This group task begins with Algera Chindlebolt at location -675, 265, 52 in Brell's Rest (by the zone-in from The Hole). In order to request this task you must first have completed Berrina's three tasks.

You say, 'Hail, Algera Chindlebolt'

Algera Chindlebolt says 'You there! By what unnatural means have you come to Brell's Rest? Oh, I suppose it matters not. The [threat] that is coming, after everything else that has happened lately around here, it cannot be the fault of adventurers like you.'

You say, 'What threat?'

Algera Chindlebolt says 'You may have heard talk of something called The Destroyer since you came to Brell's Rest. I assure you, it is real, though the dwarves and gnomes have been confounded in our attempts to learn more about it. The gnolls know of this menace, and though some of them are concerned, others seem to be supporting it with magical means. This must [stop] at once. While Brell does not appear to be present to exert his will in this place of eternal rest, its residents appear to be free to act as they will, possibly with deadly effects on what we thought were our everlasting spirits.'

You say, 'Yes, it must stop'

Algera Chindlebolt says '[Dealing] with gnolls has always been a slippery proposition, even when I was a mortal. Getting them to cease and desist from unwise or unsavory behavior is one of the more futile things one can hope to do. With so many things in Brell's Rest spinning out of their proper order, the last thing we need is a gigantic monster on the loose, much less one that is aided and boosted by a band of death-worshipping gnolls, beloved of Brell though they may be.'

You say, 'Dealing with the gnolls?'

Algera Chindlebolt says 'Loathe I am to say these words in this sacred place, but it may require violence to thwart the plans of these gnolls. Even then, this Destroyer monster may not be stopped, but his further growth prevented. This cannot happen unless we know which gnolls are actually up to no good. If we harm innocents here and cause Brell to have to retrieve them from oblivion, we will be cast out. If you will, please form a party of inquiry into this matter, and [investigate].'

You say, 'I'll investigate'

Algera Chindlebolt says 'The gnoll most open to talking about what the gnolls are up to is Shorf the Shaman. He is the one most willing to part with information regarding the Destroyer. Go to Shady Nook and let him be the beginning of your quest. Tell me when you are [ready] to be attuned to his presence, and I shall aid you in locating him.'

You have been assigned the task 'Don't Fear the Destroyer'.

Algera Chindlebolt is now aware of the existence of the Destroyer, whoever that is, and now believe that the gnolls are taking advantage of the arrival of this 'Destroyer' for the advancement of their own agenda. Seek them out and decide whether or not they are a threat to the general order of things, and learn anything you can about this 'Destroyer'.

You say, 'Ready!'

Algera Chindlebolt says 'May Brell watch over you and keep you safe.'

Zakarf the Assassin says 'So you think to ply me for talk about the Destroyer? Forget it! You die now! I kill you, and when you dead, you not remember anything, like me telling you where Groth'roth has secret meetings in Watery Nook! After I kill you, maybe I kill that Garrhuff Gabblepaws too!'

Speak with Grothroth, leader of the Destroyer-worshipper group 0/1 (Brell's Rest)

You say, 'Hail, Grothroth'

Grothroth says 'Grothroth smash you up but good! You no ask about Destroyer. Destroyer soon will get even with you and your ilk! You push him around, slay him too often! You dare not know Destroyer? You sound like Garrhuff. He not know meaning of Destroyer either! I hammer you both in your stupid faces with angry fists!!'

Your task 'Don't Fear the Destroyer' has been updated.

This opens up the next steps:

Take the Badges of the Destroyer from the dead Priests of Undeath 0/3 (Brell's Rest)

Grothroth will not allow himself to be taken prisoner! 0/1 (Brell's Rest)

Killing all the gnolls around this area updates these steps. They hit for a max ~5,800 and can be split from one another (unknown if mez works). Be sure to loot the badges from the undead priests.

Grothroth's corpse falls in defeat.
Your faction standing with Underfoot Autarchs got worse.
Your faction standing with Underfoot Citizens got better.

Your task 'Don't Fear the Destroyer' has been updated.

Grothroth mentioned Garrhuff Gabblepaws. Bring him the Badges of the Destroyer 0/1 (Brell's Rest)

Garrhuff Gabblepaws is located a little ways west of the area where you zoned in. Hand him the three badges.

Speak with Garrhuff Gabblepaws about the Badges of the Destroyer 0/1 (Brell's Rest)

You say, 'Hail, Garrhuff Gabblepaws'

Garrhuff Gabblepaws says 'Destroyer is a gnoll. A crazy, crazy gnoll. I not know why he so crazy, but he crazy-mad and big, too. He wreck Brell's Rest, given chance. You maybe not strong enough to scratch him. He destroy every dimbulb sword-swinger that went to find him. He destroy you, too. That why he called Destroyer. He destroy things. Uh oh, more bad gnolls come to rough me up, make me worship Destroyer!'

Your task 'Don't Fear the Destroyer' has been updated.

This triggers an ambush and opens up the next four steps:

Kill the gnoll reaver ambushers! 0/4 (Brell's Rest)

Kill the gnoll gutpiercer ambushers! 0/4 (Brell's Rest)

Kill Reufhof the Conspirator! 0/1 (Brell's Rest)

Kill Vark the Conspirator! 0/1 (Brell's Rest)

You'll have 10 gnolls in total, each hitting for a max ~6,000 (the two named hit for ~7,500). Once their initial aggro is dropped, they'll go back to their spawnpoints and can be split from one another.

Speak with Urkbark. Try and learn what he knows of The Destroyer 0/1 (Brell's Rest)

You say, 'Hail, Urkbark Pinchpaw'

Urkbark Pinchpaw says 'Grr! You scum not belong here! Only true gnolls who know of Destroyer belong here! You see! You learn of Destroyer soon enough; he happy to pick his fangs with your bones!'

Urkbark Pinchpaw pounces!

Urkbark hits for a max ~9,400.

Kill Urkbark before he can warn The Destroyer 0/1 (Brell's Rest)

Hail Algera Chindlebolt, so that she can return you to the 'normal' plane of Brell's Rest 0/1 (Brell's Rest)

NOTE: The task locks at the time you hail Algera.)

You say, 'Hail, Algera Chindlebolt'

Algera Chindlebolt says 'There is not much I can do to repay you in a way that you would be accustomed to, except perhaps to give you this. I really wish I could do more; the information you have gained in battle will at least help us prepare for whatever the Destroyer really is. I suppose it could be an oversized gnoll, but that would be too unimaginative; every race projects their collective ego in such a fantastical way at least once in their history.'
