This is an augmentation event in the first Frostcrypt raid expedition.

The event is triggered by walking into one of the highlighted areas of this map.

A frigid wind howls through the crypt and many of the torches on the wall blow out. As the wind dies and the last torch sputters out you sense the dead around you begin to stir.

Steps:
  • You pick up 1 ground spawn torch (Lore); then go to either of the two lit mounted torches to the south (that you passed initially to enter the area).
  • Keep the Abandoned Crypt Torch on your cursor, face the lit mounted torch and press U (see in game options for "Use Centerscreen")
  • On success you will see yellow text in System Message filter: "Your torch bursts into flames! Now you can light another torch!"
  • If you fail by clicking twice you see the System Message "A ghostly breeze blows out your torch just as it catches flame. Try again in a moment!".
  • You may also get this message if too many zombies are beating on you as you click, unsure.
  • If you get that message, put the Abandoned Crypt Torch in a bag and then back to your cursor, and then click on the other of the two lit mounted torches to light it successfully.
  • Then go to any of the unlit mounted torches, hold the Abandoned Crypt Torch on your cursor, face the unlit mounted torch, and press U again.
  • On success you will see "Your fragile torch disintegrates as it lights the torch on the wall! Around you the attacking shades grow a bit weaker in the brighter light."
  • The unlit mounted torch will now have a blue flame, indicating that it is lit.
  • Repeat 40 times

    Notes:
  • You cannot light a lit mounted torch. doing so will give the System Message "You can't light a torch that is already lit!"
  • You cannot light a Abandoned Crypt Torch by clicking on an unlit mounted torch that was previously lit in this event
  • If you stray outside the southern corridor to the crypt, or north into the Lorekeeper room then the event resets
  • Each Abandoned Crypt Torch groundspawn has a 55 second respawn timer
  • There are 7 Abandoned Crypt Torch groundspawns

After the event is triggered, a horde of zombies attacks the raid. They continue to do so up until the named spawns.

    a fortified zombie (mezzable)
    a raging zombie (not mezzable)
    a resilient zombie (mezzable)

    Misc Info:

In the surrounding rooms you'll find ground spawns called "Abandoned Crypt Torch". Using these, light all the wall lanterns throughout the crypt.

Every time you pick up a torch ground spawn, you have to go back up to the top of the hallway and click on an existing lit wall torch to "light" your own torch. You do not need to equip it. Upon using a torch you see:

Your fragile torch disintegrates as it lights the torch on the wall! Around you the attacking shades grow a bit weaker in the brighter light.

Once a majority of the lanterns are lit (reported to be 40 out of 47), Gravelord Cotas spawns and attacks. He hits for ~8,000; flurries; and enrages. He does not cast any spells.

Gravelord Cotas has been slain by _____!
Your faction standing with Ancestors of Valdeholm got worse.
Your faction standing with Valdeholm Citizens got better.
Your faction standing with Wraithguard Leadership got better.

Confirmed, lighting exactly 40 torches spawns the Gravelord.

You can just spam click the torch sconce to light one you pick up until you get the correct emote regardless of failure emotes. Once you get that emote you can go light a wall sconce.

After I lit 40 of the 47 torches (central hall and the 3 side rooms) is when Gravelord Cotas spawned at the end of the Overwhelming Numbers event.

You do not have to equip the torch, it can be in your bags.

As mentioned below, every time you pick up a torch groundspawn, you have to go back up to the top of the hallway and click on an existing lit wall torch to "light" your own torch.
Terrible handling of the ground spawns

The room groundspawns you can touch at the handle, the hallway torch you have to get at the top side of the torch. The handling is terrible. Sometimes it needs also time between lighting a torch and re-taking it again from the ground. It seems this forces killing the waves somehow.

After an endless section of running around and lighting the named spawn. The named is a joke today but the lightening of th torches are a real mess due to bad object handling, pauses between lighting the torches and re-taking as groundspawns and endless AE-killing of mobs.

It is easy if you try with a level 105 who has a pet on guard and some AE if your level 75 raid is going down and no solution is there except endless running.

After the whole hallway inclusive the rooms in the middle and about 3-4 torches in each of the three side rooms have been lit, that seemed enough to spawn the named.

Also it seems only a feeling but the waves got less and less hitpoints while they hit harder after each torch, but we didn't verified it in the log files.

BaSiCs of the event, (from monk perspective)

After much attempting to figure out the event, was finally able to put 2 and 2 together to come up with orange.

    That being said....

Some basics of the event for those that need to run around like a chicken with head cut off...

Upon entering the event area the assorted zombies will spawn first wave which will run into the main room...which fortunately is where main portion of raid will likely be waiting.

every few seconds a new wave of zombies will spawn and come running towards the main room. If you are between the main room and the zombies. You will get agro but its easy to FD in order to allow the zombies to go to the main room to be dealt with by the raid.

On the ground to the left is the first ground spawn torch. These torches respawn periodically so don't worry that you will run out of torches. Upon picking up torch you must equip the torch and head up into the hall heading towards statue. There are lit torches in the hallway that you can left click which will light your torch. From there you run back into the event area and you light an unlit sconce (again left clicking the unlit sconce.) This will crumble the torch you had equiped and be destroyed.

You must then go into one of the other rooms to pick up a new torch and repeat this until most of the sconces are lit. I found that all but about 4-5 need to be lit to spawn the named for the event.

Once the named is killed you are done and the waves of zombies will stop arriving and the event will be completed. Happy Loot to everyone.

I know you pickup torches off the ground, and use them to light the torches on the wall that went out. That is about all I know...
