This solo task is the second of two such tasks that begin with Rodrick Cleanheart at location -170, -320, -25 in the Cooling Chamber.

You say, 'Hail, Rodrick Cleanheart'

Rodrick Cleanheart says 'Welcome back, Retired. The amulet you found has been very instructive. This reminds me of similar [devices] I have encountered before. You may yet help me lift my [heavy] burden.'

You say, 'What devices?'

Rodrick Cleanheart says 'In my experience an amulet like this one is used by a powerful Necromancer to control undead creatures. When whole, it can be used to dominate a very powerful creature, but it can also be split into pieces to control lesser creatures, as you saw. I think we can [use] this.'

You say, 'I will use it'

Rodrick Cleanheart says 'I have blessed this trinket, and I have removed the dark taint. It should now serve as a beacon for you. Activate the amulet if you lose your way, and it will guide you to one of the Master's chief thralls. Destroy what you find, and we may be one step closer to locating the source of this scourge.'

You have been assigned the task 'Hunt the Dead'.

Receive Rodrick's Cleansed Amulet.

Find the next Clue! 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Click the amulet and you'll see an emote indicating how far away you are from the location you need to be in. The emotes will change in color (similar to the /consider system) as you get closer to the location you need.

The location is random: One location is 2530, -1583, -489; another is -1900, -1500, -382, and also -2054, 159, -379.

Upon successful click, "an undead lieutenant" appears. Four adds called "a hand of death" spawn during the fight (at about 65%). The undead lieutenant hits for a max ~11,500 and has ~950,000 hitpoints.

Loot a Signet Amulet from the named or the adds.

Give the Signet Amulet to Rodrick Cleanheart 0/1 (The Cooling Chamber)

Rodrick Cleanheart says 'Oh, the treachery! I recognize the mark on this amulet! The foul source of this corruption is none other than Tasnise Underbelly! We must deal with this! Return later, friend, and we will discuss how we can best crush this evil scourge in our midst.'

Should be a shared task

Few things that will make this easier,

1) Having double invisibility (Perfected Invisibility + Perfected Invisibility vs Undead) works great for scouting the location.
2) With each click of the amulet, it'll produce a message.
-- Further away (Dark Blue) > Closer (Light Blue) > Even Closer (Yellow) > Within feet of spawning the commander (Red)

an undead lieutenant
- At 85, this fight is rough without an enchanter, but it can be done.
- Was able to do this fight with an 85 Warrior, Cleric, Monk, Wizard, Bard, and Shaman.
-- The Warrior and Monk are Tower geared.

You need to essentially burn the boss down while maintaining the adds.

If your tank is not raid geared, but have a group of 6 - split into 2 groups of 3 and supplement 3 mercs for each group.

I tried several times yesterday to find the location, but had zero luck. After logging for the evening and heading back into the zone today, I got lucky and was lead in a completely different direction. If this happens to you, you may want to zone out. Because it was the zone in room I found him in, there were no other adds to clear.

Just completed this, and the amulet does give you clues as to which direction you should go in, but make sure to stay invisible while you're roaming around. Today I found the undead lieutenant in the zone in room. The 5 adds however didn't pop out until he was 25% down. You WILL need the enchanter for CC. Just keep everything mezzed and kill everything one by one. I did it with a 93 mage and a 92 enchanter, along with a 92 caster merc and a 93 cleric merc. CC is the key to all of this crapola.

**make sure all parties get the quest** just because its individual does not mean the undead adds won't drop the piece you need-they all drop a piece. So just have everyone in the group get the quest themselves, and follow one amulet to the spawn site. After everything is dead, loot your piece and you can all head back for turn in.

I tried off and on for weeks to get this completed, but wiped out every time due to the adds. This sparked my decision to push from lvl 85 to 90, which, in reality, didn't help much. The HP count was still too high for my lil group to take out the undead LT.

I finally recruited an enchanter to help me with crowd control, and it was way easier.

Note #1: Clear the adds.

Note #2: I had the undead LT spawn in two places: -2602, -673, -470 and -3357, -516, -419. Of the two spots, the first was in a dent right around the corner from where the left tunnel empties into the lake / undead area. That was a peice of cake to do with a chanter. One place holder and then zip bang on the LT and adds. The other spot was in a high traffic area with lots and lots of roamers and it took forever (and several deaths) to get the job done.

This quest was a pain in the ***, and there is no way a group of 85s could do it. I could barely do it with 3 lvl 95s (druid, ranger, chanter) and 1 lvl 90 (SK) with a cleric and tank merc.

found an undead lieutenant in the NE corner of the huge open room in the south of the zone.
4 adds spawned when his health hit 72% and they hit fairly hard. Wiped my tank out real fast cause i was in the middle of a cast and wasn't expecting them to spawn until his health hit 65% like it says here...

Quick info update
# Mar 22 2010 at 3:41 PM Rating: Decent
The amulet given to you is clickable. It took me some time to realize that the Dark Blue Text that tells you closer/farther is misleading. As I got closer to the spot of An Undead Lieutenant, the actual text messages with each click will change from dark blue, to light blue, to yellow, to red and then the named spawns.

You can wait for it to despawn, takes about 2-3 min and is easily spawnable again by being in proximity and clicking the amulet again.

The position seems to be random, for us neither of the locations given worked for us, in fact the mob spawned at the zone-in near the water, very easy, excpet i ran the ENTIRE zone clicking until i figured out that the text color changes, only when the text color changes are you getting closer. I suggest a rogue or someone with double invis (reg invis, then ivu) run and do the clicking to save time and find the spot for certain. We wasted a lot of time by not doing this.

This mob hits hard easily managable by raid gear chars, but much harder for reg group-geared char like myself and alts, adds hit for easily 6500 as well but all were mezzable and slowable. Also, all adds dropped a final amulet to complete the quest for oters on the same solo task as well. I pre-looted on 2 other characters to see if I can complete task 2 by turing it in, but have not made it back to do so yet. (I will update here if/when I have that info.)

Spawning the Lieutenant does not satisfy "Find the next Clue!" though. You have to slay in the encounter before your pre-looted amulet is of use.

Well we did this today with Wiz/brd/War/J5 Tank/2xJ5 healers. War is mostly T7 group geared and 0 raid gear.

you can scope out where this named pops by clicking the item. you can even spawn it if you want. just be ready to fade or something.

This named will despawn after a short time not being killed.

What we did was find where it spawns at. You can figure out where it is with the clicky item. You can use invise and click it.

Then we cleared where it spawns.

Clicked the thing to pop the named.

War did all the disc he could for def. Wizard burned everything. Bard burned everything. As soon as adds pop he AE stuned and mezed them. While that was going we continued to burn the named. Just as the named was about to die the bard lost the adds and quickly we started going down. the wizard finished off the named and evaced. The bard ran and looted the corpse and turned in the part. Everyone died but the wizard.

If you have campfire set one up so you can quickly go and loot the part.

====
another way is to kill named down and wait for adds to pop and kill and add. if you live good. if you die just run back and loot. Named and adds will despawn shortly.

WIN.

Does this update when you loot the part? Like can you just loot the thing from an add and not have to kill him?
