This task begins with Lanys T`Vyl in Bloody Kithicor. She is located in a tent in the far eastern part of the zone, the Obliteration Army headquarters (near the Commonlands zone). To speak with her, you must equip an Army of Obliteration Medallion. There are no pre-requisites for requesting this task.

    You say, 'Hail, Lanys T`Vyl'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'Battle approaches, and many plans are in motion. We are attempting to bring the enemy army to their knees before battle even begins! How will we do this, you ask? As our infiltrators slay and harass the enemy warcamps, you will slip behind enemy lines and wreck as many of the enemy supplies and as many houses as you can. Then our [invasion] will be unstoppable.'

    You say, 'What invasion?'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'If you succeed beyond my wildest imaginings, then the lackeys of Firiona Vie may find it difficult to stand their ground when the real battle starts. Terror, despair, hunger, uselessness, these are the things I want the enemy soldier to feel in the hours before battle starts. We will push them off-balance and keep them that way. They must lose heart, break, and run. We will bring [destruction] to the whole corrupt order they represent, and the age of Teir'Dal domination shall begin.'

    You say, 'Destruction?'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'Yes. Our Army of Obliteration shall unleash a rain of ruin upon the homelands of our foes, starting with your mission to destroy the enemy supplies. Well? Are you ready to embark on this [undertaking]?'

You say, 'I'm ready for this undertaking'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'Good. The first thing you'll do is speak to Laarthik. He has a list of things in Kithicor Forest that must be denied to the enemy's use. May the power of Innoruuk guide you and compel you.'

    You receive a "Glowing Firebrand".

You have been assigned the task 'Rain of Ruin'.

The time for decisive action against the Army of Light and their allies among the inhabitants of Kithicor has come.

Speak with Laarthik V`Shin 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

    You say, 'Hail, Laarthik V`Shin'

Laarthik V`Shin says 'Yes, Lanys told me to expect you. There is much to do in the forest; it is now crawling with enemy patrols, every minute we wait only allows our enemy to gather more of their strength. We'll not commit our main strength to battle until we ourselves are ready, but we may still send volunteers such as yourself into the enemy's territory to sabotage their defensive works and stores of weapons. Take this fell crossbow to Pyrrdan, one of our master veterans. He will direct you now. You may find him on a hilltop vantage point, just east of the center of the forest.'

You receive "Pyrrdan's Crossbow of Bone".

Find Pyrrdan in the center of Kithicor Forest 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Search for Pyrrdan, one of Laarthik's lieutenants, atop a hill near the center of Kithicor Forest.

Pyrrdan stands atop a hill next to a tree. The location is due west of the Obliteration Army HQ and a little bit south.

Deliver the Crossbone Bow to Pyrrdan 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Pyrrdan says 'Of course, my Crossbow of Bone, I wouldn't normally leave it with Laarthik but didn't think I'd be so busy. I believe I'm supposed to give you further instructions, eh? Give me a moment.'

Speak to Pyrrdan 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

    You say, 'Hail, Pyrrdan'

Pyrrdan says 'Ah, it is good to have my crossbow back. As for you, you may help me with my task for the Army of Obliteration, which is to deny as much lodging and materiel to the enemy now that they have arrived in the area. There is much work to be done. First, I'll require you to go to Porrindal's house near here. I'll write down the rest of your instructions for you to read as you go.'

Find Tyron Porrindal's House 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

His house is pretty much due south of the Void portal (slightly west), on the southern boundary of the zone (location -710, -80).

Kill Tyron Porrindal 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Note that Army of Light NPCs will assist Tyron Porrindal, so be prepared. Tyron himself is about on par with those NPCs in terms of difficulty.

    You have slain Tyron Porrindal!

Set fire to Tyron Porrindal's house 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Porrindal's house must be set ablaze. Burn crates near Porrindal's house to get the fire started.

A flammable box is outside in the back of the house. Use the Glowing Firebrand effect on it.

Go to the Dragonheart Regiment camp northwest of Porrindal's house 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Head straight northwest until you come across the fork in the path which plays host to an Army of Light camp. Run around there until this step updates.

Collect Kithicor axes from the weapon racks 0/4 (Bloody Kithicor)

Collect five Dwarven axes from the weapon racks. This will keep several key soldiers out of the fight as they look for their weapons!

Weapon racks are found in the Dragonheart Regiment camp and the nearby camp to its northwest. Each weapon rack contains two axes.

Deliver Kithicor axes to Pyrrdan 0/5 (Bloody Kithicor)

Deliver the dwarven axes to Pyrrdan as trophies.

Pyrrdan says 'Yes, very good, these axes will do nicely, the Dwarves never let their best gear sit in a weapons rack this close to a battle brewing, but we're happy to have this gear. It's always satisfying to kill the enemy with their own weapons whenever possible.'

Speak to Pyrrdan 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Note: This 'hail' updates anyone in your group who's also on this step, and will spawn a wave of ambush NPCs.

    You say, 'Hail, Pyrrdan'

Pyrrdan says 'Here are your new orders. Be vigilant, for I think I hear something close by...'

Kill the ambushers 0/4 (Bloody Kithicor)

Four forest rangers jump Pyrrdan. If they kill him, your task will fail (NOTE: Pyrrdan can be healed by player spells). They hit for a max ~1,650 each and have a good amount of hitpoints.

You have slain a forest ranger!
You have slain a forest ranger!
You have slain a forest ranger!
You have slain a forest ranger!

Destroy the Army of Light supply crates 0/5 (Bloody Kithicor)

Supply crates litter the Army of Light camps. Destroy 5 of them.

Search for Darvin Oggleby's House 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Darvin Oggleby's house is a little ways southwest of Tyron Porrindal's house.

Kill anyone defending Darvin Oggleby's House 0/4 (Bloody Kithicor)

Kill the Kithicor Forest Militia in the area of the Oggleby house.

Several Army of Light NPCs can be found in Oggleby's house. Killing them updates this step. Darvin himself does not count, though he will certainly join in.

Set fire to Darvin Oggleby's House 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

A flammable box can be found outside the residence. Use the glowing firebrand on it.

Thin the ranks of the Army of Light 0/6 (Bloody Kithicor)

Kill any six "Army of Light" NPCs.

Explore Avenwood hamlet in Kithicor woods 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

This update occurs in the set of houses just west of the Oggleby house.

Set fire to the houses in the Avenwood hamlet 0/4 (Bloody Kithicor)

Again, use the flammable objects around the houses to get this update.

Report your progress to Lanys T`Vyl 0/1 (Bloody Kithicor)

Hail Lanys T`Vyl and tell her the hour of battle has arrived.

    Yes, you're done now.

    You say, 'Hail, Lanys T`Vyl'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'A thoroughly successful effort, I am pleased with your performance. You are truly an admirable addition to our army. Now you must be ready, for the battle against Firiona Vie's army will begin in earnest. With all of our power directed against the foe, we are sure to prevail! All glory to Innoruuk!'

Since casters don't do a lot of damage with weapons (you can't nuke the crates) it can take a long time to destroy a crate. You can beat the crate down to a few percent with another bot or fellow player then finish it with the caster. The character with the finishing blow is the one who gets credit even if the crate lost 99% from another character's damage.

Looks like a possible change to the axe turn in NPC

Seems to debuff himself after a few seconds, including mez.

I did it a few weeks ago using the mez Pyrrdan method without any problems.

However just tried it tonight and failed, looks like mez either doesnt land or gets debuffed after a few seconds, not sure as I wasn't playing the mezzer this time around.

Just did the Pyrrdan ambushers (Forest Rangers) part and had no problem. Bard mezzed and ranger pulled singles from the crowd till 4 were dead and group of 4 got the update. Then let mez wear off and they killed Pyrrdan and depopped. I would guess the mezzer let it drop for an instant.

Or, more likely, is that since you were dealing with 4 rangers, one or more of them landed a DoT.

There's a "backdoor" on this part: Help someone else with the kills and they will count for you too. You can continue the task then as normal.

Using npcs did not work. I pet pulled the entire obliteration army to the south on top of Pyrrdan flopped and pet-feigned then hailed Pyrrdan by another. hehe those pasty faced rangers did not last 5 seconds. I tagged one with HT (20k) but did not get any credit for the kill. aoe fear did not work, so I followed skip ambushers post which worked nicely.

Completed 2/14/10 as 85 shm with 85 dru and 78 mnk + mercs.

Doing in a group can be a pain because of the bottlenecks but you can complete several of the steps out of order.

I was able to preloot the axes and supply crates and preburn the houses before the steps showed up on the quest log. If you have several people in your group I recommend starting on these parts as soon as you get the quest so you don't have to wait for 24 or 36 or whatever crates to spawn when you are all on that step.

You could also do these parts solo and then just get a group together to do the kills if you need help.

Also, Mitol Errthinol trick is still working. The mnk died when he did Pyrrdan turn in and only got 1 ranger update. We then moved to Mitol and attacked him to spawn rangers. Out of 2 adds we got 1 ranger each time. We killed ranger only then druid hit evac, repeat 3 times and done.

Haunaben's method still works as of 1/25/10:

    Quote:
    1. Mezz Pyrrdan - keep him mezzed for the duration
    2. Have all members in group turn in axes if they are on this step
    3. Have all members in group hail Pyrrdan
    4. This will spawn 4 x number of hails of forest rangers. They will NOT be KOS and will bounce around Pyrrdan doing nothing.
    5. Tag one ranger, kill it. The others will NOT assist while Pyrrdan is mezzed. Repeat 3 more times.
    6. On the fourth kill you will get task update, you do not need to kill all of them. Let mez drop and Pyrrdan will die, you get to run away :)

I did this for my 5 box group using Bard to keep Pyrrdan mezzed - stop mez song, bellow one ranger over to group, resume mez song. Worked like a charm.

The only thing I did different was switch #1 and #2. The important part is to have him mezzed before hailing him. Once the rangers spawn, they will rush him, but don't worry, they won't attack. The rangers will then reset and rush him again, but they won't attack. This cycle keeps repeating until you kill them all.

I did this with my 5-box last night. I just let the bard sit there playing the mez song, while the other four took out the rangers. Once they were dead, I stopped the mez song, waited for it to wear off, and Faded as a safe measure.

As of 1/5/10 the Mitol Errthinol trick still works, you just have to attack him until the forest ranger spawns. Sometimes you get guardians or skirmishers.

Did this with my 82 Bard 3.5k ac 21k hp and a t1 merc. Didn't take long and everything is just tank and kill. Just did the mezz trick with Pyrrden and single pulled the rangers while the others ran wild. Ran melody and would switch back to Pyrrden to mezz again every once in awhile. Everything else is easily singled as a bard and wasn't tough taking them out solo with the merc.

Perfect advice on mezzing Pryddan! The rangers are not interested in attacking you until you attack them so you can mez him and the ones not under attack will just keep running around without hitting you or hurting Prydaan. With necro dismay I just kept up mezzing him until all rangers were dead and each person in the group took turns doing axe hand in's. If you do not have 4 tanks (one for each ranger), you need a mezzer.

    Ranger simplicity
    # Nov 14 2009 at 2:03 AM Rating: Decent
Here is the simplest way I have found to do this.

    1. If you hand in your axes and fail all you need to do to try again is to hail again. If you fail and have another toon try after - the failed toon will get credit for the ranger kills as well - this is the easiest way to do a groups effort.
    2. Bring a mezzer - mez Pyrrdan! Bards are the best cause they can fade after easily. The rangers don't know what to do and run around like tools. They are easy to single then
    3. Pull them and kill - its embarrassingly easy.

    Wow thats an old sig.

It is soloable.. As a ranger, you can cast Vineleash and it will get ALL of their attention.

They will kick your **** though.. but you can kite, run.. (I used friends to kill after I vineleashed to get all their attention)

Also to note: Only one person gets credit at a time, and it is the person who hailed. So you have to do the fight over and over for each person in group who needs it.

The crates/weapon racks are only in the AoL camps -- not the ones that aren't army of light.

Maybe that clears it up a bit.

    Take care,

    Long quest
    # Nov 11 2009 at 10:10 PM Rating: Default
This is a long quest. If doing alone or can't get through the 4 rangers when hailing Pyrrdan, I recommend following the instructions below about killing Mitor for the adds (Forest rangers) that may spawn. It is much more manageable although you may have to go thru a quite few spawns to get 4 rangers.

    This is my story..

    Rain of ruins quest:

Mitol Erinthol... ok was doing Rain of ruins quest and I flubbed up on the 4 ambushers and they ended up killing the NPC.. so I ready somewhere that you can kill Mitol and while killing him he spawns 2 adds either skirmishers , guardians or rangers or a mix. well that info is correct as of 11.07.09.. , however for me I had to kill him like 20 times maybe more wasnt keepin track but i was there for hours. rangers are a rare spawn of his i got skirmishers and guardians the most .. but i eventually did get the 4 rangers i needed.. if you only need 1 ranger I would suggest you kill Mitol. if you need 3 or 4 rangers to complete your Rain of ruins quest I would suggest starting the quest over. however if you dont have the man power to be able to agro those 4 ambushers in time and dont really mind how long it takes do the mitol kills.. you get good faction with sila or whatever her name is and its not bad aa exp for a low lvl.. and 3 mobs are alot easier than 4 plus trying to keep an NPC alive..

Note: one time a ranger spawned and I didnt see my bards tank merc while I was fighting a skirmisher and when skirmisher was almost dead here comes tank merc so when i turned to kill ranger seen it only had 30% life left and when we killed it didnt get exp . credit or loot so merc stole the kill.. pissed me off cuase id already been there for over an hour and rangers are rare .. at least they were with me. bard mezed the 2 adds when attacking mitol so was not hard but even if i didnt mez with 85 bst and pet and tank merc and t5 cleric merc was not a problem as long as u can slow em.. \

For kiters, there's an alternate solution using this step. Agro Mitor by rooting him to get his help to spawn. If you get a ranger, park that and run the trash over to the Obliteration camp to get it killed quickly. Return to the ranger(s) and beat them down below 50%, making sure to re-park Mitor as needed. Run 49% and lower rangers over to the Obliteration camp to get them killed, then run off the Mitor agro. When he loses track of you, go back to him, repeat the process.

This takes a bit of finesse, but I was able to get it done on my 80 Ranger. Be careful not to drag Mitor close enough to the Obliteration camp to gain agor, or you'll have to wait on the respawn.

when the rangers spawn, they are mezzable as well as Pyrrdan. the good thing about it though is that he doesn't agro you once the mezz wears off. can AE Mez then single mez the rangers. I don't know if this will help you guys, b ut good luck.. it's a really easy fight. they do have quite an HP pool, so bring some DPS for it, or you'll be there for a hot minute.

I found a way around the ambush part guys. If you fail you can get rangers to spawn by attacking Mitor Errinthol he will spawn rangers skirmishers or guardians might have to do it several times. Easier to fight 3 mobs instead of 4 without protecting a spawn lol. Hope this helps someone confirmed a quest update for the kills on 9-1-09

This worked for me and definitely made it soloable - especially a druid. Snare and root Mitol, 2 mobs will spawn shortly thereafter (rangers, guardians, or skimishers). If ranger pops, snare and root the others and kite ranger away. Evac after killing ranger. If no ranger pops, just evac and start again. Adds depop as soon as you zone (ie succor/egress/exodus) so you can try again. No need to kill anything but rangers. Took about an hour to complete that step.

OK, an update since things seemed to have changed a bit.
When doing the Pyrrdon and forest rangers part. You can't heal Pyrrdon. If you hail with more than one person each adds 4 forest rangers to the fight. I hailed with 2 alts thinking it was needed for each but got 8 forest rangers.
Once Pyrrdon dies (opps) you can't just hail him again. Need someone else to do the task up to that point then group with him and then hail Pyrrdon. Anyone outside the group will not get the task update.
If you loose your firebrand for some reason you can go back to T'vyl and get another one. She would'nt give me another till the following day. Odd.

Good luck with this one. Pyrrdon does'nt seem to have a lot of HPs.

for the "Destroy Army of Light supply crates" part -- you can simply /open them, don't have to use the firebrand on anything.

I have attempted to 3 box this now 6 times. I have 6 wipes and 1 update of 4 on the killing rangers part. This zone is just too laggy but if there was just a little more time it would be ok. I guess it would be ok if I didnt have to repeat the WHOLE task each time. I am thinking I wont bother with a seventh. I hate repeating tasks too much. I don't wanna bother getting my alts the extra 10 lvls each they probably need. I can do everything else just fine. Just this one task.

I have turned off my comp now, In disgust and frustration, I am this close () to quitting on my boxes and just playing my main. That will be a sad day. Every other step is ridiculously easy so why dont they have this quest killer right at the beginning?

Why would you need to repeat the whole task 6 times? If Pyrrdan dies you simply wait for him to respawn and let next person turn their axes in to start the script. Once you succeed, any person that has already turned in the axes gets the update. Simple as pie.

Just try to get some strangers to assist you if you're other characters are too low. Bloody Kithicor is a fairly popular zone.
