This is a special one week only raid which was first introduced from June 9, 2008 to June 15, 2008. You must have at least six and no more than 54 people in your raid.

Whizzlebang Twempt can be found in the Steamfont Mountains between the zone lines for Loping Plains and Dragonscale Hills.

You say, 'Hail, Whizzlebang Twempt'

Whizzlebang Twempt says 'Well Well! you look foolish... er... Strong and Powerful! What would you say to a business [proposition]?'

You say, 'What proposition?'

Whizzlebang Twempt says 'Well it's simple enough ______. Being the observant ______ I know you are, I'm sure you've noticed the large floating contraption in this area! That monstrosity must be dealt with and the Ak'anon Strike Force is on the [job]!'

You say, 'What job?'

Whizzlebang Twempt says 'It's clear to us in the ASF that we must fight clockwork with clockwork. That's why we are proud to have constructed our I.R.A. to deal with the upstart Meldrath. Once we have worked out the, er, [kinks] we'll be able to swiftly deal with this situation!'

You say, 'What kinks?'

Whizzlebang Twempt says 'Well, with any ambitious project there are bound to be problems to overcome! Surely you know that! Actually, ______, that's why I am so glad you stopped by! You see, we need some help with a few easy [tests]. If you are [interested], I assure you that you and any friends you bring along will be richly rewarded.'

You say, 'What tests?'

Whizzlebang Twempt says 'It's quite simple. The I.R.A. is our Infinitely Regenerative Automaton. Designed and constructed to be an unstopable and destructive force, I.R.A will recover from any defeat and return stronger and stronger! All we need now are a few practice runs. Are you [interested]?'

You say, 'I am interested.'

Whizzlebang Twempt says 'Excellent ______! Please let me know when you are [ready] and I will transport you to our secret testing facility. Good luck and we assure that your next of kin will be contacted in the event that anything unexpected might occur while you are assisting with our testing!'

You say "ready"

Wizzelebag Twempt says "Have a good time ! Oh, one last note, As part of this test we've place a time limit on the testing protocol. You will have 1 hour to work through as many testing routines as possible. Don't worry you will still be richly rewarded at the end of the test!"

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Infinitely Regenerative Automaton (I.R.A.).

Here, you will encounter a giant steamwork named I.R.A. The event is initiated by aggro'ing it. It hits for a max ~5,100 to begin with and spawns adds:

a clockwork basher (AE rampages; immune to mez)
a clockwork whirlygig (single-target rampages; mezzable for the first four waves)
a flexible repair unit (flurries; immune to mez)

I.R.A. also casts "Acid Blast" on its target, which will increase the amount of damage taken:

Acid Blast: Single Target, (-100 Corruption)
1: Skill Damage Taken(30)
2: Increase corruption counter by 4

This is an endurance encounter which takes place in waves. A wave is beaten when I.R.A. reaches 5%. When this occurs, it goes inactive for two minutes and gains strength. Rinse and repeat until your raid wipes out, OR until you tell Whizzlebang Twempt (at the zone-in) that you've had enough.

You say, 'Hail, Whizzlebang Twempt'

Whizzlebang Twempt says 'If you've [had enough] and want to end the test then let me know. I'll try not to be too disparaging about your performance when I relate the test results to my colleagues. You can [leave] any time you like.'

Rewards scale based on how other guilds/raids do on your server. The raid that makes it to the furthest wave receives the best reward.

Once you have beaten the event.

Whizzlebang says "Excellent work my friends ! This short test is invaluable to us in fine tuning I.R.A into an unstoppable resource in our struggle !"

The Ak'Anon Strike Force is looking for a few good adventurers to help them with their latest project. In their efforts to defeat Meldrath once and for all, these brave gnomes constructed an unstoppable clockwork juggernaut: I.R.A., the Infinitely Regenerative Automaton. Before they unleash I.R.A., however, they need to test it out. Are you up for the challenge?

Rules: When players activate the raid scenario, I.R.A. will spawn along with some smaller clockwork brethren. Every time a raid force diminishes I.R. A. to 5% of its total hit points, it will deactivate. This signals the end of a wave. I.R.A. will reactivate automatically after two minutes, initiating a new wave. The way to "win" this raid is for a player raid group to withstand the highest number of waves on a specific server. Players can end the raid at any time after each wave.

Rewards: Individual rewards for this raid event will be calculated based on the best attempt for each player. Every participant in a raid group on each server will receive a clockwork abacus that is used to track their progress. Once the results for all raids have been tabulated across all servers, a scaling item reward* will be given to players based on their relative performance in the raid. If you've lost your abacus, hail Distribution Facilitator XCV in the Plane of Knowledge (just outside the Guild Lobby entrance) for a replacement.

The first round of this raid scenario ends on 11:00PM PT on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, so get ready to have some fun!

today a 2nd run on this raid and I notice that message when getting the raid:

You say "ready"

Wizzelebag Twempt says "Have a good time ! Oh, one last note, As part of this test we've place a time limit on the testing protocol. You will have 1 hour to work through as many testing routines as possible. Don't worry you will still be richly rewarded at the end of the test!"

this explain why the event stop after one hour. It seems also the raid called "Sprint" can't be activated anymore as the dialogue does not allow the choice.

wave n°12 : IRA and adds were light blue at 105

Tanked this last night through 29 rounds (assumed since aug reward was XXIX). Mob turned red con about round 23-4.

Initial round max hit was ~1k, no spells noticed.
Acid blast started landing ~round 6
Flamethrower started landing toward 20th round. NASTY dot for 14k/tic to front arc.

By my final round, IRA was hitting for max 30k (seldom) on me (89 war, 30CS, max def mods, 6.7k AC with bracing def running).

The mob's accuracy is terrible. With commanding voice, it could go 3 rounds without landing a hit (31CA). What finally wiped us was the adds plus flamethrower.

Adds all spawn in a pile at IRA's feet faceing front. MT will get proxy aggro if kiters dont tag quickly.

Good luck.

IRA as a parse mob

Could those of you with a developer's ear suggest they turn IRA into a group parse mob after the event is over? Make it group instead of raid instance, turn off the adds. Either increase its HP or regen and could make a good parse mob. Might needs to turn down how much it hit for, but would be a path of putting a parse mob in the game.
Repeated Attempts Made Easier?

My guild wanted to tackle this raid and was committed to repeated attempts in order to learn the strategy. However, after a wipe and leaving the task, we couldn't get our corpses to leave the instance in a timely manner and ended up summoning and rezzing in guild hall.

We did this three times last night ... each time we got further along in the wave(s), but with 3 hours to raid, the time delays for summoning/guildlobby rezzes in between attempts were significant and deterred further attempts as the hour grew late.

Is there a way to get corpses back quickly at the npc outside the instance so we can rezz and buff without the expense and delays?

Unfortunately it takes a long time for the corpses to pop outside, but you *could* send in someone to shut the whole thing down by talking to Whizzlebang inside the instance. The problem with this is I.R.A will most likely summon whoever zones in.

You can avoid a total wipe simply by saying "sure" to Whizzlebang at any time during the event.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Whizzlebang Twempt says 'If you've [had enough] and want to end the test then let me know. I'll try not to be too disparaging about your performance when I relate the test results to my colleagues. You can [leave] any time you like.'
You say, 'had enough'
Whizzlebang Twempt says 'Are you [sure] Heartz?'
You say, 'sure'
Whizzlebang shouts 'Thank you for your time! Heartz informs me that you have had enough and wish to end this test! If you wish to [leave] please let me know.'
Here's the event in a nutshell.
You trigger it by saying interested to the gnome in Steamfont. Each person then says ready to the gnome to be ported in.
This takes place in Tinmizer's Wunderwerks, the same instance as big bynn.
IRA is a huge gnomework in the center of the large room. He's rooted in place.
As you fight him he spawns adds, how they are spawned is confusing at best. There are at least 4 types of adds. They are time based but then it gets confusing.
It's not based on initial aggro because we've sat there for some time with him targeting various raid members. It must be based on from engagement or some other factor.
It's possible the adds are based on certain hp %s. There are 3 intial adds, copter models. We've had these pop as early as 80ish and as late as 59%. When they popped early, it was 1, 2, 3, then around 70% we started getting bashers (the second type of adds) 9ish I believe. When we got the first add later (59) we would end up getting the bashers mixed in with the copters.
The first 3 are mezzable, bashers are confirmed as not, don't think we check on the later ones. Just kite everything. Nothing snares, nothing roots. The copters are highly resistant.
When you get him to 5% adds depop and he powers down. You get approx 2 minutes till he activates again. He's regening during power down. He gets to about 23% and goes live again, however he instantly goes to 100%.
Each wave he gains a level as do the adds. Both he and the adds then hit harder.
Seeing the description in the patch for this event, I was hoping it to be a fun group and larger activity. Something like the free the slaves event in Nurga. Something that could be done by average players. Hitting for up to 5100 is not average players. That's about 3 melee hits for anyone I know. High end raiders only need apply.
It sounded so cool, I'd half expected to see mobs start in waves of 5 or so at maybe 55 and scale 5 levels at a time and/or add 1 every wave. I'd at least hoped we could beat 1 level. Can't even enter the **** thing, as I have only 5 people online right now but so much the better cause we'd last about 4 seconds anyway.
I agree with you.
For fun though, do the The Arena Master's Challenge progressive tasks. I found it one of the funnest encounters in EQ and similar to what you're talking about.
That looks like a ton of fun! Too bad most aren't mezzable but you can't have everything! We'll be trying this one out, thanks for the link!
lemmie preface this with the statement that i do not post messages about the supposed inequalities of this game that i love so much, and i do, ive got toons from test to zek and enjoy them all, with that said.
~WTF~
so this mob, for this "special event", meant to welcome back "old" players, is a level 80-85 mob that spawns adds of equal levels, hits for 5.1K with a 1min DoT that lands for 7.3Kish, is meant for people returning to the game? after gods only know how long.
This is crap. this is another batch of spew meant to please the uber guilds that sony already spends to much time catering to. ya wanna know what? its crap like this that made them same folks leave in the first place. its no wonder populations across all servers are dwindling to such pathetic numbers, the average player, at least players of my ilk, sees this constant pandering to, what is i guess in sony's mind is thier cash cow, the legendary uber raider, the ones that will most like never leave, just like theyve never left thier mothers basements.
now go ahead and nit pick what ive said and make yerselves feel better, flame away i stand by it. just my 2 copper
Actually the Lower Guk change(july 7th), the 25% extra xp in hot zones, the free SoF access during the next month, the Defiant armor, etc. is for the returning players.
Feel free to spew your 2 cents wherever you want but the raiders didn't need free SoF access, they didn't need the Lower Guk change and they definitely didn't need the Defiant armor. So other than a few of them gearing up their twinks with Defiant armor and xping in hot zones, most raiders get nothing from this Living Legacy thing.
The 4 raids are for raiders and the first wave is at least Anguish, more Demiplane level. They can be done by pickup raids on many servers since there's no lockout and everyone gets the reward regardless of what guild they are in. Most servers have pickup raids that can at least do the first 1-2 levels, if you don't know about the one on your server ask around. Maelin's current one is the Lemming Raid Night(LRN) and I believe they do up to Demiplane.
So, Sony only "panders" to the raiding guilds? I suppose thats why you can go to the bazaar and buy 300+ hp/mana armor, then go to steam factory or ship.. and get steam cores, then turn that into 500 hp/mana armor.. then go to Crystallos and get essenses and further increase the hp/mana ac of said armor, till its better than the Armor we're currently raiding to in Frostcrypt/Ashengate, Heck even to an extent Solteris.. They "pandered" to the raiding guilds by giving away free access to zones it took raiders months to get access too.. You got pretty much free access to loot and zones, meanwhile raiders still work hard to get what they have and it doesnt come free. It's not the raiders who have ruined Everquest, they played the game the way it was designed. It was the folks that wanted everquest turned into EverClaim that made this game the way it is today.
Now with that said, I didnt have any problem with new armor, steam cores, essences.. People getting access to zones I worked my **** off to get into, It didnt even bother me when they changed AA's so folks with few aa's would gain them at twice the rate I do or did when I acrued mine.. What I do take offense to is some duck **** coming on here running their trap about how Sony simply panders to the raider.. I've seen no such thing lately. Perhaps you should open your eyes.
5100 is incorrect.
He casts acid blast http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=13591&source=Live
His max is hard to determine because when you have acid blast on you he can hit for up to 7300 iirc at 4500 ac.
Each wave you complete he gets higher lvl and hits harder, adds rise to match him. Wave 1 white con, wave 2 yellow, and so on.
Bring dps and kiters...
