This task begins with Lanys T`Vyl in Bloody Kithicor. She is located in a tent in the far eastern part of the zone, the Obliteration Army headquarters (near the Commonlands zone). To speak with her, you must equip an Army of Obliteration Medallion. There are no pre-requisites for requesting this task.

    You say, 'Hail, Lanys T`Vyl'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'Battle approaches, and many plans are in motion. We are attempting to bring the enemy army to their knees before battle even begins! How will we do this, you ask? As our infiltrators slay and harass the enemy warcamps, you will slip behind enemy lines and wreck as many of the enemy supplies and as many houses as you can. Then our [invasion] will be unstoppable.'

    You say, 'What invasion?'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'If you succeed beyond my wildest imaginings, then the lackeys of Firiona Vie may find it difficult to stand their ground when the real battle starts. Terror, despair, hunger, uselessness, these are the things I want the enemy soldier to feel in the hours before battle starts. We will push them off-balance and keep them that way. They must lose heart, break, and run. We will bring [destruction] to the whole corrupt order they represent, and the age of Teir'Dal domination shall begin.'

    You say, 'Destruction?'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'Yes. Our Army of Obliteration shall unleash a rain of ruin upon the homelands of our foes, starting with your mission to destroy the enemy supplies. Well? Are you ready to embark on this [undertaking]?'

You say, 'I'm ready for this undertaking'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'Good. The first thing you'll do is speak to Laarthik. He has a list of things in Kithicor Forest that must be denied to the enemy's use. May the power of Innoruuk guide you and compel you.'

    You receive a "Glowing Firebrand".

You have been assigned the task 'Rain of Ruin'.

The time for decisive action against the Army of Light and their allies among the inhabitants of Kithicor has come.

Speak with Laarthik V`Shin 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

    You say, 'Hail, Laarthik V`Shin'

Laarthik V`Shin says 'Yes, Lanys told me to expect you. There is much to do in the forest; it is now crawling with enemy patrols, every minute we wait only allows our enemy to gather more of their strength. We'll not commit our main strength to battle until we ourselves are ready, but we may still send volunteers such as yourself into the enemy's territory to sabotage their defensive works and stores of weapons. Take this fell crossbow to Pyrrdan, one of our master veterans. He will direct you now. You may find him on a hilltop vantage point, just east of the center of the forest.'

You receive "Pyrrdan's Crossbow of Bone".

Find Pyrrdan in the center of Kithicor Forest 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Search for Pyrrdan, one of Laarthik's lieutenants, atop a hill near the center of Kithicor Forest.

Pyrrdan stands atop a hill next to a tree. The location is due west of the Obliteration Army HQ and a little bit south.

Deliver the Crossbone Bow to Pyrrdan 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Pyrrdan says 'Of course, my Crossbow of Bone, I wouldn't normally leave it with Laarthik but didn't think I'd be so busy. I believe I'm supposed to give you further instructions, eh? Give me a moment.'

Speak to Pyrrdan 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

    You say, 'Hail, Pyrrdan'

Pyrrdan says 'Ah, it is good to have my crossbow back. As for you, you may help me with my task for the Army of Obliteration, which is to deny as much lodging and materiel to the enemy now that they have arrived in the area. There is much work to be done. First, I'll require you to go to Porrindal's house near here. I'll write down the rest of your instructions for you to read as you go.'

Find Tyron Porrindal's House 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

His house is pretty much due south of the Void portal (slightly west), on the southern boundary of the zone (location -710, -80).

Kill Tyron Porrindal 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Note that Army of Light NPCs will assist Tyron Porrindal, so be prepared. Tyron himself is about on par with those NPCs in terms of difficulty.

    You have slain Tyron Porrindal!

Set fire to Tyron Porrindal's house 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Porrindal's house must be set ablaze. Burn crates near Porrindal's house to get the fire started.

A flammable box is outside in the back of the house. Use the Glowing Firebrand effect on it.

Go to the Dragonheart Regiment camp northwest of Porrindal's house 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Head straight northwest until you come across the fork in the path which plays host to an Army of Light camp. Run around there until this step updates.

Collect Kithicor axes from the weapon racks 0/4 (Bloody Kithicor)

Collect five Dwarven axes from the weapon racks. This will keep several key soldiers out of the fight as they look for their weapons!

Weapon racks are found in the Dragonheart Regiment camp and the nearby camp to its northwest. Each weapon rack contains two axes.

Deliver Kithicor axes to Pyrrdan 0/5 (Bloody Kithicor)

Deliver the dwarven axes to Pyrrdan as trophies.

Pyrrdan says 'Yes, very good, these axes will do nicely, the Dwarves never let their best gear sit in a weapons rack this close to a battle brewing, but we're happy to have this gear. It's always satisfying to kill the enemy with their own weapons whenever possible.'

Speak to Pyrrdan 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Note: This 'hail' updates anyone in your group who's also on this step, and will spawn a wave of ambush NPCs.

    You say, 'Hail, Pyrrdan'

Pyrrdan says 'Here are your new orders. Be vigilant, for I think I hear something close by...'

Kill the ambushers 0/4 (Bloody Kithicor)

Four forest rangers jump Pyrrdan. If they kill him, your task will fail (NOTE: Pyrrdan can be healed by player spells). They hit for a max ~1,650 each and have a good amount of hitpoints.

You have slain a forest ranger!
You have slain a forest ranger!
You have slain a forest ranger!
You have slain a forest ranger!

Destroy the Army of Light supply crates 0/5 (Bloody Kithicor)

Supply crates litter the Army of Light camps. Destroy 5 of them.

Search for Darvin Oggleby's House 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Darvin Oggleby's house is a little ways southwest of Tyron Porrindal's house.

Kill anyone defending Darvin Oggleby's House 0/4 (Bloody Kithicor)

Kill the Kithicor Forest Militia in the area of the Oggleby house.

Several Army of Light NPCs can be found in Oggleby's house. Killing them updates this step. Darvin himself does not count, though he will certainly join in.

Set fire to Darvin Oggleby's House 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

A flammable box can be found outside the residence. Use the glowing firebrand on it.

Thin the ranks of the Army of Light 0/6 (Bloody Kithicor)

Kill any six "Army of Light" NPCs.

Explore Avenwood hamlet in Kithicor woods 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

This update occurs in the set of houses just west of the Oggleby house.

Set fire to the houses in the Avenwood hamlet 0/4 (Bloody Kithicor)

Again, use the flammable objects around the houses to get this update.

Report your progress to Lanys T`Vyl 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Hail Lanys T`Vyl and tell her the hour of battle has arrived.

    Yes, you're done now.

    You say, 'Hail, Lanys T`Vyl'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'A thoroughly successful effort, I am pleased with your performance. You are truly an admirable addition to our army. Now you must be ready, for the battle against Firiona Vie's army will begin in earnest. With all of our power directed against the foe, we are sure to prevail! All glory to Innoruuk!'

Who designs such stupid quests? You can fail the entire questline (TEN STEPS IN) if the mob dies to an ambush.

Having just done this quest today while three boxing I can say that you do not automatically fail this task if Pyrrdan dies during the ambush. Unlike in Disruptive Influences, where the death of Malaurin V`Kon causes the task to fail and be deleted from you Quest Journal, you can (at least potentially) recover. For anyone doing this keep in mind that a set of 4 rangers spawns for each and every character who hails Pyrrdan for that task step. Also, he dies super fast to eight rangers. I had the third character, the one who had not completed that step, do the hail when he respawned and it worked just fine for all three characters.

Peak stupidity by the creators who came up with this quest. Good luck doing it in a group, especially if other people are competing for the mobs/chests. Everything has a respawn timer between 5 minutes and 15 minutes, and you only get credit for one person at a time. A quest that should be doable in 10-15 minutes takes an hour and a half or more.

Faction standing increases received today, finalizing this task within the same 30 seconds, with two characters, doing the task simultaneously (boxing them):

Human Paladin (Erollisi Marr deity) level 85 got +124 faction towards Silla Herald
Barbarian Berserker (Rallos Zek deity) level 84 got +117 faction towards Silla Herald

Apparently class, level, deity or something else is giving a slight variation in faction gain between player characters when completing this task (and others - at least - in this zone).

As far as I'm aware, faction increases happen only by level.

Another update. 2 of my 3 characters did not get an update when my main hailed Pyrrdan so had to do hail again twice. On second try, only one ranger was lvl 78, the others were lvl 79 and did not mezz but stopped beating on Pyrrdan and attacked the enchanter when I tried to mezz them. Tank merc quickly got agro on the 3 unmezzed so no big problem.

Well, 6 years later and used a 76 enchanter with aoe mezz to target Pyrrdan and worked great again. Rangers were all lvl 78 and that was the max aoe mezz for my enchanter. Also like to note that I buffed Pyrrdan before the fight and would guess that helped. He lost about 10 percent of his health before I got the rangers mezz. He is lvl 85 btw.

In the Army of Light camp, you only have to destroy 5 supply crates, not 12 as it says here.
    Easiest way to do this

If you've done the Army of Light stuff first, just wear the neck piece for Light (once you leave the Dark camps).

Makes getting axes, etc. much easier.

Another approach to Mezz: Did this with an 81 enchanter. Used Pyrrdan as focal point knowing mezz would not work on him but works on rangers just dandy ... used an AOE mezz. Kept rangers mezzed as I killed them one by one. No problems.

Just did this task for my three younger characters and my 78 enchanter could not mezz Pyrrdan nor the rangers. After trying two different ways with the first two turn ins, I logged in a friend's chanter that is in the low 90s and she could mezz Pyrrdan. My guess is you need at least an 82 enchanter with befuddle to use the mezz approach to kill the rangers without losing Pyrrdan. But it still works as of October 2013 (mezz Pyrrdan so the rangers can't/won't attack him).

Also, I haven't read through all the threads on this task...but...it was my experience that you can open all the weapon racks and supply crates and light all the flammable boxes on fire without getting a iota of aggro. The stuff just doesn't attack, so all those parts of this task are silly easy.

this is still happening as of 11/26/13. i submitted a petition. doubtful of a response. as a lvl 80 paladin i could not pull agro off him. multiple stuns on the rangers. and multiple attempts. i even poped a j2 tank to see if he could help pull agro. he did not. he dies before i can even pull agro OF ONE ranger off him. the rangers seem to completely ignore anything. had a lvl 81 guildy wizard come see if you could peel them of with an aoe nuke. nothing.

Pyrrdan is bugged again and when he spawns the 4 ambushers automatically spawn with him. Only way I did it was to sit on his spawn and aggro all of them and kill them first. Then had to do the turn-in on each toon and kill them all over again with each turn-in. Pain in the butt, needs to be fixed...

Still doing the same thing tonight, just did the quest for my trio. Had to kill the 4 rangers a total of 7 times (2 times the first time you talk to Pyrddan, and then 5 times more when turning in the axes, LOL). Fortunately for me, I'm over leveled since I never got here before now, with all the breaks I've taken. 87 Druid, 85 Mage, 84 Chanter, with one of each merc (87 A5 tank, 85 J2 healer, 84 A5 caster). So taking them all out (repeatedly) wasn't hard. If you're solo, I'd recommend bringing some friends (or at least a chanter :)

The Pyrrdan Death Cycle seems to occur on a fail. I found Pyrrdan up, all was normal, and did the turn-in. However, I wasn't prepared for the ambush, and Pyrrdan was killed. All 4 rangers despawned.

Then, when Pyrrdan respawned, all 4 rangers showed up instantly. I was able to eventually kill them all, after several frustrating failures. Had to aggro all with my bard, and hope the lvl 80 tank merc could hang on. Eventually, we did.

Completed mission, with several failures, boxing 80 mage/80 bard.

This is important to list correctly, because I nearly gave up on this task after running out of charges (from trying to light other things on fire), because the write-up claimed you get it after hailing Laarthik, along with "Pyrrdan's Crossbow of Bone". You actually receive the "Glowing Firebrand" when you tell Lanys "I am ready for this undertaking". After deleting my used up item and repeating the trigger phrase to Lanys, she gave me a new one (with a full set of 12 charges).

Was 6-boxing this and it was easy until Pyrrdan. Read the posts and it appears they did fix the mez Pyrrdan method as suggested earlier.

First two tries failed and, since this is a long drawn out bottleneck type quest, the failure scared me. The failures all got credit when a grouper did it later.

We used an 87 enchanter with an AoE mez. The enchanter cast Ensorcelling Wave for an 54 sec AoE mez. Lead mage picked a mob and nuked it. With my mages crit'ing 50K these days it was surprising that it took an average of 6 casts to drop each one. Didn't parse the health but they were more HPs than expected but we easily dropped all 4 in the 54 seconds of the AoE mez.

When I bragged on my chanter buddy, he said, "all I did was press one key..." (told him he got the right one for once).

    Afterthoughts:

Bard would work well too but the idea of keeping all 4 occupied didn't work (again, think it would if hitting one would light up 4 on the extended target so all 4 mages could have picked a different mob).

My guess is that any AoE agro (Warrior perhaps and don't pallies have an AoE stun these days??) would probably work too. My mage took agro and had no problem staying alive. He's puny by HoT standards (we just came back after 3 years away) but does have 4500 AC and 40K HPs. Didn't even bother to heal him and he was only 74% health at his worst so they don't hit hard.

Maybe this was obvious to everyone but me and this doesn't cover a way to do it w/o some special grouper types but at least it's something... there doesn't seem to be a lot of posting these days.

Did this with my multi-box and here are some tips to speed things up since respawn is a pain.

When opening weapon racks for the axes part:

    2 Thanuel Mergon's camp.
    1 Captain Agresin's camp.
    1 Sargeant Thandrin

When opening supply chest for the destroy supply crates part:
    3 Thanuel Mergon's camp.
    4 Captain Agresin's camp.
    5 Around Avenwood House area.

There might be more but these are fairly close to each other.

Don't melee down the boxes: do /open specially for the casters in your box team.

Respawn for boxes and racks is about 10 minutes.
