Assistant Buford can be found inside the Firiona Vie bank.

You say, 'Hail, Assistant Buford'

Assistant Buford says 'Well hello there. I am new to the bank. I am helping the Fargins out since it is so busy lately. Mr. Fargin doesn't even have time for his [hobby] these days.'

You say, 'What hobby?'

Assistant Buford says 'Mr. Fargin used to collect rare coins and gems. He came to Firiona Vie to do just that, but now he never has the time to [collect rare coins] since he is always working here. That is why I came to help him out.'

You say, 'I will collect rare coins'

Assistant Buford says 'If you want to help, you can begin by replacing Mr. Fargin's prized Star of Odus which was taken from his vault when he stepped out to dine one night. Do so, and I may trust you to collect coins. I will also reward you with an item a composer left here. With Mr. Fargin's approval of course.'

You can purchase a Star of Odus for about 115pp in the jewel shop under the Erudin palace. Giving it to Buford results in a "Tin Box" with 6 slots.

He says "Thank you!! I never could have gone to Odus to replace this. Perhaps now you can collect some rare coins." He asks for the following coins:

  • Torsis Ton (foraged in the Emerald Forest)
  • Royal Crown of Dalnir (dropped by A Kly Implicator in Dalnir)
  • Terraz Ton (dropped by A Failed Raider in Kaesora)
  • Veksar Gran (dropped by Bloodgill Goblins in Lake of Ill Omen)
  • Danak Gran (dropped by A Scorpikis Scrounger in The Overthere)
  • Ik Gran (dropped by Captain of the Guard in the City of Mist)

Put these gems in the box, combine it, and return the Full Coin Collection Box to Buford. He will reward you with a Nostrolo Tambourine.

As a side note bards get forage skill at a 40 cap and iksar racial forage is skill 50. Both iksars and bards can forage special items in a zone, it just takes a lot longer than for someone with 100 or higher forage skill.

I was able to get most of the coins for my drum by asking friends/guildmates for the ones I didn't have, the rest is a trip to odus for the star and using identify song to make sure I only used one of each.

Level Requirement
# Mar 13 2001 at 11:18 PM Rating: Default
I was wonder if there was a level requirement for the quest.

Also I was wondering if the coins have to be put in the tin box in a certain order.

Also is this quest broke or working now?

The 14th song, Lyssa's Cataloging Libretto, found in Erud, will identify the coins for you.

Target yourself, pick up the coin and let it hang on your cursor and start the song. The name of the item will be revealed.

You want to do EJ easy? Give a /shout in the field of bone that you'll pay some plats to have someone forage a coin in the EJ for ya. Tell em how to get there, first one that brings it to you is the lucky winner. With no effort at all, I had the coin in 20 minutes.

So just how many level 40-45 people DOES it take to get to the library and hold it long enough to kill the failed raider? Had a 45 bard and 40 druid trying it last night and didn't even get inside the door (those damned healers are nasty). Advice from someone who did this WITHOUT 50+ characters would be helpful.

A solid group of 40s can easily take and hold this room with an enchanter. Just pull them out to the front. I did it as a level 40 Enchanter with a cleric, paladin, bard and warrior all 40 to 45.
RE: Kaesora
# Feb 02 2001 at 6:23 PM Rating: Default
With a full group includeing 2 enchanters we held the front of the library for enough time that I could collect 2 coins for my guild (no bards around and no one else wanted them).

We had a 44 sk with us, I was second as a 37 monk, rest were 30-35

Not only can you hold it, you can rake in experience at the mid 30s to low 40s. Outstanding area, fairly wide open for slow pulls, but if you have an aoe group (chanter, wizzie/druid/mage/cleric), you can rack up experience. Monsters here are not overly difficult, some clerics, but stun/aoe took them out easily.

Great loot for your level, a group of enchanter, warrior, druid, druid, warrior and bard ended up with two spirit tomes, a deathwatch sword, the coin and quite a bit in plat. Outstanting experience as well.

I completed the quest today. Was banking last night and realized that in my explorations of Kunark, I had collected 5 of the coins. I identified them and realized all that I needed to get was the one in the Overthere, so I ran my blueberry but to the Overthere and shouted for a partner. Within 2 minutes a 38 bard with the tambourine volunteered to help, and we ran into the gorge. We killed about 10 regular skorps before the Skorpikis Scrounger spawned, but we were getting decent EXP and only taking damage on the initial nuke/HT that the skorps use.
Once the coin dropped I thanked the other bard, met a guildmate in Field of Bone for port to Tox Forest, got my Star of Odus and picked up 44 and 49 song for the bard who helped me, and ported to Dreadlands. A quick run across to FV, a bit of nervous double checking, traded Star of Odus for coin collecting box, filled and combined, and traded for tambourine and got about 1/3 bubble of exp.
This quest works correctly, and there was another bard completing it about 5 minutes after I did. Including the bard who helped me (thanks again Tulliun) there were three of us running around at top speed. Made the rest of FV dizzy I'm sure. All in all I got almost a full bubble from killing skorps and completing quest, and got a great item. This quest is probably even more fun than the Lambent Quest. Any exploring bard would be advised to do this quest.

If you started a level 1 iksar, took 5 mins to run to emerald jungle and just hit forage every chance you got you could get this coin for free.

Coin Collecting and Kaesora

In collecting the coin from Kaesora last nite, I observed something which I had not seen posted here, so I thought I would pass it along. After camping the library for approximately 3 hours last nite, the group had worn thin so we had moved into the library proper to pull. What happened next proves that the failed crypt raider and the librarian are not tied together in anyway. The librarian popped for about the 4th time that night and shortly after he dropped the failed crypt raider showed up.
Another item of note is when turning in the Star of Odus for the collection box be certain that you have an empty main inventory slot. Since it was late I failed to do so when I turned in my first Star...net result 105p lost and another run to Erud required.

Failed Raid Coin no Rent?
# Oct 14 2000 at 3:05 PM Rating: Default
I did the quest for my lvel 18 bard using my level 52 wizard to collect all the coins. Collecting them was an adventure. The Bloodgills actually gave me exp and I died once trying to solo them then lost my corpse in the Lake of Ill Omen for a while. After I had collected allthe coins I logged to log in my bard and move him to position. When I came back on with my wizzie, one of the coins had disappeared, the one from Kaesora that drops on the Failed Crypt Raider that spawns in the library. I went and got another one and completed the quest. However, a warning to all those doing the quest is that the Terraz Ton my now be no rent. Good luck everyone!

I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

Got mine!
# Oct 11 2000 at 11:57 AM Rating: Decent
Woot! Got mine a few nights ago!
My story about the coins:

My guild provided me with 3 of them (Torsis Ton, Veksar Gran, Danak Gran).

I bought my Royal Crown of Dalnir from a Ogre Warrior for about 300p. I was charming Hill Giants all day, and was encumbered with money anyway! I gave him what I had on me just to get rid of the weight. I don't think that its worth anywhere near 300p.

For the Ik Gran, I created a level 1 Iskar Warrior, begged for buffs and a sow, and ran to the City of Mist. It only took 2 tries. I stayed close to the walls and only ran during the day. Camping to wait for night to pass. When I got there, I begged for a Bind at the door. I OOC for a coin. If no one had it, I camped and tried again later. That took about 2 RL hours. When some nice Enchanter handed me a Coin, I changed my OOC's to Paying for TP to Gfay or Steamfont. That cost me 100p. I had a guild brother meet me there with the cash.

I did the same thing for the Terraz Ton. Created a level 1 Iskar Warrior, and ran him to Kaesora. Begged for the coin. Camped if no one had it, and I tried again later. Someone handed me the coin. I ran back to Cabilis. I had a guild brother create another Iskar Warrior and handed him the coin. He ran outside the newbie gates in the Swamp of no Hope. Where my 41lvl bard meet him after running from FV.

I did the quest, got a half bubble of experience, and now I have a Nostrolo Tambourine! It is a most awesome item, and it looks like a tambourine when equipped.

Hope this helps.

My method for madness
# Oct 06 2000 at 11:10 PM Rating: Default
Since I'm spending alot of time in Kunark, I thought I'd get started on this quest, and turned out getting very far into it. Heres how I did it:

1. The emerald jungle (Torsis Ton) is the easiest to get, because its foraged. Any ranger or druid fighting there will give it to you for a cheap price (worthless to them otherwise) I've gotten 3, just from random ppl, though I did pay 15pp for 1.

2. Dalnir is prolly second easiest, if youve got invis, and know the zone. Theres always ppl farming in Dalnir, so they might have picked it up, meaning you can just ask, and they'll likely give it to you. A guildmember who was doing this gave me 1, and he had several more.

3. Ill Omens one is harder than it seems, because the goblins are in the vicinity of barracudas, which can be very difficult. I was lucky enough to get the help of a friend, and a 51 druid, and on the 2nd one, I got a coin.

4. City of Mist. No clue, never went there, but lots of ppl have, and I just asked for coins long enough that someone turned up.

Those are the coins that I have, I will update on how I got the rest, and though I'm only lvl 36, I've found that this quest can be fairly easy, for the most part.

Stats are not important, what is important is that it increasesd your percussion effect by 20% so for Selos you will move 20% faster than with just a plain Drum

Eqsongs has a good bard instrument reference.
According to them the mistmoore battle drum gives a 17% boost to percussion songs, and the nostrolo tambourine gives a 23% boost. (These percentages do not apply to all songs. The testing was done with Chant of Battle; many songs, but not all, seem to be affected the same way.)

About the Captian
# Sep 18 2000 at 9:53 AM Rating: Default
I have hunted in the City of Mist for awhile now and here is what I have noted about the Captian of the Guards.

1. In the 10+ times I have killed him he has always been a skeleton.

2. He has always spawned near and/or around the gate. Which is near the zone.

3. He has always dropped the coin

Not sure what the City of Mist zone is like on your server, but on Rodcet Nife there is almost always a raid going on or a group pulling near the zone.

Wish I could help on the difficulty of this spawn but he is green to me at 51st lvl.

I was wondering if anyone has actually given up there Nostrolo tamborine to Mr. Nostrolo? If so, did you get anything in return? Plz let us know :)
RE: Anyone tried giving a tamborine to Nostrolo?
# Sep 17 2000 at 12:25 PM Rating: Default
I would try when I get my tamborine..... BUT I gotta use my higher level characters to get the things, pull out favors from people to go get the coins with me, etc etc..... I don't want to do all that, and then have my bard hand in a kickass drum to Nostrolo to get a thank you, and nothing else..... Then I'd have to pull out more favors and my friends would be pissed off etc.... i think a lot of people just want to not go through all the **** again

its kind of like the fiery avenger quest - people didn't want to experiment to hand in their soulfire and ghoulbanes..... it took some major leaps of faith to hand in that soulfire.... in that case it worked out rather well though ;P

Foraged Coin confirmation
# Sep 07 2000 at 9:07 PM Rating: Default
Yes you can forage it with a low level Iksar §who begin with 50 in forage).
I created a monk, raised it to level 2 (lots of scaled wolf pups on the way to Emerald Jungle...) and zoned in EJ.

It took me about 5 or 6 hours to get the coin, but I was doing something else RL and pressing the forage key wasnt a big deal (but damn boring).

The problem is that you can have three different "special foraged items" in EJ : emerald root, maneater bud or the coin. I got 3 roots, 3 flowers before having a coin. Think it must be harder to get.

Is the city of mist coin no rent...? I killed all the monsters and people were kind enough to give me the coins from Dalnir and Kaseora. I killed the Captain of the guard myself....i just noticed im one coin short? or is one of the other coins no rent? Also if u use identify will that tell u what coins u have...Torsis Ton etc? so i can know for sure what im missing
RE: No Rent?

Im pretty sure none of the coins is no rent since I logged many a time with most coins in my posession. The COM coin was the first I got too.
You can also get a wiz to identify the coins, I had this done to make sure I had all 6.

So far I have gotten five of the six coins for this quest. The remaining being the Kaseora coin, which someone is currently holding for me for next time I see him (about two hours from now). Anyway, I figured I would spill some stuff about the quest, and how I did it, because I for one knew NOTHING about the zones I was going into.

#1) Bloodgill Goblin Coin: First one I got. From Friona, take a left out from the bridge, follow the water all the way up a stream and you will zone to Lake of Ill Omen. Once there, follow stream to the lake. Blood gills are pretty much stright out. At this point mem charm, levitate, and lull songs. Since the gobo's are in groups of 2-3 you begin by lulling the ones you dont want to come. Then Charm the one you do so it will pull it but not agro you, thus letting you turn on levitate and be able to run across the water back to land. Not to fast or you loose it. Once on land pull it back to the wall, and use selos constant chain and fear songs to kite it to death. They have decently low MR because I was not resisted once. The coin didnt drop on the first one, it dropped on the second one I pulled however so it does NOT always drop.

#2) Emerald Jungle Coin (foraged): This was the easiest. I just looked around EJ and the connecting zones (which I found by running the zone walls) for a forager. One eventually came, and it cost me 29 plat for the services of a very kind druid. Took about 15 min of constant foraging to get the coin, but its just luck of the draw. I'm not going to explain the way to EJ from Friona, but www.eqmaps.com will let you know the way with very nice maps.

#3) City of Mist coin: All you need is a group, and start pulling. He spawns just about anywhere (so I've been told, only stayed for one spawn) and he is random...meaning back to back or one every 8 hours. He always drops the coin, and as a side note a very neat looking sheild and weapon. They are for quests and basicly useless, but still pretty neat. I believe they are no rent however (not the coin).

#4) Crypt of Dalnir Coin: This zone was a ***** to find. In Warlisks Woods, go to 3500, 3500 and start looking on the sides of hills. There is a tree covering a hole up with its leaves. Once you go in, take the first right, and the water is fake. Nothing would attack me in there at 45 and I had invis song on. The Kly Implicator spawns on the second level, and is not possible to fight 1 on 1 because of all the sperms and goo around him that will jump you, plus a wandering mob that will come in once and a while. Best bet is to just ask people around the zone if they have the coin if you want to do this solo (even though everything is weak, stuff runs, and nobody likes 20+ green mobs). On a side note, the Room that the Kly spawns in will constantly despawn, and fairly quickly so if hes up kill him fast.

#5) Overthere Coin: If you zone to the over there from Warsliks woods, just go stright and a tad to the left. I had no idea where the canyon was and I ran right into it doing that. The scrounger was easy to pull alone, he was the third scorp back and the canyon is wide and they arent within agro radius of eachother (not what I had envisioned). I pulled him out of the canyon and all the way back to the wall stright back from it. He HT'ed me, but that was about all he did, a few breaks in my fear though so he had decent MR. Blue to 45. None the less pretty easy.

#6) Kaseora Coin: Of all the bards I know who have done this quest (being me and one other guy) this coin was the last one gotten. Neither of us actually went in for the coin ourselves, we got them through people who were just going to destroy them anyway. I didnt have to pay for mine (friend traded stuff for it, dont remember what but dont go wild over it). Just go into Kaseora, /shout Looking for Ancient Coin from Failed Raider! and wait for a response, if there is none, camp. Come back an hour or so later and repeat. I got one after about 3 hours of that playing D2 all the while between. Some guy eventually answered me and as I mentioned will be meeting me tonight to give it to me.

Over all, I would say you should be 40+ for this quest, and that you should use www.eqmaps.com as your best friend. Great way to get to know Kunark though, plus while in EJ I got to meet up with the new Dragon =0 Very impressive looking model. Oh and one more thing, Welford Fargin is the BANKER, the BANKER is Welford Fargin. I stress that because I couldnt find him (didnt show up on track) so I went to the bank to deposit my Star of Odus and lo and behold who am I using but the very guy I was looking for.

Anyway, great quest. I know almost all of Kunark now in the sense I can get from Zone A to Zone B without running around like an idiot anymore. Very worth doing. To bad its gonna look like a flute :(

Anyway sorry bout the length, but I thought it might help. Enjoy your quest! If ya need help gimme a tell on Xegony.

This drum is no drop....
Implying that it is part of another quest... right?

Now the banker himself talks about this
"I will reward you with something a COMPOSSER left behind"

Now rememeber the early bard quests to turn in the sheets of music to Nostrolo? I am guessing he Wrote those because hes a Composser.... So the name on the drums and his are not a coinsadence

Second Part ---> I recall someone talking about a bard quest where you talk to Nostrolo about why his song is Sad....... and this was unsolved... i rememeber him saying that someone took his instrument or something...
So???

Perhaps we shall question Nostrolo...
I say you try it and keep this in mind

But you dont want to give up the Drum right?
Well once you get it, get all 6 coins AGAIN.... so you can try.......

No, he didn't say someone took his instrument. Rather, his girlfriend left him and took up with some evil folk.

However, this doesn't mean the two aren't related ;) Nor does it mean that Nostrolo is the composer that left it behind.

What about the scout that brags about a helm he took off of some bard? Could he be related?

Hello. To the 'what you smokin dude': I'm a woodelf bard. Our forage skill is capped at 55. The druid and ranger woodelves don't have this cap.

Oh, after a few deaths, I have managed to gather all these coins. The Kaesora was THE toughest coin to obtain, because the spawn is kinda rare, and the dungeon sucks ;) However, three 50 + levels were able to help me, and kindly donated it to me. (After me sitting at the entrance for 4 RL hours asking for kindly 'semi-gods' to help me.)

The Tamborine rocks. Worth the three weeks of searching the merchants in FV for sold coins, and talking to way higher level bards with extras...
Also, worth creating an Iksar to search the merchants near the zones where the coin might get sold.

Now, if I could only find a burynai bundt cake...

But Iksar can forage rare items even thought they have a limited forage. It is a "special" ability of theirs.

The one off the Imp in Dalnir is called "Ancient Coin". Haven't bothered to identify it so I could be wrong. =)

you're right, my then lvl 53 bard(with capped forage skill, of course) foraged up the EJ coin when I wasn't even trying for it... seems completely random, and there's a bunch of other zone-specific forages in every kunark zone that I've picked up with this char, so I doubt there's a minimum forage skill cap, atleast in kunark.
