What shield drops here? And what is the deal with the Dragoon's walking around? One killed me yesterday. I was in HIE form though. If I used DE illusion would I still be attacked?

Ok I am a lvl 31 Iksar necro on Bertoxx and i tried this quest today. Gathered shadow to get past the Poo-Golem and the dragoons, coned the captain and he was indifferent to me but the marines were scowling. I tried invis vs undead captain was still indiff and marines were indiff so i tried to give the captain the braids..... got killed. After redinging 31 I had an idea. Call of Bones has a skele illusion attached to it. Now the captain and his goons are skele so if I'm a skele I should, by logic, be able to face them without getting donkey punched upside the head. Can anyone verify weather or not this will work?

This will not work. I just hit lvl 34, and tried CoB. They are still KoS. Only other thing I can think of is, maybe wolf form. Going to try that tonight if I can.

    NO not wolf form!
    # Jul 22 2002 at 9:29 PM Rating: Default
If you are KOS wolf form will not help. What was I thinking when I brought my wolf druid up to the gargoyles to see if I'd be ok to turn in braids???
I passed them in the hall and I couldn't get out, too many hits. That's what I get for playing like a newb.
    Method #2 nerfed =/
    # Mar 01 2002 at 12:40 PM Rating: Default
On my previous post about ways to do the shipyard quest they made one of the marines resist harmony. So that marine either has to be killed or you cant do the quest or you could pull rottgrime and have a enc mez him. If hes mezzed technically he should give the faction for the quest when you turn in the braids invis.

Also a little update on what dragons give +Venril Sathir...Trakanon does not give +VS sadly but all the rest that i listed do.

If you are really determined to get your VS faction up like me the best way to go about it is to camp faydedar and get faction hits when people do him for the druid epic. The oasis faydedar not the real one that spawns at the spires.

So far I have gotten 11 or so hits and i need about 9 more so if this way works i will let you all know.

2 ways to raise VS faction from scowl to dubious(to amaible)
    # Jan 23 2002 at 12:48 PM Rating: Default
Here are the 2 and only 2 ways that you can raise your faction from bottomed out kos to VS to nonkos(dubious)

    1. Method one - kill 20+ dragons that give +VS hits..Trakanon(OS), Talendor(SF), Gorenaire(DL), Severelious(EJ),Faydedar(TD)(spawned fay for drood epic gives +VS faction), Esorpa of The Rings(WW), and Hoshkar(VP).
Each dragon kill gives 100 points of faction and 2000 points is required to get to dubious. Another 500 to 600 to get amiable.

    2. Method two - Get a druid to harmony Rottgrime and someone to either invis or invis vs undead you after you have opened the trade window with with rottgrime. If you try to open the trade window with rott when you are invised he will attack you. Be sure to take off invis before opening the trade window.
This method tends to be risky and you will die a few times doing it this way but its a lot easier than trying to get dragon hits.
Also each succesful quest gives 4 points to VS faction. So 2000 divided by 4 thats alot heh.

I am currently doing both of these methods more so of the second ones if you have any questions about it give me a tell in game

I did the braids quest til I was barely indifferent. Then I killed Severilous. I still had to do the braids quest ten more times to get to amiable. It's 100 points from indifferent to amiable (0-99 is indifferent). Then it took 12 more braids quests to get to warmly (with Benevolence). That's also 100 points.

Thus... 8 pts to Venril Sathir for the braids quest and between 17 - 27 for the dragon. I'll guess 20 for the dragon.

I don't understand your faction scoring ideas but it DOESN'T take 500 sets of braids to go all the way to amaible form dubously or even 125 if thats what you mean and i am aprehinsive after like 8 sets of braids i think but not billions (overstatment hehe) i think that covers #2 i have apsolutly no idea about #1 though

    # Apr 28 2002 at 5:56 PM Rating: Default
There is a point with faction where you get a "can not get any worse" message. From that point to non KOS is 2000 points of faction. There's a LOT of killing between when you hit "scowling" and whn you bottom out. SO where you're at, will probably take a lot less than 2000 faction points.
    RE: uhhh no
    # Jun 23 2002 at 9:00 AM Rating: Default
Now it has changed. If you get the 'cannot get any worse' message, it also means that you can NEVER get it higher. It remains bottomed out forever and you are stuffed, unfortunately.

Ok exactly WHICH critters in KC and HS are NOT on VS faction? reason i ask is, i have every intention of getting my Cazic cleric praised and adored in Cab, FV (it can be done, i've seen iksar shadowknights in the ranger guild in FV, and the clerics of tunare think she's the cats PJ's) and OT. However, i'm told there are a few mobs here and there in KC that are on a different faction, making my grand scheme to walk into the room with VS, ggiving him a hug, and retrieving my dead buddies a little difficult. I've heard short dogs are some of them, but which others?

i realize i've put my mind to a very tedious journey but i'm patient... unless of course the caps have been changed...
    An Idea... untested
    # Dec 03 2001 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
ok some people just like doing realy hard things in this game (like that dorf pally that spent a week getting ally faction in cabalis). So if your bored or want to try somthing new here is an idea for ANYONE to get faction up with VS.

Step 1: Get 8 10slot bags or boxes (sold at the iglue in IC, dont use wolfform there). Use mules or whatever you have to do to empty out ALL spaces except 2 for food and drink. Fill these slots with war-braids. 8 bags x 10 slots = 80. You should have 78 braids.

Step 2: Get a druid. Befriend the druid. Tell the druid how leet his kiting skillz are. Have the druid come with you to the shipyard.

here is the trick getting in: Harmony. Harmony is a very low druid/ranger spell that is 100% UNRESISTABLE and 100% NON-AGRO (I went up to Plain of Growth and casted Harmony on Tunare herself. NO AGRO - NO RESIST). It basically makes mobs who would normally attack you, NOT attack (unless you attack them). Duration is about 60 to 120 seconds, though I have never timed it. It CAN be chain casted, and the effects are AOE.

I have used harmony to get KOS people through SS, walking right by see-invis mobs. The method is a bit time consuming, but works well when done right. Just hamrony any mobs you need to pass, that you cant invis past.

Step 3: turning in the braids.
Many of us know of the trick where you can use invis to turn in items to an NPC that would otherwise not respond to you. for those that dont, here it is: group with a caster that has invis. Have them invis you. Click the item onto the NPC to open the 'Give' window, but DONT click give yet. Have the caster invis you AGAIN, then click give. the NPC will respond as if you had indiff faction.

The problem for this quest is that the Captain would attack you once he found out you were there. The jewel I am giving you is this: Keep him harmonied. He won't attack. Keep any mobs in the area harmonied as well to be safe. Harmony, harmony and harmony some more. Remember to RE-harmony each mob (use /showspelleffects on to see if aoe hit surrounding mobs) at least every 50 seconds or so. If harmony drops, your both donefor, so dont let it drop.

After turning in all 78 braids, /con the captain. You may need to load up with another 78 braids before you get to non-KOS. A Tunare Druid will most likely need 2 to 4 loads of them.

Keep in mind I have not tested this method yet, but plan to after I finish my epic. The ability to port directly into a bank is handy for everyone, even a druid (yes I am that lazy). Good luck to all, and post your success stories here.

    How to become non-KOS

If you have the sneak skill and a non-KOS friend, you can get the non-KOS friend to hail the guy so he faces the same way as all his friends, then sneak behind him and turn in the tails. Getting to the guy without being attacked (even in sneak mode) is a royal pain. If you have sneak AND feign death or some other way of becoming completely undetectable by the quest guy, you can wait in a certain place for him to make his rounds at night and sneak behind him and give him the items, but this is extremely dangerous and is also a royal pain in the butt. Again, a non-KOS friend is a great boon for doing this.

If you don't have sneak or charm and are KOS to Venril Sathir (Overthere Outpost faction), then there is absolutely no way to fix your faction EXCEPT by using the puppet strings from Fear Plane. Most people who get these strings (which may not drop anymore according to rumors) use them directly on the hammer quest guy. It should be noted that he tends to resist the charm, so a friend with spells to lower his magic resistance is a definite plus. This method is very much a team effort sort of thing.

If you ever want to fix your VS faction, stay the heck away from Charasis (a.k.a. Howling Stones). The faction hits for VS are huge there.

How many turn ins of braids raise each faction con
    # Sep 27 2001 at 1:54 PM Rating: Excellent
    Hello,
Just did this quest. I am a rogue and in Dark Elf form I conned dubious to the Outpost. I kept track of how many times I turned in 4 braids to reach each higher faction level. Since I started at Dubious, it is not a good count, because I am not sure how deep into dubious I was. But, once I was apprehensive, it took me 12 turn ins of 4 braids (48 braids if you don't want to do the math) to get to indifferent. From indifferent, it took me 12 turn ins of 4 braids to get to amiable. So, at least as of Today Sept 27th, 2001, it takes 12 turn ins to raise you one faction level. I noted the post the person made about how much he thought it might take, and I wanted to see, so kept detailed notes as I did it. Hope this helps someone.

P.S. I am still KOS in my halfling form, but got the Worker's Sledgemallet last night, so my berserker killing days are at an end heh. I set up a hot key to make me sneak hide very fast, and 9 out of ten times I can make it invis before the mobs at zone in sees me. I am going to take my chances, and stay KOS in halfling form, as like killing in Karnors and other Venril Sathir places. Love being able to get to Kunark by simply fighting a green mob, heh. :)

Nice of you to keep count :) As an agnostic Ogre Warrior I also started dubious. It was very quick (I didn't count) to get up to indifferent, then it took *much* longer to go to amiable, and then *HUGELY* much longer to rise to kindly. Given the pattern revealed here, I'm not going to bother aiming for ally, can't see any point really since I got the gate hammer at amiable.

As a barbarian rogue (Bristlebane), I've turned in roughly 100 braids so far and with the DE mask on I am now amiable to the outpost. I have the Worker's SledgeMallet but the only problem now is that without the mask I am still KoS...so I assume I still have a lot of work to do to get to dubious so I can use the Mallet or else I'll be killed.

    # Jul 16 2001 at 9:28 PM Rating: Default
OK the main reason to do this quest is to get your faction to Amiable.
When you are Amiable to OP faction you can do a quest for the workmans hammer, given from the skelly foreman near the 1/2 built ships.

Workmans hammer is a crappy stat 2HB hammer with a nice stat.

The Proc is Gate to a ship in the shipyard, handy to port to kunark, and very handy if you are stuck in hate and need to port out, can also be used in duels.
