This task has different spellings in-game ("Mecurial" vs "Mercurial").

This solo task begins with Peramin Longbottle at the zone-in area of the Underquarry (location -15, 150, -193).

You say, 'Hail, Peramin Longbottle'

Peramin Longbottle says 'If you need work - and you'll need to work if you want to survive for very long down here - I suggest you help me with my studies. Before Brell's mysterious disappearance, I was in charge of inspecting, identifying, and certifying all of the ore and stone that the Underquarry produced. But now, the workers of the Underquarry have risen against us, and are performing their tasks either too quickly or too slowly, or not at all. Some are now performing entirely new and different tasks, which may be weakening or disrupting the structure of Underfoot. I am determined to [learn] more about what is happening to the Underquarry before something terrible happens.'

You say, 'What's there to learn?'

Peramin Longbottle says 'One of the problems that has emerged is some workers in the Underquarry are tunneling into places where Brell had previously forbidden them to go, areas which Brell had never consecrated for mining or quarrying. As they plunge onward in contravention of Brell's will, they are uncovering some substances we have never seen before. Some of us believe that these materials should be fed back to the Primal Lava at once, as they are Brell's and we should not touch them. [Others], including myself, believe that for as long as Brell is not responding to us, we must strive to better understand what is happening here.'

You say, 'Others?'

Peramin Longbottle says 'We believe in finding our own answers at this point, rather than sticking our heads in the sand and pretending everything will be all right. Things are not all right. Brell never told us he was leaving, let alone when he might return, and things have been falling apart ever since. What if Brell has been banished or even killed by the other gods? What will become of us, and of Underfoot, then? It is no sedition to work towards a solution. We can not afford to turn away from Brell, lest he find us unworthy and never returns. We simply wish to [understand] what is happening here.'

You say, 'I wish to understand too'

Peramin Longbottle says 'There are things you can do to help me. One of them involves locating a genata named Goralf. He has been tunneling in places where he shouldn't, and has discovered a silvery, liquid substance lighter than mercury, which I have dubbed 'Mercuralite'. Goralf is a bit slow, and didn't understand that I only wanted to study the stuff. He became enraged and attacked us, at about the time when the entire stone quarry stopped following Clontik's orders; Clontik and I had no choice but to retreat. Will you go and try to [reason] with Goralf, and retrieve three samples of this Mercuralite stuff?'

You say, 'I'll go reason with him'

Peramin Longbottle says 'Thank you. No, really, thank you. If I'm right about this Mercuralite stuff, your assistance may be the deciding factor in keeping the reality of Underfoot from completely unraveling.'

You have been assigned the task 'Mercurial Metal'.

Peramin needs three samples of what she calls 'Mercuralite' for her studies.

Hail Goralf the Genati and learn about Mercuralite 0/1 (The Underquarry)

You say, 'Hail, Goralf'

Goralf says 'Uh? Why do you bother me? I collect the silver liquid, yes. I dig because Brell made me to dig. I dig where I must. This liquid came from the walls where I dig. It belongs to Brell, and I will keep it for him. Not for you. I do not collect it for you or for anyone but Goralf. Goralf waits for Brell. To Brell Goralf will give the liquid. Take it from me by force you must. Goralf has clockwork machines to help him keep Brell's holy silver liquid safe! They kill you now.'

Kill Goralf the Genati (if you can) 0/1 (The Underquarry)

Once you aggro Goralf, he spawns two adds: Erko and Kedo.

Kill Goralf's Clockwork Erko 0/1 (The Underquarry)

Kill Goralf's Clockwork Kedo 0/1 (The Underquarry)

Goralf, Erko, and Kedo can be split from one another. NOTE to high level players: You're not meant to kill Goralf here, but if you DPS him too fast, it will happen and bug the task. DPS him slowly until he turns into "Angry Goralf".

Kill Angry Goralf 0/1 (The Underquarry)

"Angry Goralf" spawns in place of Goralf.

Recover the Mercuralite you were sent to find 0/3 (The Underquarry)

Mercuralite drops from Angry Goralf, Erko, and Kedo.

Deliver 3 samples of Mercuralite to Peramin 0/3 (The Underquarry)

Speak with Peramin about your reward 0/1 (The Underquarry)

You say, 'Hail, Peramin Longbottle'

You have brought Peramin the three samples of Mercuralite that she asked for! She will now be able to learn many things, and may even find a way to reinforce the underpinnings of the Underquarry if Brell does not return.

This is miserable task if you are higher level. When I tried this with my 100 rogue, I killed Goralf then his two adds. After that I noticed that task had not updated "Kill Goralf" nor did Angry Goralf spawn. I am guessing because I killed him way too fast.

I had to drop the task and get a new one, because the first step of task did indeed update (Hail Goralf) so he would not respond to my hails and go aggro.

So now I had new task, Goralf repopped about after 20 mins and I thought I kill the two adds first. But before I could turn my back on Goralf, I assassinated him and same thing again.

Dropped the task again and requested it for the third time. This time I kept my back on Goralf already when I hailed him, killed the adds and then fisted him to death. That worked and Angry Goralf spawned. Him I killed normally.

Also notice if you have to redo this, you have to loot the Mercuralite again from adds. Having them on inventory from previous attemps does not count.

Not a bad quest to include in a rotation of Brell's Token/XP quests. Only took about ten minutes, there was no SI mobs that had to be cleared on way (just avoided)to Goralf, and him and his clockwork assistants can be pulled to near the top of the large ramp they spawn at without any adds from other mobs.

XP was a little over 1.5 AA's, with me having 3500

As stated prior the achievement lists this task as Mecurial Metal, however it does show up as Mercurial Metal in the in-game Quest Journal.

I was unable to find this quest via search as the name appears in the quest journal until I searched for "metal" then the quest showed up. Perhaps this page could be redirected to via a search for either spelling?

On another note given that increase in damage via levels and new spells I ended up having to repeat this quest because I would nuke Goralf from 25% to 0% causing him to die instead of despawn and return as Angry Goralf. Just fair warning for those trying to work on this if you're significantly higher level use small nukes or auto attack to get him in that 10-20% sweet spot for the update.

Cylius is right, the quest name is Mecurial Metal. Took a few mins to search the quest.

In-game, in the achievements window, this task is called "Mecurial Metal", here on alla it is "MeRcurial Metal", notice the extra "R", makes it hard to search for this task mispelled.

Through trial and error we learned the following:

1. You must have an FD puller (someone who hasn't done the task as he (or she) will not be able to get it again)to do the hail and then give Goralf a whack to spawn the adds.

2. Once he (or she) FDs, the adds and Goralf can be pulled single.

3. Angry Goralf will not agro until you attack him (which makes me wonder how angry he really is).

4. Only 3 mercuralite will drop during each task. Everyone can have the task and get kill credit, but you will have to do this each time for each person to get the drops. The Mercuralite drops from the two adds and from Angry Goralf (since Goralf doesn't really die).

I'm a FD puller but I wasn't sure what that meant at first. Doing this at solo (with merc) at 90, I hailed Goralf and he responded and immediately aggroed, so I whacked him but his pets never spawned. I beat him down to about 10-20% health, then he vanished and Angry Goralf appeared in his place. I killed Angry Goralf and checked the task: I had credit for both Goralfs, but not for the clockworks.

I waited for Goralf to repop and hailed him again, but he wouldn't respond and I wasn't allowed to attack him since I was past that step now. So I dropped the quest and started over.

This time when I hailed and he attacked, I went FD and let aggro clear, then stood. He was still indifferent but I was allowed to attack. (Aside: /raise if you remember the good old days when you could accidentally attack quest NPCs, like your class trainer?) I wasn't sure where the adds would appear when I smacked him, so I backed up the hill to look around. Turns out that's where they spawn: up the slope of the hill but off to either side. So I ended up fighting all three and had to FD again, this time to the great distress of my mercenary, but hey that's what I pay her for.

While waiting for her to get back from her union break, I checked out where the mobs had gone back to. They're far enough apart I could fight them singly where they stood, no pulling necessary. The clockworks are kos but don't see invis; Goralf sees invis but stays indifferent.

I saved Goralf for last, and he again poofed before I could finish him off, but when I killed Angry I got task credit for both.
