This is a group mission that involves going into Jardel's Hook and collecting to artifacts (it is the only group mission for Jardel's Hook). It begins with Farwhendle Higglespout (click for map image) in the Barren Coast, located in a tent at the Blacksail Smuggler camp at approximately -270, -120.

    Pre-requisites for Requesting:
    - Completion of Howlan's Research: Tracking the Missing Notes
    - Completion of Howlan's Research: The Rest of the Diary
    - Completion of Chataya's Staff: The Shattered Pieces

Upon completion of the previous task, you saw:

Farwhendle Higglespout says, 'With the shattered pieces of the staff collected, I can now combine the staff pieces. This will allow you to see the [hidden cove] in Jardel's Hook, which is where Howlan indicated where the artifacts might be found. You will need the help of other adventurers to complete this task.'

    You say, 'What hidden cove?'

Farwhendle Higglespout says, 'I believe with this staff intact, you will be able to find the Hidden Cove on Jardel's Hook. The staff's power allows you to see the invisible, and makes you invisible to other beings who would normally see you. This staff allows you to enter the magical cloak that has made the Cove hidden from people for hundreds of years. Go with caution though, for there might be sentries there awating your arrival. Return the staff to me once you have the artifacts!'

You have been assigned the task 'Chataya's Staff: Jardel's Hidden Cove'

With the notes composed and the staff pieces recovered, Farwhendle tells you that the staff will be activated upon arriving at Jardel's Hook. While the current inhabitants of the Hook will not notice you, other beings that were invisible before are now visible and are aware of your presence. The current inhabitants will not be able to attack you, nor will you be able to attack them. However, the other beings there may be dangerous. The guardians of the artifacts were left there by Chataya ages ago. Recover the artifacts using any means possible.

Whoever requests the task receives "Chataya's Staff".

Purchase tickets to Jardel's Hook and catch the boat 0/1 (The Buried Sea)

Buy the ticket from Harbormaster Blumble (sitting on a crate outside a tent a short distance from Farwhendle), and board the Isabeau. You will zone into an instanced zone of the Buried Sea called Jardel's Hook.

Slay the Elemental Constructs along the coast 0/15 (Jardel's Hook)

Slay the Storm Convergences along the coast 0/15 (Jardel's Hook)

These mobs are Level 75-77, each have ~50,000 hitpoints, and hit for a max ~1,000. Some are immune to root/snare and all of them can summon. None see through invisibility, but they all have a large aggro radius. Some are pure melee; some are casters. Upon killing all of them, you see:

The ground shakes as Chataya's two golems come awake.

...And the next two steps open up.

    Defeat Lurslag 0/1 (Jardel's Hook)

    Defeat Darsoot 0/1 (Jardel's Hook)

Lurslag is a Warrior-class golem, has ~100,000 hitpoints, hits for a max ~3,250, and rampages. It is immune to root, snare, stun, and mez. It flees at low health.

Darsoot is a Shadow Knight-class golem, has ~100,000 hitpoints, hits for a max ~3,250, and rampages. It is immune to root, snare, stun, and mez. It flees at low health.

Lurslag has been slain by _____!
Lurslag's corpse says 'My master shall avenge me!'
Your faction standing with Sirens of Maiden's Grave has been adjusted by -1.

Darsoot has been slain by _____!
Darsoot's corpse says 'My master shall avenge me!'
Your faction standing with Sirens of Maiden's Grave has been adjusted by -1.

Recover the Stormcrasher 0/1 (Jardel's Hook)

    "Stormcrasher" drops from Lurslag;

Recover the Tideshaper 0/1 (Jardel's Hook)

"Tideshaper" drops from Darsoot. Upon looting them both, you see:

Chataya's Echo shouts, "Foolish mortals, you will not leave here with those artifacts!"

    Defeat Chataya's Echo 0/1 (Jardel's Hook)

Chataya's Echo is a Level 80 undead Warrior-class mob. She has ~210,000 hitpoints; hits for a max ~4,000; and flurries. Be prepared for a lot of melee DPS out of her.

Chataya`s Echo has been slain by _____!
Chataya`s Echo's corpse says "Noooo, I have failed to protect the artifacts from the likes of you!"
Your faction standing with Sirens of Maiden's Grave has been adjusted by -2.

You can click on the rowboat on the western coast (near the zone-in point) to port back to Barren Coast.

Return to Farwhendle with Tideshaper 0/1 (Barren Coast)

Return to Farwhendle with Stormcrasher 0/1 (Barren Coast)

Deliver Chataya's Staff to Farwhendle after you have acquired Tideshaper and Stormcrasher 0/1 (Barren Coast)

You can click on the rowboat on the western coast (near the zone-in point) to port back to Barren Coast.

Upon turning in the three items, you see:

Farwhendle tells you, 'Upon inspection, I believe that the artifacts you returned have lost their magical power. It is certain that the artifacts power diminished when the two golems were destroyed. However, these artifacts have historical relevance and worth, and will be a great asset to researchers around the world. Speak with Halon Griere in the Buried Sea. He may have a few valuable items for sale that you may purchase if you are friendly with him.'

    Rewards:
    Doubloons (number may vary)
    Faction with Blacksail Smugglers (+20)

Completing this task opens up the following items to be available for purchase from the doubloon vendor, Halon Griere:

    - Surly Shrunken Head (400 Doubloons)
    - Sextant of Sunken Seas (300 Doubloons)
    - Map of Lost Fools (300 Doubloons)
    - Flask of Flaming Skulls (100 Doubloons)
    - Hazy Crystalline Box (100 Doubloons)

You can repeat any of the tasks in this arc by saying "searching for debris" (for the three pre-requisite tasks) or "hidden cove" (to repeat this group mission). There are no other group missions for Jardel's Hook.

    Big Ouch!

Our guild had visited Hidden Cove a month or so back, but didn't have the firepower for the named. So we killed some trash mobs and left. Today we came back stronger - pulled two trash mobs near zone in. Got one of each elemental type, they wiped our group each with a single hit ranging from 30k to 75k. Needless to say we dropped the mission and headed out. I'm not sure how the trash mobs went from hitting 1k to 75k, but something is fishy here!!!

    too dangerous
    # Jul 30 2007 at 7:16 AM Rating: Decent
Is there a reason for getting the "its too dangerous to enter" message when trying to enter this instance? I have tried getting into it 4 times now and it wont let me zone in.

The reward for this task is additional items on the doubloon vendor. Among other things a ds click and a hate reduction click (with charges).

These become available after completing the group mission, even if you have not done the single mission tasks.

Pretty underwhelming, and no text I saw to indicate that reward really...

Wow, another long quest that gives nothing as a reward. Way to go! I just can't wait to spend a week doing this for no reason whatsoever.

Im so sick and tired of reading posts like this.

No offense to your opinion, im sure you have your reasons. But just because there hasnt been a bounty of Treasure or explanations listed for this quest, dosent mean its worthless. The only way youll ever Find "A Good quest thats worthwhile" is by doing new quests, following lines, and paying attention to detail.

While i can understand your point that its seems a long task for a quest that does not have any good listed rewards (except faction and dubloons) you also got to know that theres a possibility that there are still unknown things linked to the quest line or rewards that do drop that arent listed. And even if this isnt the case, its still somthing to do if your Bored.
    not that hard
    # May 24 2007 at 4:45 PM Rating: Decent
not as hard as it seems. group was 74 paladin alt, two 75 shaman, necro, ranger, 69 sk. most pulls are 2-4, big assist range. trash doesnt hit hard, on me (75 shm, 2.0/tbs and anguish geared, 18% shielding) max hit by trash was 1004, low hit was 200, most are around 475-650 against 2500 ac even. mobs summon. at end of task there are 2 named golems to kill, they were tanked by the ranger (13.5k hp 2600ish ac). The echo at end was a tad harder, ranger burnt ws, pally used loh and I used union of spirits. flees at 5% health. GL!
