This shared task is the second of three tasks that begin with Thorbin the Elder in the Cooling Chamber. He is located near -170, -320, -25.

You say, 'Hail, Thorbin the Elder'

Thorbin the Elder says 'Well, hello again. I'm glad that you have returned. You've probably noticed that stopping the laborer from corrupting the reagents and purifying them doesn't appear to have fixed our overheating [troubles]. There appears to be another problem. Workers have told me that some of their cooling sticks don't get cold anymore. They have asked me to fix them, but I just don't understand what's wrong with them. Perhaps you can [figure] it out for me?'

You say, 'I can try and figure it out for you'

Thorbin the Elder says 'All I know right now is that the cooling sticks are not having their full effect. Usually their magic cools the water and triggers the effects of our special chemical mixture to cool the water even further. Our sticks have never failed us before. Please find out what the problem is. The water that leaves these chambers must be very cold, near freezing in fact. As our water gets warmer the glacier melts more. As you may have noticed, the ice in the final chamber is nearly gone. That means that the water we are providing for so many realms isn't doing what it needs to do. Cold regions will warm! Cool water will no longer refresh those in need! Will you [fix this] for us? It's critically important that this warming not continue.'

You say, 'I will try and fix this for you'

Thorbin the Elder says 'Wonderful! You've proven your ability already, and I have faith that you will be able to fix this too.'

You have been assigned the task 'Still Too Hot to Handle!'.

Thorbin has asked you to discover why the cooling sticks used to help cool the water in the chambers no longer appear to be effective.

The only suggestion Thorbin had was to ask the workers, attendants and engineers if they know anything about the cooling sticks.

  • 1. Find out why the cooling sticks no longer work. 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Only the engineers seem to have a response. Whether you get your answer or not seems to be random (an engineer who brushes you off could give you the update the next time you try him).

You say, 'Do you know anything about cooling sticks?'

a cooling chamber engineer says 'Well, I might have seen one of those alchemists here a while back. He might have been doing some sort of magic near one of the stick racks. He had a candle of some sort with him, that's why I noticed him. He was one of those that has lost his mind and hangs out below to avoid work.'

  • 2. Find one of the alchemists that has been seen near the cooling sticks 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Kill traitorous alchemists until one drops a Arcane Candle.

  • 3. Deliver 1 Arcane Candle to Thorbin 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Task Window Says: The candle you found is very unusual. Give it to Thorbin, he might know something about it.

    On handing Thorbin the candle:

Thorbin the Elder says 'Ah, very interesting. This candle must be part of a greater ritual involving fire, which would be a good counter magic to our cooling sticks. Maybe this candle can lead you to the magic it was used to create. First, though, you should neutralize it's heat powers by dipping it in the coldest water in the lowest chamber.'

  • 4. Douse the candle in the ice of the lowest chamber. 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Task Window Says: Thorbin suggested that the candle could be used to undo the magic that had been done, but first you'll need to freeze it as best you can.

Head down to the frozen lake at the far south of the zone. This area is patrolled by lots of undead. It is possible to make it here with the well timed use of IVU and regular invis.

When you reach the frozen lake you will receive a Frozen Arcane Candle on your cursor and the task will update.

  • 5. Use the Frozen Arcane Candle to remove the wards 0/5 (The Cooling Chamber)

  • 6. Find and snuff out the power behind the wards 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Task Window Says: Lighting the frozen candle might indicate where its magic resides. When close enough, it might even remove the magic.

    Ward locations:
    P -494.9289, 1398.7316, -340.1373, 0, 240, 240, 2, Ward
    P -147.6645, 1362.3503, -284.1783, 0, 240, 240, 2, Ward
    P -61.2220, 712.5363, -198.9685, 0, 240, 240, 2, Ward
    P 879.0519, 1293.8444, -289.3580, 0, 240, 240, 2, Ward
    P 1180.6199, 1593.2162, -369.3847, 0, 240, 240, 2, Ward

If you are in the right room when you click the candle you get the message:

The candle flares then sputters. You see magic glowing nearby.

You will also see a spell effect nearby. Move to the place where the spell effect happened and click again to get:

The candle flares up, then out and a magical symbol glows briefly before flaring out as well.

  • 7. Find and snuff out the power behind the wards 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

On each successful candle click there is a chance a candleflame elemental will spawn. It /cons yellow and is a little tougher than your typical trash mob (hits for ~7,000). Killing it will update this task stage.

NOTE: If you die to the elemental, you can respawn it at the same location via the same method.

  • 8. Deliver 1 Frozen Arcane Candle to Thorbin 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

    Upon turn-in:

Thorbin appears grateful for your help, but worries that more still may be wrong.

Make sure you don't just hail the cooling chamber engineers but actually /say cooling sticks
Eventually one of them will respond with something that updates the step. Mine actually said, "Oh look, a talking lump of refuse. How Novel!"

On the Arcane Candle, you need to loot it to update step 2. Since it is lore, if you already have one you need to destroy it so you can loot a new one to update step 2.

    1. Having access to invis and invis vs. undead will be greatly helpful.

    2. I found vastly different locations for the "wards." I didn't even know what it meant by "wards" so here it is: it's a room. They are shaped weird, and force you to turn. Looks like the room where the Lower Foreman is standing.

    3. All the locations are immediately to your left as you enter the room (if you are going downhill). They are all rooms above or below the small lakes (NOT the big one at the southern end of the zone, the two little ones in the middle of the zone), three on one side, two on the other. (At least, the ones I found were). So if you are going too far up or down in the zone, you probably won't find them -- stick to the lake areas.

    4. Here are my locations for the wards:

    -709, 60, 195
    -1294, -880, -286
    -1604, -1175, -366
    -1364, 151, -282
    -1397, 502, -343

Hope this is helpful. After an hour of running around unsuccessfully searching for the previously given locations, I finally just resorted to clicking the dang candle in every room. Once I hit on the first one, the rest were pretty easy to find - since I knew more or less what I was looking for anyway.

    5. The elemental popped in the third room I tried (-1604, -1175, -366) ... so it really could be a random, pop any time you click the candle, kind of spawn.

    Good luck!

Just so anyone who is doing this knows, if you die/wipe on the elemental you can relight the candle in the same spot he spawned at before and he will respawn in that spot. you dont have to try another ward point

The "a candleflame elemental" can pop at any of the ward spots and hits up to 7k expect it to be tougher then regular trash mobs.

    Harder than "a traitorous alchemist"

I'll have to try again later with a slower / group

Spawned at location #5 for me (the NW one). It does not see invis so it did not aggro initially, and I was able to move to the lake and pull it there. Had to shake off aggro from a traitorous dwarf that assisted the elemental.
