Assistant Buford can be found inside the Firiona Vie bank.

You say, 'Hail, Assistant Buford'

Assistant Buford says 'Well hello there. I am new to the bank. I am helping the Fargins out since it is so busy lately. Mr. Fargin doesn't even have time for his [hobby] these days.'

You say, 'What hobby?'

Assistant Buford says 'Mr. Fargin used to collect rare coins and gems. He came to Firiona Vie to do just that, but now he never has the time to [collect rare coins] since he is always working here. That is why I came to help him out.'

You say, 'I will collect rare coins'

Assistant Buford says 'If you want to help, you can begin by replacing Mr. Fargin's prized Star of Odus which was taken from his vault when he stepped out to dine one night. Do so, and I may trust you to collect coins. I will also reward you with an item a composer left here. With Mr. Fargin's approval of course.'

You can purchase a Star of Odus for about 115pp in the jewel shop under the Erudin palace. Giving it to Buford results in a "Tin Box" with 6 slots.

He says "Thank you!! I never could have gone to Odus to replace this. Perhaps now you can collect some rare coins." He asks for the following coins:

  • Torsis Ton (foraged in the Emerald Forest)
  • Royal Crown of Dalnir (dropped by A Kly Implicator in Dalnir)
  • Terraz Ton (dropped by A Failed Raider in Kaesora)
  • Veksar Gran (dropped by Bloodgill Goblins in Lake of Ill Omen)
  • Danak Gran (dropped by A Scorpikis Scrounger in The Overthere)
  • Ik Gran (dropped by Captain of the Guard in the City of Mist)

Put these gems in the box, combine it, and return the Full Coin Collection Box to Buford. He will reward you with a Nostrolo Tambourine.

Bards in Firiona Vie?

I am guessing that this quest is no longer valid, since the town of Firiona Vie is now evil.

It changed from the Banker to the Assistant when they made bankers invalid exchange NPCs. (How many people have given things to bankers by accident thinking they were depositing them?)

And once the battle displaced the high elves from the outpost they cleared out the Drolvargs from the northern Iksar / Drolvarg ruins - merchants, GMs, bankers + assistants and all.

This Nostrolo Tambourine is Percussion Intrument:22 and requires doing all the hunting and questing involved.

However, the Tambourine of Rituals is also Percussion Intrument:22 and drops off any goblin in outdoor Kunark.
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=16396

Seems a lot easier to go hunt a few goblins for a Tambourine of Rituals (or offer to buy from newbies) then to go do the whole quest for a Nostrolo Tambourine.

Sadly this quest is obsolete now that drum of karana and drums of the beast are so very over camped due to the fact BoT is basically the new sebilis or chardok for lack of better comparison for exp groups. Selo's drums of the march are now 1000pp or around on Ayonae Ro so I'd just save up for one of those if you really want to run fast...

yes you can identify these with bard song, the coins sell off an npc merchant for 1 silver. players sell them from 5pp-50pp depending on the difficulty to get the coin. on the morell-thule server anyhoo. in 1 day i found 8 Ik Gran, and 2 Terraz Ton.. still seeking the coin from OT and Dalnir. if you have and are willing to sell please look me up =). good hunting and safe travels to you.
Wellford is Nerfed

Verant just did a patch where I read that you can no longer give anything to a banker. Didn't think much about that until I tried to give my combined coins in the box to Wellford and he wouldn't take them! Only my bank inventory showed up!

Has anyone else had this problem?

Not sure if this a new thing or not, as the last post was a while back; but I found one of the coins in LOIO and was wondering what it was, I used a Silvery Mask and was able to identify it as a Veksar Gran. So not sure if just certain things allow it to be identified, but I managed it with an item. There is the possibility people just dont't know the proper way to use the spell, make sure you have yourself targetted and the item to be identified in hand (on the cursor).
Obtaining all the coins

Since there isn't much information on actually obtaining the 6 coins, I thought I'd make some comments for those interested in obtaining them themselves. Please feel free to add any comments or corrections =) any information is useful.
NOTE: I was LvL 45 when I got the majority of these coins

1) Torsis Ton (forage in the Emerald Forest)
Pretty self explainitory.. just zone/port in and start to forage. Probably the easiest to obtain since your not killing anything

2) Veksar Gran (from bloodgill goblins in lake of ill omen)
Probably the 2nd easiest to obtain not because the bloodgills are any less tough but because LOIO is almost always populated. Getting help from neighboring Lake side campers is an option. Solo'ing with Charm kiting or Fear/Snare kiting is very possible. just avoid the Bloodgill marauder as his Magic resist is VERY VERY high and not fear kiting is next to impossible. DoT kiting can be achieved if you wish to kill him but expect a 10-15 minute run for your money.

3) Danak Gran (found on A Scorpikis Scrounger in The Overthere)
Solo'ing here can be achieved but with care. Invis as you go down the ramp to avoid the Red-con Guards and you should be Aphrehensive or Dubious to the regular Scorpikis's until you start to attack. Try to find yourself a wall to hug and MAKE SURE you watch for roamers BEFORE you attack. From the ramp, head to the right til you come to just before the temple entrance and you will see a lone Spawn in the middle with a roamer that walks near the back wall inbetween Area "A" and "C" on the EQAtlas map. Scroungers ARE random spawns in most locations. If none are up in safe spots to pull from, kill regular Scorpikis til you get one to spawn. Scrounger's DO Harm touch and its best to Charm a normal Scorpikis to attack for you to take the brunt of the HT. Otherwise expect a 315+ nasty first attack.
This coin IS obtainable solo'ing but its helpful to take a partner in case things get hairy.

4) Royal Crown of Dalnir (Dropped by A Kly Implicator in Dalnir)
This zone is very fun but with some nasty falls of 90-100 HP from the 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd floors. The Kly Implicator is found in Area 2 on the SECOND floor http://www.eqatlas.com/kunark/dalnir2map.html and in 2 area's on the THIRD floor http://www.eqatlas.com/kunark/dalnir3map.html Area's 5 and 3.
This zone CAN be solo'ed but ONLY in area 5 on the third floor as there are only 2 spawns there. I suggest taking a +50 tank type to go with you as fighting will be ALOT easier and pulling all the rooms can be achieved.
IF you decide to solo, its completely safe to go invis throughout the whole zone. (wweeeee!!) Go to Area 5 on the 3rd floor and make sure you DO NOT let the MOB's to leave that room or you'll attract major add's. As a bard, you shouldn't have any problem with this camp. The Kly Implicator IS tougher than most of the other Kly's so be prepared for a close fight even though you can be alot higher in level.
(Recommend taking a partner)

5) Ik Gran (drops from Captain of the Guard in the City of Mist)
It is recommended taking a group with you to pull the Captain. A group of 3-4 should be plenty as long as you fight your way through. The captain almost always drops it so getting this one with a group shouldn't be that tough. Use that track to located the Captain thats almost always up. aleast every time I was in CoM. This is an easy coin to get as long as you got friends or a good guild to help you out.

Terraz Ton (drops from a failed raider in Kaesora)
All the rumors about this coin are true.. this truely is the hardest coin to get as the Failed raider spawns 1 in 6 times and he's on a 18 minute timer. Taking a Healer, A druid/wizard for port out and a tank ARE a must. Bare minimum attendance should be 3.. Healer and a tank LvL 50+.
Ok, if you've never been to this zone before.. MAKE SURE you print out a map of the zone as making a wrong turn can and will meet your fate and a NASTY corpse run. http://www.eqatlas.com/kunark/kaesora1map.html
To GET to Area 5 on the map, you need to zone in from Field of Bone and fall down the LEFT hole. if you fall down the CENTER hole you will most likely die from the spiders. From the fall, make sure your invized and head into the large FRENZIED room noted as Area 3. Kill the spiders and enter the door into the small room straight ahead. There is an invised wall to your left as you enter and head down the cave path killing as you go. When you get to the Library courtyard, MAKE SURE YOU KILL all the surrounding spawn points as they will agro if you pull even a single library spawn. Made that mistake more than once and we barely made it out alive. The Tombkeepers are fairly overconned for their level and will put up quite a fight so take this info as a fair warning. Med and heal up OFTEN before proceeding into the Library itself as once your inside, pulling just 1 is practically impossible.
Once you've killed all the spawns inside the library including the upstairs spawns, head out the backyard and take care of the yard trash to prevent Add's.
NOTE: Just a fair warning, be prepared for several hours of camping as the the Failed Crypt Raider is stubborn and doesn't want to spawn. The good news is, he drops the Coin almost every time and I haven't heard of him NEVER dropping it. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Exiting from Kaesora is another problem and thats why I recommend taking along a porter.
coin identification
# Jun 30 2002 at 11:36 PM Rating: Default
can these coins only be identified with the bard song? i guess that makes sense... however, i leveled up a friend's necro from 17 to 20 so i could get the iden spell and it doesn't seem to work. :( hoping it wasn't a waste of time...

CoM/EJ Coin
# May 14 2002 at 5:45 PM Rating: Default
I have something to the tune of 5 of these darn coins from the EJ and City of mists for this quest. I'm on Morell-Thule, send Aellwyn a tell and if you're nearby (or if you can port nearby) I'll gladly give your bard one for free. Would that the Thrice-Darned Kaesora Coin were anywhere near this plentiful...

Also, anyone LFG in Kaesora feel free to look me up, as i'm always nearby hoping to find a partner or five to go in to the library and camp that sucker. Only one coin to go!
i got all 6

Does anyone know if you can pick-pocket these coins from the associated mobs? I was thinking about using my rogue and picking their pockets for the necessary coins, then giving them to my cousin's bard.

Any helpful info appreciated.

oh neat idea! none of the coins I have so far are lore, magic or nodrop so I imagine pickpocketing would work although not every mob carries a coin every time and for say the kly which one do you pp?
walrus and this?

Buy your coins
# Apr 26 2002 at 7:34 AM Rating: Excellent
Sometimes if youre lucky, you can buy the coins from merchants for a few gold....for example, i bought my CoM coin from the female merchant to the left of the bank in cabilis with my iksar....So i think if you search the merchants in Cabilis, Outpost (mask of deception) and Firiona Vie you could buy the most of the coins....Only downside is that you cant be sure what coin it is youre buying, but whatever they only go for approx. 3gp or so....

Good Hunting ;-)
Cool...
# Apr 16 2002 at 12:07 PM Rating: Decent
I can't wait to get home from Sarajevo and try this wuest, it looks relatively easy, if you don't mind the polite asking of high levels for the coins (I think some of the mobs would give me a coin, but only somewhere I didn't want it) Thanks to all for their info on getting it
EJ foraged
# Apr 06 2002 at 12:09 PM Rating: Decent
Just a confirmation, the EJ coin CAN be foraged by a level 1 iksar. I made 2 since I have 2 PCs/accounts and ran them to the EJ zoneline, and clicked forage whenever it came up on both of them. Within 10 mins I had foraged an ancient coin.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 19 2002 at 7:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If anyone has the Keasora coin on Mithaniel Marr ill gladly pay 100pp or a little more for it. I have been trying to get it for the last week with no sucess.
Coin Prices

I haven't heard of people selling these coins either, but if they were really sold items, the only ones that would carry real value to a bard would be, say.. the one from Kaesora, which could likely fetch 100pp to a desperate soul. Maybe the one from CoM could get 50pp.

But seriously when I did this quest with a guildmate all of the coins except for the Kaesora one dropped first time the mob went down.

If you estimate the value of the tamborine (even though it's nodrop) to be about 1/3 above MM drums but way below a walrus skin, I'd say it'd be worth about 700pp tops. That implies that each coin would be worth a little under 100pp (deducting the cost of the Star of Odus), but given that some are a lot easier to get than others, the selling prices would be different across the board.

I disagree with this notion but it has been suggested on the Rathe server. I see people selling them on occasion in EC.

Just a thought.

-The box he gives you is NODROP however that really doesn't matter a lot since the star of odus IS tradeable.
-ALL of the coins for this quest are droppable/tradeable and it's best to use ID song to make sure you have the right ones since they are also NOT lore; I think DNC code (you don't lose your stuff when combining an invalide recipe on trade skills) also effects quest combines but even if it does its much easier to ID your coins than to play "guess which coin this is"
-Bards get a CLASS forage skill of 40 or 50, I'm a half elf bard (no racial forage) and I forage rare items including stuff like plains pebbles. Even at 40 skill vs iksar racial 50 skill if you are a bard above level 20 you can get to edge of the EJ zone to forage your own coin although I'll admit some druid in my guild gave me mine.
-Scorpikis scroungers are random rare spawns in place of regular scorpikis and are shadowknights with harm touch and appropriate level SK spells, they are also on venrilsathir faction for any bards like me who enjoy using their masks to go everywhere, the drop rate is about 50 percent.
-Bloodgills are overly easy for anyone above oh say 45 and have little hitpoints and hit really weak for their level (my 50 rogue didn't break a sweat tanking a bunch of them while we waited to do the monk epic.) If you are in LOIL long enough someone will be hunting them and since they probably let coins rot they will most likely let you grab one if you mention its for a bard quest.
-The quest is easiest if you collect all the coins first and maybe buy a star of odus when your in the neighborhood say when you buy songs in Erudin and then wait till you have everything to turn in the star for a box.
-You could hand your level 1 bard all the coins and the star and send them off to FV and do this quest at level 1, there is no minimum level requirement outside of the level of the mobs.
-The drum is nodrop so it can't be sold. The coins may have some minor value to some bards but can probably only be sold if you find someone twinking their bard or too stupid/lazy to get the easy ones themselves. All my coins came from either me killing for them or getting them from friends who had hunted in the appropriate places anyhow.
-Unless you get some greedy pig most people see these drop all the time if they are hunting in these places and will usually let you loot coins.

The coin isn't nodrop, look again. The shield and ulak he has are nodrop. If your coin really is nodrop it's a bug or something.

Someone once told me this quest was almost impossable to do and i couldnt undersatnd why. I have the tin box with all the coins in it except the coin from Kaesora. Now i realize why it is almost impossable...the Kaesora coin is a SunnofaB to get. I realized this by just simply looking and the map and then actually going there. You'll all see what i mean as this quest grows closer to an end for you all. Good Luck!
