This group mission is the fifth in a series of five. It follows the group task 'The Departed' and begins with Maria Starforge in the Loping Plains Fang Breakers camp near the zone-in from the Steamfont Mountains.

At the end of the previous task:

As you recount the events inside the temple Maria's eyes gleam with hope. What!? The temple still stands and remains consecrated ground of Tunare? Falstaff must be a powerful paladin indeed to have held back the power of the curse for so long. We must help him in whatever way we can. I will dispatch a messenger to Felwithe immediately to inform them. We must learn more of these crystals that Falstaff mentioned. Perhaps the slaves in the [mines] have some first hand knowledge of these crystals.

You say, 'What about the mines?'

Maria Starforge says 'It seems that the orcs are pulling something from the ancient mines that's very important. We haven't been able to figure out exactly what it is yet. Which is where you come in. We need you to explore the mines and free some of the slaves there. Some of them must know something about what the orcs are mining. I'm counting on you _____.'

    You say, 'Hail, Maria Starforge'

Maria Starforge says 'You have been a great help _____. The spirits of Kor`therin owe you much. Larquin has told me he has several important assignments for you when you're ready.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Dark Crystals'.

Maria Starforge has asked you to explore the mines and find out what the orcs are digging up.

Enter Bloodmoon Keep 0/1 (Loping Plains)

Loot 5 Bloodmoon Shackle Keys 0/5 (Bloodmoon Keep)

These drop from Bloodmoon slavers and jailors.

Free 5 Miners 0/5 (Bloodmoon Keep)

Give one of the keys to any of the gnome miners (will not work with a dwarf miner).

a gnome miner says 'Get out while you still can you fool! Run!'

a gnome miner grabs you in a heartfelt embrace and then sprints for the mine's exit.

    a gnome miner says 'Freedom!!!'

a gnome miner says 'Oh thank you! You've saved me from these horrible wereorcs. They're making us mine day and night! At first it was for ore to make weapons and armor, but lately they've been more interested in these crystals. I have no idea why.'

a gnome miner says 'Yes they just tell us to mine the crystals. They don't seem interested in any of the other ores we've seen. I snuck a few of them from the last load I delivered. Take them, maybe you can make some sense of what they're doing with them. You look like you might be just crazy enough to stir up this hornet's nest. The orcs keep a cache of explosives in one of the caverns nearby. If you can destroy it it will slow down the mining considerably.'

    Receive a "Bloodmoon Crystal Sample".

Loot 1 Bloodmoon Torch 0/1 (Bloodmoon Keep)

This drops from "a Bloodmoon engineer", who spawns in the west room when the last key is handed in.

Light the explosives 0/1 (Bloodmoon Keep)

The explosives cache is a collection of barrels close to where the enginer was standing. Light it by right-clicking the torch. Trying to fight or /open the cache will cause it to explode, likely killing you.

Destroy the explosives cache 0/1 (Bloodmoon Keep)

Task Window Says: Prevent the orcs from defusing the explosives!

The fuse begins to burn ------------------x
    The fuse burns shorter ---------------x
    The fuse burns shorter -----------x

You'll get two adds each time an emote goes off (about every 45-60 seconds for a total of six emotes). Fight off incoming adds while the explosives slowly burn down.

NOTE: When the explosive goes off, it sets off an AE in the room, so you'll probably want to be outside the room when it happens. You'll see this emote as it occurs:

The caverns are rocked by a massive explosion!

Deliver 1 Bloodmoon Crystal Samples to Maria Starforge 0/1 (Bloodmoon Keep)

Task Window Says: Return the crystals and the news of the chaos you've caused to Maria Starforge.

Maria chuckles as you recount the destruction of the orcish supplies. "Well done. That will certainly slow down their mining operation inside the keep. Unfortunately we have another problem. The orcs have planned something [terrible] tonight, and they must be stopped!"

This is the lead-in to the "Fanged Moon" raid.

If your having (faction) issues turning in keys to miners and can fd, open the give window, fd, then complete give.

Give, invis, give does not seem to work.

Upon turn in to each gnome miner:

#1: a gnome miner says "Get out while you still can fool! Run!"

#2: a gnome miner grabs you in a heartfelt embrace and then sprints for the mine's exit.

#3: a gnome miner says "Freedom!!!"

#4: a gnome miner says "Oh thank you! You've saved me from these horrible wereorcs. They're making us mine day and night! At first it was for ore to make weapons and armor, but lately they've been more interested in these crystals. I have no idea why."

#5: a gnome miner says "Yes they tell us to mine the crystals. If you can destroy it it will slow down the mining considerably."

You recieve Bloodmoon Crystal Samples in your inventory upon hailing the fifth gnome miner.

Other miners just run off when you free them. Also, the gnomes give a faction hit to Beta Nuetral when you turn in the keys heh.

There are 2 adds each emote, roughly every 45-60 seconds, and about 6 or so emotes total.

Clear to the north pit area, looting keys as you go. When you get to the pit, give keys to miners to free them and update task for that stage. Mob who has the torch has a graphic of the torch in its hand so isn't too hard to figure out which one it is. Ignite the fuse with the torch on the pile of barrels in the room West of the pit. Each tick the fuse burns down = 2 adds... so be sure you've killed everything before igniting the fuse. The adds ARE mezzable, and will attempt to defuse the fuse... so fight them and/or mez them, although they come in pretty quickly each tick of the fuse so mezzing that many can be difficult. Once the fuse has burned up the weapons cache goes BOOM, and you can turn in the item you previously looted from a mob that was a triggered spawn based on looting the torch, IIRC. The task stages that Uliadyeno listed is not complete, there was 1 other stage iirc. Will post the unknown info when I can.

gnomes are the only ones who will accept the keys, also seems taht some of the instances are bugged and will only spanwn 4 gnomes so good to check with a rogue so you don't clear the entire zone but are still unable to finish task like we did torch dropped for bloodmoon engineer for us as well

Either this was fixed or it was never bugged to begin with - you must not be kos to the turnin race (though you can get around this with fd or sneak).

When I did this torch was dropped by a Bloodmoon engineer. He spawned in room west of main mine pit, after the 5 miners were freed.

You get an emote that shows this.

[Mon Dec 03 17:48:42 2007] Your task 'The Dark Crystals' has been updated.
[Mon Dec 03 17:48:55 2007] The fuse begins to burn ------------------x
[Mon Dec 03 17:49:45 2007] The fuse burns shorter ---------------x
[Mon Dec 03 17:50:45 2007] The fuse burns shorter -----------x

    Unusually imaginative for SOE. :)

Ya, It seems the torch can drop from almost any of the mobs in there. DONT try and /open or kill the explosives, you'll only die.

    Let them burn away.
