Assistant Buford can be found inside the Firiona Vie bank.

You say, 'Hail, Assistant Buford'

Assistant Buford says 'Well hello there. I am new to the bank. I am helping the Fargins out since it is so busy lately. Mr. Fargin doesn't even have time for his [hobby] these days.'

You say, 'What hobby?'

Assistant Buford says 'Mr. Fargin used to collect rare coins and gems. He came to Firiona Vie to do just that, but now he never has the time to [collect rare coins] since he is always working here. That is why I came to help him out.'

You say, 'I will collect rare coins'

Assistant Buford says 'If you want to help, you can begin by replacing Mr. Fargin's prized Star of Odus which was taken from his vault when he stepped out to dine one night. Do so, and I may trust you to collect coins. I will also reward you with an item a composer left here. With Mr. Fargin's approval of course.'

You can purchase a Star of Odus for about 115pp in the jewel shop under the Erudin palace. Giving it to Buford results in a "Tin Box" with 6 slots.

He says "Thank you!! I never could have gone to Odus to replace this. Perhaps now you can collect some rare coins." He asks for the following coins:

  • Torsis Ton (foraged in the Emerald Forest)
  • Royal Crown of Dalnir (dropped by A Kly Implicator in Dalnir)
  • Terraz Ton (dropped by A Failed Raider in Kaesora)
  • Veksar Gran (dropped by Bloodgill Goblins in Lake of Ill Omen)
  • Danak Gran (dropped by A Scorpikis Scrounger in The Overthere)
  • Ik Gran (dropped by Captain of the Guard in the City of Mist)

Put these gems in the box, combine it, and return the Full Coin Collection Box to Buford. He will reward you with a Nostrolo Tambourine.

Lowest Level to do quest?
# Oct 07 2001 at 12:05 AM Rating: Default
What is the lowest level that can do this quest? I've gotten nearly all the coins with my 54 ranger and I have a level 13 bard, would he get the tamborine or not?

You can do this quest at level 1 if you are able to get your level 1 character safely to Firiona Vie to give the coins to Wellford.

EJ Forage Coin EASY!!
# Sep 14 2001 at 10:08 PM Rating: Decent
I just got my last coin which was the Emerald Jungle one. I created an Iksar SK and ran him very carefully to EJ (I did nothing else with him at all, no guild note, no killing, no memming spells) and foraged at the zoneline between it and Field of Bone for exactly 10 forage attempts and I got this coin. So it CAN be done with a forage skill of 50 which is what I was told an Iksar had to start with.

I went to try and solo the scrounger (nobody on my server hunts in the canyon). I found him on track by the temple entrances in the canyon. He conned blue to me at 39, so I tried to kite him; he hit me for 41 pts, then cast some sort of wrath spell on me that did 350+ points - twice - before I got out of range. Is this the same scrounger as the one in the quest? Has Verant changed it to a caster?

You must have aggroed more than 2 of them, the spell you are talking about is harmtouch. "You Writhe in the grip of agony". Shadowknight ability, I have seen them hit me for 321, 331, 341, 351, and 361.
The hardest
# Aug 27 2001 at 12:05 AM Rating: Good
I'm going to have to whole-heartedly agree that that hardest of the coins to get is from Kaesora. The mob is fairly rare and the zone is pretty much bring your own group, so its hard to either a)get a pick up group in the library or b)have a group there with extra coins.

The failed raider spawns around the library and wanders about a bit.

in ej all u do is get a druid to port u then forage it its not that hard they way u can get there is by a druid port so just ask them most nice druids whould
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 07 2001 at 10:40 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You must forage a coin in the Emerald Forest, thought it was Jungle. Correct? However, you can not forage anything other than food below a skill of 100 and the Bards skill cap is 55. So, how can a soloing bard forage this? Yet another mission imposible by Verant.
OT ancient coin
# Jul 31 2001 at 12:53 AM Rating: Default
I put my Necro to work getting this coin. As a result of doing the OT hammer quest, He was amiable to the skorps in the valley. I went to the loc provided later on in the comments and sure enough, killed only 3 skorps and the scrounger popped and I got my coin. Now, since it was so easy I ended up swapping this coin for a COM coin thinking I'd just go back and get another one fast.

Not quite. I went back to the same spot and killed at least a dozen or more until my faction was back to indifferent. I had to go and fill a couple of backpacks with braids to get back to amiable. Killed another dozen. No scrounger. Did braid quest again. I gave it another try the next day before work except this time I went for a wander hoping he was in the canyon somewhere. I went to the spot with the 2 named skorps and followed the wall to their left and found the scrounger near the top of the next hill.

I guess he could show up in many places, so go for a wander and change your luck!
forage question
# Jul 05 2001 at 10:47 PM Rating: Default
As a woodelf bard I've never been able to forage anything but the regular veggies, roots, rabbit meat etc. I've never foraged a non-food item (other than those blasted fishing grubs I've littered the face of Norrath with) It seems to me that I would have to have a druid or Iksar friend forage the Torsis Ton coin from Emerald Forest. Does anyone know if we bards can forage this for ourselves?
RE: forage question
# Feb 07 2002 at 8:07 PM Rating: Default
YES, it is possible to forage a non food item. i have a wood elf bard myself, and have been n the Karanas for a long time. Every now and then i forage a plains pebble. so just giving you my 2 sense about that little forageing thing.
scroungers
# Jun 23 2001 at 1:57 AM Rating: Default
THe scorpikis coin I got near the southern entrance of the canyon. We had to kill 10 or 12 before the scrounger spawned. With a 42 bard and me a 35 bard we could take out single scorps without much trouble, with a few mins downtime each time. The hard touch at first is scary, but that is the main damage you receive. You can then fear kite them for little damage. They have an incredibly small agro range, even if you fight their buddies. Don't be afraid to fight in the canyon.

It is hard to get a group because of OT faction. And as a bard if you are intending to bank there using the mask of deception I don't know if it is an issue.

They give VERY good xp, and good loot. They are better to fight than the normal trees and grims in the OT. I am very glad I was forced to go in there.

The hard zone is Kaesora because noone ever goes there. It is so far to go, and you need a port out. But it is well worth it. Mega xp. the key is to hunt at the fountain just south of 5 on the eq atlas map.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 25 2001 at 9:13 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) if you aren't an idiot and you have half a brain you would know that you do NOT i repeat do NOT need a port out of kaesora theres an easy way out trust me i went in there the other night thinking that same thing and came out knowing it was wrong, no porter needed.(i was in there for HS key quest not this dumb tambourine)
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 11 2001 at 1:14 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You called him an idiot and said he had half a brain for thinking that he needed a port out? Odd that you thought you did as well. Stop with name calling already.
OK, this is not fun

So I hop my happy lvl 52 enchanter over to dalnir thinking i'll nock this little quest out for my bard. Monk shows me to the sarcophagus to drop down to lvl 2. Pet can't follow because of pathing, drop down in there, mez everything, get a new pet after several tries of "player can't have more than ONE pet", and promptly die after all the GREEN crap breaks mez and i'm OOM. what the hell is going on down there. This game sucks.
RE: OK, this is not fun
# Aug 15 2001 at 1:06 PM Rating: Decent
i am a lvl 51 enchanter and i successfully soloed the entire second floor while doing this quest. the trick is to use Theft of Thought to keep your mana up, everything there casts, then just let the pet do the rest.
the above is true though.. chanters do suck at soloing :)
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 25 2001 at 1:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have 2 words for you "ENCHANTERS SUCK" at soloing so there ya have it that is why you couldnt do it
Overthere Coin
# Jun 20 2001 at 8:30 AM Rating: Default
A was able to finally find a Scorpikis Scrounger after killing 20 - 30 regular Scorpikis. The Scrounger spawned near the LOC provided below (thank you BTW). However when it first appeared it was in the building that houses Modani Ou'Loni a named Scorpikis with a pet. Modani is apparently a level 55 enchanter who is somehow involved in the enchanter epic quest. Both times I ran into him he could not see through invis. The building is the farthest east of all the buildings. After spawning the Scrounger left the building which is when my group slayed him. I recommend setting up base near this building due to the limited range of bard tracking.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 03 2001 at 6:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Incidently if you identify the coin, it will tell you what its name is.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 18 2001 at 8:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) it takes 100 to forage special gear, at maxed forage skill I have NEVER EVER with constant foraging since the character was created (wood elf) EVER found anything special. Not once.
Maybe Iksar can forage "special gear" with lower skill...
# Jun 03 2001 at 7:22 AM Rating: Default
...my shammy Iksar foraged the coin in the Emerald Jungle the other day. Never got the oranges I was after though...

And an Iksar's forage skill is stuck around 50ish forever.
in case it`s not clear yet
# Apr 26 2001 at 12:01 AM Rating: Default
If it`s not clear yet, all the coins related to this quest look golden and are labelled "Ancient Coin".

Started the quest today and got 5 out of 6 in about 10 hours of game time doing everything myself. I am a level 47 bard and I had no problem soloing everything using either charm on multiple mobs or chant of flame and of frost while kyting with chains.

Only coin left to get is the Kaesora one, will try to find people to help me camp it tomorrow, it seems to be the only one (besides the CoM one) that cannot really be done while soloing.

And by god, why are so many people arguing on how to forage a coin, weather you do it yourself or have another character do it for you doesn`t matter, as long as you get the frigging coin.
The coin in EJ is the easiest one to get so stop waisting space.

To conclude, I agree that this quest is a must for all exploring bards. Don`t do it the cheap *** way, do it yourself.

Ok I helped a buddy of mine get his tamb. the other night. He managed to buy all of the coins except for the one from kas. So we had to get it ourselves. Ok first off, the camp to get the Failed Crypt Raider to spawn was long, around 4 or 5 hours. Next thing, the coin is just like any other bard coin tradeable, stays when you log etc. Third, the Failed crypt raider looks like a normal skele, like the ones in WC etc. Ok here I am referencing the map from eqatlas.com. Now your best bet is to set up camp in the library. The failed crypt raider spawned in the back of the library right at the bottom of the stairs. He was on a differnt cycle than the Librarian or the Guardian of Xalgoz. The number on the eqatlas map is number 5. My group (50 shaman, 45 druid, and 43 warrior) cleared and kept clean the library and the "backyard" labeled #4 on the eqatlas map. If you look on the eqatlas map the loc he spawned at was Neg 375 Pos 125 with the first number denoting the x axis AS LISTED ON THE EQ atlas map. This camp was not hard. It was boring. The failed Crypt Raider also dropped a FS mace and a no rent note written in Dark Elvish. I got good exp at level 43 the druid got ok exp at 45 and the shaman got almost none at 50. The spawn time on the library rares is dead on 20 min but the failed crypt raider seems to be on another cycle and even though we thought many times we were in the wrong place, he eventually did spawn. Hoped this helped.
