This is the final task in a series of five. Its purpose is to update a step in a grand task, 'The Invasion of the Defilers'. After finishing the fourth task, 'Defense of the Village', you can request this task from Valthun Woodswatcher in the Kirathas village of the Hills of Shade.

Valthun Woodswatcher says 'How much more grief must my people be brought by these defilers!' Valthun appears to be on the verge of tears, but his anger is obviously ruling his mind. 'One of them has defiled my beloved daughter and now Tuluria sends runners, the beasts are planning another attack. Go! Go to Tuluria and ensure that the monsters are destroyed!'
You have been assigned the task 'Last Stand Into Eternity'.
Despite their ghostly nature, these Elddar were deeply saddened by the loss of friends and family. It is clear to you now that these elves are not seeing exactly the same world that you see. They can only see the past, a past that they appear to relive over and over again. What tragedy could have caused such a thing?

Elder Scout Tuluria sighs. 'Such pain should never have been brought to our people, . We must stop these Humans. We must end their threat to our people. My scouts have seen them moving upon the village through the shallow valleys to the east. You must stop them. They bring all their forces. This will be their final assault. Fendel is overjoyed, 'It's been so long! I never thought I'd see you again.'

You appear to have relived the past, a past played over an over again by these poor souls. The tragedy is real to them every time it happens, and you see clearly that their curse, while tragic, was not undeserved.
As you watched father slay daughter and heard the words of Erollisi, things became clear. The child is important, you know that. This must have been the first meeting of Elddar and Human, and that child must have been the first born of a mingling of the two. Such tragedy, doomed to be repeated forever, has born some good.
Amber says, 'Welcome back, my love. I want you to meet our daughter.'
A shadowy figure emerges unseen and slips behind Amber.
The shadowy figure speaks, revealing himself as Valthun, 'You continue to betray my trust by fraternizing with the corruptors. For the good of us all, this must end now.'
Amber slumps to the floor, quivering in a pool of her own blood.
Fendel collapses to his knees.
Fendel screams, 'Gods, no! How could you?!'
Erollisi Marr speaks, 'This union, of which I gave my personal blessing, has produced nothing more than bloodshed, anguish, and petty squabbling. Look upon the horror of your misdeeds, humans and elves. Look at the pain you have caused.'
Erollisi Marr speaks, 'You have made a mockery of my gift. You have taken something beautiful and twisted it into endless pain.'
Erollisi Marr speaks, 'I will teach you of endless pain and you will know my scorn. You now bear the curse of Erollisi Marr.'
Erollisi Marr speaks, 'Forevermore will you relive these mistakes, until you recognize the error of your ways. You will be cursed until you understand the value of love.' |
