This is the final encounter in the Asylum of Anguish raid expedition. Overlord Mata Muram becomes active once Arch Magus Vangl is dead.

Overlord Mata Muram cons KOS but will not attack until triggered. It would be a good idea to have either an FD'r or your main tank to speak with him.

You say, 'Hail, Overlord Mata Muram'

Overlord Mata Muram says 'So. You are the mighty god killers. I am not surprised you managed to make it this far. I did expect there to be more of you, do you really think so little of me? I have destroyed [worlds] where animals roam with power that would cause your gods to tremble.'

You say, 'Worlds...?'

Overlord Mata Muram says 'You would have made fine additions to my army, were you not so willful. Prepare yourself for power beyond your greatest nightmares.'

Two Coerced Lieutenants spawn on either side of the room. They hit for ~3,500 and are enchanter-charmable. They respawn if killed.

If you intend on getting on Mata Muram's hatelist, you should have a Mirrored Mask equipped. If you do not have a Mirrored Mask on you, you should consider remaining off Overlord Mata Muram's hatelist -- more on this in a moment.

Mata Muram hits for ~7,000; single-target rampages; enrages; casts the following spells; and has a number of tricks up his sleeve.

Gaze of Anguish NPC Hatelist 0', Cold (-475)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 4000
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 300 per tick
3: Decrease Mana by 250 per tick
4: Increase Disease Counter by 30

Relinquish Spirit NPC Hatelist 0', Chromatic (-375)
1: Decrease Spell Haste by 100%
2: Decrease ATK by 300
3: Decrease Stats by 100
4: Increase Curse Counter by 24
5: Limit: Combat Skills Not Allowed

Torment of Body NPC Hatelist 0', Prismatic (-375)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 3000
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 300 per tick
3: Decrease Accuracy by 25%
4: Decrease Effective Casting Level by 100
5: Increase Curse Counter by 24

Void of Suppression NPC Hatelist 0', Prismatic (-325)
2: Silence
3: Increase Disease Counter by 24

Wail of Anguish NPC Hatelist 0', Disease (-475)
2: Stun(10.00 sec)

In addition to those spells, he emotes on random players (hatelist-based). The targetted player will see:

You feel a gaze of deadly power focusing on you.

...While the rest of the raid will see:

Mata Muram fixes his gaze on one of your companions.

The targetted player must click his/her Mirrored Mask within a few seconds.

Overlord Mata Muram fixes his gaze on _____.

Mata Muram grows weak as he is afflicted with his own magic.

Mata Muram roars in anger,'You dare use my own magic against me!'

Mata Muram will stop attacking for a moment and reset aggro. Shortly after, he will resume attacking.

Mata Muram shakes off the effects of his affliction.

If the targetted player fails to click the mask on time, he/she will be hit with "Mata Muram's Gaze" and Mata Muram will increase in strength.

Mata Muram's Gaze Single Target, Magic (-600)
1: Decrease Spell Haste by 90%
2: Decrease Attack Speed by 90%
3: Decrease Stats by 300
4: Decrease HP when cast by 4000
5: Limit: Combat Skills Not Allowed

Throughout the event, Frenzied Lashers will spawn and swarm the raid. Where they spawn depends on an emote. Random players will see this:

You hear a strange buzzing around your head, and feel as though something is creeping toward you.

...While the rest of the raid sees this:

You hear a buzzing in the distance.

The ukuns spawn four at a time, hit for ~1000, and have very few hitpoints.

Once Overlord Mata Muram hits ~20%, he will stop attacking. Riftseekers will spawn in the room:

Vyishe shouts, 'Come! They have weakened him. Now is our chance to strike.'

Tendrils of energy shoot from the fingertips of the Riftseekers, turning Mata Muram's magic inward.

Anishy shouts, 'Now fools. Strike while we hold him, we cannot hold this seal for long.'

Mata Muram breaks free of his bonds, killing the Riftseekers with the magic. 'You dare betray me! When I am done with them I shall see that all of your kind meet the same fate.'

The world shifts around you as the riftseeker's are consumed by their magic.

Your raid is ported to Ture's chamber. You can take your time and med back up here. Mata Muram will have stripped all of his debuffs and will essentially be reset, except for the fact he's at whatever health you left him.

After clicking on the portover again, you must re-engage him quickly otherwise the event may reset entirely.

Continue fighting Mata Muram (all the same tricks as earlier) until he dies.

Your faction standing with Overlord Mata Muram could not possibly get any worse.
Your faction standing with Riftseekers could not possibly get any better.
Your faction standing with Children of Dranik could not possibly get any better.
Your faction standing with Dranik Loyalists could not possibly get any better.
You gained raid experience!

The walls of Anguish tremble, you can feel the world shaking your bones. For a brief moment you think you see a smile flash across Mata Muram's face, and as the last breath escapes his lungs you hear a faint voice, "There are worlds other than these..."

Once dead, he drops two Ancient Muramite Runes, a Seal: Mastery of All (backflag), a Globe of Discordant Energy (Epic 2.0), one armor-piece item (from first list), and two items (from second list).

Patorav's Amulet
Jayruk's Vest

Chains of Anguish
Earring of Dragonkin
Girplan Hammer of Carnage
Hammer of Rancorous Thoughts
Necklace of the Steadfast Spirit
Plagueborn Cape
Ring of Persecution
Shroud of Eternal Agony
Symbol of the Overlord

Do NOT bring people without a mask

There was a rumour going around that if a player did not have a mask looted, they would not get the gaze cast upon them as long as enough other people within the raid had masks. This was not true for us tonight, the first cast was on an alt that had not looted a mask.

Did all of Anguish yesterday to get orbs for a bunch of bots. One group of 105's and my 115 cleric. Burned him down so fast that he didn't port us out to Tures room. Did him about 2 weeks earlier when they were in there 80's and got ported out at 4%. It seems his porting can be bypassed with enough dps. Not that it matters really, just an oddity.
Frenzied Lashers at zone-in

Did this again for fun and left 4 toons of the group at the zone-in. During this event the Frenzied Lashers all spawned at the zone-in! The Coerced Lieutenants never aggro'd! I guess engaging the Lashers close to OOM triggers their aggro. This is an oddity and not really a viable strategy for any force that needs combined firepower to down OMM, but it might be worth a shot if a raid could leave an aoe-capable group at the zone to deal with the Lashers as they spawn.

Did the whole Anguish raid today solo, took 2 hours. This isn't a bragging post at all since tons of players have solo'd the raid at 105. Just posting some comments for benefit of others, such as they are. The key for me was using damage shields and every mana-free AA and clicky I had. Mana was my only problem with some of these bosses, I was never even close to being in danger of dying. I finished Overlord with no mana but that was because I didn't bother to med up when he ported me out at his 20% HPs. I had 20% mana and didn't want to chance something odd happening as per some of the earlier posts.

Note I was ported out to Ture's room at 20%, NOT 30% as noted above.

AOE DD to clear the Frenzied Lashers is very helpful.

The only debuffs I bothered to clear, using RGC AA or clicky, was on the Overlord since SILENCE is a PITA at any level.

Having done Anguish several times in full 54-man or so raids way back in the day it was a lot of fun to see it this way since I actually have a much better understanding of the mechanics and requirements of the zone. Considering each of these bosses, from Keldovan on, was "a bit" of a challenge to solo, I have to give credit to the first guilds to tackle this zone since these mobs have a LOT of HPs and do a lot of damage.

Something is wrong with OMM today. I use it to twink my lower levels and did hiim often enough. This time he warped us out of the room at about 17% for 7 times then we gave up. We had enough DPS with all 105er, got all cured without a single spell going off, it was absolutely easy going, only that at 17% we got ported out.

This event sucks now... any changes which did something new to the event? Perhaps his Lieutnants got a duty now?
Help appreciated.

I know the EQ devs worked on this event recently so I would bet this is a side effect.

Suffix title reward

As of yesterday's patch, you're now granted a suffix title when you defeat Overload Mata Muram in this event.

The suffix-title is ", Stormer of Anguish" (with a comma and space at the beginning).

There is also a separate title granted if your raid is the first to do it on the server, as long as nobody on the server had ever defeated OMM before the patch went live.

Quote from patch notes:

Quote:
- Overlord Mata Muram (Raid) - Overlord Mata Muram now grants a title upon his defeat. He will also grant a server-first title on those servers where he has not yet been defeated.

5 toons vs MM
# Dec 27 2008 at 4:07 AM Rating: Decent
I have been 1 grouping Anguish with my wife she plays 3 toons (Druid/Bard/Sk) I play 2 toons War/Cleric we ussualy clear up to AM/MM and stop no real issue for while now since the new level cap and few gear upgrades and getting alts to par decided to take on AM yesterday took him out our first shot said for laughs we would try MM we had no masks so.

Well we end'd up taking him to 90% pretty fast but the rounds he was ramp'd for was owning me my War is about 38k hp 4.5k a/c unbuff'd with buffs i had i was around 47k my cleric sk gear is lacking but my bard/druid are pretty well off we end'd up calling it a night after we wiped to him at about 85%.

Went back tonight picked up mask's on all our guys killed fake AM pulled MM and owned his *** down to 30% i used a D rez on my cleric during fight to give my cleric FM i did that about when MM was at 55% we had the bard taking ramp most the time she has raid gear around 22k unbuff'd she never really got below 60% the war had few low moments but nothing to bad at all my cleric only has about 18k mana unbuff'd and i was doing most of the healing of war on him. But with us not missing mask clicks he never ramp'd and well he is very easy to tank.

We were excited after what we just did and had to clear back b/c we didnt clear down to ture's room b/c we had cleared him yesterday so we had some trash to clear and end'd up actually wiping partialy b/c of a runner long story short i clicked the red portal got us all back up he was at 29% i need'd to go to restroom i had just sat and fought MM for almost an hour but felt like alot longer and new this last 30% was gonna be forever get back to find he had reset to 100% health and it was 5 am its 6 am now hehe

Just figure id post here for sheer fact i would have never ever in my wildest dreams had thought its possible to do this mob with 2 people boxing 5 toons....when my guild which was first guild on our server to beat MM back in day when it was the endgame content i would have laughed so hard had you said youd be killing this guy with 5 people in the future.

It was alot of fun and plan on going back tonight to finish him off!

Revised strat

Since writing the previous strat, I've risen up the ranks in my raiding group and I'm now the main raid leader. On a recruitment open raid last week, we successfully killed OMM with an open raid of 28 raiders, ranging from level 75 and 85, including one very good war tank of approx 5k ac / 30k hp. Given the upgrades in levels/AAs/equip etc, the strats needed an update. Here is my revised OMM strat:

1. Tell everyone NOT to equip or use their masks. This makes the fight much faster and simpler, but requires OMM be buff stripped later on. It also requires a tank able to survive an attack round of the powered up OMM

2. Instruct the raiders to ignore the two Coerced Lieutenants.

3. Have the MT tank OMM in the doorway as per normal. Tell everyone to very tightly bunch around the door and OMM. Ukuns spawn during the encounter on top of random raiders. Keeping the raid tightly bunched makes dealing with them far easier, and it also prevents accidentally adding the Coerced Lieutenants.

4. Have the rangers create an audio trigger for "body shrivels" - the message given after a mask click is missed and OMM receieves the buff Mata Muram's Gaze Recourse. When the sound triggers, immediately cast Nature's Entropy (Monks also get clickies to do the same, E.g. Mist-Blessed Leather Tunic) to remove it.

5. Typically a few moments after this the Frenzied Lashers (ukuns) are due to spawn. Have one or more AE agroer (wars or SKs are best) and one or more AE DPSer (rangers and wizzies work well) create audio triggers for "Frenzied Lashers". Instruct them to use a very brief audio sound. When done correctly, they will hear a sound similar to popcorn popping as the Frenzied Lashers spawn and begin hitting raiders. The tank(s) must AE agro asap followed by the AE'er(s) putting them to a quick death.

6. Everyone must have an audio trigger for the Mark of Death emote "you feel a gaze". This spell hits precisely 10 raiders per cast (though some will resist it) so every group must have a curer, and everyone who is unable to cure themselves must announce their need for a cure in group asap.

7. At 30% HP, the fight will pause for about 30 seconds, while some scripted storyline takes place. Immediately hold all battle rezzes, and instruct everyone in the raid to /corpsedrag any dead group members. After the 30 seconds elapses, everyone is ported to Ture's room, along with any dragged corpses.

8. Instruct everyone to run to warden Hanvar's room to rez and rebuff. This room is good as it is close enough to OMM to call for a charge, but far enough away that one stray raider won't mistakenly click back in to OMM's area and trigger the continuation of the encounter.

9. After an unknown amount of time the event naturally resets. Ths time is less than 15 minutes, but more than 4 minutes. The safest approach is to get everyone rezzed, the MT fully buffed, and critical buffs such as haste and crack passed around. Once this is done, call everyone to charge back to OMM's room.

10. Once the MT and healers are in place, have the MT retag OMM and continue the event. Instruct those with critically low endurance and mana bars to pause outside the room and med for a moment longer. I only gave this option to a few key clerics, but you can include more raiders so long as enough are left with OMM. Be warned, the ukuns will happily walk through the portal.

11. Continue as before and kill OMM.

Note: I suspect that this strat could be improved by keeping the healers in the room with the red emblem, and healing the raid through the door. I have yet to test it, but the AEs may then miss the healers. They will need a bodyguard tank such as an SK to handle the ukuns however.

Just to clarify. The emote for "Mark of Death" is NOT "You feel a gaze". It is "You have been marked for death".

"You feel a gaze" is emoted to you when you would normally click your mask. Around 10 seconds after (if you do not click) you will be hit with the spell Mata Muram's Gaze and OMM will powerup with its recourse.

Hope that saves some other people from wiping like we did to the DT...

When you see the emote about a gaze of deadly power, you've got precisely 10 seconds before the Mata Muram's Gaze spell goes off. At least, that's what my logs show for the two times he did it before we wiped on our first attempt. :-)

And speaking of timing, the batches of four little ukuns seemed to show up about once a minute, regardless of whether we'd reflected his gaze yet. Looks like they might appear about 2 ticks after the target gets the 'strange buzzing around your head' emote as a warning, so if they're quick they can call for someone to be ready to peel off the adds.

1. Pull the two Lieutenants one at a time. Tash them, entrap them, root or charm them.
2. Have the RT tag OMM, and let the MT corner OMM in the doorway you enter.
3. Move the petted/rooted Lieutenants away from the fight, but close enough for heals etc. Charmed Lieutenants are good DPS, but will kill PCs on a break faster than on OMM!
4. Once in a while OMM will cast Mark of Death on 10 individuals at once. It has 14 disease counters, and will death touch the recipitent in 15 seconds unless cured, regardless of the 1 min timer it is meant to have.
5. Everyone needs to have an audio trigger for the phrase "you feel a gaze". Likewise Everyone needs to be wearing a mirrored mask. When the trigger goes off, that individual will need to click their mask.
6. On a successful click, OMM will attempt to walk back to his podium. By keeping DPS on him he often stops before making it all the way back and can be moved back to the wall you were fighting him on. Nothing negative happens if he does reach the podium, it's just lost DPS-time.
7. A few moments after OMM reaches the podium (or around the time he would have done so, were he not successful) precisely 5 tiny ukuns will spawn. They are supposed to spawn next to random PCs of their choosing, however they often spawn stacked up 2 or 3 on top of eachother, so I suspect they have a yet unknown agenda. The ukuns hit low, but can and do wipe clerics. Have anyone who can take the damage do AE slows/taunts/DDs etc. Likewise DPS should assign a key to their 'Cycle through nearest NPC' (in options) and use it to find any other ukuns up that have been missed, given they are small. 5 more ukuns spawn again after a few more minutes, possible at the halfway point of OMM making another attempt to return to his podium. You will probably kill around 80-120 ukuns before OMM reaches his 30% stage.
8. We have had 'a languished convert' spawn during the event; these mobs are only supposed to spawn during the AMV event. If one pops, all DPS needs to get them killed Fast.
8. Besides this, the fight is the same as any other. OMM just has a heck of a lot of HPs. Don't expect to kill OMM until everyone is used to raiding, and anguish-geared.
