Assistant Buford can be found inside the Firiona Vie bank.

You say, 'Hail, Assistant Buford'

Assistant Buford says 'Well hello there. I am new to the bank. I am helping the Fargins out since it is so busy lately. Mr. Fargin doesn't even have time for his [hobby] these days.'

You say, 'What hobby?'

Assistant Buford says 'Mr. Fargin used to collect rare coins and gems. He came to Firiona Vie to do just that, but now he never has the time to [collect rare coins] since he is always working here. That is why I came to help him out.'

You say, 'I will collect rare coins'

Assistant Buford says 'If you want to help, you can begin by replacing Mr. Fargin's prized Star of Odus which was taken from his vault when he stepped out to dine one night. Do so, and I may trust you to collect coins. I will also reward you with an item a composer left here. With Mr. Fargin's approval of course.'

You can purchase a Star of Odus for about 115pp in the jewel shop under the Erudin palace. Giving it to Buford results in a "Tin Box" with 6 slots.

He says "Thank you!! I never could have gone to Odus to replace this. Perhaps now you can collect some rare coins." He asks for the following coins:

  • Torsis Ton (foraged in the Emerald Forest)
  • Royal Crown of Dalnir (dropped by A Kly Implicator in Dalnir)
  • Terraz Ton (dropped by A Failed Raider in Kaesora)
  • Veksar Gran (dropped by Bloodgill Goblins in Lake of Ill Omen)
  • Danak Gran (dropped by A Scorpikis Scrounger in The Overthere)
  • Ik Gran (dropped by Captain of the Guard in the City of Mist)

Put these gems in the box, combine it, and return the Full Coin Collection Box to Buford. He will reward you with a Nostrolo Tambourine.

forage

According to several sites, rare forage items in Kunark do not require 100+ skill. My lev 10 Iskar monk has foraged rare items in many of the Kunark zones.
4 coins in 3 hours
# Feb 18 2001 at 1:02 AM Rating: Default
I made a lvl 1 iksar, ran her to EJ just inside the zone and within 15 minutes, I had the foraged coin. A guildmate bard would need one also so I logged in a few days later and within two hours got another, and 2 more in the next 5 clicks. 4 foraged coins in 3 hours, not bad at all. :)

I think its like any skill, you can go for awhile without your swimming increasing, but then get 3 points in a row. Cyclical, and I happened to hit the cycle at the right times.
coins no drop?

woo hoo, i'm not a high enough level to tackle lvl 48 things but hopefully i can find someone with some extra coins, or someone selling them, this looks like an awesome drum
Emerald Jungle Coin
# Jul 13 2000 at 12:13 PM Rating: Default
I've personally foraged the coin with a level 2 iksar warrior, not sure where their forage starts out at, but it's enough to get the coin. Haven't tried with my bard just because of everyone saying it isn't possible...
Kaesora Library
# Jul 09 2000 at 1:33 PM Rating: Decent
The Failed Crypt Raider spawns in the middle of the library next to the librarians.
tambourine
# Jul 08 2000 at 8:40 PM Rating: Decent
Im not a bard, but i noticed something. The item is called the nostrolo tambourine! There is a famous bard named Vhalen Nostrolo in the southern karanas! you might get an even bigger reward if you give the tambourine to him!!!
Drums GOOD!
# Jul 07 2000 at 1:45 AM Rating: Default
The drums kick ***. :)

Definitely worth it - I'd even suggest bumping the rating of this quest up to excellent simply because it allows the Bard to explore various zones and it is relatively speaking, rather easy to complete. The coin is not no drop - heck, it's not even LORE. You can pick up multiple coins if you want to sell them or give them to another bard to help them out.

Details on Failed Crypt Raider?
# Jul 05 2000 at 12:52 PM Rating: Excellent
Ok, I have 5 of the 6 coins needed for the Tamborine.
The one I need is the Kaesora coin.

I know that the coin is dropped in Kaesora by the Failed Crypt Raider in the Library.

I know where the Library is but I do NOT know where the Failed Crypt Raider spawns IN the Library. I do not want to keep clearing the entire Library when I'm only after the one spawn.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks in Advance!

Oh, and for those that want to know, here is what I know about the rest of the quest...

Star of Odus - a gem which you can buy at the Erudin Gem Shop near the bank for about
110-120pp.

-the Torsis Ton
Foraged in Emerald Jungle zone. This requires a forage skill greater than 100 so you need a Druid or a Ranger to do it.

-the Ik Gran
Dropped by the Captain of the Guard in City of Mist. He's a random spawn, this means he pops up in odd places. A group fighting at zone and pulling mobs from deeper in will get him eventually. He looks like a ghost.

-the Veksar Gran
Dropped by Bloodgill Goblins which spawn underwater in the Lake of Ill Omen. Several of these guys are close together and can be hard to pull just one. However, there are one or two which spawn away from the others so if you look dilligently you'll be able to pull them. I went down and just pulled 3 and then kited them and got coin. They were mostly blue to a L48.

-the Danak Gran
Dropped by Scorpikis Scrounger in the Canyon in The Overthere. There is only one of this guy and I found him in only one place in the canyon. There are 4 caves in the canyon (5 cave openings, 1 cave has 2 openings) and the Scrounger spawns in the one with the nest. You'll know what I mean by nest if you see it. If you look at a map of the zone, the cave you want is the one that is furthest WEST. Scorps did NOT see invis and most were green to a L48 though the Scrounger was blue. They are SK's and a few HT's (even from greens) can drop you quick!

-the Royal Crown of Dalnir
Dropped by the Kly Imprecator in Dalnir. The Imprecator can spawn in 3 specific places in Dalnir. 1 place is on the 2nd level (here's the best way I know to describe it) From the 2nd level zone teleporter with your back to the teleporter follow your LEFT wall around till you come to a room (not a hall but a room). Enter that room and to your left will be an alcove in the room. That is where the Imprecator spawns. On the 3rd level of Dalnir the Imprecator can spawn in 2 places. One is in the church and the other is in the Lab near where The Kly and Kly Overseer spawn. I do not know the exact location of their placeholders. At L48 I could solo almost anything in this dungeon and only the Kly himself conned blue to me. Invis works well here except for the 2 undead mobs in here which can really ruin your whole day.

-the Terraz Ton
Dropped by the Failed Crypt Raider in Kaesora Library. I know where the library is but have not gotten this coin yet so I don't have more details.

Hope this helps!

I got the coin in Kaesora in the library room. and the name was "Failed Crypt Raider"
Well worth it

This is an upgrade to MM Drums and about equal in effect to Sharkskin drums (and easier to get IMHO). The no drop tag is VERY nice.. now if there was just an icon for it when you play it...
Foraged Coin
# Jun 30 2000 at 5:28 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, one of the coins is foraged, and while its a pain that bards don't have high enough forage skill, it only takes a level 19 ranger or druid - so I guess the only way is to ask friends or persuade someone to find one for you

All Iksar also have a chance to get special foraged items such as the coin.
Are the coins no-drop?
# Jun 30 2000 at 4:11 PM Rating: Default
I know the final product (the tambourine) is no-drop, but are all the coins no-drop as well? If they are, and the one you forage requires a Forage skill as high as the Plains Pebbles do (100 or more), then no Wood Elf Bard is ever going to have one of these tambourines....
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 08 2000 at 3:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Plains Pebbles do not require a high Forage skill, certainly not 100. I, as an Iksar Monk, with standard forage skills foraged very many of these in the Karanas, in fact they are required for our Shackle of Bronze quest. I'm not going to say that the Torsis Ton can be foraged with our standard forage skill, but you are mistaken with the Plains Pebbles assumption.
RE: Are the coins no-drop?
# Dec 15 2000 at 4:50 AM Rating: Excellent
Actually *you* are mistaken in how forage works. Iksar have a fixed forage skill of 50, but are able to forage any special items. Non-Iksar must have at least 100 forage to get special items.

A bard cannot raise skill sufficient to forage a Torsis Ton or a Plains Pebble, but both can be traded, so they just need a little help from a lizard, or a high enough (level 19+) ranger or druid.
