbie I got some nice items, including a potion of wisdom.
