This group mission begins with Head Attendant Haestus (click for map image) in the port-in area of Katta Castrum.

    Pre-requisites for Requesting:
    - None

Say "assist" to request the task and "prepared" to zone in.

You say, 'Hail, Head Attendant Haestus'

Head Attendant Haestus says 'Each passing day brings a greater burden to my heart, _____. Here lies the greatest soul in our history and it is trapped in a failing body. While his youth and appearance remain unchanged after centuries, he is not the picture of health he seems. He teeters on the edge of death as he has all this time - ever since that traitor, General Seru, [poisoned] this great leader of the Combine Empire. If you are interested in learning about that fateful day, Historian Divinicus can give you a [history] to read on the subject.'

You say, 'What about its history?'

Head Attendant Haestus says 'Ah, _____, it would take a lifetime of study for you to truly appreciate our great city, but if you are truly interested seek out Historian Divinicus.'

    You say, 'He poisoned him?'

Head Attendant Haestus says 'We have fought these many years to save him from the poison running through his veins, to restore the empire to its greatness and bring all of Norrath together to share its knowledge. We have failed. Our greatest minds and magic... all failed. Now that you and those like you have come, I see a renewal of hope amongst the people. There are those that have worked with people like you from the surface and have discovered new ideas for cures. I have my [doubts] about these possibilities, but few pay attention to my warnings in the face of such hope.'

    You say, 'What doubts?'

Head Attendant Haestus says 'Where the magic of the Combine Empire has failed I find it almost impossible that those of you from the surface would even be able to scratch the surface of the problem. I don't fault your noble efforts, but to hear it told your magic is relatively primitive compared to our own. I fear the false hope you bring will only further crush the spirits of my people when the true folly of them is revealed. However, since I have been commanded to attempt these procedures, I will do my best. This is where you and the rest of you from the surface can truly [assist] us, if you feel you are up to the challenge.'

    You say, 'I will assist'

Head Attendant Haestus says 'Yes, _____, note details an antidote that was never completed, but the two plants you already have found were only a small part of it. I suspect he had hit upon the very same antidote your people helped us discover. This is surprising, perhaps I have misjudged the help we could receive from outside. There is a great magic that must also be used. There is a sphinx, Shelfezmaken, in the Jewel of Atiiki who might help us. She knows my name and if you speak it, she may give us the information we need, but it is always at a cost. Be [prepared] to do her bidding.'

You have been assigned the task 'Gorillas in the Garden!'.

The sunken garden of the sphinx has been invaded by a band of small, but annoying gorillas who have somehow escaped from the pens the sphinx hold them in. The sphinx are insistent that someone from outside their habitat must be responsible and demand the Combine resolve this. Help the sphinx drive them out of the garden. The gorillas are stubborn beasts and will ignore your prod at first. You will need to weaken them physically but be careful not to kill any of them. The sphinx do not wish to have their gorillas destroyed needlessly.

    You say, 'We are prepared'

Head Attendant Haestus says 'Very well _____. Return when you have satisfied Shelfezmaken, should you find a way to do so.'

    LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Jewel of Atiiki.

Speak with Shelfezmaken to learn more about how you can help 0/1 (Jewel of Atiiki)

    You say, 'Hail, Shelfezmaken'

Shelfezmaken says 'Ah, at last you have come. I see the Combine have sent their lackeys to clean up their mess. If you desire our help you must first recapture our escaped prize gorillas that are roaming this garden. Do not kill them but you may have to weaken them before they will be herded towards the Efreeti I have stationed in the garden to capture them. Take this rod and use it with care as you guide the beasts to safety. Return when you are finished and I will give you that which you seek.'

    You receive "Gorilla Wrangler's Staff".

Chase 4 Gorillas from the lower garden 0/4 (Jewel of Atiiki)

Chase 3 Gorillas from the mid garden 0/3 (Jewel of Atiiki)

Chase 3 Gorillas from the upper garden 0/3 (Jewel of Atiiki)

Chase the Gorilla Matriarch from the garden 0/1 (Jewel of Atiiki)

Find "an escaped gorilla", DPS it down to below 20% health. Each hits for a max ~2,200; is stunnable and mezzable; and has ~125,000 hitpoints. Once at 20% or below, click the Gorilla Wrangler's Staff. The gorilla will run off into an efreeti trap and update the task.

an escaped gorilla has been swiped.
an escaped gorilla runs in a random direction!
    an escaped gorilla is captured!

NOTE: Sometimes the gorilla doesn't run in the proper direction. If this happens, click the effect again.

Matriarch Tusdum is found on the bridge just below the top-level waterfall. Repeat the above process on her. She hits for a max ~2,500; is stunnable and mezzable; and has ~160,000 hitpoints.

Return and speak with the Sphinx to receive your reward for a job well down 0/1 (Jewel of Atiiki)

    You say, 'Hail, Shelfezmaken'

Shelfezmaken says 'You have done well. We thank you for your efforts to redeem the Combine in our eyes. At my feet you will find that which you seek.'

A "Blooming Oasis Flower" spawns on the ground. Pick it up, and say "leave" to the sphinx to zone out.

Shelfezmaken says 'If you feel you are finished here _____ you may [leave] at any time.'

You say, 'I wish to leave'

    LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Jewel of Atiiki.

Deliver the Blooming Oasis Flower to Head Attendant Haestus 0/1 (Katta Castrum)

Head Attendant Haestus says 'I did not think it possible but it seems we may be able to complete this antidote. I must say I still have my doubts, but despite my earlier pessimism, it is refreshing to have a new possibility for helping Tsaph. Your help has been invaluable thus far, but wait . . . there is something missing. I recognize the sphinx magic within these blossoms. Intertwined with the healing properties is a hidden and deadly poison that can only be counteracted with very powerful venom reagents. The only creatures that would have venom this potent would be the Shissar. And not just any Shissar! Only those who are in command of others carry this venom through their slithering bodies. They are of significant power. Do you believe you are [capable] of such a quest?'

The gorillas have been driven out and peace restored to the sunken gardens. As you leave the area you faintly hear what sounds like the hiss of a large and angry serpent.

    Rewards:
    Orux (varies)
Faction with Combine Empire Merchants (+25)

Saying "capable" points you in the direction of Tactician Sodut. Head Attendant Haestus doesn't have any other missions.

    You say, 'I am capable'

Head Attendant Haestus says 'If you really believe that you are capable of this quest then seek out Tactician Sodut. He will be able to direct you to the heart of this mystery.'

Clicking at 21% worked in the forst 2 teirs... on 3rd tier it didnt work until further below (that or they resist it at times).

Also -- the gorialls dont always run the right direction for an update. U can click them again and make them run again, if you can find them.

You can hail the sphinx from anywhere and the Flower will appear as a ground spawn near you (looks like a red mushroom).

Tell the SPhinx "Leave" to zone out (you do have to be close for this). Unfortunately, you zone out to Atiiki, not Katta.

Afterwards, he directs you to go see Sodut.

I have been farming this with my druid solo ( of course need 2 others in group to get quest, but they can then leave, they just need to stay in task )

I do this with my 80 druid, its super easy. Here is the easiest trick:

Go to the second level in the garden, north side.

There is one gorilla and one beetle here. you can root them both with Vinelash cascade when they are close ( or use some other root and snare ) I personally find vinelash cascade to be a fantastic spell when charming in tight quarters: as soon as charm breaks, vinelash, and recharm.

Charm the gorilla and have it fight the beetle: when gorilla is almost dead, break charm, and self evac. ( best to separate the gorilla and beetle, also, dont evac if a gorilla is a bout to path up the top of a ramp, if you are the only one in the instanced zone, you will not get credit for that gorilla being trapped. this is a disaster when it comes to the matriarch, and just a pain with other gorillas )

NOW! what to do with this gorilla? Charm him, and use summon pet to port him to the level you need an update! you dont have to fight on every level, i find porting the gorilla up to the north side of the 3rd level, then break charm, smack him with the wrangle stick, and he paths up the third levels ramp, and you get credit for the third level, even though he was from the second level!!!

There is another gorilla on the north side of the second level that you can charm too. just by alternating between these two north side second level gorilla spawns, you can do everything but the matriarch!.

Also: even though when you try to cast glamour of tunare ( mr debuff, level 53 ) on one of the beetles or scarabs, it says that these mobs are not animals, you can still charm them with beasts bewitching!! This is useful to clear mobs. Also, use glamour of tunare on the gorillas: makes the charm last much longer and stick more often.

I snare all mobs with entrap2 to keep them under controll. And at the north side of the second level, there is enough room to kite back and forth: running around mob, with lev, over the ramp up from the bottom level, without getting smacked.

Evac is your friend here, I use it as a sort of ghetto memblur all the time.

OK, so what about the matriarch??

That is tricky, i usually tag her with glamour of tunare, instant aa invis as i run and lead her up the ramp to the desert. This results in tons of adds, but when i get her up the ramp, i can mass root with vinelash, or snare just her, and then run and evac. With practice you can pull her to the desert easy. Might want to snare/root/evac to park the efreeti on the nearby ramp, and other mobs nearby, to make it safer and easier. Up to you.

Once she is in the desert and snared, i will evac ( egress ) to wipe all aggro from the adds, and run back and just kite her down to 20 health. then i smack her with the wrangle stick, dispell magic to take off snare ( can use dispell magic on the other gorillas too if you want to speed things up, and take off snare ) And watch her path back to the trap. If you "finish" her off to the north of the tall obolisk that is north of the great pyramid, she runs a bit and warps right to the trap. Otherwise she warps back to her spawn point and you need to spank her with your stick.

Dont let her path over the top of a temple, she does this if you "finish" her off next to the great pyramid, and she depops and a fresh, full health matriarch then pops at the matriarchs spawn point. grrrrrr

It takes me about 50 min to finish this mission solo as a druid, no xp, but fun and fairly easy.

Key trick: porting the gorillas, that are at low health, to different levels in the garden, by using charm and summon companion ( think its a level 46 spell or around that level ). This suddenly makes the whole thing much much easier.

My group killed the named gorilla Matriarch tonight in error. We waited about an hour, but she did not respawn so we bailed out of the mission. Thankfully, we had started at the top level rather than the bottom so we did not burn too much time on the loss.

Both times that I have started the mission, the Matriarch was up when the instance was generated so there is no need to chase her PH (if one exists) out of the garden in order to spawn her.

It appears that only the first person to hail the Sphinx in step 2 of the mission (or perhaps only group leader?) receives a gorilla prod. Since the gorillas continue to attack until prodded, even when under 20%, and prodding requires about three seconds to "cast," it would be helpful for a relatively thick-skinned character to do the prodding.

Is this really a pathing problem or is it by design that SOE made the gorillas path really weird when clicked? We could not get the matriarch to leave the garden - is there some trick? or just keep clicking and one of the times it will work? This one is weird. Anyone?

Finished this mission today and the matriarch went up the ramp into the trap on the second prod. None of the gorillas that were prodded failed to go up the ramp, but it took several of them three or four pokes to finally go.
    Bit extra info
    # Sep 28 2007 at 10:04 AM Rating: Decent
Have some info people may find useful.

Although level says 75 i'm guessing average is 70+ as we invited a 74 and a 67 into mission at end and both got rewards.

When you get to last stage, go left and stop at bottom of next ramp. Going further will result in effect wearing off gorillas before they hit the exit ramp. Very annoying )

Plus all dealings with sphinx can be done invis. Hail from anywhere to get stave. Same for flower at end, spawn at your feet. Only need to be near him to say leave at the end.
    This was fun!

This was a very fun mission, beating the gorillas into submission and sending them to the catchers, but I absolutely have to agree... this is Classic EQ Pathing(tm). Sometimes we had to herd the gorillas to the ramps.

There is another bug in the system for now. When one person gets the mission, the compass line appears and if you follow it leads you to the non-instanced Atiiki. You must have the Head Attendant send you to the instance, zoning will not work.

A Few things my group and I noticed while attempting this task.

    1. The Efreets see thru invis at the tops of the ramps leading to the next lvl. Althought they see thru invis they did NOT agro us though they coned KOS to us. You can climb up the walls ( better if your lev'ed )to the next lvl to bypass them if you feel that you should.

    2. Once the Gorrillas are below 21% and you have clicked them with the Wranglers Staff they will take off pretty fast. They did NOT agro anything while they were running. There were mobs to include other gorrillas that they ran right beside as they scampered away too. Pulling the gorrillas initially though was a different story. They were social to all the bugs and gorrillas when initially pulled only.

    3. Pathing was the worst I have ever seen. When you clicked on the gorrillas with the Staff they would sometimes run off and keep running around the lvl that they were on origionally and your task would not update. At times I would have to follow them around the area invised and wait for them to stop running to click on them again when the coast was clear. Did this even on the Named at the end 3 times before she ran off and finally got the update.

    4. The Escaped Gorrillas hit me ( Wizzy defense AA's maxed with 2k AC for around 800-1.6k ) and the Matriarch ( named at the end ) hitting for about 1.8-2k a pop. NONE of the mobs in this instanced summon. My entire group died on the last named and Exodus was already used from a train earlier in the task. I kited the last named to 18% from 80% then clicked and that was all she wrote ( after the 3rd click that is ).

    5. All the mobs were slowable, and mezable. I can not confirm if the Named at the end is mezable though, but all other mobs were. I know ALL mobs were snarable / rootable. Necro was pulling with snare and I was rooting at times when the Chanter was busy mezzing. Named didn't Enrage or Flurry our tank either. just a strait up Warrior mobs that hits hard and fast, but not much harder than any other mob in the zone. She also coned Red to me lvl 75 so I am assuming around lvl 78 or 79. Escaped Gorrillas were Yellow cons so about 76-77 I think.

    6. Gorrillas can be killed for exp and they respawn VERY fast. I never timed it, but it was around 5 mins for the respawn. The bugs do respawn, but at a MUCH longer timer. I am thinking around 20 mins+. Never killed the Named so not sure what the exact respawn timer was on her, but she was already up when we zoned in.

All in all it could have been worse and I think that we will be going back to perform this task more as we become more proficient at it. I hope this info helps all that try it. Just beware of the pathing at ALL times!!

I tried to make killing the 4 gorrillas at the first level an exp. camp. This does not work. After I killed the gorrilla three times (not sure, could have been 4), the mission ended and I got ported out.

The two static effreti's that are at the top of each level are the ones that are helping you by capturing the gorrilla's you chase up to them. Those will not attack you, I fight by them when I do the second level all the time. Up till the third level, you don't have to worry about KoS effreti's, but once on the third level, you'll get a roaming effretti that goes up and down each ramp. This cons and is KoS and will respawn. The whole zone of Atikkii is there btw, with mobs all over it and they do respawn. Although they made just about every effretti mob see invis and many see SoS. So if you want an instance full of mobs to yorself to grind exp, get out of the garden and kill effretiis, not gorrillas. Since after so many gorrilla kills (3 or 4) the mission ends.

I box this mission. It was 150 orums on my server and after I got it down on how to do it, I was finishing it in about an hour. At first I was dotting the gorrillas and using pets. But this almost always got the gorrillas well below 20% before i stopped all attacks. Since you should not snare them, because snaring them would make it a bit harder to chase to the effretiis to capture, they would turn and run before I could click the whack stick on them. This makes them still KoS, so it lead to bad things like trains coming back to me.

This is what I do. I don't use any pets, so i don't have to worry about calling them off. I don't cast any dots on the gorrillas. At 35% health for gorrillas, I stop nuking. At 24% gorrilla health, only my tank is doing damage. This makes it very easy for me to stop any damage by 21% and plenty of time to click the scare stick on the gorrillas before they turn and run from low health.

Once they turn and run from the click stick, they are no longer KoS (even though they con KoS). They can run by other mobs and no trains will come back to you. If they do not run up the ramp and get captured, they will return to their normal pathing and remain NON-KoS to you. They do not regen any hitpoints at all.

I zone in on the first level. Run my healers and nukers to the ramp and place them about midway up. I place my tank at the very bottem of the ramp, so that the mobs never have to go up the ramp (or up a wall). Because if the mobs go up the ramp, it will result in them doing crazy pathing **** and train the whole area on me. I never over-agro with my nukers midway (or healers healing too fast too soon) up the ramp, since this would result in the mobs trying to go up the ramp. And we already know that if a mob tries to go up (and I assume down), it will result in huge trains.

One gorrilla roams near the bottem of the ramp. I usually pull that gorrilla first. Whack him with the scare stick and if he goes up, great, if not I leave him alone (since he is no longer KoS), clear the fountain area and pull that gorrilla. Whack him till he goes up. Gorrilla's don't always go up. I have to chase them around and whack them till they do usually. Anyway, once I get the fountain gorrilla to go up, I go back to the one that roams near ramp and get him up. Both gorrillas will respawn again well before the bugs respawn and I just melee them down till I can whack them.

Second level, I just make camp right at top of ramp. Two gorrillas and one bug roams near the camp. I just wait till it looks like I have time to pulla single and either kill it (bug) or whack it with stick. If one gorrilla doesn't run up the ramp, I leave it alone till I kill the bug and scare the other one up twice.

Third level. I run left from ramp of second level, going halfway past the ramp that leads up to third level. Clime up to third level via the wall. Make camp in between the ramps on the third level (there's a stone wall there, I usually sit my healers/nuker on top of the stone wall). Only 2 bugs and one gorrilla roams near that spot and the gorrilla and one of the bugs rarely does, so you can easily kill one bug and pretty much have a safe spot to pull the other bug or gorrilla. I scare the one gorrilla there till I get a fail on scarring him up the ramp, then I leave him alone. Pull the effretti on the ramp closest to the matriarch, clear 3 or 4 bugs, pull matriarch. Whack it till i get matriarch up the ramp, then go back to whacking that one gorrilla up the ramp and repeat on him again on respawn till I compltete the mission.

This mission is easy. SoE's risk vrs rewards is way off. I have boxed this mission in 52 minutes and rarely go over 1 hour 10 minutes boxxing, yet this mission is giving out 150 orums. The only dangerous thing about this mission is SoE programmers inability to program mob pathing. And the only bad thing about this mission is, you don't really get much exp. out of it, but if you're looking for easy faction and orums, this is it. 75 faction hits per run gets you to ally very fast. No doubt the rewards will take a serious nose dive soon lol.
