This task begins with Raxtor Darkpaw in the far southwest of Oceangreen Hills (at the Darkpaw camp). It follows his first task, "Freedom!".

    You say, 'Hail, Raxtor Darkpaw'

From here, you'll get one of two responses...

Raxtor Darkpaw says 'You not stinky for human. [Darkpaw clan] need help to stop Blackburrow clan. They dirty, smelly clan all the time. Yip! Now they crazy clan too. Darkpaw clan small now, so you make Blackburrow clan [not be crazy]?'

Raxtor Darkpaw says 'You good human. You not smell too bad either. Bark! Now Raxtor ask big favor for you. Blackburrow clan insane. They steal pups. Do bad things to pups. They dirty clan always, but now they insane. Raxtor ask you to kill Blackburrow leader, Chief Vel'tix. Vel'tix make clan crazy. Yip! With no Vel'tix, Raxtor help Blackburrow clan, lead them to not be crazy. You [help] make Blackburrow clan not crazy?'

    Both lead into the task:

    Raxtor Darkpaw says 'Yap!'
    Raxtor Darkpaw says 'Yip!'

You have been assigned the task 'Beat the Blackburrow Boss'.

Raxtor has learned to trust you and has asked you to do something very important for the Darkpaw clan. They want revenge on the Blackburrow clan for what they have done. They want you to kill the leader of the Blackburrow clan.

Raxtor can't tell you where the new chief of Blackburrow clan resides. He is certain, however, that special guards follow him wherever he goes, and so they will need to be dealt with. Killing the clan leader will achieve the revenge the Darkpaw crave.

Travel to the entrance of Blackburrow and open the door 0/1 (Oceangreen Hills)

The entrance is the same as the non-instanced Blackburrow.

Find the new leader of the blackburrow clan 0/1 (Blackburrow)

This update is in the northeast part of the zone, where the high commanders can typically be found. Location: -78, -370, -35. You'll be knocked back upon approach:

You are thrown back by powerful protective magics.

Find a way to get past the ward 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Blackburrow Runestones drop from gnarl type gnolls throughout the zones. As of a patch in December 2013, you only need one of these items. Previously, you needed at least two, but this is no longer the case.

Approach the knockback area the furthest you can without being pushed back. Click the rune here.

    If too far away:
You are very near the lair of the Chief of the Blackburrow gnolls, but not there yet!

With only one clicker (note: no longer applies):
You have weakened the warding, but alone you know you cannot turn it off.
You sense that two separate stones are required to turn off the warding.

    Upon success:
You have dropped the wards guarding the chief’s lair.

'Persuade' the leader of the Blackburrow to help you 0/1 (Blackburrow)

You'll have to fight Clan Chief Vel`tix and two burly gnolls (located in the room you just broke into). Kill the two adds and fight the Clan Chief until he emotes at 50%. NOTE: Make sure you don't over-DPS him to the point of killing him, otherwise you may bug the task.

Clan Chief Vel`tix shouts 'Wait! Yip! Stop! I, I surrender. Vel`tix not want to die for crazy [Gnarls]! You kill them, not Vel`tix!'

    You say, 'Gnarls?'

Clan Chief Vel`tix says 'Gnarls, the ugly ones! They take away Blackburrow gnolls and do [terrible things] to them. Bark! That why we take Darkpaw pups, so Gnarls not take our pups.'

    You say, 'What terrible things?'

Clan Chief Vel`tix says 'Vel`tix not know what they do. Not want to know. You take key. You go fight with Gnarls. Leave Vel`tix and Blackburrow clan alone!'

    Receive Vel`tix's key.

Use key Vel'tix to get into hidden area 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Vel`tix, in the last moments of his life, seemed to suddenly break free of some powerful charm magic. The symbol he gave you is obviously potent magic. Now, if you can find the door that it opens you might just figure out what's going on here.

From the base of the waterfall area in lower Blackburrow, go east up a tunnel until you come to a door guarded by two burly gnolls. This is the locked door.

    You unlock the door.
    The door is unlocked.

Kill the frightening, deformed gnarled gnoll 0/1 (Blackburrow)

Gnarl Sawbones Brankt can be found in the chamber leading up from the doorway. Kill him for the update and get out as soon as possible, as a quick death awaits you if you hang around.

Gnarl Sawbones Brankt shouts 'S... S... So the i... i... invaders arrive! Now I g... ge... G... Get to u... Use m... M... My c... Cutting ssssskills on someone n... New!'

This is a fairly simple fight. He hits for a max ~2,200 and casts one spell: "Lower Limb Amputation Strike".

Lower Limb Amputation Strike: Directional 80', Magic (-300)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 2050 per tick (5 ticks))
    2: Decrease Movement by 40%

You have slain Gnarl Sawbones Brankt!
Gnarl Sawbones Brankt's corpse shouts 'Nooooooo! C... C... Come to my aid, b... Brrrr... Brothers!'

You hear a large number of creatures moving your way. You seem to have accomplished your task, perhaps escape is the better part of valor.

Deliver 1 Blackburrow Runestone to Raxtor Darkpaw 0/1 (Oceangreen Hills)

Deliver 1 Vel'tix key to Raxtor Darkpaw 0/1 (Oceangreen Hills)

Raxtor is grateful for your help. He mentions something about his chance to gain control. Whatever he plans, you're certain that it's going to take more than your small group to defeat the creatures that you glimpsed behind that door.

Your faction standing with Cirtan, Bayle's Herald got better.

Clan Chief Vel`tix do not drop the key. I reported the quest and then I was awarded the key and could finish the quest.

Be quick leaving. I was not and the legion came and wiped me. I was prepared with a Fellowship fire so I just came back and ressed.

Did you fight the chief until he got to 50% and then go through the dialog to get the key?

    Hi all,

Be careful. You can kill Clan Chief Vel`tix and bug the mission.

I did this mission on June 27th, 2013. My rogue assassinated Clan Chief Vel`tix and I had no way to get the key. I had to leave the zone for 30 mins to reset the instance (and my task updates).

Second time around I put in a 1HB weapon in my main hand to avoid the assassination and the task worked fine.

Clan Chief: Once the barrier was down, I took a couple of steps into the Red Axe room aggroing the Chief and a pair of Gnoll Shaman. My SK HT'd one of the Shaman Gnolls which suddenly warped back into the room at full health. I stepped further into the room for aggro then backed out trying to pull them out of the room. They started to come out then warped back into the room loosing all aggro. Dang wasted my HT and I'm not a fan but Zerging into the room was the only way to do this.

Gnarl Sawbones: I aggro'd him by accident when I stepped into his room and began to look for him so I killed him very close to the entrance. This was very fortunate because his posse of spawned Gnolls occured on the opposite side of the room so I had enough time to gate/origin out.

Anyone know what the level gap is for SoD missions? I tried doing this mission with a 91 a 95 and a 70 (average level 85.3333) and it told me that the level gap was too large. Anyone know? I kind of remember someone saying it was 10 levels but i honestly don't remember.

    Thanks in advance.

    Bugged Mission
    # Jul 22 2011 at 11:20 AM Rating: Decent
Just wanted to let everyone know, that if you kill the final mob BEFORE you beat the boss down to 50%, you WILL be bugged. We did this mission the other day and our puller, a Monk, used an illusion to get through the locked door and pull the deformed boss mob to us. At the time, we hadn't been able to find Clan Chief Vel`tix or his guards. After this we found the Clan Chief, beat him to 50% and got the keys, but when we went to do the final fight, of course the boss wasn't there, and we all got slaughtered by the mobs in the room. We discovered the hard way you can't damage them if you do the final fight out of order. So heads up people, don't go out of order or you'll have to do the whole mission over again.

You need some serious upclose and tight pulls to avoid deaths here if death is possible for your group. Best to rush everything if possible. Pathing will in fact kill; you pull one, 1 adds, he brings 3 friends, and they each bring 3 friends because they path through groups of mobs in other rooms on the way to you. A heads up.
    Final Turn-ins
    # Oct 10 2010 at 7:18 PM Rating: Decent
Just an FYI and something we found out kinda the hard way tonight..... You can NOT turn in the key before you turn in the 2 runes. Raxtor will tell you he has no need for it and give it back until the 2 pieces of the rune are turned in.
    Additional Info
    # May 11 2010 at 5:46 AM Rating: Decent
The fastest way is to clear on the surface towards the hole, then levitate down to the bridge. There is always an undead gnoll behind the door.

Clan Chief Vel`tix and his two burly gnolls are leashed to the room.

After getting the key, return to the bridge and levitate down to the water level, look for a safe spot and clear towards the end room.

Once Gnarl Sawbones Brankt is down run or port out fast before you get swamped by adds.

If you have killed the Boss and you die after that (got jumped by a complete bunch of Legionaire Gnarls/Gnolls or something after some hours of playing) and you rebuff/rezz in PoK and you go back to BB (perhaps to get some named after the boss for some items), then the whole crap restarts again. No chance to give the 2 runes to Raxtor to end the task - you have to completely redo it. That is really a stupid bug.

It is possible that you just ran into the standard "instance resets if nobody zones in for 30 minutes" issue. If you leave an instanced zone related to a task empty for too long (no players in the zone, corpses don't count), then the zone resets, but the task does not immediately reset. After the zone has reset, the moment someone attempts to re-enter the zone, your task steps will clear and reset to the beginning, keeping only the steps that are done before anyone first enters the instanced zone.

As long as nobody tries to zone back into the instance, then the task will not reset. If you had all your turn-in items on you at the end, you could theoretically have turned them in to Raxtor without the task having reset.

Do you remember how long it took for at least one person from the task to return to the zone? Perhaps you took a very long time to rebuff/rez in PoK, and the zone reset on you.

See this patch note from June 29, 2005 for some details:

    https://everquest.allakhazam.com/history/patches-2005-1.html

    Quote:
    - Increased the amount of time that a mission zone can be empty of players before it
shuts down from 15 to 30 minutes. This should help groups who completely wipe out get
back to the zone before it shuts down and resets.

Note: I'm not sure the timer was really increased to 30 minutes. I have observed instanced zones resetting in a time that I felt sooner than that recently, but I did not time those cases exactly.

If you finish OGH by doing the raid version of BB boss and not group you will be able to zone into void E but will NOT have Korafax access. Just wanted to share my information. It took me a while to track down why I could zone into void E but was getting the "you do not meet the requirements for that zone" message.....If you do raid versions you need to do ALL raids, or ALL groups from what I've found.

I see many posts about the encounter with Clan Chief Vel`tix, and his health stopping at 50%, and him surrendering. This was not the case when i went through last night @ 9:15PM EST on E-marr.
Had a full group, 85 bar, 85 SK + merc, and 3 77+ mage's. By coincidence, all mages (myself being one of them) had Host of the Elements up, and used it on him @ around 80% (i assure you this was a coincidence). Anyways, he ended up @ 16% before he surrendered, im assuming it was due to too much DPS, but immediately healed to 50% and started emoting. Got scared when we watched his HP's drop by 5%/tick with only Host + Swarm Pets on him, since us Mage's have no control over them once they start attacking (that i know of).
Just what i noticed. If i get into another group doing this mission, ill attempt to duplicate and take a screen shot in case no one belive's me.

Find a way to get past the ward 0/1 (Blackburrow)

    The next step is:

'Persuade' the leader of the Blackburrow to help you 0/1 (Blackburrow)

not defeat the leader, that is not a real step.

So first off, nothing repops, as its a instance zone.
I recommend clearing some of the mobs at the ent, especially the gnarl ones for the 2 runes you need. and the see invis as well.

Then jump down main hole in middle, with lev on, and land on the rope bridge.
Go up the bridge to the door side. kill reaver on other side. This is the same way you go on the way to the pup rooms on the freedom mission.

Now, after reaver, bear left from the rope bridge to your first intersection, which will be a 4 way. Straight across are two gnarl gnolls, kill them if they see invis, imho.

Just left of these two gnarls, is where you can click both runes, and up ahead to the right is the boss and his two guards. If you creep up close enough to see them, they will aggro on you. kill em all, guards first. then boss to 50% and stop. chat with him and get the key.

Now with the key, go to the bottom of that main hole with the waterfall that you dropped down earlier.
Drop all the way to the water.
This lake drains out and down on one side.
When facing that side, to your right is a tunnel heading up to the right.
Up this tunnel is a door ( an iron grate door, not a wooden one like the others in the zone )

this is the locked door. You dont need to kill the gnolls outside the door, just open it while invis and rush in and zerg the boss.

Hope this helps ( none of the posts i found below gave good directions how to find everything, so here is my description. )

I found the comments here a little lacking, and it took me about 2hr to find everything - here's some info:

-any 'gnarl' mob can drop the runestone - you need two people to loot these.
-both have to be clicked rather quickly, pretty close to the two 'a burly guard'
-guards WILL aggro you when you click, I had FD handy, but those without, beware
-you have to fight the chief with his two guards, both were LB to me so not an issue, but beware. I was unable to split them
-the locked gate, took me FOREVER to find. Here's where it is: from the entrance, go to the pit dead ahead and drop down to the waters below. Swim around and you'll see one gnoll sitting on an earth outcropping, jump up there and follow the tunnel East to the locked gate. The gnolls guarding didn't see through my invis. The named gnarl is through there and hits about 2k - I didn't get any adds with him, looks like a pretty empty room.

GL to all, finding the gate took longer than everything else - gotta love the layout of BB

    -Cathir, member of Unholy Czars

:Edit: on the locked gate, its not exactly behind that lone gnoll, NW of him there's a line of rocks in the water, from there head East to the gate.

rofl I totally blew it with my box group and tried to burn the Clan Chief, meanwhile he burnt my 2 tank mercs and then proceeded to finish me off while I tried feebly to regroup, let my shamen tank the 2 left (the chief and one guard) and then took off running to gate with the chanter.. the 2 de-agroed and went back to positions while I stood waiting for gait to refresh in the large room just outside of the chiefs den...

so if you blow the initial run on him just back up to the main room just outside of his area and you can go it again.

went back and only had 1 guard left still...

Also is nice to know, that if you fight him JUST outside of his room, (the round area where he and the 2 guards are) and keep your healers/whatever else u dont want to get agroed, further out of the room than your tanks, when he does agro them, he will bounc back to his spawn point, as u cant pull him out of the room... so that helped me when he agroed on my merc cleric the second round.

A pretty goofy fight both times, I think overall its a funny one.

This is indeed one of the progression tasks, however SOD progression isnt as straight forward as previous expansions.

Completing the progression missions for any one arc (Ohills, Kith, FOS etc) flags you for void B. Completing any second arc flags you for void C, etc etc. So its quite possible to even be in void D and never have done this mission.

Also, there is a second flagging route for the Ohills arc. If you win the Queen Malarian raid and the BB raid then you also are flagged with having completed the Ohills void access line.

So while most people will do this for void B access it is indeed possible to be in void B without doing it. Its just the easiest way to get there.
