Kerrin the Unkempt is found deep in the caves behind the waterfall at +6448, -337, 5.

You say, 'Hail, Kerrin the Unkempt'

Kerrin the Unkempt says 'Hail. I see you have remained friendly with the bears here. If they trust you, then I shall as well. Do you seek [wisdom]? Or, more likely, you are a member of Antonius Bayle's group and you seek our [assistance]. Regardless, I suggest that you not drink the water here, not even in this cave, for something has fouled it and only the bears seem to be able to drink it safely.'

You say, 'I seek your assistance.'

Kerrin the Unkempt says 'His druid ally has approached us and we have agreed that it would be in our best interests to work together to fight this evil, but there is little we can offer the Hierophant or the warrior Bayle. We specialize in knowledge of plants. That is why we came to this place a while ago, to study the great trees. Now they have been corrupted and my heart is broken. I'm afraid it is we that need help with our own [duties] as well as those that might [aid] your friend Antonius.'

You say, 'I will give aid'

Kerrin the Unkempt says 'Of course this would not be just for Antonius, you would be aiding the creatures of this small glade as well. We seek a cure to the illness that has taken so many fine treants, livebriars and young treelings. We hope that finding such a cure will assist Seradi with a cure for the illness that plagues the creatures of this land as well. Will you help us?'

    You receive a Stone Vial.

You have been assigned the task 'Cure the Crud'.

You have volunteered to assist Kerrin the Unkempt in her quest to cure the sentient plants of the glade in the cave. She needs you to test out the only cure that she has been able to devise that might work.

The first thing she wishes you to try is mixing the the following herbs and plants: Oceangreen Wheatgrass, Pinecones and Mild Acid. Kerrin said that you can easily make the acid from maggots that can be found in the area. Just grind up several in the container she gave you, then add the rest of the ingredients.

Create the healing elixir thet Kerrin described to you. 0/1 (ALL)

Combine four foraged Maggots in the Stone Vial to craft Mild Maggot Acid. Combine the Mild Maggot Acid with a Pinecone (foraged) and Oceangreen Wheatgrass (foraged) to craft a Vial of Curative Elixir. The Stone Vial is used up in the second combine.

Use the healing elixir on several of the sick plants in the hidden glade. 0/6 (Oceangreen Hills)

Fight the shrubs and trees in the glade down to about 50% health, at which point you can use the elixir on them. Eligible targets include "a blackbriar," "a tottering treant," "a desiccated treeling".

Speak with Kerrin the Unkempt 0/1 (Oceangreen Hills)

You say, 'Hail, Kerrin the Unkempt'

Kerrin appears quite saddened by the failure of the cure. She is grateful for your assistance, however.

Kerrin the Unkempt says 'Ah, so the cure did not help. Well, I guess we have no choice then. This place must be cleansed. We'll have to prune away the diseased limbs if we have any hope of saving the tree. Can you be our [shears]?'

Your faction standing with Bayle's Irregulars got better.
Your faction standing with Residents of the Glade got better.
Your faction standing with Oceangreen Residents got better.
Your faction standing with Cirtan, Bayle's Herald got better.

    Reward:
    - Experience
    - Faction
    - 80 Chronobines

Responding to her dialogue unlocks the next task in the series, "Stop the Spreading."

Got the four maggots, and one Oceangreen Wheatgrass item. Not having any luck at all with the pinecone though. Is there any possible way to get it faster? I have forage at the current 50 cap, and cannot increase AAXP at the moment. The mild maggot acid is a temporary item should it is best to avoid creating it until you have everything else.

Did you check the baz on your server?

Or ask in general chat if anyone has one or could help you forage one. I know I will go forage stuff for others when they are not able.

Be careful doing this with a higher level character, if you kill them too fast you do not get credit for applying the elixir. I had to dismiss my pet, turn my back to the mob, click the elixir and wait for my damage shield to wear them down below 50% to get credit. Once you see the second emote (below 50%) you can kill them, but a one shot while they are at 90% will not give you credit.

Occasionally you get another message that is a single message that basically says something to the effect of "the wet bark looks like someone else has already applied an elixir to this mob". It uses one of the charges on the elixir and does not give you credit towards the quest. Between this and killing them too fast the first time around I ran out of charges and had to drop the quest and start over. I tried different phrases to get a second elixir from Kerrin with no success.

The first time I foraged at the fort in OGH with 2 toons and it took hours (forage at 100 and 150). The second time I went into Bertoxx and it took about 30 minutes to get the maggots.

It should be stated that you just have to use the potion six times. It doesn't have to heal them or do anything. It's supposed to say that nothing happened. After you click it on six briars then you go back to Kerrin. I made the mistake of getting numerous vials in hopes it cured the mob... ugh. lol

Temple of Bertox is the way to go on foraging Maggots. Went there after an hour and a half in Oceangreen Hills and not getting one. 30 minutes in Temple of Bertox just at the zone in, invised, I got 12 maggots for my three box. Only druid foraging. Hope this helps.

Just spent an hour in Temple with no maggots. All I foraged were water pods and rancid water. Forage skill at 185.

Caution- Maggots are edible. To my chagrin, I ate 2 maggots because I had no food in inventory.

Good call on foraging in the Temple. I got a couple of maggots sitting in the unkempt cave while I was getting the other items..but the temple has a MUCH better chance of getting the maggots and I quickly got the remaining needed maggots at the zone-in for the temple (doing the quest x3)

Very little success outside. Mucho success inside. Thanks for the tip. I've done this on 3 toons and it was much, much faster to forage them in the temple.

I was logged out overnight (about 20 hours) and the Vial of Curative Elixir was still in my pack. The Mild Maggot Acid is temporary, so you should be ready to do the second (and final) combine before making the Mild Maggot Acid.

Make sure if you are doing the combine to use it right away.
I didn't and logged out for the night. When I logged in again it was gone and didn't figure it out till I foraged all the pieces again.

Fight the shrubs and trees in the glade down to about 50% health, at which point you can use the elixir on them. Eligible targets include "a blackbriar," "a tottering treant," "a desiccated treeling" (any others?).

It worked on "a defiled ancient treant" as well.

I did this quest many timeso n different toons. It never failed on a combine so im guessing it is a no fail combine. Also you can cast the elixer on the mob any time you want and when it gets to certain health it will update.

On top of that, only one person can cast the elixer on a mob at once, so if you have 2 people doing this you will have to kill 12 mobs.

I was able to recieve this task without doing any other faction tasks. She is located behind the waterfall, take all lefts and go through the water.
