This is the ninth task in a series. It is assigned at the end of the previous task, "Rally the Town". You have let Fendel know that a raid on on the Elddar encampment for the purpose of rescuing his love and child is imminent. You have been assigned the task 'Save the Child'. Fendel says 'It's settled then! We leave tonight. Soon, Amber and I will be reunited and this horrible nightmare will come to an end. Let's hurry!' Meet Fendel near the Elddar village /loc 240, 2480 You say, 'Hail, Fendel' Your task 'Save the Child' has been updated. Fendel says, 'Thank goodness you're here. We must search these huts until we find Amber! She must be here somewhere! Rescue Amber and the child Go to the mysterious stranger and buy the Karathas faction modifier. Equip it and see Amber (location -335, +1825). If you hail her, she may start attacking, so be prepared for that. Doing so updates the task. You can mem blur her. You have witnessed the curse of the Hills of Shade from the human's point of view. Amber leaps to her feet to greet Fendel and they embrace. Fendel is overjoyed, 'It's been so long! I never thought I'd see you again.' Amber says, 'Welcome back, my love. I want you to meet our daughter.' A shadowy figure emerges unseen and slips behind Amber. The shadowy figure speaks, revealing himself as Valthun, 'You continue to betray my trust by fraternizing with the corruptors. For the good of us all, this must end now.' Amber slumps to the floor, quivering in a pool of her own blood. Fendel collapses to his knees. Fendel screams, 'Gods, no! How could you?!' Erollisi Marr speaks, 'This union, of which I gave my personal blessing, has produced nothing more than bloodshed, anguish, and petty squabbling. Look upon the horror of your misdeeds, humans and elves. Look at the pain you have caused.' Erollisi Marr speaks, 'You have made a mockery of my gift. You have taken something beautiful and twisted it into endless pain.' Erollisi Marr speaks, 'I will teach you of endless pain and you will know my scorn. You now bear the curse of Erollisi Marr.' Erollisi Marr speaks, 'Forevermore will you relive these mistakes, until you recognize the error of your ways. You will be cursed until you understand the value of love.' LilnecroFD got it spot on, this quest needs a rewrite. Amber is in the tallest building, go straight east then straight south, to the east side of the Kirathas camp.

Almost everything about this write-up is wrong.
1) buy blackwater faction mask, equip it
2) kill the mulch near fendel (he is right near the raiders in the far NorthWEST corner)
3) hail fendel
4) lead him to valthun's hut (shoud be marked on your map)
Dont invis, he will stop following if you do.
You should be able to lead him to the hut without agroing anything if you're smart about it, but if just kill anything that does agrro otw
Script will start and reward is given as soon as Fendel walks in the hut, regardless of whether Amber is there or not

issues people may have is fendel follows you and if you go invis while hes following he stops and wont continue following even if you uninvis. if this happens you need to kill him wait about 2mins for him to spawn again, hail him and have him follow you all the way to amber in the hut.

Completed today (9 Sep 2013) with 3 characters... no issues at all...
Greetings folks, I am Grebom 90th cleric and Leader of Shield of Loyalty on the Xegony Server. As of the beginning of August of 2011 this quest is bugged. When you talk to Fendel near the Korathis Village, he will not follow you even if you dont invis, IVU or kill him to respawn. I have included my bug report to SOE however, for those that dont want to wait that long here is a way to work around it. Before you get started, there is a mulch that could be in your way that is close to Fendel you will want to kill it before you start with him. After you kill it, Talk to Fendel to get the portion in the quest started. After you talk to him, you cannot aggro him until after you invis or IVU yourself. Invis or IVU yourself, this makes him aggroable. If you have no spell to memory wipe the aggro make sure you have someone with you that has that spell. Now use anything to aggro him ( attack, use arrows, spell, etc ) but do not kill him. Let him follow you hug the right wall as you go around the village, keep doing this till you are on a hill behind the building Amber is in. Go up to the building, hug the right wall to avoid aggros with other villagers when inside stay at the corner accross from Amber. If you get too close to Amber, she and her father will attack you and you do not get the end result of the quest. When Fendel comes in and attacks you, memory wipe him. When his memory wipes, the event will normally start out and you get the end result of the quest. It is also helpfull to wear the Eyes of Blackwater both Fendel and Amber are both warmly on this faction.

The bug has been fixed, earlier i killed amber by accident so i re-got the quest and worked just like it is supposed to.

In summary because that's a huge block of text:
Kill the shrub next to Fenlen at the South West of the zone to prevent issues
Cast invis on yourself
Fenlen agros
Let Fenlen follow you to the south keeping wall on right. Let Fenlen go inside of the building with Amber.
Drop agro, let quest finish. (I'm a monk so I just stayed feign death)
I can confirm the quest is still bugged and the work-around listed above works exactly as described.

I did this quest last night and I have to point out that buying the Karathas faction mask is a big mistake as Amber and Fendel will attack you and they will not go through their script cause they are attacking you. Just equip your Blackwater mask and DO NOT invis or ivu. If you have to, clear to the house with Valthun in the Karathas village but you can go to the east side of the house and move around the outside of the house without aggroing anything. Amber is in the back of that building and cons warmly if you have the blackwater mask on.

Worked like a charm. I did kill the bush before I started. Never used invis or had to fight a thing. Now the question is why did I want a Lantern of Wisps????

For this quest, use the Blackwater Mask. If you wear the other mask, both Amber and Fendel will attack you at the end.
While Invis, hail Fendel. Take him towards the mysterious stranger. Circle south to Valthun's building. If careful, you should be able to avoid wandering spooks, Quest will play out easily.
If you Invis or IVU while Fendel is following, he will stop and not refollow. kill him and he'll respawn; you can start over. If he stalls at his start positon, you can pull him without the others assisting.

fendel, the one needed here- is located with the blackwater raiders north of the kirathas village.
he followed me into the building and the quest updated. i needed to do nothing more, and it was easy, no clearing needed at all.

Use the blackwater mask (both fendel and amber will be warmly to this one). Hail fendel, and walk slowly to amber's room. If he loses you he will reset his position, but will now be agroable. You can now pull him, drag him to her room, root him, lose agro (I used a wisp), and then he updates himself.

When I was doing this quest, he stopped following me after I got summoned while clearing. I about tore my hair out, until we decided to kill Fendel just for kicks. We found out that if you kill him, he resets, and you can hail him again and he'll follow you. I didn't test to see if this worked after zoning, but it did work after accidently agroing him, invising, and getting summoned for sure.
When I led him to Amber's house, Valthun and here were non-agro with no invis and the Blackwater mask on. Clear just enough to get him to the door before you have him follow you. Start from the east side and clear just around Valthun's house. After I figured all this out, all there was left to do was walk him around and into the house. I didn't have to hail Amber, it automatically updated with Fendel entered the house.

I know how frustrating this can be but the development team is working on fixing numerous bugs in the game and a patch will be released sometime in the future. I am not authorized to complete this quest for you at this time, but feel free to submit a "/bug" report and post your concerns on the EverQuest forums. If you need help with anything else in the future, please do not hesitate to submit or reply to this petition. We will be happy to help you.

Has anyone ever won this who had to zone? I hailed village Fendel, was told to meet him near the Elves. Hailed the Fendel outside the Elven village and found Amber in the building near her father. She ignored me, so I tried removing my Blackwater mask. She ran after me along with half of the zone, so I left.
When I came back I tried hailing both Fendels. The one in the village tells me to meet him. The one outside tells me that he can't talk, he has a child to save. Amber isn't in her house but outside, and ignores me.
I tried moving between all of them invisible and visible with the same results.
What do you do if you end up needing to zone during this task to get it to reset? I would hate to remove it and start with number one again, but it's looking like I may have to.

Guildmember just did this and i can confirm that the blackwater mask is the one you need to wear to not get attacked. i had kirathas mask on and got attacked.
if we hail fendel on the secound spot at the wall nothing is update

DO NOT buy the Kirathas faction modifier (Eyes of Kirathas). Fendel WILL attack you.
