Noxhil V`Sek may be found at the top of the Lodge of the Dead at location 1300, -1250 in Neriak Third Gate.

After finishing the Fire Beetle Eyes quest:

Noxhil V`Sek says 'Fantastic work, my child! We shall store these for further experiments. Take this as extra payment for a fine job. You have done so well I believe you can assist in obtaining two [other components].'

You say, 'what other components?'

Noxhil V`Sek says, 'Take this chest. This one must be filled with [Kerra Isle beetle] eyes. When you finish filling the chest, be sure to return to me with a [wooly mammoth] tusk also. Be quick about it and I just may reward you with something special.'

Receive: Empty Chest

You say, 'Kerra Isle beetle'

Noxhil V`Sek says, 'The shipping route between Qeynos and Erudin includes a stop on an island filled with friendly catpeople. Also on this isle is the Kerra Isle beetle. It is indigenous to Kerra Isle and the catpeople are very protective of them.'

You say, 'wooly mammoth'

Noxhil V`Sek says, 'I hear that wooly mammoths can be found in the peaks of Everfrost. They are fierce beasts. I would hate to annoy one.'

Combine 4 Kerra Isle Beetle Eye in the Empty Chest to create Beetle Eye Chest

Hand Noxhil the Beetle Eye Chest and a Mammoth Tusk

Noxhil V`Sek says, 'I was expecting a mammoth tusk and the combined beetle eye box!'
Noxhil V`Sek says, 'Excellent work, young one! You are sure to be an asset to our faction. Let us see if we can help you on your journey to power. I believe this can be of assistance to a young necromancer of the Dead.'

First off buying the tusk is insane. 26pp for a 1gp spell? Pass. Also I received Spell: Convoke Shadow so the reward is probably a random spell. This quest isn't worth the effort, time, or plat. And let's not mention the agro radius on that damn kitty island.

insanely easy

And here's why -

At the everfrost adventurer's camp, lots of things are killed regularly simply because they aggro on PCs waiting for groups and obtaining adventures. Getting a mammoth tusks here is easy, as is getting anything that drops off the spiders or the ice goblins. It's easy to get there too because of the magi who can port you in and out.

So go for it and get some nice spells.

I did this quest when I was low lvl. Ok, a few bored high-lvl folks helped me out a bit, but I actually went all the way from Neriak to Qeynos and EverFrost (and died plenty to prove it), but I did it in the end, and I got my reward.

To all those people complaining that the reward for this one is crap, I think you're kind of missing the point. The reward is less the spell you get (whatever level it is), but more the fact that after it you're worthy to help The Dead, and there are many more quests you can do once you reach that standing.

So don't whinge, just do it! ;)

OMG, if you could only hear yourself... what a hypocrite!

Before you go criticizing EQ's problems learn to spell and type english... sheesh
you have more spelling, grammar errors, and lazy typing in EVERY SENTENCE than EQ has in each zone.

i tried to sell the mammoth tusk, (called tundra mammoth tusk)and the wooley mammoth horn to a vender in north ro(juni sandfisher). She said that it was worth absolutely nothing, for both items. No one seems to be interested in buying these items, i cant sell them to vendors, so i guess i'll destroy them.

I'm sorry, but killing a mammoth in Permafrost is quite a chore even for a level 24 necro. A full party of level 12s might be able to do it if there were no casters except clerics in their group. No, wait. Those mammoths gore ya for about 56 hit points and sometimes double attack.

There's just no sane reason to do this quest if reward is your goal.

I have never seen a Wooly Mammoth in Permafrost. I have seen Ice Gaints, Bears, Wolfs and even a freaking Dragon, but I aint never seen an elephant fly by.

I think you mean in Everfrost Peaks, and at lvl 24 I was solooing them for great Exp.

This has got to be one of the most absurd quests I have yet to run into in the game. I had been faithfully levelling my ShadowKnight in hopes of one day seeing the completion of this quest - what a let down. And I thought that the Sir Lindeal quest was terrible!!

Waste of time

This is about one of the biggest time wasters in EQ. If there was a quest that had a link to this one it may of been better depending on the prize, but think about traveling around the world just to recieve something you can buy at the local Necromancer guild. This is just not even worth doing, I just collect the fire beetle eyes to keep a good supply of drink now.
Kind of a up date

why lvl 12
# Jun 09 2001 at 11:04 AM Rating: Default
Why get a lvl 12 spell when u need to be around lvl 20+ to kill the mammoths...sounds like a dumb quest
mammoth tusks
# Apr 15 2001 at 4:13 PM Rating: Default
dont mammoth tusks sell to vendors for like 9pp? why waste that much money on a spell that costs like 5? waste o'effort
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 30 2000 at 8:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This quest absorbed a ludicrous amount of my time and effort. Mammoths (yes, it HAS been changed) are around level 25, and the Kerra Isle eyes are insanely dangerous, since you often can't see a cat sneaking up around you or the beetle. All that for a spell that costs a few plat? And no real xp, either. Pbbbt to Verant for not making the quest one that pays in proportion to the difficulty.

I agree in a way the quest description says that a level 1 can complete it . You need to get to Qyenos hills from Neriak . At level 1 this is nearly impossible unless you had a kind wizard that teleported you and then bound you in Qyenos . You need to be a minimum level of 8 so you can travel safely with Gather Shadows , better at level 12 so then you can bind yourself at various places. Also there are no vendors that will sell food and water to a dark elf and so then you have to travel to Lake Rathtear and buy some at the Ogres camp. In all by the time you have done this quest you would of most likely got all of the level 12 spells and forgotten about it.

Hi All..

When you hail the Women down in the shop where you can buy the Necro Spells, The women in the middle, she is the one selling more Stuff then spells, when you Hail her then answer her with the [word] in the prantecies, then she allways told me I am not ready to serve the death yet... I never cared about till I read this Quest... now I will try it out myself!

Have fun

This was part of the "Ring of the Dead" quest until it was taken out because it was too powerful.

The reward was for completing the Thex Mallet quest. You would get either the Reaper or the Ring of the Dead. The Ring of the Dead was an item with a single charge of bind affinity. This allowed melee binding. Once used up, you could give her the discharged ring and she would recharge it for you.

Figures. Guess they wanted to make sure melees and hybrids had to beg or pay casters to bind them, and not let them bind anywhere else but in cities. Basically, this is one of the biggest imbalances in the game, that biases the game towards int and wis casters.

They fixed this on the Firona Vie server, kind of. On that sever, casters can only bind themselves in cities, or in the places that allow melee binding. Instead of making it better for the melees, they made it worse for the casters, got to love that kind of thinking.

Sure, but the item was only usable by Dark Elf Necromancers and Shadow Knights. How imbalancing an item could that possibly have been? It sounds to me as though it was removed because of someone whining.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 3:41 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.
