This is a grand task which begins with Phara Dar in the Field of Scale.

    You say, 'Hail, Phara Dar'

Phara Dar says 'I do not have time to indulge in idle chat, small one. My father and I must find a way to crush these Iksar. We all grow [weary] of such prolonged battle.'

    You say, 'Weary?'

Phara Dar says 'It is slow going, destroying such a large number of foes. We gnaw on the tail, but the body and head remain inside the [walls]. I would prefer a quick, decisive final battle. I would prefer to end this foolishness now. But the Ring of Scale is nothing if not wise, and so we fight this war as we must. Only Talendor appears to be enjoying the delay. I suspect he appreciates the anticipation of victory nearly as much as the victory itself. Though the appearance of the [Sokokar] give me pause for concern.'

    You say, 'Its walls...'

Phara Dar says 'The buildings to the east and the tower to the north. Emperor Ganak himself has taken up residence in the village. Kaesora I believe they call it. With the increased guard and now the presence of Ganak himself, it's plain to see something big is happening in there. If only we could [get inside] and find out what! The tower to the north is reported to house one of the Iksar's greatest generals, though I have not yet met him on the battlefield myself.'

You say, 'How could we get inside?'

Phara Dar says 'Quite a challenge to be sure. The lizards won't allow outsiders into their most holy chambers, but if I were to craft a special [illusion] I believe you could slip by the guards unnoticed.'

    You say, 'An illusion?'

Phara Dar says 'That of an Iksar Skeleton! Such an illusion would be quite difficult however. No simple spell will convince Ganak's elite guards. No no, this must be a [special] incantation for certain!'

    You say, 'A special incantation?'

Phara Dar says 'In order to create a convincing illusion, I require some rather unique items in order to help visualize the final form. I warn you, this will NOT be easy. Do not waste my time if you cannot finish the job. I have little time or patience to deal with distractions as Ganak's forces bear down upon us! Can you [see this through]?'

You say, 'We will see this through'

Phara Dar says 'We shall see ______. We shall see. In order to make a convincing illusion, I will need a [ribcage], a [foot], a [hand], and finally a [skull]. Once I have all 4 pieces of this skeletal puzzle, not even Ganak himself will be able to see through your disguise.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Grand Illusion'.

Note: Also go through trigger text for the four sub-tasks. You cannot pre-loot anything throughout these tasks, so be sure to request them before looting anything.

Collect an Iksar Ribcage 0/1 (ALL)

This step updates upon completing "Purify the Body".

Collect an Iksar Skeletal Hand 0/1 (ALL)

This step updates upon completing "Idle Hands".

Collect an Iksar Skeletal Foot 0/1 (ALL)

This step updates upon completing "Evil Afoot".

Collect a Petrified Iksar Skull 0/1 (ALL)

This step updates upon completing "The Skull of the Ancient".

Speak with Phara Dar 0/1 (Field of Scale)

As the last piece of the puzzle is delivered to Phara Dar, a broad smile forms on her toothy maw. "When I sent you out searching for these items, I must admit I did not believe you'd actually find them. You have proven yourself worthy of great respect amongst my brethren, and I hope this illusion will serve you well. Return to me whenever you have need of my assistance."

    Final Reward:

Bone Mask of the Ancient Iksar
    MAGIC ITEM NO TRADE
    Slot: FACE
    Charges: Unlimited
Effect: Illusion Ancient Iksar (Any Slot/Can Equip, Casting Time: 2.0)
    WT: 0.3 Size: MEDIUM
    Class: ALL
    Race: ALL

The illusion effect makes you non-KOS to all iksars in the "Field of Scale" theme (Field of Scale, Kaesora, and Kurn's Stronghold).

    Also:
    A number of Chronobines (varies)
    Iksar Left Ribcage Bones
    Experience
Faction with Tynoc, Herald of Scale

Note: This task is no longer repeatable.

I keep trying to send a correction but it doesnt seem to work. the button that is. so skeletons DO NOT DROP the ribcage. spent about 2 hrs today doing nothing but killing skels. no ribs. i gave up deciding to come back to if when rest of the mask line was done. surprisingly i immediately got a drop off iksars. then 2 more for my alts. sure enough when i looked the ribcage is not marked on alla as dropping from skels

    Total quest

Total quest you are looking at 1-2 hours. None of it is especially hard,.. Recommend FD puller for a few parts... but I did it with a mage and either rooted and coth, or just pulled, split, coth.. then tagged.

Print out the order -- and check it off, to follow. Have the words for the hails ready too on the shade, so you aren't fumbling when trying to do it without agro.

The hand is best if you get someone to clear the WHOLE room. Then you run in and /open, the /loot.

A mage is awesome here, because you can just kite any accidental agro and get coth.

I just did it with a bumbling group, mostly a mage, and myself pally -- took about 2 hours, but doing it again, an hour at most.

Print/read.. and just have at it. Try to align the 9pm game time bones turn in with other things, so you aren't waiting 72mins for that turn in.

    Good luck!

    Nerfed!
    # Jan 27 2009 at 11:32 AM Rating: Decent
As of the last patch it seems that the hand and foot parts are no longer so easy. Firstly i notice that you now have to have the quest in order to open them, and someone without the quest cannot.

When you try to open the bones you get the message *Remains of Master Marthor cannot be opened while guards are nearby*

In the case of the foot, the two monk guards (which con indiff) need to be killed down until they both FD, you should not use pets in the group as these retain aggro. Once they are FD the bones can be opened and looted by the person with the quest.

For the hand, i tried training the room away but didnt quite get all the mobs and still could not open the bones, so i killed all but one mob in there which was stood at the end of the room and was able to loot.

    Hope this helps
    Nerfed!
    # Feb 14 2009 at 9:20 PM Rating: Decent
i know it was nerfed, but the tasks might still be aquirable by someone who has already done them...

if you have this task active from before it was nerfed, and still have unfinished sub-tasks, you can still recieve them from phara.

IE, i did the grand illusion once, and started it again to get the subtasks again. i have the skull/foot/hand subtasks done for the new one, but never bothered with the ribcage one. since its still unfinished, i can still get the ribcage one since i didnt finish it the 2nd time i got the grand illusion task.

so practical, no. but possible! and limited heh

If you have someone in your group that does not have the quest for the FOOT part, they can open the box and then one of the quest persons can loot it. For the HAND box we had a druid with the mask illusion on open the box and a bard pull the mobs in the room away and fade off while one of the questers go the piece. Both went smoothly.
    The Grand Illusion
    # Dec 02 2008 at 2:37 AM Rating: Decent
Just say "See this through" to Phara'dar and grab the 5 tasks.

    1) The Grand Illusion.
    a) Evil Afoot.
    b) Idle Hands.
    c) The Skull of the Ancient.
    d) Purify the Body.

    a) Is easy if you have a friend that have already the illu mask and dont have the task. He'll just open the remains for you and you just loot.
When you have already mask : open remains safely, go grab task, loot foot.

    b) Here too your friend can safely open the remains, but its a bit harder to you as if nobody trains out the room, you will certainly die while looting, so do it fast.
When you have already mask : open remains, go grab task, speak with Shade safely, loot hand safely.

    c) Go FoB (the classic one) in Kaesora ruins and kill the Commander skel, solotable with merc + slow, he dont summons too. He is just very camped.

    d) U need to find and loot ribcage (from Iksars and skels ), flame (from Iksars Necromancers near Kurn's) and tar (from skels).

    Level restriction only

Since there is a question up top - There is only a level restriction for requesting this task. No faction pre-requisite. Sorry that I do not know the level restriction. I think people 81 and over can get, but I don't know how low level you can be. I heard Phara'Dar reject a player i his 60's. At least he got the same phrase as my level 15 bot... :-P
