    This group mission is the fifth in a series of five. It begins with Researcher Higgins (click for map image), a gnome found in Barren Coast at /location 230, -90 (sitting inside a wagon). He will not talk to you at dubious faction. He will give the task at indifferent+.

    Pre-requisites for Requesting:
    - Completion of "The Wild Island"
    - Completion of "Long Abandoned"
    - Completion of "A Volatile Disease"
    - Completion of "An Experiment Gone Wrong"

    At the end of the previous task, you saw:

    Researcher Higgins takes the fern samples and immediately begins working with them, mixing them in with several vials of liquid he had sitting nearby. Within a few moments, he has several bottles of liquid ready for use, turning to you and requesting that you take the [vials] and this [special potion] that he crafted and [investigate] the possibility that he has just concocted a cure.

    You say, 'We'll investigate more'

    Make sure you say "vials" and "special potion" to him before zoning over.

    You have been assigned the task 'Cleansing the Island'.

    Researcher Higgins has created a cure for the inhabitants of Monkey Rock and requests that you travel back to the island to administer the cure to them.

    You say, 'I'll take the vials'

    Researcher Higgins says 'These potions are a concoction comprised of both the fern samples and small amounts of the diseased animal blood that you retrieved for me. They should counteract the disease and return the animals to their normal states.'

    You receive 50x "Potion: Island Cure".

    You say, 'And the special potion?'

    Researcher Higgins says 'This potion is a concoction comprised of several drops of each of the diseased animal's blood that you brought me, some silvermoon berries, and a few other miscellaneous herbs and extracts I had available here in my shop. The result is a potion that should disguise you adequately enough to get close enough to the diseased animals to administer the disease cure. Take care when administering the cure as they may not take kindly to it!'

    You receive 1x "Potion: Island Disguise".



    Purchase tickets to Monkey Rock and catch the boat 0/1 (Barren Coast)

    Dockmaster Weatherby says 'You look like you've been at sea on a dangerous mission for a while? Perhaps you plan to head back out, in which case you're going to need to purchase another ticket before boarding the Isabeau.'

    Buy a "Seafarer's Ticket: Monkey Rock" from any of the Dockmasters along the coastline and keep it in your inventory. When the ship docks, step onto it and wait for it to sail out to the Buried Sea. Upon zoning, you'll find yourself in an instanced version of the island. (Next to you is a rowboat that serves as your zone-out.)



    Cure the gorillas 0/5 (Monkey Rock)

    Cure the jaguars 0/5 (Monkey Rock)

    Cure the raptors 0/5 (Monkey Rock)

    Cure the pythons 0/5 (Monkey Rock)

    Use the illusion potion to become a raptor, gorilla, snake or jaguar. You can use it repeatedly and rotate through the illusions. Your illusion must match the mobs you are trying to give potions to. Make sure they /con "ally" before approaching. You must ALSO keep the potion equipped in your range slot to get the faction benefit.

    Upon giving a potion to a mob, it'll either be cured (and disappear) or it will reject it and attack you. (You can fade their aggro, but the mob seems to reject any further attempts at curing.)

    Mobs flee at low health and are social with one another if aggro'd. Try to spare the assisting mobs (via fade, feign death, mem blur, etc.), or you may run out of mobs to cure.

    You can expect to use 45+ cure potions.



    Report back to Researcher Higgins 0/1 (Barren Coast)

    Near the zone-in area is a rowboat that you can click to port you back to the Buried Sea:

    You get into the longboat and row out. You are quickly picked up by one of the many merchant ships sailing the waters of the Buried Sea and delivered safely to the dock on Jardel's Hook...

    Head back to Researcher Higgins in Barren Coast, and hail him:

    Researcher Higgins is relieved that the cure you helped him concoct successfully cured the animals of Monkey Rock of that terrible disease. Perhaps it is now safe enough to adventure there and continue his research on the Combine ruins.


    Rewards:
    - Doubloons (varies)
    - Faction with Blacksail Smugglers (+15)

    You can now request any of the five missions at any time by saying "investigate" to Researcher Higgins.

    Ater doing all 5 the next time around I could pick any task. I liked #5 with a mage to clear aggro. Did not have to kill anything and was quick. If I did task twice in one day the second time was rewarded with only half as much, but the next day the reward went back up.

    This mission is not too straight forward.

    First off, before you head out, say "Special Potions" and he will give you "Potion: Island Disguise" (Magic, Lore, No Trade, Temporary, Quest, All/All, Range Item, Size Small).

    This is used to illusion you, once in the zone.

    Then say to him, "Vials" and he will give you a stack of 50 "Potion: Island Cure" (Magic, No trade, Temporary, Quest, All/All, Range, Size Small, Weight 0.1).

    Then buy your ticket to Monkey island and hop on a boat to zone in.

    The idea here is that you use the Disguise potion to become a raptor, gorilla, snake or jaguar. You cna use it repeatedly and roate through the illusions. Your illusion must match the MOB's you are trying to give potions to, as the illusion should "fool" the MOB's and they should consider you "ally."

    You are then to give (trade window) one of the other potions to the MOB's to "cure" them. They will either be cured (and disappear) or they will give it back and attack you, forcing you to kill them.

    HOWEVER...... this seemed bugged at first. The illusion failed to make me ally to any MOB's. When I tried to go up to a MOB and hand them the potion, they aggroed from afar and once aggroed, I could not get a trade window.

    With a little experimentation I discovered that keeping the disgusie potion in my range slot was what actually made me ally, along with the specific illusion.

    Also, don't let them run... other MOB's will assist them against you, illusion or not. By the same token, try to cure MOB's that are alone, to avoid aggroing more than one if they refuse the potion.

    I found that I could root aggroed MOB's and then run to another non-aggored MOB to try another turn in. I kept doing this over until I either had all the updates or had as many rooted as i could. If I didn't get all the updates, I simply ran out over the water to loose aggro and try again.

    This prevented having to kill a lot of MOB's.

    After you cure 5 each of jaguars, gorillas, snakes and raptors, zone out (canoe) and head back to Higgins to finish.

    The mobs in this mission are not "set" when you zone in, meaning there are no particular mobs that are going to accept the vial or refuse it. The mob you give the vial to that refuses it, if you were to feign death or otherwise clear aggro, could accept the vial the next time. Just a tid bit for you other necros out there soloing these missions

    This worked good for me as a cleric .Whenever vial was not accepted I just rooted , backed up and atoned. While waiting for atone recast I healed myself. Killed a few mobs but only for clearing purposes and when it really got bad I just ran to rowboat.

    The same thing just happened to me, a couple animals gave me back the potion, yet didnt agro. The directions read as if they are supposed to either give it back and agro or accept it and be cured. The problem was I had the wrong illusion on at the time.

    Go to Monkey Rock via the boat and put the Special Potion in your range slot. Right click the potion and you change into an animal. Keep right clicking till you get the animal you want.

    You feel different.

    Before you reach agro range con every creature. If you do not get ally right clic on Special Potion till you get ally.

    Trade a vial with the animal and you will get for a sucess


    Your task 'Cure the Isle' has been updated. You have cured a raptor.
    Your task 'Cleansing the Island' has been updated.

    OR for a failed attempt


    a diseased raptor says 'I have no need for this Guli, you can have it back.'
    a diseased raptor hurls towards you with uncanny speed.

    You need five success for raptor, jaguar, python and gorillas

    When you complete return to the boat where you zoned in.

    You get into the longboat and row out. You are quickly picked up by one of the many merchant ships sailing the waters of the Buried Sea and delivered safely to the dock on Jardel's Hook..

    Return to Barren Coast via the boat and Hail Higgins

    Your task 'Cleansing the Island' has been updated.
    Researcher Higgins is relieved that the cure you helped him concoct successfully cured the animals of Monkey Rock of that terrible disease. Perhaps it is now safe enough to adventure there and continue his research on the Combine ruins.
    Your faction standing with Blacksail Smugglers got better.
    You have successfully been granted your reward for: Cleansing the Island


    Task seems to have two names.

    The reward was 30 Doubloons and Faction

    Once you have completed this task it opens up all of the 5 to be repeated.

    Okay, you do five quests, in a series, and spend a lot of time doing it. And you only get faction and doubloons? How about nice like an aug, or something like that? And are there any useful zone wide drops to be had? I looked at the loot tables of some of the mobs, and nothing other than quest items and vendor fodder popped up at me.

    I have a question about the mechanics of the quest. I assume this is a group task, as I have read elsewhere. Does everyone in the group need to have done stages one to four in order to get into group five, or only the leader? If there was some reward other than doubloons for completing all five, would only those who had completed all five missions get the reward?

    Addendum: Does this zone repop, or not?

    No not all the group need to have done the previous ones to get the reward. Only the task requester needs to have done the previous four.

    This zone does not repop.

    no clue how to cure animals, any idea?

    say to Higgins: "vial": you will get 50*potion: island cure
    say to Higgins: "soecial potion" you will get potion: island disquise. put in range its a faction modificier and u can cast illusion.

    btw i tried everything but no clue how to cure ******* animals.

    ok, put disquise in range, get correct illusion for each animal type, and u will be ally. try to trade island cure potion to animals, some will get it and fade, some will aggro.

    BE SURE, THAT U DONT AGGRO LAST ANIMAL FROM EACH TYPE, CAUSE NO REPOP!

    or u can just kill all animals from each type, and do the turn in on last, u will get all 5 updates.

    Is this bugged?
    I tried trading the potions to the raptors and all they did was hand it back with the usual message, "I have no use for this...blah, blah, blah.'
    I was not invisible or anything like that. Animals were conning ally. I only had one animal (a gorilla) aggro when I handed it to him. I tried it on probably 12-15 animals, with the same result. Is there another step I have to do first that I'm missing?
    Totally baffled.

    This is a very late reply, but just incase anyone else is having this same trouble...

    When clicking the special potion, you will eventually get ally with the animals...to turn in the vials though, you have to click till you are ally, and the same animal you are trying to turn this vial into. EG. To turn the vials into the raptors, you have to con ally, and be a raptor, and so on.
